I know people love Champys around here but we love hot chicken and this place does it best. No frills, simple restaurant with 10 or so tables. You walk in and you choose your table and a nice waitress will bring your menus. We like the chicken strip basket which comes with two sides. Of our favorites are the fries, the collard greens, green beans, and mac and cheese. The chicken strips are very crispy, the meat is just a little dry but the flavor is great with even the mild level heat having nice heat. We also got the catfish which has a perfect crust and perfectly cooked inside. The baskets come with sauce and you get two per order. Probably more than you'll need. This was a cool neighborhood spot near downtown that we stopped at the first night we were in town. Nice Blues/soul music played on the speakers. We were told to seat ourselves and our menus would be brought to us. After a short wait, the bartender/server came to take our drink order and food order. We both ordered the mild heat chicken tender special (3 tenders and fries for $7). We also added a veggie plate so we could try the Mac and cheese and greens. Our food arrived after a few minutes. The tenders were cooked fresh and were piping hot when they arrived. The chicken was dusted with mild heat seasoning. Outside of that seasoning, they weren't seasoned with anything else. We both remarked that we've had better Nashville hot tenders and better tenders in general. The Mac and cheese was just okay but the greens were the star of the meal. They were flavorful, meaty and had just enough kick to keep things interesting. Good meal overall. I recommend that you try them out. We will return to try other menu items. read more

I'd love to review the food, but I can't. I placed an order at 6:20 for a 7:05 pickup. Take-out orders can sometimes take a bit, so I arrived at 7:20. When I walk in the gentleman at the front counter asks what I am there for, and I tell him a mobile order with my name. He looks at the counter, sees nothing and proceeds to tell me, 'they'll take care of it when they get over here' and continues counting money. After sitting for about 20 minutes, someone comes over for an order for another person and asks if it is mine. I say no, provide my name, and she heads off. Another 10 minutes later another woman comes and tells me they have no order under my name and I'll have to cancel it with door dash. My issue isn't the Door Dash mixup, that happens. My issue is, it took over 30 minutes for someone to actually tell me I had no order. If y'all close at 8pm, and I walk in 40 minutes before that, can't y'all let me know and make some food for me? The complete dismissal when I arrived and the lack the attitude like it was my fault really got to me. I hate to write bad reviews, and I was excited to try this place, and I know Door Dash has some blame here too, but this could've been handled a whole lot better. Smaller place. Everyone was very friendly. My husband and I both ordered chicken breast sandwich and I ordered a side of Mac and cheese. I am a wimp so I ordered no spice while he ordered medium. They checked with the kitchen and advised it would be about 15 mins as it would be fresh. We agreed and ordered sweet teas. It was no joke fresh and super hot temperature wise. We were a little surprised when I came out it was fried chicken between two pieces of bread. They gave us a choice of sauces to put on it and it was good. I went after a meeting and hearing about this spot. The staff was really nice. Parking is available on the street. There are other businesses over there. I did a to go order although it was a nice atmosphere. People seem to be enjoying I did the chicken with Mac and cheese, with their pound cake, and a drink which was the fruit punch and tea mixed (sugar rush). I enjoyed the meal. The chicken was a medium which was just enough spice for me. The Mac and cheese was okay. It was a good experience. I would bring friends or family visiting out to try it. Tuesdays special was three tenders and I had them with green beans and collard greens. And let me warn you - "medium" is hot. I went through every last bit of the blue cheese dressing in that little pot in an attempt to cool my taste buds. Don't get me wrong - it was DELICIOUS! The tenders were big pieces and they were cooked perfectly. Nicely topped with the hot spiciness. So many places lose the meal with the sides. Not here. The green beans were delicious. This place is pretty cool and has a spectrum of heat you can choose from for your chicken and fried catfish! I personally got a mild and still found it spicy but my friends went up in the heat factor. The seasoning and chicken was very flavorful. This chicken is the boss of the barnyard at Flaming Rooster. It is perfectly cooked, too hot touch and gorgeously juicy when it hits the table. You choose the level of dry rub kick. They call it "sprinkle" on the gentle end to "Oh Hale Naw" on the high heat end. I went with "medium." It was delicious with some perfect but substantial heat on the finish.
