want a great place in south seattle to take a load off and decompress? coming up i5 and need some relief from the traffic? looking for creative specialty drinks and pastries/sandwiches that'll help power a remote work situation (no wifi, though)? flora bakehouse is tucked into the south beacon hill neighborhood half a block due east of cleveland high school. parking is not easy but you'll be rewarded with great food and drink options, a welcoming/inclusive ambiance and ample space upstairs or on the rooftop. weekends are going to see a lot more crowds but you you should take the time to experience this sister location to cafe flora, a well known madison valley mainstay of the vegetarian scene here. i appreciated the light, airy nature of the decor and the various options, all of which looked amazing (it was all i could do to just stop at ordering the burrito and not a ton of accompanying sweets to go.) this is 15 from capitol hill, 15min from west seattle and close enough to make it worth your while to investigate. those who reside on beacon hill are in the iykyk category but the rest of us can visit when our schedules allow and be envious the other part of the time! read more

The interior is also really lovely and they have a great outdoor balcony area as well. I'd been meaning to visit Flora Bakehouse since I found out they make Kouign Amanns. I went with a friend and we split a Twice Baked Almond Croissant, Kouign Amann, seasonal Danish and the Seasonal Sweet scone. The day we went also happened to be a promotion with Minor Figures for free cardamon rose oat lattes. Since we don't live close by, we ended up eating inside. They checked our vaccination cards and ids. There was a decently long line due to the the free lattes. They don't offer to warm up any of the pastries and given it was a rainy day, so they were all a tad bit cold. All the pastries are lovely. I usually feel scones are on the dry end but this was not and it wasn't crumbly. The seasonal danish was good even if I'm not the biggest fan of ginger. The Kouign Amann was interesting as it had lovely layers like a croissant. The shell is fairly sweet and hard. This is the first time I've had a Kouign Amman like this. Despite how it sounds when I describe it, due to the insides being somewhat plain, you can create a balanced bite. That being said, it makes the almond croissant seem a tad too sweet. It's a lovely croissant with a crispy outside and filled inside. Personally I liked the latte but I'm also a bit a sugar fiend. It was just the right amount of sweet and I enjoyed it. The fact it was made with oat milk wasn't obvious to me but oat milk is also my preferred alternative milk. Combined with the lattes, both of us struggled to finish our pastries. They also will sometimes have soft serve available after a certain time and saw a lot of people enjoying that as well. Seating is mainly on the second floor with a nice beautiful indoor area but also a great patio that has a covered and uncovered section. Note: no wifi! Pretty bougie for Beacon Hill. Because it's within a block from Cleveland High and St. George I could see faculty grabbing coffee and baked goods before class not because it's good but because it's convenient. I didn't know much about this shop except that I saw or heard the bakery's name a couple times somewhere. My friend and I decided to make the drive up. I guess kids like this spot because right after we ordered there was a wave of students lined up behind us. For them, it's pretty much the only walkable place to eat other than their school cafeteria. My friend and I decided to head upstairs to the rooftop. We could hear the airplanes flying in and out of Boeing Field. The baked goods were ok. Probably would have tasted better warm but there was no offer to reheat. I agree with some of these reviews about the vibe. The cashier was unwelcoming. The 2nd floor sunroom was occupied and the atmosphere felt pretentious. This shop definitely doesn't represent the Beacon Hill I grew up in. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. The Beacon Hill bakery hits are Delite Bakery and Fresh Flours. Other favored bakeries within a 10 min drive from Flora are Patrick's Bakery in White Center, Macrina down in Sodo, and Columbia City Bakery. Such a perfect spot to get work done! The interior really stood out to me. It had a pastel color theme, floral patterns, and home plants. The second level is my favorite spot, however the indoor space is so small it seats no more than 12 people. The patio makes the overall space big, however due to not having a patio heater it makes working there uncomfortable on a cold day. Now on to their coffee, I thought it was well made! What an a great bakery and cafe shop ! Found it by accident on my way to work . Thought I go in and grab a mocha and a croissant but ended up buying all types of pastries, short breads, cookies and breads to share with my coworkers at work. The shop is so cute with plenty of seats and has a refrigerated items with boxed lunches that you can grab and go. I will stop by next time for their pizzas and lunch specials. This was a fun stop today! We came in on Sunday in the late morning and were tempted by everything in the display cases. We got the earl grey shortbread, lemon scone and the almond croissant-all of these were smash hits with us. Their flavors and quality are outstanding. Next time we will come earlier to be sure that we can get all of the pastries we want. Our service was quick and easy. We were in and out in five minutes. I had been following this bakery on Instagram so I was excited to try it. For me, it was a bit underwhelming so more like a 3.5 stars but I rounded up to 4 stars because Covid times and the almond croissant saved the day. I bought the plain croissant, twice baked almond croissant and the Meyer lemon ginger scone. The plain croissant was DRY. If you have ever had a really buttery flakey plain croissant, this was unfortunately not it. You don't get buttery taste and tender interior. I get plain croissants at every bakery to establish a baseline for their laminated pastries so I have had a lot of them. The almond croissant's topping and filling really helped elevate the dry plain croissant. This is an item that I would repurchase but not the plain croissant. The scone was very popular. I got the last one! It was okay but I like my scones sweeter and more tender. The shop was cute so if I lived in the area I would go every so often but not quite worth the drive if you're far away. read more

Stuff tried: Bakehouse breakfast sandwich: cheese and egg on a very buttery brioche bun! Hits all the right notes for a breaky sando for me! Savory hand pie: nice flaky crust! Inside stuffed with cheese, cauliflower, peppers. So good and portable! Cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting: lovely frosting and great cinnamon flavors! Ate this over a few meals. Breakfast burrito: has beans and other veg and was quite good. I did go home and add some scrambled eggs to it to make it even better! Orange chocolate almond coffee cake: another great cake here. I'm saving the last star when I have a chance to try one of their coffee drinks. Was happy to finally drop by was too late for the passionfruit tart at noon. However was able to nab the last kouign amann, chocolate croissant, seasonal rhubarb pastry and a meyer lemon ginger scone to share with dad. My dad was an alum of Cleveland High class of 1956 he was telling my brother and I it used to be a convenience store where they would hang out called Louie's. Our favorite was the season rhubarb pastry think it had a touch of ginger and had some custard. One of the largest kouign amanns I've had in Seattle. What a cute little bakery! My fiancé and I stopped here for a quick snack before our skate session. They have a really wide selection of pastries to choose from. I got a cheddar cheese and chive scone and my fiancé got a maple pecan scone. Both were really good! The place is super cute too in case you want to have a chill date, and there is ample seating outside. My only gripes are that while the staff was really friendly, they didn't offer to heat up our scones. We didn't know that was an option until after we paid and saw the oven behind the counter. The scone was very tasty but it would have been a thousand times better heated up. We got two black coffees too and mine wasn't very good. It tasted old and not fresh. Super cute bakery with some seating downstairs and upstairs, along with an outdoor rooftop patio. They offer a variety of savory and sweet baked goods. I ordered the frittata the savory pie with mushrooms and Gruyere cheese, and a sweet pastry with rhubarb and vanilla filling I believe. Everything was fresh and tasty, but I especially enjoyed the sweet pastry for the texture and the perfect amount of sweetness from the filling. They also make great lattes. LOVED this place! They make everything in-house and if I'm not mistaken, their commissary is also in the same location. Every pastry I tried (sampled around 8 - don't judge! :D) were are delicious, flaky, balanced flavors, and fresh! I got my order to-go, but next time I visit, I plan on sitting for a bit since they offer seating here. There's what seems to be a never-ending line of patrons DAILY here (I drive past it on my way to work)! We had an awesome morning at Flora Bakehouse. Already big fans of the brand, we were excited that they opened a South sound location. We found quick parking in the neighborhood and didn't have to wait too long to be served. All the items were perfectly seasonal and absolutely delicious. This bakehouse/coffee shop is nestled in a cute neighborhood and is easily walkable! It is so stinking cute! There are lots of different food options, many of which are GF and/or vegan. There are also really unique coffee drinks which is right up my alley. I tried the honey lavender latte as well as the cardamom rose latte (in addition to the drip coffee, of course). The lavender was perfect and gave my latte a nice floral flavor. I also really loved the frittata - it was rich enough to share since I tend to eat small breakfasts. Make sure if you're dining in/wanting to hang out inside to check out the upstairs and rooftop seating. It is so aesthetic and really beautiful! It would be perfect for meetings, working, or just enjoying your morning coffee. If I weren't visiting just for the weekend, I'd stop by really frequently! read more

I love coming to new spots. From the outside, it was very cute and looked very cozy inside. I loved the extremely creative menu on the wall next to the front door made with individual wooden letter tiles (similar to Scrabble tiles, but larger). I didn't have any expectations coming in, but the ambiance was pretty and cozy. The staff was pretty friendly, food looked pretty good and overall the store gave me a good feeling. But my experience was kind of underwhelming. My friend who brought me here asked me afterward how my coffee was. I was like, it was good. I also had the Classic Roman Pizza, which was like a very fluffy pizza-like pastry? It was actually very tasty! I didn't enjoy the backless hard metal seats honestly. I mean, overall it wasn't a bad experience, but it wasn't a great one either. The restroom was very tidy and smelled nice and the whole building was extremely clean. My experience was very much "as expected." I'd love to give 3.5 stars, but alas, I can't. So Flora gets 4 stars from me, or a meh +. read more

I've been eyeing this bakery for a while now, and I'm so glad I finally gave it a visit! We ordered the double baked almond croissant, earl grey shortbread and an iced latte. - The double baked almond croissant was crispy on the outside and quite flaky too. It was all in all a great croissant. However, my partner and I still prefer the texture and flavor of the double baked almond croissants at bakery nouveau, and maybe that has just set our expectations. - The earl grey shortbread was simply stellar! I loved how it packed such a strong earl grey flavor. As someone who loves tea-flavored / earl grey desserts, I found this shortbread to have one of the strongest flavors of earl grey; the bakers did an amazing job at channelling something typically so light and delicate. The bakery itself was super cute too! I appreciated the light wood tones, juxtaposed with white, pink and plants. How have we not visited this little gem before? It has such a sweet upbeat atmosphere with the warm interior and everyone behind the counter was so friendly. We tried both a rose cardamom latte (we were in the neighborhood and I was craving a rose latte and this was the yelp recommendation) and lavender latte. Both were superb. My teenager and I split a kouign aman and in the words of the teen: "It was ridiculously good.". We aren't often on this side of Seattle but it is worth making the trek from home for it! read more

One of my favorite bakeries nearby! They've got such a great selection of goodies (even at 3pm). I love the rotating sweet and savory danishes. I've been several times and love their upstairs rooftop to enjoy these delicious pastries. One of my favorite things to get is the kouign amann (only on weekends!) also their cinnamon rolls are vegan, which is nice if you have dietary restrictions. If you get a mix of vegan, regular, or gf things, they'll always ask if they need to separate your order from one another. So thoughtful! read more

We decided to try Flora Bakehouse in Beacon Hill. It's a charming bakery known by locals for their pastries. On first glance it looks really small and there doesn't seem to be a lot of options. We chose the plain croissant, almond croissant, egg and cheese sandwich and frittata. They have a cute seating area upstairs that has indoor and outdoor seating with a view of Boeing Field. Let's start with the croissant. We actually ordered the chocolate croissant but they gave us a plain by mistake. We weren't sad at all because it was the perfect combination of buttery, flaky, a little bit of sweet and crispy on the outside. It had some kind of glaze that made it outstanding. The almond croissant was the best I've ever had. I had to take a pause after my first bite to let it sink in. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and it was both robust and delicate. Even Noah who doesn't like almonds gave it two thumbs up. The frittata looked the most unassuming. I make frittatas and wasn't expecting to be wowed by the little serving. The carmelized onions lent it an unexpected sweetness and depth of flavor. I don't know what else they put in there but I definitely need to up my frittata game now. My son said his egg and cheese was good and I don't blame him for not sharing. The only reason I didn't share was because I don't have three stomachs and wouldn't be able to eat all four things on my own. Wow, I am so in love with this spot! It's absolutely adorable! It's tucked away in a neighborhood, so it's a bit unassuming in that way. But wow the decor and vibe is just so spot on. They have a rooftop deck area that would be amazing on even a partly cloudy day (hey it was even nice on the cloudy day I went!). Aside from the decor, this spot has the substance to back it up. The baked goods are delicious! I got the koguin amann, chocolate chip cookie and baguette. They had sold out of the almond croissant by the time I got there (about 2 pm on a saturday) so I'll have to come back for it. Despite that, I was impressed with how well stocked they were on a Saturday afternoon, so don't be intimidated to go later on a Saturday! But don't count on them necessarily having the item you want (as is expected from all good bakeries). While the baked goods were delicious, none of them are my favorite in Seattle for those items but they are top tier. What sets this spot apart for me is the ambiance. I have been a "regular" at the Bakehouse this year. Always a treat. Classic Roman Pizza, Gorgonzola Potato pizza, Brie Apple and Breakfast sandwich are favorite entrees. I had this bakery on my bookmarked list for a while and finally stopped in to have a zoom meeting there. Their 2 parking spots were full so I found a spot in the neighborhood a block and a half away and walked over. First off the line was wrapped around the corner of the building so I had to jump on my meeting without ordering anything and had to use my hot spot for internet since I couldn't get inside to see if there was internet. When I had a break in my meeting I got in line and it was 25 minutes long. I noticed that they actually do have seating inside but oddly it is located Behind the pastry fridge and ordering counter so from outside it looks like there is no seating. At that point I was already set up on the tables outside. The Americano and almond croissant that I got was so so, about 2 out of 5. I got on the internet and it kept cutting out.
