Met a friend in Beacon Hill, and he parked in front of Victrola. When we returned to his car, it had been rear ended in a really bad way. As we were figuring out next steps, we went into the coffee shop. The barista, who had heard the crash, had already gone out to check on the other car involved, was super kind to us as we tried to arrange for towing even though is was near closing time, and after the cars were towed away, was out there sweeping away all the debris from the accident. I will definitely be visiting this coffee shop every time when in Beacon Hill just because of the over the top service. Coffee was good too, but more importantly made with love! read more

Such a cute coffee shop in Beacon Hill! I love when coffee shops have unique, non-coffee drinks and they currently have a golden latte special! They also have a locally-made kombucha on tap. We visited around 4pm, and there were still pastries available, so we picked up a very tasty squash bread. Victrola also works with a local artist each month to display their work in the shop! I live in Seattle long enough to say Victrola is not on my list of great coffee, but after visiting other places and other countries, then came here for a long missed latte, alright they are actually pretty good! I guess NY or SF also has good coffee, but the thing about Seattle coffee is that we have a certain culture into it. It's almost a flavor made for Seattlelites and you can tell that fruity sweetness is THE seattle coffee thing. Anyhow, I lived so close to Victrola on 15th before, so I always go there and never thought it's that good kind of coffee or anything special about it. BUT! Unfortunately I went to LA for Christmas. Finding a cup of good coffee is like finding nemo there!!! And finally I got time to come here and realized it's good. Oh and even you're in Seattle doesn't mean everyone knows how to make almond milk latte. It's still often overly foamed or "burnt" the almond milk to where you can taste the bitterness. Well, surprise surprise Victrola GOT IT! They make perfect balanced almond milk latte here!!! I guess this is really depends on the barista's skill and the almond milk they use. But yayaayyay I'm just simply so happy that Victrola didn't disappoint me! Yeah, I guess 5 stars is a must... I thought it's only 3/4 stars once but wow, some places outside Seattle really don't know what coffee is. Damn I love my local coffee roasters! P.S. I am visiting my friends and didn't know what to get them and I wanted to get them something like a "Seattle only gift". Here we are I found it! My sweet fiancé and I hit this place up after a nice long wake and skate at Jefferson park. The coffees were pretty good! He got a soy cappuccino with an extra shot and I got a soy chai latte. For both 12 oz drinks it was $12, which is not too bad for good coffee. However, what makes this Victrola Coffee Roasters a 2 star venue is that the blonde woman working on June 25 around 9 am handling the register and drinks was incredibly rude. When my fiancé asked her if we could sit at the tables outside, she snarkily replied, "that's why they're there." Excuse me, but especially during corona virus, your patrons don't know which tables or chairs can be sat at or in or which venues are now allowing indoor/outdoor seating. There is no common standard law as to how every restaurant is operating during these times, and your incredible rudeness is uncalled for. We also overheard her being rude to other customers ahead of us. For example, this elderly man asked her the price of a pound of coffee, and he asked her the price again and she rudely replied, "that's what I said." When we said thank you for our drinks, she was silent. I'm not sorry that we interrupted your reading, drinking or your coffee, and eating of your croissant. If you don't want to be at work with customers and you would rather be at home doing what you were doing here (drinking coffee, reading, and eating a croissant) then you shouldn't be at work. You also weren't wearing a mask, which shows you do not care about yourself, coworkers, or patrons at this establishment. Won't be going back. read more

It's clear that this is a local spot as it's bustling with activity but there's lots of table space to get some work done, too - they call their shop a "coffee roaster + community room" for a reason. So how long has Victrola been in this location? It now, along with Verite in Madrona, are my go-to neighborhood coffee houses in Seattle. I had been dragging and dragging my feet for almost a year on having surgery to repair a tear in my abdominal wall, and finally went ahead and got the thing done yesterday. I'm sure having never been in a hospital before, and listening to way too many people's anecdotal advice about surgery, made me delay doing it. Bottom line, tune out the mavens and listen to the doc. If I had known it was this easy, I would have had the operation a long time ago. So after shaking off the general anesthesia and leaving the recovery room at Valley Medical Center, the first thing I wanted was mocha. So up to the Beacon Hill Victrola we came. Despite it being mid-afternoon, all but one of the tables in the concrete-floored restaurant (a la Division Stumptown in PDX) were taken. We snagged that last table for Liz to enjoy her double macchiato and for me to have a triple mocha (no whip) in ceramic cups. We liked the huge rough-hewn charcoal-gray "drawing" on the one wall of Beacon Hill that quite possibly was made from a Google Earth photo. It wasn't clear what the silver thumbtacks in many of the houses in the drawing signified. Neighborhood residents that have been to Victorola? Liz and I agreed our coffee was "very good." I think I need to experience a macchiato (straight espresso with a splash of heated milk), with its concentrated coffee flavor. My mocha had both coffee bite and sweetness, with the sweetness lording a bit over the coffee flavor, but was still well-made. Of course, coffee always does seem to taste better in a ceramic cup (than a paper cup). read more

I've been eyeing you for some time now, and I finally made time to meet you! I enjoy seeing a coffee shop in this area of town. Inside, I felt welcome by the two staff one saturday morning. I enjoyed hearing offering of milk, soy and rice options for my hot coffee drink! I also splurged and tried one of their tastey treats... i cannot pass up pumpkin glazed donut! EXCELLENT treat. Not greasy or heavy feeling. I cannot recall who their supplier of donuts was, but I will be back for another try at their sweet or savory treats! Coffee was nicely presented with a cute decoration. Nothing interesting or bad about my cup of coffee. Decor was very relaxed with lots of seating options. I love stopping in before work for a chai latte with almond milk! I have tried many places' chai, and I like Victrola's the most. They can adjust the spiciness or sweetness to your liking; the woman who works there will usually ask me how I want it, but I have to tell the man my preference. Go figure. ;) It's also easy to find parking - plenty on Beacon Ave or on a residential street around the corner. A few downsides: I don't love the food selection (mostly donuts and Molly's premade sandwiches), and I think the space lacks a bit in natural light. Note that my chai latte *is* on the pricier side, which probably is not surprising: $4.10 for a 12 oz (translation: "tall") plus 55 cents for almond milk. Am I simply confused? Has the definition of a cappuccino changed? In the era of third wave coffee culture Victrola is iconic. It is a chain, but with a similar cachet to Blue Bottle. It's supposed to be a cup of espresso that's worth at least a sizeable fraction of the incredible $5 you pay for it. My order for a dry cappuccino came out as a latte, and I looked down at it for 30 seconds before I decided that I really shouldn't let this get me down. Maybe the barista misheard me? Or was on latte autopilot? So I tried in my kindest and most apologetic tone to say that I really just wanted espresso and a bit of milk and lots of foam. Which is a cappuccino. Sorry guys. It's a night and day experience between this location and the Capitol Hill one. It starts with the cold decor; I think it's going for cool minimalist, but it doesn't quite get there. I've been in a couple of times and even when it's not busy, the person working was more into talking with somebody else than they were us. So we ordered drinks. And waited a really, really long time for 4 drinks. One was iced. I took a taste of my soy latte and it tasted funny. To the point that I did the old comic standby joke and asked my friends to taste it too. But one of them was already holding out their drink and looking at it funny too. 3 of us didn't finish our drinks :/ I didn't even get past three sips. Bummer. read more

I needed to find a spot for a quick breakfast. This was a gem and I'm so happy I made a U-turn! The service was cheerful and accomplished. My Americano was excellent and served in a very heavy ceramic mug. My scone (blueberry) was also excellent and served on a vintage-looking china plate. The music inside was at just the right volume, so I was able to read without distraction. There were several other patrons, most with laptops, but plenty of seating options. Every time I go in here the person working behind the counter is always more than friendly. They're always prepared and ready to make a drink and they always turn out great. The baristas here are good at what they do. The drinks are always yummy and made properly. Plus, I'm a sucker for the pretty leaves and such they draw in the top of the drinks. There is free wi-fi and the atmosphere is always great. I love the art on the wall. If you get hungry they have sandwiches in the mini-fridge, but I've never tried them. And they sell a few non-coffee drinks out of the fridge, like Mexican Coke! read more

In a word, meh. My husband and I have a theory that this is where Victrola the company sends its misfit baristas out to pasture. My best friend lives across the street so I've come here a lot at her insistence. A couple of the baristas have actually been personable, but they have uniformly been extremely slow. A line of 2 or 3 people means you are waiting for a half hour. It's ridiculous bordering on dumbfounding. The coffee is ok. If you're not a snob, go to The Station by El Centro. The service there is way above average (proactively friendly) and they have mexican hot chocolate. YUM! If you are a coffee snob (like me) take a trip down the hill (or on light rail stop) to Empire in Columbia City. Srsly, I'm a positive person, in fact I think this is my first review that is NOT five stars - but I just can't understand how it can be so slow, so milktoast!
