Definitely one of the best and equally popular food trucks in Wichita. They are also super easy to find, frequenting Central Standard Brewing among other local spots through out the week. Follow them on social media or check their website which has the schedule along with the current menu. The food! The menu changes! The all American burger is one of my favorite in town, super delicious. They have awesome truffle fries. Frequently they have Flag Fries which are super yummy. Recently had the BBLT (made with Benton's Bacon) and it was superb! The tacos are delicious as well. Especially love the Crying Tiger Beef tacos. I so badly want to love The Flying Stove but to be honest, my first experience was a let down. I visited the truck at the Food Trucks at the Fountains event and they ran out of truffle fries less than an hour into the two and a half hour event. For my meal I ordered the Left Coast Steak Sandwich which has grilled tri tip steak, rosemary garlic potato cream, arugula, and fried onions. The sandwich was very cold which I wasn't expecting, and frankly was just bland and lacked flavor. It tasted like it had just been pulled out of the refrigerator it had been sitting in and was plopped on a bun. The employees were very friendly though and I've heard many rave reviews for The Flying Stove so I'm going to chalk my experience up to an off day. In the past four years The Flying Stove has almost single-handedly grown Wichita's food truck scene into what it is today - dozens of trucks, the wildly-popular Food Trucks at the Fountain event, and the creation of the Wichita Food Truck Coalition. Nary a brewery of coffee shop can be found without a food truck parked outside of it on the weekend, and it's put us on par with bigger cities; we're not just playing catch-up here. Even with the many imitators the Flying Stove inspired, there's few that can offer the creativity of the original, with weekly menu rotations that offer accessible takes on a variety of international dishes. It's ambitious, and not always 100% successful, but it's interesting and pretty good, which is really what you need for a successful traveling culinary roadshow like this. I may have had better meals at other trucks, and I've certainly had a lot worse with a lot of other trucks, but when I see The Flying Stove parked somewhere I know that there will be something good there waiting for me. read more

Hello, food truck!! I pulled in at Natural Grocer's where I saw The Flying Stove food truck at the parking lot---score! I just love food trucks and since I've been in Wichita for about a month now, this little food truck has been number one on my "to try" list. Today's menu consisted of caesar salad, shrimp ceviche, panini, burger, and a BLT---I opted for the latter with a side of truffle fries. The bread was grilled and dressed with spicy mayo. The bacon was thick and cut in pieces. It obviously came with your basic lettuce and tomato, but the surprising part of the sandwich was the herbed goat cheese crumbles and the fried egg. Those little cheese crumbles gave this sandwich an added creamy goodness, and a fried egg elevates any sandwich in my opinion. The truffle fries were delectable and the small serving was enough to share with another person. I had my meal with a cold, refreshing can of orange San Pellegrino (purchased inside Natural Grocers). I have gotten food from here multiple times and they never disappoint. Workers and cook are super chill and helpful. Their burgers are always fantastic (they said they use Creekstone beef aka it's Halal certified!!) I stop by today, I agree full heartly with everyone about this place. Food Trucks are a welcome addition to the area, in fact I'm thinking about doing one myself... What was your first impression? Very nice paint job with the keeper of the Plains on it. It also had my kind of music playing which was cool. I got there just as they were setting up so didn't have a wait. How was the Quality of Food? A+++, I had the Braised Pork Slider...braised pork, ginger-apple chutney, garlic sauteed organic kale and the Truffle fries. I loved the slider, the Braised pork was cooked perfect and the kale was ice cold which gave it a good constract and had a pepper in it that spiced it up when I hit it. Just got the pepper flavor a time or two and they were not the real hot kind, just right. The truffle fries were cooked just right and good but they were just not my cup of tea. I did eat about half of them, and its was a very big serving. and I enjoyed trying them for a first time. What about the valve for the Buck? I was up in Wichita visiting a friend who told me about these burgers that were gourmet, at street food prices. I'm always up for an adventure with food, and definitely like a good burger, so I was game. The Flying Stove food truck travels throughout Wichita and sets up shop at different places around the city each day that it's open. She looked up their location and menu for the day on Facebook with no trouble. We arrived at it's location and found the truck with no issues. They had been operating for about an hour and a half by the time we showed up and were out of the potatoes, but luckily they were serving up this famous burger: Flying Stove Umami Burger - seasoned beef, roasted tomato, parmesan crisp, caramelized onions, arugula, $7. Ordering was easy, and they were very accommodating to make my burger without the tomato. I was happy to find out that they took credit card, and I was even able to leave my tip via credit card since I was cashless that day. Bonus points for ease. Since they were out of the potatoes, my friend ordered her burger as well as the Seasonal Snow Peas - julienned snow peas, grand padano cheese, mint, and pancetta, $4. The staff (or the only one we interacted with) was very friendly and nice and chatted with us while we waited for our food before a small line started to form. The food was not precooked and sitting under hot lamps, so we waited a little while for it to be cooked. I honestly don't recall how long it was (less than 10 minutes though), but it was a very reasonable amount of time given that food is prepared to order. They also have speakers on the outside of the food truck, so we enjoyed the sun, listened to music, and chatted. By far the coolest food truck I have ever visited! The important part - The food! The burger was amazing! I was expecting a delicious burger that I would make at home myself, but this was far beyond anything I would make, and I'm quite the foodie. The meat was seasoned so well with just the right amount of everything. I initially thought it was a touch on the salty side, but it worked with everything else on the burger. The arugula was fresh and of high quality. The onions were naturally sweet and cooked perfectly. The parmesan crips was a very nice, different addition. It added a slightly different texture to the mix, but was rich, which balanced everything else out. And the part that held this wonderful concoction all together? The bun was also great. This was not your standard, weak bun you buy at the grocery store or that gets served up at the popular chain restaurants. This was a quality bread of substance and able to hold everything together without getting drenched in liquids or falling apart, but was also not too dense. The burger was hefty and moist, but far from greasy, so the bun was a good fit. It also had a light spread of something that seemed mayo based. It wasn't obvious it was there, and was just enough to add some flavors and leave you craving more. I didn't care for the Seasonal Snow Peas, but this was personal preference, and no fault of the cooks. The snow peas were fresh and crisp, and seasoned with some sort of dressing (that is the part I didn't care for). I'm not a dressing fan, but even though I didn't care for it, I could tell it wasn't bad. The cheese shavings on top were delicious and plentiful. My friend loved them! Overall, this place gets a 5. 4 seemed too low, but I would do a 4.5 if available. The only reason I would knock off a half point is that I like food trucks that provide picnic table seating and some shade. Food wise though, this place is a solid 5. It was a great experience and outstanding food, served up by a very friendly (and hot!) guy! What more could two girls ask for on a nice Sunday lunch? I've heard a ton about the FS and couldn't wait to try it. They were close to my office today, so I walked over for lunch and ordered the Thai Fried Chicken Wrap....thai marinated fried chicken, fresh herbs, finely diced jalapeno & shallots, red cabbage, wrapped in a flour tortilla. I'd give it an 'A' for sure, the combination of flavors was excellent with just the right amount of heat. FS gets extra kudos for using fresh jalapenos, and the herbs (cilantro and maybe basil or mint?) added a wonderful fresh contrast to the heat. The lightly breaded chicken was perfectly crisp and the cabbage also added a nice crunch. The only sort-of issue I might mention: at first glance the portion seemed a bit on the small side (for $6) but it was more than enough to fill me up for lunch. I will likely go back many more times to try different menu items! read more

How fun is this place! I've been dying to go here and try some of this "street" cuisine. I heard about them and was stalking them on Facebook all week looking at all their food and menus with my mouth wide open and drool falling out of it. They were serving dinner in Riverside Park on the night that we decided to go but they typically serve lunch...I think one of the best parts about this experience was trying to find it! It's like a little game driving around looking for this fun orange-ish truck. So we pull up into the parking lot and they had some reggae music playing from the speakers which was cool. They were very nice when asking us what we wanted and serving us our food. We got the vietnamese banh mih sandwich (which was much larger than I had expected from their photos on Facebook), korean bulgolgi (steak and other flavors wrapped up in lettuce), warm quinoa sald (i had been reading about quinoa on pinterest and was pretty pumped to try that!) and the BEST, a turkey slider (DELICIOUS). cute truck! only open for lunch from 11-1:30, 3-4 days a week and you have to kind of follow it along on the internet to see where they will be parked. I went with my friend though the high was 106F just because i wanted to see what it was about. I had the Three Beet Salad and it was really gourmet food, theres nothing I would change about the flavor but for $5, it was really pretty small. The braised pork slider was $4 and it was good, but it was still a small slider. I was driving through Wichita on the way to see my parents, and my sister recommended this food truck. Showed up at the ICT pop-up park at noon on a Tuesday, and there was no wait time to get my order in. Ordered the French onion burger, a chicken sopa, and small truffle fries. My food came out hot and delicious in less than 5 minutes. Amazing! The burger was super tender and meaty, cooked medium, albeit a bit greasy. There was a nice mild grill char on the buns and the all the accoutrements were in balance. The sopa was also excellent, and had plenty of cilantro, a bonus for me. The truffle fries were outstanding. Salty, and very crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. They had a nice umami kick from Parmesan cheese and a pleasant sprinkling of Rosemary. Total damage was only $16, which is just fine for the quality of food. Everyone was very courteous and the flavored were outstanding. Can't wait for my next visit! read more

AMBIANCE & DECOR: This food truck is one pimped out ride yo. I love how the paint job rocks the Keeper of the Plains and is decked out with speakers blasting music. SERVICE: The cashier was friendly and seems to have good rapport with returning customers. They gave my friend free food to try once so that's always nice! FOOD: Their menu and food style is always switching up, but more than likely you'll find something that will peak your taste bud's curiosity. I ordered a Steak Frites Burrito (steak, truffle fries, cheese, and salsa wrapped in a tortilla) and Panzanella Salad (grilled bread, different types of tomato, and cucumber drenched in a balsamic vinaigrette) combo for $10 even. I also tasted their Aranchini "flavor balls" (fried risotto balls with sausage and cheese). The burrito is no California Burrito BUT it was still good! The steak wasn't as tender as I would've liked it to be but the fries were cooked well and was a proportionate compliment to the steak. I very much enjoyed the hint of lime flavor in the burrito. The Panzanella Salad was awesome. I loved every bite of it. The bread maintained its texture and crunch and the tomatoes were fresh and juicy. The Aranchini was delicious and I prefer it without the accompanying pepperoni-tomato jam. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and delightfully tasty! Writing about this meal has me craving more... OVERALL: It's only been my first visit there, but I will definitely make an effort to try more of their "gourmet street cuisine!" I have been following The Flying Stove's facebook page for about 4 months before getting the opportunity/apt schedule to make it there. Today was the day that changed everything; the day it all began, one might say. Upon arriving at their 1st and Mosely location, I noticed a slight increase in the pace of my heartbeats. A subtle sweat of excitement, of mystery, of non-consequential exploration enveloped me. "We've made it," I thought to myself repeatedly. This isn't the place you can expect an obnoxious, overwhelming food smell for blocks - usually attributed to poorly cleaned equipment, or low quality, over-seasoned meat. The establishment was crisp and spotless, with an obvious expression of "Well oiled people satisfying machine". Though you may say machine to yourself, the actual mental image upon sight is more like 'ballroom'. The fluid motion and delicate grace of each employee forced my perception to quickly lapse, until I forgot I was even outside...let alone at a truck. The way they weaved in and out of each other, never struggling for ingredients, grunting to grab things, or waving anything over the delicate cooking area that may cause any unwanted "particles" to fall on to your relics, was enamoring. The transparency of cooking it in front of you is easy, plenty of places do that and let's be honest - you don't watch for more than 30 seconds. This is art. You are implored to watch every last moment, without even cognitively recognizing. Meditative food arts. I came with two friends, between us we ordered everything on the menu - totaling to $35. This didn't make sense. I wanted to offer my car keys, my house deed, perhaps a next born child...but their transcendent means assured me that none of this would be necessary. That I, am actually the lucky one that they would even take money. The ingredients didn't make sense. By the time my food arrived, I was breathing very heavily. My mouth was palpitating unlike ever before, I started feeling trembles. I legitimately worried for my health at this point. The way they simply combine minimal ingredients, minimal spices, and let food quality speak for itself is at the least, a ballsy move in a town like this. My pork was heated to perfection, my bun somehow strong enough to withhold the viscosity at which I struck. The banana peel...somehow stalking through the pineapple relish...like a treasure chest with legs. At the end of the experience, I start to wonder how long it's been. Why I haven't felt compelled to shave, or urinate in the last 2 days. I start to think back about conversation had in the meantime (what few we could muster between meditations), and how my dog has probably destroyed everything I own..until I get a phone call. I'll never remember who that negligible person was, what pitiful thing they said, or even the act of answering, but I remember seeing the time. Eight minutes had passed. I've been looking forward to trying TFS for a while now, so when I had the day off and they were close to home on the west side I went and gave them a try. The tri-tip sandwich was very flavorful and loaded with tender juicy beef. The truffle fries were very good as well. Hubby and I each got a sandwich, and the fries were big enough to split between us. I showed up around 11:30 and there was not a big crowd yet so I only waited a few minutes before my order was ready. The truck had a fun atmosphere with music playing and the (cute!) guys in the truck in their rock Tshirts were very fun to watch cooking and singing along to the music. So I tried the fries and they were frozen however when I was leaving the owner caught my attention and explained to me that these were a popular item and that he really was apologetic about serving frozen french fries and he actually let me try one of his chicken sandwiches which was very delicious.
