I think this is the first time I've been here, I know I was here decades ago when it was Walt's and it was always good but my experience today was just ok. I got there for an early lunch so they had just opened. The fries must have been cooked in old grease because they were really dark and seemed to be overcooked. The burger was kind of dry, the meat didn't seem to be seasoned and the lettuce was very grainy and dry. The burger was on the bland side. Well, this was a surprise. After finding this establishment on Yelp, and having another stop on the way, we found the most satisfying place for lunch. A small, unobtrusive spot located on a main thoroughfare through town, with kind of a tight fit in the parking lot, and a squeezed-in dining area, the food was remarkable! We had the pork tender combo and were not disappointed. I chose the hand-cut fries, and my hub had the best homemade chips. No need for ketchup-dunking on those fries! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, cheesesteak, hot link, French Fries, and Onion Rings. I was pleasant surprised when I at the cheesesteak, I have had numerous cheesesteaks from Philadelphia and the cheesesteak at West Street Burger can satisfy a cheesesteak craving. West Street Burger hit the spot surprisingly well, though I think it was more because of my increasing hunger on Saturday night as more and more other dinner options fell through. Still, there was enough seasoning and bun-meat ratio on the 1/4 to satisfy me, and the meat, while typically overcooked, was not to a crisp. The mustard-pickle-onion movement in this town - henceforth coined by me as "MPO" - is one I can get behind, as can WSB. Cheap, too. The fries were thin and seasoned well but undercooked and limp. The onion rings were freshly made and admirably so - crunchy and with no bites of onion coming loose from their batter prison. Could have used a little more salt, though. I used to be of the opinion that fresh was better than frozen, but if this is the burger I get from frozen, I would almost have that over a lot of the more greasy options in this city. If you can't make a successful burger from scratch, then at least make a successful burger from frozen. read more

I had fries and my husband had onion rings. My favorite thing about the burger is that they were simple. I had my burger dressed with mustard, mayo, pickles and onions. The pickles are chopped and placed in large quantities along with the onions. Ingenious. The fries were crisp and I had a bite of an onion ring. I have been told that my quest for the Best Burger Joint in Wichita would not be complete without a stop at West Street Burger. It's a nice small local joint on North West Street that is known in the area to make a good Burger. I had never been here before and was happy to go try them out. They have a drive thu and also take call in orders which is nice if you are on a short lunch break. They have a 1/4 LB for about $2.99, 1/2 LB for about $3.99, and a LB for $4.99 which I though was very good prices. The fries are homemade shoestring style and cooked crispy with light salt.. I ordered the 1/2 LB with fries and water since they had coke products (I work for Pepsi, LOL). The price tab for lunch was about $5.86 and even tho its not a fast food place my order came within 5 min. The patties were the thin processed type but were cooked just right with a good flavor and juice but not soaking thu the bun. It had chopped pickles, onion and mustard on it. I enjoyed it and would rate it as a very good burger and the fries were very good also. I will go back again and will be happy to recommend it to you when in the area. read more

Ordered: Philly Cheesesteak + Fries Price: $6.86 Food: A decent cheesesteak with its share of strengths and weaknesses. First of all, in Philadelphia, the phillys are made with thinly sliced pieces of meat, not cubes. I don't mind either way but the problem with this sandwich is that the meat was on the dry side. It was neither tender nor tough. They made up for the dryness by filling the sandwich with warm gooey cheese which was tasty but competed a little too much with the flavor of the meat. They don't pack the sandwich with tons of fillings but put enough mushrooms, bell-peppers and onions to keep it interesting. I was especially a fan of the bun which was substantial and slightly chewy, adding character to the sandwich instead of just being a barrier between the meat and your hand. Overall I think they need to use higher quality meat and cut down the amount of cheese but it was still an enjoyable sandwich. The shoestring fries were slightly crispy and well-seasoned. read more

We eat at West Street Burger a few times a year, the burgers are pretty good, the fries are pretty good and so are the tots (my choice). They come as they should (at least in Wichita) with mustard, pickle and onion. Their hotlink is probably the best in town. They have a good menu with lots of options. I agree with the other reviewers though, it's small and seating is often a concern. If I go by myself, I feel self-conscious about taking a table for four by myself.
