I can see why this is a Wichita staple. It felt like some where my Grandpa would have taken me for lunch. Service was quick. To me, the menu was short and to the point, which I appreciate. They serve a handful of items and they do it well. My husband had the Polish sausage and limeade. I had the kraut dog and strawberry shake. No complaints. Service was great. Cashier was great. Food..not so great. The hot dogs were super small and dry. There was almost no mustard on them. Maybe a gram of onions. I didn't even taste any relish. Great place for a no frills burger and crinkle fries! Staff is friendly (I usually use the drive thru). My normal order is a hamburger, fries and a cherry limeade with a side of jalapeños. The toasted bun is great with the burger. Fries are always crunchy. I've always enjoyed my orders here. read more

I usually go through the drive thru and the staff is sometimes great, sometimes off. But I've never had any real problems. Busy during lunch. It's a Wichita classic, and I recommend anyone to try one of their dogs. I have no idea what their cheeseburgers are like though, after all it is a hot dog establishment, but people seem to enjoy them as well. I've been going to dog n shake my whole life. And it's always been the same! Last time I went there I noticed they have pickle fries! Yes! If you like fried pickles you'll love these, because they are in the "fry" shape they aren't sad and soggy! Always get cheese on your fries, always! Treat yourself! The cheese sauce is straight deliciousness with a sprinkle of seasoning on top! I usually get the normal hot dogs but I've had a thing for sauerkraut lately, so I tried one of those, although it's a messy presentation and I can see how people would be disappointed with the stuffing of sauerkraut and mustard below the dog...it's still yummy. And that's really all that matters. And honestly, the kraut under the dog keeps the mess while eating down. read more

Went through the drive thru and ordered a chili cheese dog and onion rings. Got home and I had a hamburger and fries. Good work.

Service here can be hit and miss. Great when it's done right but normal service means fries are under cooked and drive-thru has a wait. Today they tried to charge me $23.00plus dollars for a single combo meal. I waited at window as my order was verbally triple checked. What I got was not the correct order. I live in So CA (not Cali). My housekeeper mentioned Dog N Shake and how much she misses those hot dogs. I'm always looking for a good biz venture and I'm not afraid to look at food establishments. I read the reviews and noticed that they were mostly bad. I don't place a lot of value on reviews because most of the time they're written by disgruntled ex employees. I will be calling cooperate to see if there's any obstacles to owning a franchise. You have only 3 locations. Are they franchised? In SoCA there's a real need for a good hot dog. Stopped in here to give their burger and fries a try. What was your first impression? I was the only customer and could hear the two people that were working flirting with each other the whole time there. How was the Quality of Food? Order double cheese burger, they were processed patties and just had no flavor. There was no lettuce, tomato on it either. It did have mustard, onion and a pickle. The fries were also processed wavy style fries. What about the valve for the Buck? Normal prices as most fast food places. How was the appearance and cleanliness? Tables were dirty, hadn't been wiped down from the last people. All the tables were like that too, not just mine. Did you receive exactly what you ordered? I guess I have to say yes to this. Dog N Shake is one of those places you drive past and can't possibly envision a point in your life where you would so desperate to ever consider eating there. It doesn't stay open late, it looks old, and a little dirty, even from the outside. At the same time, we - the people of the fast food capital of the country - have long had trouble embracing the hot dog as a legitimate source of good eats, when cities much bigger and much smaller than us make hotdoggery an art. Still, we turn our noses up at places like Linkhäus, Dogs n' Hots, Let's Be Frank aka And the Wiener Is..., and Imbiss Grill, rejecting our sausage options over and over again until we're left with British Banger Company; Bierocks, Brats, & BBQ; Relish It! (when the guy gets off his butt to wheel the cart to Old Town...) and Dog N Shake. Specialty sausages aside, the simple hot dog is fast food, and not hard to make in itself. Even DnS' approach - cooking the dogs on a rotating carousel not unlike your neighborhood gas station - is fine by me. The fast food frankfurter is about the whole package, and DnS works to create a dog that doesn't end up down the front of your shirt. Between the pressed and toasted bun (I liked that quite a bit, actually) and the careful application of chili and slaw, it went down without a fight. I have severe doubts how freshly-made the chili was, and fries were frozen (though my preferred wavy frozen type of fry), but this was supposed to be cheap and fast, so I didn't mind. Judging the messiness of the breading, the onion rings certainly weren't frozen, and they were left in the fryer for a really long time, so everything, including the bare pieces of onion themselves, were super crispy. Definitely the way to go here. The Polish sausage on the menu isn't a polish sausage in the literal sense, but rather a normal dog that gets a dip in the deep fryer. Perhaps harkening back to those good old days when people were making Dumb Polish jokes instead of Dumb Blonde jokes? DnS has been doing this since 1954, after all. In any case, I liked it better than the normal dog, though I don't see why I have to pay and extra $.50 for the privilege. Don't worry - I also tested the vanilla shakes, and they passed muster. All for the sake of the review, of course. I thought Dog N Shake was going to be a pit, but they rose above my meek expectations to provide about as close to a fast food hot dog as you're going to find in Wichita. It's not glamorous, but there's something comforting about chowing down on a couple of mystery meat frankfurters every once in a while. read more

I drug my husband here promising the most amazing dogs and burgers on a toasted bun and to die for malts. Well it wasn't quite what I remembered it to be from my childhood. First, we got overcharged for a drink we didn't order. My order was wrong (it came out with everything when I wanted it plain), and my malt cup was covered in stickiness to the point that it practically couldn't be touched for fear of contamination. The place was dead, we were the only customers in there for half an hour, but they had like 4 employees. I can't see how they are making any money at all. In town for business and decided to stop by this Dog-N-Shake restaurant 10/12/18 around 6:30pm. I have to say this place is one of the most disgusting establishment I have ever come across in my travels around the country. Worse is the attitude and incredibly poor customer service of the female staff who took my order and payment. She basically carried herself in a way to suggest she'd rather be home napping than working. And after my order was taken she proceeded to get on her phone and chat away with someone using language I dare not to repeat here. How she even got hired in the first place is truly baffling, but then again this company must not even have basic hiring standards. If she is the best this company could do then this is a company that will not survive that long. Bad customer service drives away people. This place truly needs some major clean up. read more

I went in today and order cheese fries it seems as if they re dumped them in the oil on the bottom the fries were a little burnt tasted weird I felt uncomfortable there was a man checking me out that was an employee there from the time I got there until the time I drove away the person who took my ordered was not professional.
