On Father's Day weekend, we put our name on the waitlist at 8:55 a.m. and were told the wait would be "about 25 minutes." After waiting an entire hour, we checked back at 9:55 a.m. to see what was going on. Instead of being seated, we were told it would be another 25 minutes. Delays happen, but being given inaccurate wait times and then having them extended without any communication is unacceptable. If you value your time, I would recommend going elsewhere. We had a great experience here! We got here at around 2:15pm to kick off our day at the beach. Even though the The Food Shack closes at 2:00pm, the server behind the counter was very gracious and still took our order (and the orders of some people behind us) without complaining. We were really impressed by the location. The Food shack is located right on the beach which is the perfect way to enjoy a lunch on a Summer day in Point Pleasant. They have lots of umbrellaed outdoor seating, and some benches in the sun, so there are options for everyone. They also have some indoor seating, and the inside is adorable. We ordered a swiss grilled cheese with tomato on top, and a BLT. Each item came with pickles and a bag of chips. Each item was priced reasonably, especially considering typical Jersey Shore pricing. My grilled cheese was great. The bread/cheese/tomato ratio was perfect. The cheese was gooey, and stayed gooey even as the sandwich cooled. The bread on the grilled cheese was crispy on the outside and still soft and warm on the inside. I didn't know what to expect from a small shack on the beach, especially with something as simple as a grilled cheese, but I really enjoyed it. My wife had a breakfast sandwich that she loved. We split a spinach salad and I had a tuna melt on sourdough with a side of crabby fries. My sandwich was grilled perfectly. Tuna with melted cheddar and light, crispy buttery sourdough made for a great sandwich. It's located on the southernmost of the boardwalk... you passed some residential houses, and you will see this little white shack standing alone!! We were greeted with a warm hello as we walked in, they don't have a lot of table "inside" (when they close the garage door), but when the weather is nice, they have lots of tables outside!!! We ordered lobster grilled cheese and beach house classic (basically pork roll, egg and cheese on raisin bread toast) they both tasted delicious!! We also ordered sweet potato fries, and to my surprise!! They used 2 different potato - purple and orange, and to my surprise!! The purple potato was soooo yummy!!!! Small little brunch place right at the end of the boardwalk. Super friendly service, the server engaged my kid several times. The lobster grilled cheese was absolutely delicious. If you like lobster, you'll really enjoy it. The beach house is pretty much a Taylor ham egg and cheese sandwich but they put a twist on it using bread instead of roll. Place gets very crowded quickly (small dining area right on the boardwalk). Staff is very warm and accommodating (apologized profusely for the wait). They put together several tables for us all to sit together. Menu has a lot of comfort breakfast and lunch items, all reasonably priced. I had the avocado toast. The bread was whole grain, the avocado mash used with fresh and perfectly ripe. They had an unique twist by adding "everything bagel" seasoning and siracha sauce. The Food Shack was next door to our hotel and what a gem! We checked into our hotel around 1pm and while we checked in and settled in our room it was close to 2pm. We walked over to The Food Shack thinking it closed at 2:30 but they were already closed for the day. However, they very kindly allowed us to order from the to-go window and allowed us to eat at their outdoor counter. We got Buffalo chicken wraps and chicken fingers with fries. Everything was delicious. And the people were SOOOO nice. The following morning we came over for breakfast. I got the Captain Pete: two eggs any style, home fries, choice of toast, and the option to add a meat. I had over medium eggs, multi grain bread, and bacon. My good was great. Eggs were cooked to perfection and the bread was good but the star of the show were the home fries. They were crispy and fluffy at the same time and very well seasoned. My husband and daughter had the French toast with link sausage. The sausage was really good. Nice thick links that they split in half and cooked on the griddle. And once again, the service was prompt and friendly. Would come back again. I understand the hype. read more

The Food Shack is a cute little restaurant right on the boardwalk next to the beach. Friendly staff, outdoor and indoor tables (and a sit down counter). Great location if your nearby in one of the motels or renting a nearby beach house. But not a bad location if you need to drive there. Coming from California - and being a Jersey boy from way back, I had to have one of the (Taylor Ham) pork breakfast sandwiches. OMG, was it good. Quick service - not too busy when I arrived. Ordered a bunch of sandwiches for all the relatives staying at our vacation rental. Everyone was happy! Lot of locals show up here. There's a parking lot on the street side of the restaurant. Steps from our motel, we discovered The Food Shack. It's true- it's not really a shack! Cute little mom and pop cafe with tables on the boardwalk and some inside. It does get very crowded with return customers. Some say you can watch the sun come up while having breakfast, but I'll never see THAT! ;) Service was great: we walked the boardwalk while waiting for our table and received a text when it was ready. That was nice. They stop serving breakfast at 11:30 and just serve lunch and specials. I'm told they add on a service charge if a credit card is used. Not sure if that is still the case. So, my companion started with the special chicken and corn chowder with grilled corn muffin. Both very good (a little too much white pepper for me, but others would consider it VERY mild). He had a grilled American cheese on rye with tomato and ham. He said, twice, "This is VERY good." I couldn't resist the lobster grilled cheese. Honestly, it was very good but hard to taste the lobster- I had sour dough bread and dill Havarti cheese. They actually used enough butter in the grilling- not like some wimpy dry panini. Both of our sandwiches were served with chips. A small side salad would have been better, but I didn't ask. Coffee was fresh and refilled. No room to try their cherry pie, unfortunately. They also use breads from the famous Mueller's Bakery in Bay Head. On the Sunday we ate here, there was live music for a couple hours: a pleasant addition. I expect we'll return. Check in with QR code. You can wait outside (there are some seats) or walk the boardwalk. If you want to walk the 2 miles round trip to the end of boardwalk before eating, scan the code, ask what approx wait time is and submit your name when appropriate (they only hold it for 5 mins after you're texted that your table is ready). Had the Mueller's French toast with fruit (made with sweet raisin bread), the yogurt & fruit parfait (mostly fruit & granola with some yogurt) and eggs with toast & home fries (hint -potatoes are cooked in or near the bacon - even though they say they aren't . I'm lacto-ovo vegetarian for 50 years and know when something tastes like bacon) Not a whole lot vegetarian stuff for lunch (salad or avacado toast) but at least there's a choice. We usually go 2-3 times a season for either Sunday breakfast or to hear music at night. Food at night is all appetizers and costs about 25% more than it should. Last time we went there was a $10 per person charge for the music - what? So for my table of 5 I paid an extra $50 on my bill to hear some guy play an acoustic guitar. It isn't often that you find a really good mom and pop breakfast/lunch place on the boardwalk at the shore. The Food Shack is just this kind of place. It's no frills, low key, indoor, outdoor breakfast and lunch only which is served from 7:30a-2p Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Everything here is prepared from scratch including their baked goods. Gail who is the owner along with Chef M do a great job serving up scrumptious breakfast and lunches. From the minute I arrived, Carol who was my server and sister to the owner Gail couldn't have been nicer. I could tell the staff here really loves their job, and they take pride in everything they serve. The staff is just so nice to all the customers and each one is greeted with a hello and a smile. It reminded me of how businesses were run 30 years ago, every customer is treated like family. I came after the breakfast run, so their fabulous breakfast wasn't available. It wound up being just fine because they do a great job with lunch too. I started with their homemade New England Clam Chowder. It was delicious! They didn't skimp on anything it was loaded with lots of fresh clams, potatoes, spices and it was very creamy. My New England Clam Chowder had tons of flavor, and it was nice and thick. I added in oyster crackers to keep it really authentic. I decided to try their Grouper Sandwich. It too was wonderful. Gail told me she pan fry's it with butter and lemon juice and spices instead of deep frying it which keeps it light and more flavorful. What a difference this makes because you can really taste how fresh their fish is. My grouper sandwich was served on a brioche bun with lettuce along with their homemade chipotle mayo on the side. The side of the day that it came with was fresh tomatoes and mozzarella salad ( the sides change daily,) and a bag of chips. I took half of my lunch home because the soup was delicious and filling I couldn't eat everything, because I also ordered a side of fries to share with my friend. She ordered the exact same thing and loved her food too. The Food shack is a unique restaurant because it not only serves food but it also has a lovely gift shop with unique nautical themed items, clothing, and jewelry and specialty gifts. Daughter Cali runs the gift shop. My experience here was one that was very relaxing, good friendly service, and homemade from scratch prepared food. Good Morning from the Point Pleasant Boardwalk Upon the recommendation of a friend we visited The Food Shack this morning. We can't tell you how pleased we were with our breakfast and full experience. Get there early and come hungry. #1 Their coffee is on point. They have a fantastic brew. It's not bitter. It is a perfect accompaniment to their fresh squeezed OJ or other juices. #2 Build your own omelet & pick what you like best! I went for the Cali Bowl with fresh cherry tomatoes and avocado over eggs of my choosing, while my wife got her omelet cooked to perfection. #3 Service was fast! This isn't to say food was rushed...bacon was perfectly crisp, and the food delivered was delicious! Fruit was fresh. Hash brown potatoes were out of this world. It was a perfect breakfast listening to the ocean waves and seeing the morning walkers and runners. Looking for take away coffee? They got that. Our coffee was so good. Happy Wednesday Adventurers! I stopped by this place because it was right on the beach and had really great food rating. The outside dining area is small but that's expected because of Covid. It's right in front of a sand dune so you get the beach feeling with a little bit of coverage from the wind. I wanted to sit outside but there was an impending storm coming through to which they warned me that may have to close entirely down (not big enough for all guests inside) or it was too long of a wait time. I was starving. I chose to order food to go. The to-go option has less items to be able to order than inside and it seems that they were out of a few vegetables whether it was a task the cook did not want to partake or they were out of stuff (I overheard a convo about whether the cook will add peppers to a sandwich). There is also a 3.9% charge for credit cards so I recommend BRING CASH. I ordered the taylor ham, egg, and cheese sandwich. The roll used was a potato roll and I was not expecting that heavy of a bread that early?? Maybe its preference but with the delicious cheese and salty taylor ham the bread seemed to make it really sweet? I was worried I wouldn't be able to order home fries since its limited items but thankfully I was able to. A decent sized order, with a bit of spice to them and perfectly crisped. I also ordered the cold brew nitro with almond milk. It was a very small cup considering the overall price? The total price was $19 plus a tip(in the time of Covid I try to always tip well). Was this meal worth it? I'm on the fence given the length of time, the briskness of how an order was taken, the texture, and price. Great spot in a pinch to enjoy the nice walk up the 'boardwalk', with the beach on one side and really beautiful condos on the opposite. We were seated immediately. The coffee was good. Service was definitely on the slower side, but it was okay. It was a beautiful day outside and I was really in no rush.
