Have been to the Forge several time over the last two years. It has always been a pleasure great service and food. Tonight service was average and was disappointed in the Shrimp tacos, 2 shrimp per taco...come on.. Daughter had their burger and fries she said it was delicious. Music on stage was great. Sometimes when there's only one or two restaurants in town, it can either be spectacular or a complete dive. The Forge comes out on the spectacular side. They offer outdoor seating, local musicians, a varied bar with wine, beer, and mixed drinks and to top that all off, fantastic food that will fill both vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Tops on my list: portobello sandwich and the Gorgonzola salad with pears and walnuts. They also have a wide variety of pizzas (with a crust that can only be hand made-thin, delish and crispy), and salads. Don't blink as you drive through Ben Wheeler, TX: you could miss an opportunity for a great meal! read more

Wonderful bar/grill in Ben Wheeler!! Certainly "off the beaten track," but well worth the effort to find this gem!! The staff couldn't be more hospitable and the food was great!!! We had beers (excellent), shrimp stuffed mushrooms (awesome), bacon wrapped and cheese stuffed jalapeños (really, really good), and fried avocados (amazingly good)!! If you ever find yourself driving around near Tyler, Texas, don't miss this terrific spot in the equally cool (quaint) town of Ben Wheeler!! read more

Great blue cheese burger, excellent chicken nachos and brisket quesadilla. Bartender makes a perfect, not too sweet margarita.

The burgers were fantastic!! There were 11 of us that rode over from Allen to see what the place is all about. The small dining room was about half full so we had to wait for a few minutes for a table to clear so we could all be seated together. The only waitress/bartender handled the entire restaurant with ease (looked so, but I'm sure it is with great talent and practice that she made it look easy). A couple of folks waited longer than they expected for the food to arrive but it seemed reasonable to me considering we are a group of 11. Most of us ordered the burgers which were on special for the day and mine was perfectly medium, as ordered. A couple of others came out a little more done that they had asked for. The meat was tasty and delicious, as if they ground it in the back just as we ordered it. Everyone enjoyed the food and other than the two burgers too done for taste, we were all pleased with the quality, taste and presentation. Because we waited a while, the bartender brought out some baskets of their blue chips and salsa, which were also good, and really the hit the spot since we were all hungry. The beers were cold, the iced tea was good and not watered down and the prices were in line with the quality of food we ordered. Might be considered overpriced for a small town venue, but the food in no way is typical "small town fare". We had a great ride out and a great ride home and I would recommend this place to anyone heading that way. I will definitely be back! read more

Always have great food the past couple times I've been there. Really awesome looking place too. Used to be an old forge hence the name or at least that's what I've been told. Breakfast is top notch and I highly recommend getting up early to go get it. The live music at night really adds to the whole atmosphere and is fun to go to. read more

Was a favorite until small town collaboration kicked in and we were not served. My Wife and I had been at Moores across the street. Service was horrible, the waitress never sat us, we had to seat ourselves, I had to go to the bar to get two waters. Waitress finally appears, we order one mixed drink, macaroni and cheese bite and sandwich. Cheese bites and drink comes but no sandwich. We call over lackluster waitress who denied we gave order and manager comped our meal. i left a 6 dollar tip and we walked to the Forge. In the meantime, the folks at Moores called over and told them not to serve us out of pure spite. Dawn the Manager at the Forge would not serve saying 'once a call comes in we cut you off'. Really. One drink and mac and cheese bites and we are 'cut off'. No this was collaboration between these two businesses and retribution for complaining about poor service at Moores. I knew Brooks Gremmels well and he would have flipped out over this. I made sure the family knows because if they did this small town b.s. to us, they do it to others. There are repercussions to actions. So my review to you dear reader, is order and if they provide terrible service, heavens to mergatroid don't complain, the small town staff at either restaurant will cut you off. And for the record we were not intoxicated nor had anything before we went in. We will never be back. Enjoy Ben Wheeler but be cautious. read more

We were visiting Canton for first Monday Trade Days. We needed a place to grab a good meal and a beer. This place turned out great. It's quaint, and the staff is very friendly. The burgers were delicious and we had a few Shiner Bocks on tap. To top things off, they had live music. Great place in the middle of nowhere. read more

My husband & I enjoyed a weekend at Ben Wheeler, TX to attend the Canton Trade Days, while we were there we enjoyed going to The Forge for dinner. What was good was the music, everyone was so nice & friendly. It did take a long time for our dinner but the music was excellent! And this place was packed! Have recently been to Forge, great food. Pay attention to your credit/debit card receipts. I have been overcharged on my bank account , more than $9 on bank account than was signed for at the Forge. This has happened twice and very upsetting. Plus waitress was given a generous cash tip. I will return but plan to pay in cash in the future!! read more

The food is good but slightly overpriced. The resaurant has an arty hill country vibe to it and the bar is decked out with tree branches and oil paintings. Its THE place to go in Ben Wheeler. There is a back area that looks like a greenbelt and a covered outdoor venue behind a creek. I always walk around and explore the property after eating. Try their Moscow Mule at the bar. The beer selection is ok but they need more local beers and IPAs. read more

Couldn't have been worse. Decided to go to BW from Edom after art show on Saturday. Picked Forge because was less busy than other restaurant Had to flag down waitress as we sat outside. First waitress cordial and brought drinks and menu. Ordered food and shortly after the restaurant decided their septic tank needed to be empty. The septic truck backed in to driveway with irritating backup signal. They then proceeded to empty tank and really stunk up the place with the sewer gas. Couldn't that have been scheduled at a time when there wasn't a full restaurant? Our meal had not come yet so told waitress we were leaving and left $20 bucks on table to cover it. She was surly about the whole thing and said she didn't want our money. Also saw a couple of other tables empty out. Anyway that experience was total disaster and could not rate the food. May have been good--don't know. No apologies or anything about the stink. Think ahead people. read more

Appetizers are good, servers are hit and miss. Sometimes a pronounced Deliverance vibe. Live music is also very hit and miss, sometimes good, sometimes crappy covers of mediocre songs. Incredibly cool wood bar and cool pictures on the walls, best part of the place. read more

Start off with two or three of their fabulous appetizers...French Fries with bacon and blue cheese - sound good? They are awesome! Their pizzas are great and my favorite are the pulled pork tacos served on soft flour tortillas on a plate filled with interesting condiments. Give The Forge a call about the early morning breakfasts they have on certain days. Of course, on the weekend they usually have live music, during the day it is big fun and great food and the Night Life is amazing. The Forge is an East Texas gathering place in historic Ben Wheeler - the tiny village with wonderful gift shops and an active Art Community. Yall Come! read more
