Krystal is a true gem and I would recommend anyone going to The Forge, to ask for her. Stephanie however, (who didn't even wait on us) was rude, inconsiderate, and disrespectful of our group. I felt she went out of her way to be rude to our group of ladies, of which was so uncalled for. Krystal had customer service out of this world... very fast on refills, kind and considerate. BE CAREFUL you might get food poisoning probably from all the flies buzzing around. The food was below average. My burger was bland and the bacon with it was more burnt and the price for it was to much. the only good part about my dish were the fries, but I had trouble enjoing the food with all the flies buzzing around me. Who would've guessed you could find a restaurant like The Forge in Ben Wheeler!!! This place is amazing and has a menu to rival restaurants in North Dallas. Ben Wheeler isn't even a wide place in the rural road in Van Zandt County, but to have a restaurant in The Forge that is worth driving out to the country enjoy is amazing. I had a salmon filet that tasted fresh and was seasoned and cooked just right. My wife had an artichoke pizza that was outstanding. The live music was provided by Cami Maki, who you need to hear to believe. Very entertaining with a strong voice and really nice guitar skills performing folk style music, with an edge! We expected country music but were pleasantly surprised that was not the case. Take a drive to the country to The Forge, you won't be disappointed! Nice atmosphere, had chips and queso and chicken fried ribeye. Gravy taste homemade from the grease instead of a mix. Very delicious. Special tonight $18. We had such a great time at this place. My husband & I ventured out to find a nice brunch spot. Beautiful drive from Athens, TX. Fun spot with patio. Definitely one of the best brunches I've had in a WHILE! And it even beats out some spots we've eaten at in Dallas. Great price, great food, great drinks, great staff, great atmosphere. I have NO complaints. We even took a pizza to go for dinner...exceptional! We will definitely be visiting again. read more

The food and service is good, but the music is way too loud and awful. We, and several other patrons moved to a table outside when one guitarist/ singer cranked the music up to near deafening volume. One patron remarked that the singing sounded like a room full of cats being tortured. Lots of good things to say about this place! Small and quaint. Love the rustic decor. Some of the art on the walls is for sale. Patio seating available and they are pet friendly. This place was awesome. Totally worth the hour drive. Gonna make it a once a month thing. The atmosphere is cozy and charming along with a little biker flair. We went for brunch and started out with spectacular spicy bloody Mary's. I then had breakfast tacos and my hubby had eggs, sausage and breakfast potatoes. The Forge is probably a better restaurant than any in Tyler, and that's just downright incredible considering it's situated in Ben Wheeler, 30 minutes outside of Tyler halfway from Tyler to Canton. The food is consistently and reliably great, the ambience is so comfortable and rustic without being hokey or conjured. Simply put, don't drive past Ben Wheeler without stopping at the Forge, and actually make it a point to go out of your way to have a meal there, regularly. read more

This is a difficult review to write. The Forge has many of the things previous reviewers have described - an interesting menu (especially for East Texas); friendly service; casual, rustic decor; and good live music. HOWEVER, we won't be back, due to the fact that the dining room had dozens of flies in it. The staff didn't seem fazed at all when we moved to another table to try to get away from them. (Unfortunately, we were not successful.) We went ahead and ate there, but the more that we thought about it, the more we wished we had not. Is Ben Wheeler in the jurisdiction of a health department? This situation is too bad, because, otherwise, The Forge is just the kind of interesting, independent place that we like to see succeed. We hope they will address this problem, and we wish them the best of luck. read more

We have been here many times and enjoyed it but not tonight. It was Wednesday night and not real busy. We usually sit on the porch because the music is too load for us. Even though waitresses delivered food outside and saw us no one came to our table for 15 minutes. The waitress took our drink order and we waited again for drinks. Our salad which we had on previous occasions is called the Gorgonzola. Previously it had Gorgonzola cheese. This time it did not and we were told that the kitchen chef said he made it properly. After we finished the first salad and our main course was served another person came out with another salad with Gorgonzola and said"here is your salad made correctly". Wow-really? Fun, local place. Went on a wed. Night-open mic night and the music was good. The waitress was very friendly. I had a margarita which was just ok. For $7.00 I'll try something else next time- mostly sweet and sour. Tried a small pizza with 3 toppings. I only saw 2 and it was dry. Ordered chips and salsa and they were out of salsa. They did make some and it came at the end of the meal. It was very hot inside and flies everywhere. I know that's hard to control because it's really an inside-outside joint. A gem in the middle of nowhere; seriously on par with any city restaurant. The little town and of Ben Wheeler is adorable and The Forge was amazing! Super cute eclectic, log cabin style restaurant with outside wrap around porch that opens​ up into the restaurant. Lot of funky artwork around the walls, ceiling, etc. We ordered the Razor burger, a bacon burger, Razor pizza, and a meat lovers pizza. The burgers were FABULOUS! Fresh grass fed beef (no doubt) and the buns were soft and delicious. The razor burger and pizza have jalapenos​ poppers cut up on it. The meat lovers pizza though was like a ​slice of heaven!! perfect crust and fresh mozzarella. The server was perfect; attentive without being overbearing! read more

Wonderful bar/grill in Ben Wheeler!! Certainly "off the beaten track," but well worth the effort to find this gem!! The staff couldn't be more hospitable and the food was great!!! We had beers (excellent), shrimp stuffed mushrooms (awesome), bacon wrapped and cheese stuffed jalapeños (really, really good), and fried avocados (amazingly good)!! Sometimes when there's only one or two restaurants in town, it can either be spectacular or a complete dive. The Forge comes out on the spectacular side. They offer outdoor seating, local musicians, a varied bar with wine, beer, and mixed drinks and to top that all off, fantastic food that will fill both vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Tops on my list: portobello sandwich and the Gorgonzola salad with pears and walnuts. They also have a wide variety of pizzas (with a crust that can only be hand made-thin, delish and crispy), and salads.
