We were greeted by a friendly fellow named Travis who was our waiter for the meal. We came before noon, and though we could not order from the "mains" portion of the menu (only available at 4p), there were plenty of other options. My wife ordered a mixed drink from the bar and I ordered Weihenstephaner beer; both were delightful. We tried the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers (best we have had in years) and their fritters. They are a from scratch kitchen, so everything was fresh... and they try to make as much as they can in house, including the breads and sandwich buns. We each ordered soup, my wife got their bisque and I got a du jour squash soup. My wife got a crab cake sandwich and I got a smash burger. Her sandwich was delightful. The bacon onion jam was amazing, and the burgers were perfectly prepared on my smash burger... and the bun was something special. We capped the meal with a crème brûlée... closest I've had to my homemade version I've been making for three decades. They are under new ownership, and they are doing a fabulous job! For our 35th anniversary dinner, we decided to go back to where it all started. Chris Shaak and I had our rehearsal dinner at The Franklin House in 1991. Steve Mckenzie was the chef back then for our meal. Tonight..:Amazing dining experience The Franklin House Tavern 1746. Our server Travis was a delight and we made some friends in the tavern while having some of the best food I've had in a long time! The 3 oz Japanese Waygu was absolutely mouth watering. And perfect size for me. The hand cut fries were not only excellent, the portion was huge and they are coming home mostly. The AAA Saku Block tuna tartare with house made Kimchi was brilliant. We met the new owner and chef, Daniel LeBoon who knows all of the foodies out there. (He did Anthony Bourdain's tribute dinner but I'll let him tell you about it) such an amazing meal and we will absolutely be back!!! read more

The cocktails were delicious- well crafted and our favorite parts of what was ordered. The BLT was OK, bacon was overly cooked so it crumbled and the toasted sourdough was rough on the palate but the overall taste was fine. The Caesar salad is presented in a unique way and is very much an assemble-yourself set-up, with very little Caesar dressing that is swiped on the plate for more of a visual presentation rather than dressing for the salad. If so visit again, I'll try other things from the menu. read more

It was 1746, and with hammer in hand and hope in heart, he laid the foundation for what would become the Franklin House Taverna beacon of rest, revelry, and resilience. The village he founded, Heidelberg, soon pulsed with life, and at its center stood the tavern, originally named the "King George." Teamsters, drovers, and freighters found solace within its sturdy walls, warmed by hearty meals and Schaeffer's own spirits, distilled from the bounty of his farm. The tavern was more than a pit stop-it was the soul of the settlement, shaping the identity of what would come to be known as Schaffer's Town.
