I'll start by saying the deck area is really nice, and I enjoyed the space there. My coworker and I sat out at the deck bar and got there right as happy hour was wrapping up. The bartender was friendly and managed to get us drinks just under the wire for happy hour prices - which were really good. Overall, the food itself was alright. I ordered tacos that had cotija cheese on them. I'm a huge fan of cheeses, but the amount really overpowered any other flavor in the taco. The cheesesteak eggrolls were okay, but maybe a little overfried. The last thing was that one of the screens was stuck on the TV guide showing that the World Cup was on, but not showing the actual game. My coworker asked for it to be put on the actual game, which required a few people to figure out the right remote (I've never seen so many remotes come out of a drawer!) and the last person to help seemed really frustrated by the request. All in told, I may come back for drinks and an appetizer, but wouldn't be my pick for dinner. read more

Another good lunch at T.J. Rockwell's. I had the soup/salad combo which was tasty. My husband had the French onion smash burger -one of the specials of the month. We had a late lunch around 2:30 so the restaurant was quiet. Our only small issue was that our waitress was probably not busy so she didn't check in on us...until my water glass had been empty for 15 minutes. We also had to find someone to give us our check. What a cool restaurant - only wish we sat in igloos but didn't need to eat outside this time. Visited this restaurant while visiting my parents in PA- and enjoyed our lunch. Bacon ranch fries were perfectly crisp and flavored- probably our favorite part of lunch. Crab cake sandwich was delish with fresh tomato and lettuce. Our waitress and staff were very attentive and friendly. The ambience of the place was nice and comfortable - especially for being our first stop after flying cross country. My wife and I came here for a child-free date night and were really looking forward to it because we've always enjoyed TJ Rockwell's. Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. After being seated by the host, we sat at our table for over 30 minutes without being greeted by a server, offered drinks, or even acknowledged. Multiple staff members walked past our table during that time, but no one stopped to check on us. I eventually let a waitress know that we had been sitting there for half an hour, but nothing changed. At that point, we decided to leave. We drove to The River House Bar & Grill, a few miles down, where we were greeted immediately, our drink order was taken right away, and our drinks arrived within minutes. I understand that restaurants can get busy, but being completely ignored for over 30 minutes after being seated is unacceptable. We used to love coming here, which makes this experience even more disappointing. And please, don't respond with a generic apology. An apology doesn't fix a lack of attention to customers. Take a hard look at what went wrong and do better. If guests can sit for over 30 minutes without a single staff member taking responsibility for their table, you'll continue to lose business to places that value their customers' time. read more

We hadn't been there in many many years and decided to try it again. We started with the nachos with beef. They are were pretty good but were a bit light on the cheese and heavy on the lettuce. The place looked very clean and the dining room was nice and the booths were very roomy. Our server was outstanding and was on top of things. We shared the barbecue for two. It had two really odd looking chicken breasts, a full rack of ribs, fries and an order of wings. It was $39.99 and was plenty to eat with lots of leftovers. The ribs, wings and fries were tasty. The chicken breasts were thin curled up and had a weird consistency to them. The barbecue sauce was also pretty good. I'd say overall it was pretty good, just not outstanding. I could not tell if it was fish or a napkin and the fries were greasy with bagged bacon bits. $28 plus tip later I was glad to wash my hands of grease and leave. I love the outdoor dining here. The deck is so relaxing and beautiful. When the weather changes, indoor dining is nice, too. Serving sizes are bountiful and nicely plated. I had the steak & tortellini Alfredo. It was very rich & tasty. The watermelon Margarita was delicious. My friend had the smash burger which was quite large & piled high with fried onion staws. She said it was very good. We also had the soft pretzel sticks appetizer that had the perfect amount of salt & was cooked to perfection. The outdoor bartender is by far the worst I've ever encountered. She'd rather gossip than actually pay attention to customers, or at least my group. It took her 15 minutes to take our food order. We almost left. Refills? LOL. I was ready to throw my empty glass at her to get a refill. I've been here many times. Might be last time. Really? QVC on the bar tv? You have a nice selection of alcoholic beverages as well as a wide range of food choices so far there's nothing that I've had here that I haven't liked. I usually come to this place when I'm in the area. I can also count on them for good service and food. Today was no different. I had a salad while my coworker had a sandwich. The salad was topped with chicken and I'm glad there were not stingy with it!! We both had the crab soup too and thought it was just ok. Needed more meat in it. It was a chilly Sunday morning and our first visit. We were led to a booth inside, and first impressions were excellent in terms of the ambiance, decor and service. The food, on the other hand was okay, but not 5-star unbelievable. I had the lobster bisque and a strawberry chicken salad and my wife ordered some fish tacos. To their credit the portions were massive, but in this era of gastro-pubs on every corner, the food just seemed okay. That being said, we're likely to return when the weather is nicer. It's definitely a cute restaurant and its large patio is serviced by its own kitchen! The addition of drinks and fresh air might make all the difference. read more

It got worse as we sat and we were very uncomfortable. The rest of the tables in the area were filled. The nachos were rubbery and soggy not like anything that we had before. Had dinner there last night with my wife and friends. I ordered pierogies with sausage and sauerkraut kraut. The pierogies were deep fried to a crisp. The sausage was burnt to a crisp. I showed it to the waitress and she asked if I wanted it redone. I said no since I didn't want to eat a half hour after everybody else ate their meal. (This has happened to my wife and I before here). I asked for a manager to come to the table. He came and said the sausage was cooked like it should be. I guess his wife burns his dinner each night I know it's not fine dining at Rockwells but if you're spending money on a meal you expect it to be at least decent. I know that it will be a long time before we return there. Tell your managers that they need to be customer supporters when there is an issue instead of being argumentative with their most important asset, their customers. read more

I already had quite a day - I left the house at 5 am, drove 100 miles in the pouring rain and then jumped on a plane and made it to Harrisburg by noon. Instead of greeting my SIL with a big "hello", I greeted her with "feed me". I trust her judgement in restaurants - she knows all of the little places in the area. Upon entering, we were immediately seated and given a literally a handful of menus. There was the regular one, the lunch menu, the special St Paddy's Day menu and a beer menu. I think there may have been 1 more but it escapes me. It didn't matter though, there was a mixup with our server and we waited quite awhile to even be greeted. Once she realized that we were her table, our waitress apologized profusely. Things happen. The rest of our service was wonderful. It seemed that the main difference between the regular and the lunch menus was the addition of combos. We both ordered from the lunch menu. I opted for the Montreal burger sliders with French onion soup and my SIL ordered the BLT and tomato soup. Our food came quickly. My meal consisted of two sliders, potato chips and the crock of soup. The burgers weee topped with cheddar and sautéed mushrooms. Shredded lettuce, a thin slice of dill pickle and a very anemic tomato slice. The burgers were dry. They were desperately screaming for some type of condiment. I ate both but they weee just meh. The French onion soup was full of onions and croutons and topped with the require melted cheese. It was good - not fantastic but good. My SIL didn't appear to be overly thrilled with her meal either. Her sandwich was served on thick cut bread. The ratio of filling to bread looked off. Her crock of tomato soup came topped with the same melty cheese as the French onion. Later, when asked how her lunch was, she responded "ok". Even though lunch wasn't great, I'd be willing to come back. The menu was interesting and the food that the other diners had looked good. We purchased their Christmas dinner this year for an easier option for our family. I highly recommend it! I called and ordered their Christmas dinner- size small (serves 4-6 people); and it consisted of beef brisket, ham, Dutch stuffing, mashed potatoes, baked corn & green bean casserole. With all that food, I wasn't sure how many trips I'd need to make to the car with the containers. To my surprise- one! This was well thought out & planned! It was all contained in one large box with a flyer on the top, and all 6 oven-ready, disposable containers inside; all stickered with what was inside! Another flyer was inside the box with heating instructions. The food was delicious, and clean up was a breeze! There was an option for dessert, but hello- Christmas cookies! lol. My friend and I ate here, in Elizabethtown, last evening. I had the crispy chicken salad and my friend had the smash burger. My friend sent her smash burger back; it was burnt. She ordered the whiskey burger, which was dry. She kept it but didn't finish it. My salad; well, you could've set sail with the size of the lettuce leaves and the chicken was soft, like tofu, definitely not crispy! The honey mustard dressing, on the side, didn't have flavor. I will not be patronizing this restaurant again. Very pricey for the quality of the food. read more

We recently decided to give Rockwell's another go after not visiting for several years to see if their food had improved any. This time we decided on takeout. When we got home we discovered they had forgotten the rhino side that was ordered - disappointing that they didn't pay attention to the details of the order. Each of us ordered burgers. All were undercooked and quite pink. (Note: ordering online does not let you specify how you want your burger cooked.) One person tossed most of their burger in the trash it was so undercooked. Food tasted average at best. We will not be getting food from Rockwell's ever again! read more

I'm sorry to say I had a very disappointing dining experience at TJ Rockwells last night. From the moment my party was seated, it was clear the service was lacking. Our server did not greet us. We sat for nearly 10 minutes before the server finally came by to take our drink order. Even then, she seemed rushed and impatient. The poor service continued throughout our meal. Drinks were slow to arrive. Someone else delivered the meal and informed us our server would right over to check on us. Getting a refill or flagging down our server for any reason was nearly impossible, as she was rarely on the floor. We were able to finish our entire meal before she walked by - about 30 minutes after our food arrived. I dine out frequently and I have never experienced such inattentive, slow service at TJ Rockwells. There was no attempt by the staff to apologize or make things right when issues were brought up. I'm very disappointed, I've dined here before with good food and service but last night fell way short my experience. Unless major service improvements are made, I would not recommend dining there. read more

Our food was amazing, no, make that AMAZING!!!! Our waitress was friendly and very helpful. My husband had the crab cake sandwich and he said it was best he ever had. I had the fish tacos (Mahi) and they were excellent too. The ambience was good too; the place was well kept inside and out and the decor didn't look as though it had been placed haphazardly. Our party got an order of bbq for two (full rack of ribs, dozen hot wings, two chicken breasts bbq and grilled, and fries) and another order of ribs to share. First, our drinks came like 10 minutes after ordering which is a poor sign. Our food came after 35 minutes and everything was lukewarm at best. I mean, if you're going to bring out our food slow, at least have it warm!! The food was good, and could have been better if it wasn't sitting for 15 plus minutes prior to being served.
