    Fresh oysters

Made a RSVP for oysters before our dinner reservation and in hindsight we wish we stayed here for dinner instead! ---oysters: so fresh and they have happy hour oysters that were yummy! ---fish tacos: took a little time to come out but these were yummy! The hubby even enjoyed them even though he doesn't like corn tortillas If were back in town, we will have to come back and try their other dishes

I came here with my friend for happy hour oysters on a Sunday afternoon. Their HH oysters are $2 a piece and quality was decent. My only complaint (as well as my friend's) is that when they shucked the oysters, they didn't remove the bottom attachment of oyster itself. We also got the fries as they were highly recommended to me. Decent fries with dipping sauce! Definitely a nice spot and would be interested in trying their other menu selections in the future.

I love coming to The Franklin. A nice small space with attentive service. I regularly get the raw oysters. They have a $2 shuck happy hour from 4p-6p. Hot food is great, pricey for portions but commiserate with all the other "bougie" Portsmouth restaurants. Pictured in this review is the steak and the broccoli app. Very tasty very good. We also got the dessert special which was a peach pound cake and that was perfect.

This spot is a must try when in Portsmouth. The staff is incredible, everyone I had an interaction with was welcoming and friendly. Waters were being filled up without asking by time you got to a half glass. Everyone was on point. Drinks- Tamarind Margarita was good but then I got a spicy margarita that hit the spot, made with homemade Ghost pepper tincture, just right. Zack was a great. The food was amazing. I've added pictures for an idea but it was very tasty. I had the Flat Iron steak with Purple potato Puree, fresh mushrooms sourced locally, broccoli, carrots. My buddy had the Chicken and waffles and they may have been the best chicken and waffles I've tried. The Franklin Fries were sooo good. If you don't stop by, you're missing out!

Came in just for the Oysters. I'm from Texas so couldn't help myself. Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend for the delicious Oysters

Wandering through Portsmouth and noticed the mellow and tasteful vibes of the Franklin, we stopped in for some "shuckers dozen" locally sourced oysters (fantastic) and their famous "Franklin Fries". These were incredible and makes sense why they caveat with "while supplies last" as I'd imagine they sell out quick- for good reason! Their restaurant week menu looked amazing- will definitely return (with an appetite beyond appetizers)!

Excellent service and quality food! Reservation is a must. You can make reservations through their website https://franklinrestaurant.com. They do $1.25 oysters everyday from 4-6pm. I originally heard about this place from friends who said this place has amazing fries. I was skeptical at first. What could be so special about fries? Since I was going there for their oyster happy hour anyways, I decided to try it out and wow, I was impressed! The Franklin Fries were cut in thick long batons, crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. They tasted great on their own but even better with the two sauces that they came with: sriracha aioli and malt vinegar aioli. This is a must get when you come here! As for the oysters, they had 3 selections for happy hour: Pirates Cove, Pleasure Bay, Wellfleet (I'm sure these selections would change depending on when you go). We ordered 8 of each and we liked Wellfleet the best. Everything was shucked and cleaned pretty well. They even offer horseradish with the oysters. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience. I would definitely go back to try some of their other dishes.

Such a cute historical little restaurant. Definitely take advantage of their happy hour! 3 Rotating Oysters for $1.50 each, pair it with their $5 bubbly or featured cocktail. Always a good time and great selection at this place. My favorite oysters are the sunken meadow oysters from Eastham, MA!

Came in with the family for $2 oysters happy hour. Bar was filling up but the dining room was empty. Host was unfriendly. But the server saved the day with outstanding service. We had oysters and fries and went on for dinner at Row 34. The ambiance is bar, not family. Think date night or guys night out.

What time is the happy hour? Coming into town from Atlanta tomorrow and hoping to snag some delicious oysters.

    Wednesday-Sunday 4:00 - 6:00 pm

Hi, is this a kid friendly place? I have a 4 year old and I am struggling if I should bring her with us.

I am going to agree with Ralph. Can you? Sure you can bring her. Should you? She may get bored rather quick and hopefully she has a good palate.

A great selection of seafood apps, and a variety of meat options in the entree section (steak, chicken, lamb, short rib, duck) and a couple of vegetarian items. Something for everyone. It was a Tuesday night and pouring rain. We arrived without a reservation. It was very busy. The bar and restaurant were full. There were two side bar seats available which we happily took while we waited for a table. We had a delicious cosmo and a glass of prosecco while we waited. The server let us know our table was ready, and we did not need to settle our bar tab before going to the table. I love that! I find it inconvenient when restaurants ask people to do that. The server even took our sopping umbrellas and put them in the umbrella stand by the door for us. So nice! We tried 2 appetizers, the Caribbean Curry Mussels and the Seared Ahi Tuna. I can't decide which one I loved more. Both were fantastic. The broth the mussels were in was so flavorful, rich, salty, not spicy, coconut deliciousness. I wanted to eat it all like a soup. There was no bread served with the mussels to soak up the broth...which I would have loved, but not having it did save me some carbs. The seared tuna was absolute perfection. Very slightly seared and served with a well dressed seaweed salad and two sauces (coulis style ) a charred jalapeño aioli and a mango coulis. For dinner we shared the arugula salad with strawberries and goat cheese (although there was very little goat cheese) in a delicious poppy seed vinaigrette, and the miso Marinaded seared salmon with sticky rice and mango salsa. The salmon was fantastic...perfectly cooked, very flavorful, the sticky rice was so delicious and chewy, and the mango salsa added sweetness. I love that they split the salad into two dishes for us. I love when restaurants do this. It's a nice touch to acknowledge the server was listening the we intend to share, and to make it easier for us to do so. And we shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio. I will be back!

Fresh lobster with a great cheese combination. The crisp of the ritz crackers really brings the entire dish together. Good amount for the price. The food however is overpriced and just doesn't fit the bill. I was surprised to sit down and see a simple steak and potato dinner was $72. I ordered duck and my wife ordered pork belly. We chose seats at the comfortable-looking bar, which was a great spot to start the evening and soak in the warm, antique, historical vibe of the space -- lots of character without feeling stuffy. We built our own dinner from a mix of appetizers, and everything we tried was excellent. The local cheese plate featured a soft, brie-like cheese that was rich and delicious. We also ordered the mussels, which were a standout -- especially the mustard component. I wouldn't have expected mustard to pair so well with mussels, but it absolutely worked and added a surprising depth of flavor. There was also a chicken dumpling special that was comforting, well-seasoned, and very satisfying. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The service at the bar was fantastic. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful when offering advice on what to order, which made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. We sat at the bar and were handed menu's and our drink order taken. The bartender was friendly and pleasant. She clearly knew the other occupants of the bar as they discussed their families, co-workers and local news. She wasn't quite as verbose with us, but why would she? We had more than enough time to make our selections, and even though we weren't in a hurry, it did feel like a long time. Still, the longer we stay, the more we drink. Right? So that works for tips. ;D She did eventually come over to take our food order between chatting, refilling drinks, welcoming more locals and taking care of bar set-up duties. So she was busy. This is a bar more than a restaurant, and the food was good. There seems to be one person on the bar and one in the kitchen. At least at lunch time. Our food came out at the same time, was warm and well prepared. The bartender put things we may need on the bar top near us: ketchup, forks, etc. and left us to it. She did check on refills during our visit. There is a small restroom opposite the bar that was clean. The ambiance here is neighborhood bar where you come to drink and spend time with your neighbors. Friendly. Not really a 'family' atmosphere. Especially with some of the language. Just FYI. It's a fair sized space and I suspect would be busy on a weekend evening. Definitely a lively spot.

The menu is about the size you would expect from a small kitchen - a fair number of appetizer dishes meant for sharing, and a handful of entrees, ranging from casual to a bit more refined. The grilled cheese and tomato soup ($19) was made with a hearty artisan bread that hit the spot on a chilly evening. Similarly, the coq au vin ($26) was classic comfort food, with perfectly cooked smashed fingerling potatoes surrounded by a rich, decadent reduction sauce smothering meaty mushrooms and soft pearl onions. I came in around 4:30-5pm and it wasn't busy which was nice so I sat at the bar and ordered a IPA while I waited for my to go order. I was really craving a wedge salad and THANK GOD I ordered that because omg ! DELICIOUS ! The Wedge Salad I ordered came with blue cheese dressing but I also asked for the Lemon Oregano Vinaigrette. If you get this salad and you want a nice kick ask for jalapeños ! BOMB! The Signature Burger was pretty good I will say I did ask them to add jalapeños to that order as well which gave it a awesome kick as well but I will say the bun was a little hard so each bite was a bit tough. That wasn't a horrible thing but it made the burger less appealing. None the less that doesn't defeat the FLAVOR because it was good ! The only thing I would've changed was the side.. the sweet potato fries although great normally turned out to be very soggy by the time I walked back to my hotel. Next time I would try a different side. They also forgot to add ketchup for my fries in my to go order although that's my fault for not asking before I left. All in all this place was DELICIOUS I will 100% be back to try more on the menu!
