Cute little seafood shack. It's very confusing to find where to sit. There is upstairs seating which is a separate hostess. There is a downstairs restaurant which has a hostess, then a bar area and then a takeout area. The service wasn't great. It was slow and we never got drink refills. The fries were good and the lobster roll was decent. I would probably try a different restaurant next time.

A beautiful sunny fall day so we decided to go for a drive and have a seafood dinner. We have been a Petey's before because of their fresh and good quality seafood. Service had been just ok before but this time we were lucky to get Kathy as a server and that made the experience even better. She was super attentive and friendly despite a busy restaurant but she took the time to personalize our visit and to make suggestions. Steamers were great! For my main course I ordered broiled haddock and sea scallops with rice pilaf and coleslaw. Food is served in paper plates and drinks out of plastic cups but you get real silverware. I liked my dinner choice and portion size was good. They have parking on site but can be challenging since they are very busy but if you wait long enough you are likely to get a spot.

Peteys had a fun vibe to the experience and the setting is absolutely gorgeous! I appreciated the dining in the rough outside and taking in the nearby ocean air. The food was solid. I had the fried clam and scallop plate which had sizeable portions and the tarter sauce was incredible. My group raved about the coleslaw and that also held up. There were a few downsides. The chowder was a hearty portion but personally I felt it lacked a bit of flavor. The takeout window also screwed up our order and overcharged us - this was quickly corrected. They did mispackage some of the food with the table next to us - again corrected, but probably could've been avoided with a bit more intention. The parking is also difficult. Obviously it is a popular spot but the lot overflows onto the roadway which is a bit dangerous to walk alongside, especially as the sun begins to set. Overall I would definitely be back. The menu has seemingly limitless options and I hope to try some others next summer.

We ate at the picnic tables where you order from the take-out counter then listen out for your name and/or number. I ordered the lobster bisque and fish and chips. Fish and chips were good but nothing to write home about. The fish were small pieces which I prefer to places that do big fillets, fries were crunchy, and the cole slaw is one of the best I've had in NE. Lobster bisque was okay, I only got it because I felt for something with lobster. Also had some of my husband's clam strips, these were really good, I'd order again. Fresh seafood. Service was decent and they take card.

Great spot that has good food and service. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a variety. Best thing for us were the steamer clams. Lobster Roll was just okay and there are better options in Rye.

OH. MY. GAWD!! I've finally found the best seafood EVER!! Best fresh lobster!! Great service! Reasonable prices! Fun atmosphere! We will definitely be coming back here on the regular! I've traveled across this country coast to coast and THIS was thE best lobster I have ever eaten! A must have! Right off the coast!! Cute, sea decor and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this restaurant.

I love this restaurant! The clams and scallops are always so fresh and perfectly cooked! The seafood chowder is 10/10! My daughter enjoyed a delicious root beer. We love the view from the deck! You will too! Check it out next time you're at Rye Beach!

Been here quite a few times over the years and Petey's never disappoints. On a recent visit, our waitress quickly notified us that we needed to get our orders in quickly as it was about 45 min from closing time and she made sure we all got the lobsters we wanted. Sides are generous and tasty and we all left very satisfied. Always fun to bring folks here, and our recent visit was no exception - relatives from Oklahoma were wowed by the lobsters!

Pretty good! Great waiter, upstairs was a nice view. We walked from our rental. Loved the fish sandwich. Salad and Cole slaw were fine. Scallops were yummy, fair portion. Potato nice. Water was ick, would love to see it filtered.

Yum! I had the full bellies and oyster fried combo. It was really good! Still not as good as Bigelow's clams in Rockville Center, NY, but dang good! We opted to go to the take-out window and eat outside by the canal. It was really nice and the flowers were beautiful. Sitting out there you can really smell the salty ocean air, and it was glorious! My only "complaint" if you could even call it that is that I couldn't get ice for my "ice" water, which I thought was really weird. I bet if I'd gone into the restaurant and sat down I could've had ice for my water but whatever. That was so inconsequential considering how great everything else was. Even the restroom was sparkling clean and fresh smelling! 10/10 would go back here again.

I have been coming to Petey's for years, ever since discovering seafood chowder based on a recommendation. They have consistently provided good food, with varying levels of service. Tonight I was craving steamers and a nice sized lobster so decided to visit them. The steamers, as usual, were absolutely delicious. No sand and they were perfectly cooked for a succulent bite! I elected to get a larger 2-1/2 lb lobster. This did not disappoint. The cook kindly broke the large claws and the tail for me! Just another example of the great service I often receive when going here. The baked potato was cooked perfectly, soft and moist on the inside. The Cole slaw is by far the best available in the area. Although they have a bar and a porch area upstairs for those times you come right from the beach, I prefer the dining room where it's still okay to get messy while eating your meal. The pricing and the quality of the food has always been top notch and keeps me coming back!

I stopped by on a September Saturday around noon and there were loads of seats available upstairs at the bar. Service was nice and quick, and food came out in 15-20 min. I ordered the Caesar salad with shrimp, which was well dressed and seasoned, and the small fried whole belly clams, which were fine. It was a good meal, but not quite $50 lunch good (before tip). They have a small parking lot in front, but otherwise you'll need to scope out a spot on route 1A. But be wary of "no parking" areas!

The best seafood ever. The broiled scallops are amazing. The service is great, an adorable little place across the street from the water always a crowd, but worth the wait.

So I got the hot lobster roll and my boyfriend got the cold lobster roll (not pictured sadly). Personally, I prefer a warm buttery roll, but he loved his cold roll and said it was perfectly seasoned. You get a good amount of lobster and it's $30. The line... omg it was out the door and soooo long. But trust me. Stay! It's worth it. And they move super fast. The pricing overall was really good. We also got the lobster bisque which had chunks of lobster in it (I dipped my roll in it and it was magic). Only $10! And a good portion. But they have all sorts of things--Mac and cheese, shrimp cocktail, steamers... and next door you can get fresh seafood as well. This is seafood heaven. And again, I was content with the price for quality food. Now let me quickly talk about the view because that was awesome. We sat outside and watched the ocean because it's at Rye Harbor (as the name suggests). It's so relaxing. Especially on a beautiful day. Here's the one thing you may be iffy on. $10 to pay for parking for the day. 30 minutes free. If you think you can do it all in 30 minutes, go for it. But we didn't want to rush so we paid $10 for parking which is kind of eh. But I get it because the whale watch leaves from the harbor. A minor thing to know, but not something to deter you from coming. Though if you don't come... that's more lobster rolls for me!

The salmon bites were over saturated in sauce so much so that the panko was soggy, the pan seared scallops were decent but I found the bacon jam to be too sweet paired with the scallops. We could not flag down our waiter any of the times we needed her and every time we asked someone else for help they'd leave and not come back. When it started raining and we needed to move indoors she was gone for so long she was surprised when she returned and we had already had been helped inside by another staff member. We ended the meal when she said she'd come back with water only to disappear and we ended up asking another waitress for the check, and she redirected it back to our waitress, who finally came back with no water. The restaurant was by no means full so I'm not sure what the large gaps in service was, and at one point my friend noticed the waitresses chatting in the kitchen while we were craning our necks. I'd only come back to order the seafood chowder as the rest of the dishes weren't good enough to make up for this.

The staff (and it's always the same people that are there, which is cool in itself that there's no noticeable turnover in the staff) is friendly without being fake about it... efficient, pleasant, and clearly proud of what they're serving from fryers behind the soda fountains. Let's talk food, because wow. That's why you're reading this. The fried shrimp are so good that my wife (who does not like seafood) actively loves them. That alone should be printed on the menu. I've only known her to eat fried shrimp when the breading weighs more than the shrimp itself (which is not the case here). The tartar sauce is the best in North America. It's my crack. If I drank it through a straw (a bit too thick), that straw would be called a crack pipe. I literally smile writing about this tartar sauce. I will not be taking questions at this time. The "regular" fries are exactly what fries should be: crisp, fluffy, salty perfection. And the onion rings? Peak "fried seafood place" onion rings... golden, crunchy, and unapologetically doing their job, not tempura style, but old school Weathervane "fried seafood style" onion rings that you can sub in instead of fries on plates/boats for a small upcharge. Even the bathrooms are clean, which sounds like a throwaway detail until you realize how rare that is and how much it says about the place. We love it so much that we'll happily drive 40 minutes each way to eat there - in winter - because that's what you do when a place never lets you down. And despite the sign saying Al's Seafood, we tell everyone it's called "Big Al's Seafood" Not because that's the name, but because that's the energy this place has... It's not trendy. It's not trying to reinvent anything. It's just awesome, every single time and honestly, that's harder to pull off than any gimmick. Signing off... keep it up, Big Al.

They serve various size of lobsters as well as cook them for you. However they do not provide place to eat or utensils so they function more as a market than a restaurant. They have sort of a parking lot where you can park. There are few works on the back hanging around and 2 younger staff that take care of orders. Lobster has quite few size options and some explanations for terms they use. We weren't sure what to get but figure we wanted larger size lobsters. SLX which is the largest ones were $14 per pound. They can also let you pick them live as well but we chose 2 lb ones. They charge $1.5 to boil but it's a-lot of work to boil properly so it's worth it. We waited about 20-25minutes or so and they also chilled it so that we can take it home to eat. Luckily we had ice box with some ice packs so it kept the lobster fresh until getting home. Once we got home we opened the bag to eat the lobster. It's a huge lobster with large claws. We got a large bowl and separate plate to eat. It was a massive task to crack the claws as one of the claw was huge and very tough. We ended up using a hammer and dull knife to crack them open. The meat was tender and sweet. One of the best maine lobster we had. Overall the place provides fresh maine lobster for good price. Only issue is that they don't serve it so you will need to plan to take it home and have tools to crack them open. They also only take cash. If i were to come back i would give them a call a head of time to have the lobster prepared to go and pick them up which seems to be what other people were doing.
