I've eaten here three times and have always been pleased The Cuban sandwich is really good. The pork is marinated some kind of special way and tastes very tender. The bread is super fresh. I liked it. I had wings on two visits. They were big, with tasty sauce. They weren't very spicy but if you ask I'd imagine they could kick them up a bit. The french fries are good. And they have a breakfast menu. It's a family owned business that you sorta have to search for behind Castleton Mall. Look for the Costco, then look across 86th Street. It's near the laser tag place. Good service. I haven't been in the evenings beyond dinner hour but I imagine it's popular - there are pool tables, a lively jukebox, and a place for a small stage. We were looking to try a local spot while in the area and happened upon this spot. It looked interesting enough so we tried it out. Really nice spot!! There was a small raised corner stage and dance floor, bar, two eating areas and an upper level with two pool tables. Drink specials run daily not just during a happy hour which is nice. There was a QR code on the table that directed you to the menu. That's all fine and good if you have a phone or if "I" have had a useable signal. They will provide you with a hard copy menu if you request it. They have a decent size selection, not overwhelming at all. Two in my party got steaks n' eggs with hashbrowns (breakfast is served all day), another got wings and sweet potato fries, and I got a grilled cheese and beer battered fries. We all enjoyed our meals. It's advertised that this is a place to drink but they do not have a separate drink menu. Beers and wine are listed. I asked for a martini and the bartender/server didn't really know what to do with that. She said they didn't really do many mixed drinks... I guess it's an Indiana thing... idk. it pains me to post another review, and so quick to my last but wanted to share a message I received from a fellow patron of this establishment, only to give everyone an opportunity to try and understand the importance of being mindful of what conversations are had while at work. as co-workers of mine were enjoying lunch today, they overheard the bartender complaining with a patron at the bar about how they couldn't take a shot with them because of how "crazy Yelp reviewers are" and that they "ruin everything" -- I have frequented this establishment for going on 4 years now and this is disheartening (was just there earlier today having a good heart to heart with my brother) they are called growing pains for a reason and it's better to lean into the lesson to be learned so these things don't continue to happen. it only takes one wrong turn and one sour apple. read more

Top of the stairs to the back you have pool tables: my friend Brian and I were in town for work and decided to try out the bars close to our hotel room. This place didn't disappoint. Perfect for hanging out and spaced out quite nice. They also have another section as you walk in with dart boards with an tunes box you can play the music you want to listen to. They did a good job adding some padding to the ceiling trying to have the noice not bounce in the bar: might need to add a couple more because it gets loud. lol when they crank the music. Now right outside there is a patio. Where you can sit abs have cocktails with your friends. So all in all a good bar to go sit have bar food and have some fun. I drove to Castleton for the Yelp Elite Week, but Benyue is closed on Wednesdays. Bad me for not checking first, so I'll be back tomorrow for that. The Free Spirit is located on the back side of Castleton Square Mall across the street from Costco on East 86th Street. It is much larger than it looks from the outside. The inside is extremely spacious, with many 6-top high tables, and there are a few 4-top regular height tables. As you enter through the front door, a large stage area is to the right. Live music is played on Saturday evenings starting at 9:00 p.m. Flat screen T.V.s are everywhere, and this is a great place to watch sporting events. The three pool tables are located on the 2nd floor with 8 steps leading to the tables. Two darts boards can be found across from the bar with a Touch Tunes jukebox, 3 pull tabs machines, plus an ATM located close to the juke box. On the third floor is a VIP area to rent for special occasions or even football games. If you enjoy sitting outside, pick a table outside on the deck. The deck is inviting and room for many. I sat at the large bar today, with excellent service from Bethany, and my food arrived hot and super fast. Bethany was friendly and made a great cocktail. The bar was very clean and laid out well. I started with the 8 piece Fried Pork Dumplings with chili sauce ($8). The pork was plentiful in the dumplings with a touch of crispy on the edges. As my entree, I ordered the 6 Wings with Sweet Chili Sauce ($9). The wings can be ordered with dry rub, classic, or signature sauces. The sweet chili sauce was great, and the wings were a nice size and meaty for wings. I will return to The Free Spirit when I'm back in the area. My husband loves a cozy bar with good music, a nice selection of draft beers and bourbon, and, of course, good food. I'll have to bring him here when we're out and about on the Eastside. Michelle has always been a sweetheart, anytime we see her she is attentive and kind. Dustin the GM always makes sure to say hello and ask us how we are doing. Josh pours a mean whiskey diet. Craig is an OG, he is just awesome. We have rented the VIP room many a times and ALWAYS have a blast. The wings are killer, grilled cheese is a sleeper and SO good. If they bring back the lemon grilled chicken salad it's a MUST order. The vibe is dive bar, regulars who are here often, amazing bar staff that if you come by enough are almost like long distance friends and great food. Our team from my office has been going to Free Spirit for lunch for over 5 years. We typically go there for the burger lunch special - a excellent burger, french fries and a coke for only $7.99 + tax. In the past the food was typically good, but the wait times for food were frequently unpredictable. Sometimes we would get in an out for lunch in under an hour, but more often than not it would take much longer. Because of the unpredictability of the wait times, we could not eat there as often as we would like and would have ranked it 2-3 stars because of the service issues. However, on our recent visits to were surprised that our server is now equiped with an electronic handheld device to place the orders. This has greatly improved the wait time for our food and we can predictable get in and out for lunch in about 50 mins. The kitchen also seems to be managing orders better and we can now gratefully include Free Spriit in our weekly lunch spot rotation. Bravo Free Spirit! Hidden little gem in Indy! Located right across from Costco, it can be easy to miss this place if you are not looking! Look for the Asia mart sign, and located right behind what is now Ziebart. Have had a number of this appetizers including their delicious fries but keep coming back for their wings. They are always crispy, saucy and have some great sauces or dry rubs. Their drinks are also strong and highly recommend their margaritas! Coming here on karaoke night is always a good time and entertaining to say the least. This is a pretty decent dive bar. A lot of locals/regulars, but they're not unfriendly to new folks. This is the new location (I never had a chance to visit the old place) so everything is clean and well - kept. Like any good dive, they have drink specials every day ($2 domestic drafts on Wednesdays). Service is pretty good. Food is hit-or-miss depending on what you order. The Monte Cristo was a sad rendition of one of my favorites. Their version was just a ham and turkey sandwich with some powdered sugar spelled on top and served with some generic jelly (in those little plastic foil-sealed takeout tubs). The wings were a different story. I will order those every time I come here in the future. They're nice and crispy as they are not doused in sauce. The Singapore sauce is their most popular flavor and I can see why. They're a little sweet with a nice zing. read more

The Free Spirit is tucked away just off 86st Street behind Castleton Square. There is adequate if not ample parking in the lot surrounding the establishment. The interior is cluttered with myriad signs, banners, neon displays, and numerous video screens distributed throughout. An electronic jukebox provides music at a comfortable volume. The lighting is very dim. For all that, the overall ambiance is quite welcoming and comfortable. There is seating for a little over 100 customers at a combination of stools at the bar and chairs at tables. Additionally there is some outdoor seating on a wooden deck wrapped around the southwest corner of the building. There are three pool tables on a landing above the main floor. Two dart machines and an ATM machine are located in the southeast corner. Live music is provided on Friday and Saturday nights. When I dropped in for a late lunch on a recent Friday afternoon there were about a half dozen customers in place with one person working the kitchen and one person, Brooke, working the front of house. Brooke was an absolute delight. She took orders, made and served drinks, delivered food from the kitchen, and through it all kept up a friendly running banter with her customers at the bar, handling it all wonderfully. The Free Spirit has a full bar and a comprehensive food menu offering a variety of starters and small plates, salads, sandwiches and wraps, burgers, wings, pizzas, and more. There is a separate generous breakfast menu available all day every day. There are also daily specials offered every day. The food and drinks are all very affordably priced. I had a serving of Hand-Breaded Mushrooms and an Eiffel Tower Burger served with beer battered french fries. It was all delicious. My wife and I decided to get some bar food on a Friday evening. They had a good number of customers but it wasn't crowded. There seed to be only 1 server but we didn't have to wait. She was very efficient and, what seemed to be the manager, was helping her. We decided to try the bone-in chicken wings (garlic parm) and beef nachos. The wings were meaty and cooked right. I had never been here, and it exceeded my expectations for sure. I ordered a drink and side of fries. The others with me ordered wings. They had pool tables, dart boards, stage for music, outdoor seating and lots of tvs. The bar tender wasn't the most welcoming, but she got to us in a reasonable time for order.
