This is not fine dining by any stretch, but our food was fantastic, hence the 4 star rating. Stand in line, pay, go find a seat--no table service here. Tartar and cocktail sauces are premade and come in the plastic tubs you see at Long John Silver's and the like. There is no wine; your mom will hate it. If you want to get another beverage, too bad: there is no express lane for drinks and you will stand in line with everyone else placing their orders and asking if they have grilled shrimp (it's "The Fry House", honey) and acting surprised when their debit card doesn't work. True story: When we were ready for another round, I sized up the line and made a note of the last person in it. I then took the elevator up twenty floors to my room, got our beverages, and returned. Dude was still six people from the front. You would think that a place dedicated to separating you from your money would find a better way, but not yet. Anyway, I'm available for consulting, Delaware North!

There is plenty of parking in a lot across the street. We went inside and found it to be pretty busy, but we got a table for 4 quickly. The place was clean and homey-feeling and I loved the fact that they used disposable plates, utensils and napkins! It is probably way easier on the crew to clean up, and it adds to the relaxed atmosphere. I had the corn nuggets to start, yum! We finished them easily, they were so good. Then the entree of my chicken tenders, beans, and Mac and cheese came out, along with my sweet tea. The sweet tea was perfect, I drank a whole one during my meal and they gave me another to go in the souvenir Gus's cup. The food was just great, chicken was juicy and perfectly crunchy on the outside. Beans and Mac and cheese, delicious! I ate all of it even though I was stuffed. I even went so far as to order a piece of pecan pie for dessert, but unfortunately our server came back out to tell us they were out of it! Guess it wasn't meant to be (this time)! Our server was really friendly during our whole meal, chatted with us a little and made sure we had a great experience! Bottom line.... Go to Gus's!

They have been just off the main interstate there for over 9yrs now. Appetizer: Fried Crawfish tails Main: Catfish & Shrimp combo platter Sides: Hush puppies, boiled & fried corn on the cob, fries, slaw. Dessert: No chance! Was too stuffed! This is a cajun joint so expect that sorta taste. Fish was good. Fried shrimp may have been the best I've ever had away from the coast. Fries are the perfect fry for a fish & shrimp combo platter. Hush puppies & slaw are a huge miss, but those crawfish tails & their dipping sauce stole the show. All of their dipping sauces were absolutely great. Boiled corn on the cob was better than fried, but they were both outstanding. Great stop on your way to Memphis or leaving from Memphis going northwest. Service was decent. Prob would have been more excited to see us if we didn't come 45 min before closing, but thats on us. It's got an old Backyard Burger vibe but w/TVs everywhere & servers. Got a good size outdoor patio for thats nice evenings w/no mosquitoes & less than 85 degree heat. The owner of this place also has another local restaurant just across the parking lot called Venue. I will be trying that out on my next trip thru there.

We really enjoyed the catfish basket for lunch which included 4 good-sized cornmeal-crusted filets that were perfectly fried and were moist and decently seasoned. The coleslaw was a classic mayo-based version that complemented the rest of the basket. The tartar sauce was good as well, and the fries were crispy. The basket also came with a Hawaiian roll and a single hush puppy that was tasty. The fried shrimp was plump and also nicely fried and juicy, and the accompanying cocktail sauce was decent as well. The original Coke with pellet ice in the classic red cup was very refreshing on a hot day. Definitely recommend trying it out!

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

I can not believe I have not reviewed Soul Fish as of yet. I am a huge fan…read more Let me preface this review by saying ... My grandfather owned two successful catfish restaurants. As a child I grew up on fried fish filets and hush puppies until my grandfather had to retire and sell his restaurant due to his Health. He still cooks up a mess of catfish for us about two or three times a year when we visit. Yum! My standards for good catfish are extremely high. Good fried catfish is not greasy, light cornmeal batter, tender flaky inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. Sounds simple enough but the truth of the matter is... Good fried catfish takes skill. After an epic searched for any decent catfish in Memphis and surrounding areas that took a few years ... My family and I decided to give up. And when I heard about Soul Fish it took some considerable convincing to get them to go. We where, none of us, disappointed! Soul Fish is without a doubt the best Catfish in Memphis. It is perfectly fried... Hushpuppies are tasty, coleslaw edible if not always yummy, fried pickles crisp and tart, pickle green tomatoes so yummy I could swim in them, and vegetables always cooked and seasons well (special recognition to the cabbage, broccoli, and black eyed peas). The service is always friendly, fast, efficient, and correct. The blackened catfish is pretty tasty too ... Sometimes they get a little heavy handed on the seasoning. Deserts are pretty great as well. My sister loves the Mississippi mud chocolate thingy they have (I'm not a chocolate fan). I've introduced many people (about 40 or so) to Soul Fish - locals and visitors alike - and no one ... And I mean not a single one of them where disappointed. So why four stars instead of five? True... the catfish is the best in Memphis - however it is not the best I've ever had. And Sometimes a filet or two at Soul Fish fall short of perfection... However ... I'm a regular and a fan of Soul Fish Cafe. If you have spent hours and disappointed meals trying to find good catfish in Memphis ... Look no further ... This is the place for you. I promise you will not Be disappointed!

Memphis is a slight detour on our way back to Texas, but there was no way we were settling for fast food along the highway. We wanted good seafood--fresh, satisfying, and worth the stop. So glad we chose this spot. From the outside, it's simple and unassuming. Inside, it feels like a slightly bougie fish cafe--clean, cozy, and well-kept, with subtle holiday decor and that warm Southern hospitality greeting you at the door. Our server, Denise, was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. The one-page menu keeps it simple, and she walked us through it along with the daily special. We ordered the gumbo, salmon burger, and a grilled salmon plate--everything tasted fresh and cooked to order. A perfect seafood meal in Tennessee. We left full, happy, and already planning what to try next time. Definitely a spot worth revisiting.

No that would be soft serve was the answer. They do have real ice cream too. We were a bit slow on the uptake, and our sweet counter girl, Emily, who was in her 20s but looked 15, patiently explained the ice cream came in a cup and the milk shakes were soft serve only, because evidently their shake machine can't handle the hard real stuff. We caved, got soft serve. We wanted malts not ice cream sprinkled with malt. *sigh.* Bella, Michael and Kennedy looked on, in training with our youthful trainer, and Kennedy remarked, "You're living on the edge," It was her first day. The place also had other retro food, except for the seed oils, which meant shakes only for us.
