The food is always solid here. It is very consistent and always fresh. The service is good. You order your food then wait for your buzzer to ring. The location is clean and decorated with a fishing theme. I always order the salmon and you must add the garlic butter. The salad greens are always fresh. Excellent seafood spot.

We no idea ‍ Memphis had good fried fish like this. I was kind of sketchy since i always hear about the bbq. I was like what the heck. When I tell you that fried catfish was so good and season to perfection. Who would've known. You walk in and place your order and be seared with one of those alert when food is ready. What a good experience.

Since my husband wanted fish for lunch and hadn't been before, I decided to have lunch here. The ambiance is like a fishing bait n tackle shack in Louisiana.. The service is fairly quick, especially considering fried/grilled to order. The prices are reasonable and the food never disappoints. On this visit, I ordered the grilled catfish with red beans n rice n grilled veggies, my husband had the 4piece catfish plate.. They also have beer and frozen margaritas.

Nice size restaurant with plenty of seating. The food was great and still hot because we got our food to go. I ordered the shrimp and catfish, fries and hush puppies. Some others ordered grilled catfish, roasted vegetables and red beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their food. The service was great as well. Overall I give the Flying Fish 5 Stars.

I love the ambience, the music and the vibe. It definitely isn't a "hole in the wall" as it is a pretty decent sized restaurant, but it looks and feels like it could be. They had great music playing, the staff were great, and the food was pretty tasty as well. I ordered the "Nashville hot sandwich" with fried catfish. I'll be honest, I've never really eaten "catfish" until the South, and it has made me a fan. Especially this sandwich itself. There were some hush puppies that had rested on a bed of fries. It was my first time experiencing those and I liked them. They had a hue of sweetness to them. Another meal that was ordered was chicken tenders along with fries, which were pretty good too if you were not feeling very adventurous. Now I did not order the Expresso martini, but it was too cute not to post. I am personally not a fan of these drinks so I urge you to try it for yourself. This is a place I would frequent often, if I had the chance too.

I have been to Flying Fish in Bentonville, AR and had a great time but the experience in Memphis seemed more fun and memorable. Maybe it's because I was dining with someone who loves food adventures just as much as I do. I love they have the flying fish mounted on the walls that helps create a very casual and carefree ambience. I would not come here for an intimate date but for fun, casual dining experience with family or friends, a group, or with someone that loves Cajun comfort food. There's a cost of flow of people aka line worthy restaurant. We luckily arrived before the dinner rush, which meant we had a smaller line to wait. After we ordered food and the cashier gave us a buzzer from when the food is ready, but the wait was short. The employees were very helpful and generous in keeping customers happy with the condiments for everyone's meal and willingness to help a customer choose what to get off their menu. I had ordered and shared the following items and honestly, we could have purchased more but we were too happy with what we had ordered. Next time, we'll order more and perhaps try other options. - Cajun Platter( served with rice, fried gator, crawfish jambalaya, and 2 pairs of frog legs), Before tonight, my wife swore that she did not like frog legs due to her belief. it was too much work for the amount of meat on the bones. Now, she believes that frog legs are pretty yummy with the legs here being tender and fall off the bone delish. The fried gator was so tender and delicious, and we savored every bite. We did add hot sauce to our crawfish jambalaya because it enhanced the deliciousness and we try not to eat it too fast to avoid the disappointment of it being gone. - Additional items/ sides( coleslaw, hush puppies, and pickled green tomatoes We enjoyed each of our sides, but coleslaw was a little bland in our opinion. We needed to add salt and pepper to give it a little umph.

    Fried Oyster Poor Boy

Started walking downtown and the sign in the front caught my attention.l and I'm sooooo glad it did. There is a fast food chain who shall remain nameless that I was going to go to for some fish but after stopping here....THE LORT knew I needed to eat GOOD! I ordered a poor boy but after seeing another customer get the gumbo I had to jump on the GRAVY train...literally and figuratively! Because this gumbo was GUMBOOING! The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly! The rice was the perfect consistency and the roux gave a stew gravy taste but worked perfectly for me. I was suppose to take my food to go but I couldn't help but sit down as the blues music played in the background. Something about this atmosphere was EVERYTHING I didn't know I needed in the middle of my workday! THANK YOU FLYING FISH! Oh and let's. It forget the customer service because I THOUGHT I said oyster poor boy but the cashier rang me up for a catfish and they prepared the catfish but when I realized it wasn't an oysters sandwich he swapped that thang out and got my oyster sandwich made and walked it over to my table! I'm just saying. Oh and I could have eaten at an open window and enjoyed the sunny weather. Just saying.

My family visited Memphis and stayed in the downtown area. We were walking to a bbq spot when we stumbled upon this spot. Since we had someone in the group that does not eat meat, we decided to try this instead. Now looking around at the decor, I was skeptical. Some of the seating definitely needs updating. However, I watched one of the workers bring up some whole fried catfish and it looked great. I decided to get the filet fried catfish with fried shrimp. My daughter got the hamburger and my husband got the whole fried catfish. Let me tell you, I'm from Louisiana so I know good seafood, heck good food overall! This fish was seasoned and fried wonderfully! The fish had a slight cornmeal like texture which I love! Everything was made to order and was piping hot and fresh! My mom had the grilled tilapia which she enjoyed and lobster soup. My dad had the fish and gumbo, he didn't have any complaints. If I'm ever in the area I would definitely visit them again!

Nice people. Good food. Fries Could have been warmer. Key lime pie was just okay. I'd eat here again though.

Grilled Salmon "Snappy" with rice & beans and grilled crisp squash

You know when the music makes the food dance in your mouth? That's what's happening here. The atmosphere is casual counter service with the friendliest staff around. The Grilles Salmon made Snappy was Cajun-spicy and so flavorful and tender! The squash were crisp grilled and the beans & rice took me back to south Louisiana. I tried the Tropical Beer Hug IPA, which paired perfectly with my meal. Gotta come back here when I'm in town for work next month.

I ordered the fried combo basket nothing came with lettuce or cold slaw but yet it's on my tray I don't understand why would you place someone food on a dirty tray and it's visibly disgusting! Fish is still slimy needs to fried longer customer service wasn't the best the man ignored me while I placed my order I had to repeat my order 3x I'll never come back

Today I ordered through uber eats because DoorDash kept saying the restaurant was too busy to place my order. It's unfortunately more expensive ordering that way than it is in DoorDash. So I ended up paying fifteen dollars more. All in all the 15 dollars was well worth it. The food here is so good. I ordered the grilled red snapper with the beans and rice and the grilled vegetables. The red snapper also came with a sauce. I chose the chimichiri sauce (sp). It was so so good. The red snapper was grilled to perfection and everything on my plate complemented each other. Everyone who got food here was pleased. The fried catfish is delicious as well. Minus one I didn't get enough sauce and they forgot my drinks and the mishap with DoorDash. But all in all I can't wait to eat here again.

When in Memphis, eat like the Blues. We just came in off a Mississippi River Cruise and headed for the best Catfish Shack in town. We just ate our first Cajun Fish Shack Feast. Fried gator nuggets, frog legs, catfish, fried shrimp, shrimp kabobs and beans n rice. Yummy! If we're ever back, we're coming back!

I can not believe I have not reviewed Soul Fish as of yet. I am a huge fan…read more Let me preface this review by saying ... My grandfather owned two successful catfish restaurants. As a child I grew up on fried fish filets and hush puppies until my grandfather had to retire and sell his restaurant due to his Health. He still cooks up a mess of catfish for us about two or three times a year when we visit. Yum! My standards for good catfish are extremely high. Good fried catfish is not greasy, light cornmeal batter, tender flaky inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. Sounds simple enough but the truth of the matter is... Good fried catfish takes skill. After an epic searched for any decent catfish in Memphis and surrounding areas that took a few years ... My family and I decided to give up. And when I heard about Soul Fish it took some considerable convincing to get them to go. We where, none of us, disappointed! Soul Fish is without a doubt the best Catfish in Memphis. It is perfectly fried... Hushpuppies are tasty, coleslaw edible if not always yummy, fried pickles crisp and tart, pickle green tomatoes so yummy I could swim in them, and vegetables always cooked and seasons well (special recognition to the cabbage, broccoli, and black eyed peas). The service is always friendly, fast, efficient, and correct. The blackened catfish is pretty tasty too ... Sometimes they get a little heavy handed on the seasoning. Deserts are pretty great as well. My sister loves the Mississippi mud chocolate thingy they have (I'm not a chocolate fan). I've introduced many people (about 40 or so) to Soul Fish - locals and visitors alike - and no one ... And I mean not a single one of them where disappointed. So why four stars instead of five? True... the catfish is the best in Memphis - however it is not the best I've ever had. And Sometimes a filet or two at Soul Fish fall short of perfection... However ... I'm a regular and a fan of Soul Fish Cafe. If you have spent hours and disappointed meals trying to find good catfish in Memphis ... Look no further ... This is the place for you. I promise you will not Be disappointed!

Memphis is a slight detour on our way back to Texas, but there was no way we were settling for fast food along the highway. We wanted good seafood--fresh, satisfying, and worth the stop. So glad we chose this spot. From the outside, it's simple and unassuming. Inside, it feels like a slightly bougie fish cafe--clean, cozy, and well-kept, with subtle holiday decor and that warm Southern hospitality greeting you at the door. Our server, Denise, was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. The one-page menu keeps it simple, and she walked us through it along with the daily special. We ordered the gumbo, salmon burger, and a grilled salmon plate--everything tasted fresh and cooked to order. A perfect seafood meal in Tennessee. We left full, happy, and already planning what to try next time. Definitely a spot worth revisiting.

A prime location for a prime steakhouse. The service was strong as was the pacing. I found the server a bit too eager to explain the restaurant and the menu. I'm a ribeye eater so I had a pretty good idea I was getting a ribeye before I went in. I think the talking is used as a way to upsell and push guests towards opaquely priced off-menu "specials" which from my understanding are always on offer (such as their deviled eggs and bone marrow sauce). We started with the beef tartare and duck ravioli. I preferred the tartare, which had a nice spicy seasoning throughout. The duck ravioli had an excellent sauce on it, too. For our mains, I got the prime boneless ribeye ($68) and my brother got the prime strip ($56). We also shared the Yume A5 Wagyu experience ($225), letting us try three different cuts of Wagyu side by side. For sides (about $15/each), we did the fontina potatoes, truffle honey tots, and carrots. We also added the gulf prawns ($21), foie gras ($14), and bone marrow sauce (~$20) which was prepared table side and was plenty to share. It was very rich and peppery, though a bit of a salt bomb. For dessert, we shared the French toast bread pudding with maple butter ($14) which is one of my favorite bread puddings I've tried. They also brought my brother a dessert since it was his birthday, it was something like a raspberry mousse with coconut foam and a sharp raspberry sauce. Excellent. The Yume experience was a big motivation in coming here, as getting to try cuts of A5 Wagyu next to cuts of regular (albeit prime) beef is unique in the Memphis area and really for hours around. It was priced as an experience rather than a food item. It did not disappoint, nor did the prime steaks. The A5 is so unbelievably tender by comparison. My favorite was the ribeye, but I'm biased. My brother, normally a strip guy, agreed with me there. The potato sides were underwhelming, particularly for the price. I don't know how I let my brother talk me into buying him $15 tater tots for his birthday. I could get the carrots again, though. My total was $800 for the two of us for the above food, six cocktails, and tax and tip. A big chunk of that was the Yume experience as well as the drinks (we were celebrating!). If we were to go back, it would be closer to $350 for the two of us, and I would go for the prime ribeye with foie gras again, no need for Wagyu or sauce. I enjoy the sister restaurants in this restaurant group (Coastal Fish, Flight, Southern Social) and frankly I'd bet Porch is the cash cow of the group due to the relatively poor value proposition. We had a great experience exploring the finest steak and accompaniments one could wish for. But, for my money, Coastal does a pretty good steak too.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!
