Nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. Got whole clams and they were cooked to perfection. Onion rings tasted fresh and like homemade.

My husband picked this place based on he wanted seafood and clam chowder. The staff were friendly, and the wait wasn't too bad. From the time we walked in, to sitting at a table was about 30 minutes. Got the potato skins, which were good and the horseradish sour cream was surprisingly good, since I don't like horseradish. I can't say I enjoyed my dinner as my prime rib, I don't think was very good, and my potato was a bit undercooked. My kids each got a pizza one cheese and the other has bbq chicken pizza. Both did not care for them and didn't eat much. My husband had a seafood dish he said was okay. As for the restaurant it was clean and well taken care of. With a fish tank in the middle.

I was really craving soup on a rainy night so I ordered the French onion soup and zucchini sticks for takeout. I am not from around the area so when I went to pick it up, I was confused on where to go as the building is huge with multiple entry points. I picked a door and I was told to go around through the restaurant towards the attached bake shop and what a great money making strategy. I bought candy and two pastries while I was waiting for my food. When I got home, I saw that I was given a pretty healthy portion of cheese and bread for the top of my French onion soup which was nice but by that point it was not hot enough anymore to melt despite being less than 10 min away. It was a bit disappointing but that's on me for getting French onion soup as takeout. The fried zucchini also traveled pretty badly. There was a dipping sauce that was ranch (think?) but put in a plastic container within the box that melted and made it so that the sauce got all over the fried zucchini and made everything very soggy. I just didn't like the flavor either. I would definitely not order that again even in the restaurant. It seemed like a pretty popular restaurant so I'd be willing to give it another shot inside the restaurant but wouldn't recommend ordering for pick up. Love the bakery though! I heard the fruit tart was good and my profiterole was perfectly baked, though lacking flavor on the filling which was supposed to be mango but just tasted like a plain vanilla cream.

After going to the GH for years this is my opinion: 1. Great family atmosphere & local hangout place. 2. Awesome bartenders...especially Donna! 3. Great drinks & appetizers...prime rib is the best around. 4. Reasonable prices. The GH is a definitely a must for anyone in the seacoast area. I give a solid 4 stars so give it a try and Enjoy!

I had the prime rib , rice & broccoli! The rice was great! And the rib was pretty decent as well very tasty! Have driven by this place for years & years and I honestly thought it was a new place taken over recently only to find out its been the same & they just changed somethings around (sign out front, and a slight reno) Whenever Mom and I are out driving around looking for food we always end up at the same spots, so we decided this time to just pull in, I didnt even tell her where we were going I just pulled in. Confused at first where to go but then we found it, Walked in & its soo much nicer inside than the outside leads you to believe it is going to be. I might have slightly felt underdressed (I had on mom sweats that day - not house ones, but just casual ones) The place is nice, the atmosphere is nice, It was around 2-3 when we got there & everyone there was slightly of the older generation! Menu had many options, was torn on what to do, were we there for apps & drinks, did we want a full meal, what to do?! We got a bunch of apps, a pizza and some drinks, and bread (Im all about unnecessary carbs) Apps were ok, Mussels were TINY - no fault of theirs, just might have been better if there was something to them. Calamari was good. The pizza although hesitant at first (Shrimp with Red sauce) was rather tasty I put my card down on the table & expected the bill, instead he ran the bill and then gave me back the CC receipt, we paid $98 for 2 apps, 2 drinks & Pizza, I have since gone back in & tried to do the math based on the menu and that is WAY OFF, Unless the drinks were $25 each, I didnt realize until after we had walked out, So for $98 it wasnt somewhere I would run back to, However it was good, Next time I might just pay closer attention, but writing this has me back in the 'What the hell was $98" zone!!

We landed in the room to the left, which was a total bonus because this restaurant had a cruise ship vibe going on. We swung by for a late drink and lunch because, priorities. We both went all in on the sweet summertime cherry lemonade, aka the drunkin delight. We kicked things off with the French onion soup, which was a total hit. I mean, absolutely delicious. For lunch, I opted for the California sandwich, because turkey, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and cheese with fries is the answer to all of life's questions. Hubby, on the other hand, went with the streak and cheese sandwich, also with fries, because he's a man of simple yet excellent taste. Both were very good, because of course they were.

I've been here twice now both times with my Mom. She chose this place a while ago for lunch. I got…read morethe chicken tenders dinner. It was OK but I wasn't a big fan of the brand of dipping sauce that they carry. Onion rings are delicious & I believe that they are homemade. It's an easy process as you go up to the counter to place your food & drink order. Visible menu on display with prices. You pay, get a number and can go inside & seat yourself. They will call out your number & bring your food to your table. On my first visit here staff was attentive and someone had come by to check on how we were doing & asked us if we needed anything. Not on this trip and it was busier on my 1st visit this year. My mom was craving whole belly clams & wanted to come here. We came around 4pm on a Tuesday. I decided I was going to get a lobster roll as I haven't had one on my visit while here in NH and I was ok with paying the crazy price of $29.99 and boy was I disappointed!! The texture of the lobster was odd.....it was soft, smooth & slippery. I've never had a lobster roll where the meat tasted like this before. Maybe it was super fresh? IDK but the lobster was lacking in the taste department. I got it with mayo. There was absolutely no spices/seasonings in it, no celery for that crunch, nothing. It was the worst lobster roll that I've ever had even the mayo didn't have any taste & I had asked for extra mayo. Oh & the bun, what was that?? One side looked like a hot dog roll & the other side looked like the butt end of a loaf of bread. It was barely even toasted on one side if that. Thank God for the onion rings as they were delicious & I knew that as I had them on my first visit. I told my mom how disappointed I was in their lobster roll and only ate 1/2 of it but due to the cost of it I had asked for a container to take the uneaten 1/2 home. I planned on adding some flavor to it with spices & some more mayo. Well the next day I decided I wasn't interested in it and offered it to my mom who gladly accepted. I asked her if she wanted me to put some seasoning in it & she said "no" well she agreed with me that it had NO flavor to it & was just as disappointed as I was. So unfortunately I don't recommend the lobster roll with mayo unless you like it to lack flavor. This last visit no one came to check on us & I saw 4 different girls in the eating area that worked there. My reasons for the 3 stars: 1. Prices 2. No flavor in the lobster roll, no hot dog bun, nor a toasted bun 3. Gross dipping sauce for your chicken tenders 4. Service in the inside seating area is a hit or miss I don't see myself coming back here unless I'm giving my mom a ride for her to get something to eat. She did enjoy her whole belly clams but even those were expensive. I know seafood can be pricey but I feel like their prices are not competitive with other places that serve seafood. This definitely isn't a fancy place so don't expect it to be. Food is served on paper, you get a little package with plastic silverware & a napkin. Staff aren't waiting on you. You get your own drink up at the soda fountain. These things I don't mind. I just expect my food to taste good & be satisfying which my most recent trip it wasn't.

And I tasted my dining companion's duck breast an it was also delicious (which they concurred in thinking). The dessert special was a sticky toffee pudding with bananas foster ice cream and peanut butter magic shell and I wish I could eat it every day. The only downsides were that (1) I didn't love the dessert cocktail (which was also absent a garnish), but it could also very well be personal preference and it was only $7, (2) it was freaking freezing in the restaurant. We were seated in a corner that didn't seem to have any baseboard heaters, and even though we weren't far from the fireplace, there was so little insulation on the windows we were all egregiously uncomfortable. The service was great, with the waitress very helpfully answering all our questions and brining each course with perfect timing. So I got the hot lobster roll and my boyfriend got the cold lobster roll (not pictured sadly). Personally, I prefer a warm buttery roll, but he loved his cold roll and said it was perfectly seasoned. You get a good amount of lobster and it's $30. The line... omg it was out the door and soooo long. But trust me. Stay! It's worth it. And they move super fast. The pricing overall was really good. We also got the lobster bisque which had chunks of lobster in it (I dipped my roll in it and it was magic). Only $10! And a good portion. But they have all sorts of things--Mac and cheese, shrimp cocktail, steamers... and next door you can get fresh seafood as well. This is seafood heaven. And again, I was content with the price for quality food. Now let me quickly talk about the view because that was awesome. We sat outside and watched the ocean because it's at Rye Harbor (as the name suggests). It's so relaxing. Especially on a beautiful day. Here's the one thing you may be iffy on. $10 to pay for parking for the day. 30 minutes free. If you think you can do it all in 30 minutes, go for it. But we didn't want to rush so we paid $10 for parking which is kind of eh. But I get it because the whale watch leaves from the harbor. A minor thing to know, but not something to deter you from coming. Though if you don't come... that's more lobster rolls for me!
