    Tots!
    Michael R.

We've wanted to try this spot for some time and overall glad that we did. It seems to be busy all the time and we stopped in for lunch. We were told there would be a 15 minute wait and we would be texted. The estimate was right on the money and we were promptly seated when we returned. Unfortunately, we were never assigned a waiter/waitress, and sat for quite some time watching all the tables seated after us having their orders taken. The hostess was nowhere to be found, so I mentioned this to a waitress passing by. She apologized and said she would take care of us. She explained they have a "floating" server, but apparently they never floated in to take care of us :-( We started with tater tots, and were delighted. A generous portion, perfectly fried and crispy with three different dipping sauces. We also tried the club sandwich, and we didn't read closely, you have to choose one of the meats mentioned. Usually a club has all different meats, but not here. We chose Turkey and a massive triple decker sandwich was brought to the table. My only complaint here was that it was so tall, it was difficult to eat. Our takeaway is that the food is good here. Service was fine, once we had a server. The room is a bit crowded and noisy but it is a busy place. The breakfast options look great, very creative, but I don't usually dine out for breakfast. I think it is worth a try, but not if you are pressed for time.

    Don't miss their creative specials!

Having been regulars at their place in Newmarket, we were thrilled that this wonderful breakfast spot opened in downtown Exeter. (Though they are now open Thurs-Sat for dinner!) It is a little easy to miss walking down Water Street, but look for their sandwich board sign on the sidewalk. Then it is down the stairs. Don't miss the creative specials. Here is the last list. Had the Rickles--an eggs Benedict with crispy kimchi among other delicious stuff. They are always happy to take off the meat for vegetarians as they did here. Waitresses are efficient and friendly!

It took about 15 minutes for our order to be served, so not your typical "fast food". All in all, we enjoyed. The milkshake was delicious and old timey. The cheeseburger was a juicy and sloppy mess (in a good way), and did in fact remind me of in-out-burger. I felt it was the right size as well, and fairly priced. (Hello Five guys). The fries were mixed for me. Cooked to order, perfectly crispy and hot out of the fryer, so.... They were crinkle cut, which just isn't my type of fry. Insides were soft and tender and loaded with potato flavor. I am sure most would love them, but there is something about a crinkle cut fry that doesn't cut it for me :-( These seemed like legit hand cut fries as well. This is a "me" problem. We will return as I am anxious to try the hot dog. Hopefully some more staff will help speed the process up.

I want to give this place five stars, but I fear I cannot. As much as I adored my food (the double…read morecheeseburger is greasy in the best way possible), it cannot make up for the fact that this spot is severely understaffed. When we first walked in, we noticed that there was only one waitstaff in the front. She was killing it and doing her best, but it does upset me that she had to do it all herself. As someone who has worked in food service, I cannot imagine how exhausted she was. And how she is probably not paid enough to do all of this crazy stuff. Such as making milkshakes, taking orders (long lines), running back and forth from the front to the kitchen, bussing tables, etc. I have so much admiration for this woman. But this is kind of disgraceful... I also assume there's maybe two people working out back? Maybe one? The food took 40 minutes. For two burgers and fries. That is crazy for a "quick stop" restaurant. Let's dive into food... the burgers are very messy, but in the best way. Tip*** get them dirty. Then you get a secret sauce and griddled onions. The best way to eat a smash burger! Not shown, my mom loved the hot dog! The onion rings were also crispy and tasty. The fries were soft inside and crisp outside. Seasoned well. All in all, the food is fantastic. PLUS, the pricing is great!!! I used to love Lexie's but cannot fathom spending $12 for that. And it has gone downhill. Lee Frank's is giving them a run for their money!! Good!!! But all in all, it is sad that there is not enough help. With a properly run restaurant and good group of staff, this could be a great quick eats spot. It could be successful and finally stay in this building. I mean the turnover is crazy. Rooting for them. Once they get their shit together, I think this will be an Exeter favorite.

Finally, now that the 'newness' wore off, 4 of us were able to grab a table with ease. There was live music & they post on their Facebook page regularly with updates on food & cocktail specials. We decided on appetizers: nachos w/ chicken, mozzarella sticks & potato skins. The nachos were really good - I liked the chips they used. The mozzarella sticks were a bit underwhelming, similar to frozen ones I've purchased at BJs. The potato skins tasted like they were made in-house. ABOVE & BEYOND MOMENT: Our server, Jackie, was friendly & patient with our requests. I had asked if they could make a spicy margarita. She asked the bartender & they were out of their jalapeno tequila so they asked if it was okay to muddle fresh jalapenos instead. I said I trusted the bartender to do what they thought best. When my margarita was delivered, the Jackie asked if I wouldn't mind tasting it to make sure it wasn't too spicy. I think the fact they custom made the drink & ensured it was to my liking was great. I see mixed reviews about the prices. I honestly found that appetizers averaging about $15 was on the high side. We'd like to go back for dinner, maybe when there isn't live music. This cozy space has table seating along the walls and seating up at the full service bar. There is dog related country decor and a digital jukebox. There is also another informal dining room across the hall. This new "Big Dog" pub in Deerfield is not to be confused with "Big Dog" eats in Milford and "Big Dawg's" eatery in Haverhill (Bradford) MA. The breakfast menu offers a selection of egg dishes, omelets, pancakes, French toast, waffles, breakfast sandwiches and sides. The lunch/dinner menu offers a selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, paninis, burgers, flatbreads, pizzas, chicken entrees, pasta, and seafood. They have switched from standard fries to hand cut fries. There are posted specials on the board. The bar offers limited draft beers, beer bottles/cans, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks. The prices seem fair and they offer happy hour 3-5pm. I stopped by Big Dog Pub for dinner recently during the week. I was greeted and told I could sit at any open table I'd like. The seating at the bar was busy, so I sat at an open metal table next to the bar. The server brought over a menu to look over. I decided on the Fish & Chips special ($16 plus tax) and the Sweet Sausage Sautee ($15 plus tax). Both entrees came out together in 17 minutes. The portions were good on both. The fish & chips were very hot, crispy coating on the outside, tartar sauce on the side. The hand cut fries were firm and tasty. The shredded creamy cole slaw was sweet & tangy. The sautee dish had a mix of al dente cavatappi pasta tossed in a light cream tomato sauce with peppers, onions, small sausage bits and shaved parmesan cheese. I managed to finish both entrees and got the check with Toast QR code which was $33.64 with tax and before tip. The internet is very weak in this part of Deerfield, so had to pay the normal way. Overall, I enjoyed a great filling meal at Big Dog Pub. I will have to return here for breakfast!

Waitress was nice enough, but a bit distracted and we had to repeat our order a couple of times. Wait seemed long. We all liked aspects of their food, but didn't like others. The hash browns had zero flavor/seasoning and were a bit soggy. They were the base of my meal, so it was very disappointing. The kielbasa in it was browned nicely, but didn't make up for it. My husband's omelette oddly had a Kraft single melted on the top of it. C'mon. The "pan potatoes" were hard, dry, and uniform, clearly frozen. Again, not a lot of seasoning. Homefries should shine in a breakfast meal! Chili in the omelette tasted suspiciously like Hormel in a can. He did enjoy the biscuit and gravy, and that's hard to make happen. My daughter thought the sourdough was good. It was over $100.00 for our meal, the prices were a little steep, especially for what they were - average breakfast food, at best. I feel bad saying that, but there didn't seem to be a lot of pride in the food.

The Porchetta heavily relied on the pork and the sear, seasoning and proper cooking of the meat. It pulled apart easily, had a nice thin crust on it and was plenty tender while also juicy.
