    Smoked Half-Chicken

A comfortable / down to earth place to enjoy good BBQ. The outside side seating, fire pit and double garage doors that open to the inside blend well together. There is plenty of seats inside and out including a decent amount at the bar. My good points: 1. Service was prompt and friendly. 2. Affordable, won't break the bank. 3. Food & apps were all very good. I got the smoked half chicken & my wife got the brisket (lean portion). My grand daughter stuck with Mac 'n' Cheese & Cornbread. The cornbread is Awesome! 4. Good draft beer line with good local selections. 5. Full bar for standard or specialty drinks. I stuck with Patron Silver on the rocks, Wife had a Cosmo & grand daughter had ginger ale. 5. Plenty of bbq sauces ranging from "I'm a momma's boy" to "Your probably going to regret it" To each their own I say. My bad points: None other than Collard Greens would be nice to have on the menu. However the deep fried Brussel Sprouts made up for some of that potential. I definitely recommend this place for family, friends & co-workers. Enjoy!

    Cool garage theme !

Quick, friendly service. Moist, perfectly seasoned brisket. No knife needed . Bacon Mac and cheese was smooth and creamy. I had a bacon appetizer that I didn't share. It was that good. Tasty cornbread and nice selection of cold beers.

This place is amazing!!! Some of the BEST service from Fe, and the best food. The chicken wings are the BEST I've ever had, the bacon Mac and cheese was delicious. We had 4 sandwiches and a massive pretzel. Everything was 10/10 we will 100% be back. Insane menu, insane flavor. Do yourself a favor and GO.

Mini Q appetizer. Pulled pork over some slaw over cornbread.

Didn't know what to think about this place when I saw it online last year. Kinda gave off a little beach bar vibe more than a BBQ vibe. But it looks like they made a few updates since then and I had to go try it. Wow! I'm glad I did! Brisket is thick cut! Juicy! Super tender! Would have liked just a tiny bit more zing to the rub but it was damn near perfect! Ribs are thick meated (that's a word, dont argue with me) but maybe only 3-4 inches long. But the meat was delicious! Some of the Best I've ever had. Again, the rub is very very good, and caked on there like it should be. Pulled pork. Thick but not as juicy, not much fat. Cornbread is moist and sweet and gritty but it's still that sticky texture on the mouth which in most cases is fine. BUT That BUTTER! Honey Butter will created world peace someday. Slaw surprisingly good. Chopped and cubed styles, not shredded. But the flavor was quite well done. Now the MAC! SHELLED pasta, perfect blend of soupy, creamy, saucy, and gritty textures! White Cheddar! Little bit of Black Pepper! It's in the rankings for some of the best Mac in New England! No Joke! Gotta say, traveling all over New England for the best BBQ, The Garage is now in my top choices!

The table ordered an Onion Ring Tower. It included eight tempura-style onion rings and White BBQ and rémoulade dipping sauces. I like the tempura style and thought they were quite good. My wife thought they were a bit greasy. I noticed some of the rings had separation, and there was an inconsistent fry between the various rings. They were good, but not great. I thought the rémoulade was a bit bland, but I suppose I favor the hotter, more Cajun-flavored versions. The Spicy Sausage comes with cornbread, bacon mac'n' cheese, and pickles. It was a loose-packed Andouille-style sausage which I liked. The cornbread was okay, and the honey-butter for the cornbread was delicious. The bacon mac'n' cheese was "bacon surprise" and not particularly good. I wondered how a place that serves their ribs "naked," (barbeque sauces at the table), can do a proper St. Louis Style. I know that St. Louis Style refers to the cut rather than the cooking method, but still, my idea of St. Louis Style ribs are dry-rubbed, mopped, and slathered. These were dry-rubbed and dry on the outside. Whoever trimmed the ribs did a horrible job of removing the cartilage. The tips were hard, dry, and overcooked. Meanwhile, the ribs were terrible. Seemingly, someone just tossed them onto a very hot smoker, so insides didn't cook off the grease, and the outside dried out. No meat falling away from the bone on these. Even I couldn't eat them the next day at home, and I eat almost anything. The coleslaw was delicious, savory, with a nice texture. I can't see us returning.

    Great story behind her sleeve.

5 stars ***** go to Sam, she is very pleasant & outgoing. The cornbread is some of the best I've every had, served with honey butter. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich which sorry to say was very chewy & dry with lots of burnt pieces. The roll was perfectly grilled. The coleslaw needs some serious work. The location is great, the restaurant was an old garage. Inside is great & funky. The outside has picnic tables & a great fire pit. They turned the this location nto an instant hit. They have only been open for two weeks. There are still lots of wrinkles to iron out. Will I go back; yes, once they get their act together & Sam ( Samantha) is our waitperson. The ribs were ok for a town known for it's seafood. In the fall when I head south one of my stops is the world famous Wiley's BBQ. BBQ like you've never had before.

The Garage, located in Scarborough Maine is all the way down East Grand Ave on the outskirts of the ever popular Old Orchard Beach. It's location means on a nice sunny day, it's usually a rocking place to stop by. I've driven by numerous times but this was our first stop for an actual sit down meal. We love BBQ and have it probably way too much. We'll be having it even more now that I've actually tried this place out ! The 5 star should say it all, but I can't stop myself from saying a little more. Drinks were a jerry can and a summer lemonade, both were very nice on a sunny afternoon. We started with the potstickers with sweet chili Thai dipping sauce... enough said. We each got a brisket platter that came with Mac and cheese, pickles, cornbread and sweet honey butter. The sweet sugared cornbread with honey butter is an experience my taste buds won't soon forget. First the sun went away and I got a bit cold, our waitress could tell and turned on the fire pit and it was much warmer. It then started to rain during our meals, but the waitress, again was so awesome about letting us sneak under the tent! Her name was Bethany and she gave excellent service all around, so we thank her!! We were not disappointed at any point during this outing and there were no "to-go" boxes in sight and empty trays all around. The decor and signage was a pretty awesome and comical touch. The door signs were rocking. We will mostly definitely be returning here, probably much too often. We were still talking about this most memorable food experience hours later, and that says it all!

If I had my son's meal I would probably give it 5 stars. I ordered the wedge salad, which I usually would order if available. The bacon were tiny bits and I had to look closely to find. I added brisket to my salad, which tasted great, but was sparse. Moral of the story ...don't get a salad at a BBQ spot. My son got the combo which he loved. He had plenty of meat to share, since I didn't have much. He ate every bite and will definitely go back. We were confused by the seating as the hostess assumed we were going to the bar. Then the waitress wasn't friendly when we went to sit down. Our waiter was great!

Reservations recommended we were seated at a beautiful table for two right near the bar and started off with a Pinot noir and a cabernet. Both wines were delightful. For appetizers we had the braised lamb crepe and the octopus... Both dishes were delicious, presented well with sauces to die for. Followed by the pasta dish and the duck. These were the best dinners of the year for us. The blending of flavors were fantastic and it was augmented by the owner coming over and talking to us about how the food was prepared. I won't bore you with all the details but the octopus is slow boiled for 5 hours.. complete with wine. Corks it was tender and delicious with the Mediterranean flair. We go out to eat our fair share from high end to diners anywhere. The food is well prepared and delicious... This was the top for the year! From the service to the presentation to the wine to the ambiance, everything is top notch here. I will provide a warning. You will drop a pretty penny if you partake in all the courses, but we thought it was well worth it. Thank you to the staff and ownership. We enjoyed our evening.. a true date night.

So, we finally got to try the chef's table, or "Chef's Whim" as it's officially titled. Eight…read morecourses. In addition to the food, we added the suggested alcohol pairings. I say alcohol because it wasn't all wine but ... since it's a bit of a surprise in terms of what actually appears I'll just leave it at that. However, as to the food ... I'll give a taste, a flavor, a wisp of a whisper of the full culinary adventure. For complete details, see your local sous chef! Here's what we had. In the middle of my photo collage, a blood sausage slider with fennel/jalapeño sauce on toasted brioche bun. Then clockwise from top left - cornbread with maple glaze in a Barbie sized personal cast iron skillet; beet salad with goat cheese half spheres; a dessert tray of black apple cake with hay ice cream (yes, seriously), chamomile pot de creme and a duck fat beignet; an assortment of ice creams - fenugreek, fennel/maitake mushroom/burnt hazelnut (all tasted fabulous and in each you could taste the listed flavors); entree of duck and wild mushroom tart; white bean soup and finally a pasta dish of ravioli with two fillings. Just a note on what it would take to make it yourself. See that hexagonal white blob on the bottom row, middle pic? That's a potato foam. Forgive me for not recalling the full procedure but the prep is roughly 7 hours long. First, the cut potatoes are cooked in a sous vide for 2 hours so that no moisture is added to them. Then a succession of ricing, smoking, drying, undrying, mashing, placing in a foam machine that looked like a whipped cream dispenser and boom - a tiny dollop of potato. It tasted great. But man - that's a lot of effort for a mouthful of potato. I don't think I'll be trying it at home. Over two hours of eating and chatting. I brought a couple of my restaurant-based cartoons as my personal thanks for the meal and was shocked that Justin, their sommelier, had done a cartoon of his own ahead of time for me! Just stick to wine, Justin - I don't need any MORE competition with my magazine editors ... With Dylan ably providing the primary chef duties and Amaya and Justin handling the booze, the meal was a smashing success. The food pairings were masterfully chosen and timing of the dishes meant we were always primed for the next one. Although the succession of what I'd call dessert dishes made me start to feel like a Hobbit enjoying dessert, second dessert and then post seconds. As Anton Ego said in Ratatouille (and they have a cute Reme rat under glass on a shelf) "I shall be returning, hungry for more."

Everything is self-serve: you get your own water and cutlery, order at the front, and they bring the food out to you. We ordered the "weird little salad" for $10 and two pepperoni pizzas for $18 each, one with a hot honey add-on (additional $2). I didn't love the "weird little salad," since it was a strange clash of flavors of textures (perhaps as advertised?), but my main gripe is that it was extremely tiny, basically the size of a ring dish, barely enough for one person. We enjoyed the pizza, which was on the oilier side but yummy. Overall, though, we left the place feeling underwhelmed. For two pizzas and a tiny bit of salad, the bill came out to over $60, which felt like a lot given the casual barstool seating and the lack of sit-down service. For a quick bite in a time crunch, maybe I'd come back again, but otherwise, I'll probably stick to Portland's many other great offerings.

Food is brought up to you, and you can order subsequent rounds of food by crossing out previous orders and marking up the menu anew. I would highly recommend multiple rounds of oysters -- the first to try one of each and figure out which varieties you prefer, the second to get more of the ones you like, and the last to go all in on your favorite. They've got a varied selection that will suit various tastes, whether you favor a large creamy oyster, a small briny guy, or somewhere in between. All from Maine, which made me feel better about having oysters in a non-ber month. The oysters here are top notch, and the shuckers are, too. Not a single speck of shell in there! I love oysters, and this was my paradise. The non oyster items are also worth trying, so if you have a friend who isn't into oysters, there's something here for them, too. The smoked fish dip and french onion dip are awesome, and the chips they get from another local producer are fantastic. Whether you're a beer lover, a wine person, or a cocktailer, they've got something for you here. Any of those could be the perfect company for your favorite oyster, or you could go for their cucumber mint lemonade slushy, which is insanely refreshing and a great palate cleanser between oysters. Service is efficient, welcoming, and friendly. I think anyone from an oyster novice to an aficionado would feel right at home here. If I didn't live on the opposite side of the country, I'd be here all the time. Unfortunately for me, I'm relegated to pining for these oysters from a distance.
