We were happy to find this restaurant open during the winter here in Wells. We were able to walk in and get get seated quickly. It was quite packed with people both at the bar and dining areas. We ordered appetizer of fried pickles, which was a huge portion for $10. (I didn't expect some sort of seasoned salt on top of them yuck) , Ordered the fried clam strip platter which consisted of a plentiful portion of very tender clam strips, fries (which also had the seasoned salt in them) and coleslaw. The coleslaw was something less desired and will choose another option in the future. The last meal was steak tip dinner. Only 3 small tenderloins of steak served with coleslaw and baked potato (of choice). A little over priced for the quantity of beef. Overall the staff was very friendly. I've been to Litchfield's 3 or 4 times and consider it a decent local restaurant for casual dining. I've had their steamers, Reuben and most recently the Wagyu sliders with some Haddock bites....all very good. I've never gotten the pizza but it definitely looks pretty decent. The atmosphere is simple and comfortable. The servers are pleasant and polite. The menu selection is well rounded and affordable. My main criticism is that the drinks are inconsistent to the point the last time I ordered an additional shot of JD for my jack and soda. I give 3-1/2 stars with potential to be north of 4 stars. Very good. Wells Maine in winter means many closed restaurants. This bar and grille area s definitely a locals place. We started with an order of Wagyu sliders, that were very very good. They had bacon, melted cheese and mayo on them each and came with three in the order. Then we split the grilled chicken salad, which was a basic fresh mixed green salad with a few tomatoes, a few cucumber slices, some croutons, and very small amount of shredded cheese. Dressings tasted like they were out of a bottle, but they were good. We especially liked the waitress. No nonsense and great service. We could also see what seemed to be the manager, replenishing tables, cleaning up, and helping out wherever needed. Well, it wasn't exactly fine dining, we really did like the place. I would describe this place as more of a local spot in a touristy area. We went on a weekend night and it took us around a half hour to get a seat at the bar. While waiting, we tried to get a drink and that took at least 15 minutes as well. For food, I ordered the seafood 2 way combo. For $25, the portions were small and the clams tasted off. I wasn't able to finish the clams because of they're odd taste. The scallops were good however, as were the sides. My mom ordered the pizza and it was very delicious and affordable. While I am giving 3 stars because of the disappointing service and clams, I would come back and stick to bar food. I'd like to go back and try a burger or wings or something! We called ahead, they don't take reservations but they take call aheads. They told me it would be about 30-40 minutes. It ended up being over an hour and with little children waiting that was hard to do. Service was very good once we got our waitress. My mom and mother in law got the steaks and enjoyed it. I got the big monster lobster roll, it was very disappointing. They did have kids cups which was nice for my girls and the chicken tenders and fries were good for them.. This was our first stop after Landon Manchester, on our way to Acadia NP. We arrived at 2 on a Tuesday. It was pretty crowded. The lobster roll had the right amount of butter. The roll it was served on was perfect. The chicken strips had a lite breading . It came with a Honey Dijon sauce. It was very good. The server was very friendly. Service was excellent. Especially considering how busy they were. Next time I'm in Maine we will be sure to stop here. read more

Great food and great staff! We went there 2 days in a row and the both days were awesome. First day we had a magician at the table and he was incredible. Our kids(we as well) enjoyed his tricks. The next day we were there around 6:30pm and there was a huge crowd in the outside part of the restaurant(pavilion). They've told us that there was a trivia going on. We've got a table outside and enjoyed the dinner and played the trivia as well. We will go back for sure and I highly recommend this place. read more

We are locals who decided to try Litchfeild's for our dinner tonight and boy are we happy we did! Our waitress took our drink orders and we ordered raw oysters. We LOVED the homemade cocktail sauce that accompanied the oysters so much, we held it for our meals. The oysters were beautifully shucked and we had no shells or bits of shells with them. Compliments! We opted to share a 3 way combo and ordered two side salads. The seafood was beautifully fried and the batter was light and tender; the seafood perfectly fried! We enjoyed every bite and ordered onion rings. They were fantastic! The food was served freshly cooked (or prepared), hot and delicious. Went with a large group for a late dinner. Very busy restaurant, which we took as a good sign. We were sat in a large covered patio, that included fans and a large projection TV. Our server was friendly and upfront with the items they had already run out of that night. Their menu includes Maine favorites, and something for everyone. Great Bar and Grill that we visited well in the area. Staff was super friendly and attentive and food came out really fast. Got the fried banana peppers and boneless buffalo wings for apps and both were delicious. Never had fried banana peppers before but have to say I will now be on the hunt for them. They were better than any fried pickle app I've ever had. Got the Cowgirl burger and it was one of the most flavorful and balanced burgers I've ever had. Great tasting burger with a nice little kick of heat from the fried jalapeños and ghost pepper cheese. Not a huge French Fry fan in general but those were really good as well. Not being a stranger to a good dive bar I realize this place is just a rung or two above that and loaded with locals at night, however locals and "divey" being ok with me, I opted to stop in after a long trip into Wells knowing not much else was open at 9:15 PM on a Wednesday night in May. I proceeded to the bar which was quite full and spotted an empty chair and did the right thing and asked if anybody was sitting there. The response that I got from the melon, headed guy holding court at the center area of the bar was that he was "probably sitting there" and then ole melon head pointed to the chair where his drink was and said he was probably sitting there too. Not being in a fighting mood tonight I decided to take my cue and headed for the door all while being stared down by 2 other patrons . In a world where owning a profitable restaurant isn't quite as easy as my friend melon head in being a jackass, every sale counts and every return customer is a bonus. I've been to Litchfields many times (probably before 915 pm) and it's been ok. Tonight, unfortunately it was probably fight or opt for McDonald's, which was probably just as good as what I was going to get at Litchfields.... And the young lady at the drive-through window was quite friendly. I guess that's my bonus tonight..... I would have to think very hard before being that return customer to Litchfields and giving them any bonus! Sad! read more

We just bought a house in Wells and this was one of our first stops! The honey mustard is amazing and so are the chicken tenders you can tell they are home made and have light batter but are so tender. One of many, many restaurants on the stretch of Route 1 through Wells...I keep returning here because their pizza is really good, and they have a nice outdoor patio. Also not as much of a tourist trap as some of the other places, which is nice. My big gripe with Litchfield's is that they don't keep a list of what they have for draft beer! They ask what do you like, then tell you what they have in that style. Not a huge deal, but it is weird and I like to see a list in case something I might not usually get jumps out at me. read more

Based upon my one visit, this place is GREAT! Lunch special, cup of chawda and a small lobstah roll; $18! The lobster roll was small but the lobster was falling out of the bun, very good flavor and satisfying. Then there's the clam chowder. I'm I chowder snob, I'll admit it... The flavor was amazing and the clams were plentiful and soft. A really great cup of chowder. So if it's a 5 star experience, why only 4 stars?
