It's a little bit overpriced for what it is. It is seemingly fresh ingredients. that tiny little cup of French onion soup should be about five dollars instead of nine. French onion soup was pretty hearty and good, My sandwich was refreshing and filling. Just needed a tad bit of salt. They definitely need to update their website because when you're ordering over the phone, you're thinking you're getting the cheaper prices. The dining room is quaint. Every time we eat here the food is the best. A true representation of what Maine life is really about. The food is out of this world, generous proportions for a small amount of money, servicing, local and Far. The staff is always friendly, respectful, and quick to serve. My wife and I eat in many different restaurants in Maine and this one is the best. Over the past year, we have eaten here on average twice a week. This place is disgusting. Go anywhere else in Sanford and have a better time. Food made me, my wife and my two kids deathly ill. Cold disgusting burger, somehow they messed up a french onion soup and a pulled pork "sandwich" that was mostly morphed with the container it was given to us in. The inside wreaks of cigarettes, the beer ordered was flat and the waitress/ hostess is extremely rude. Normally not one to leave a review but good people of Sanford go eat somewhere else! Publick House is a staple in the Sanford/Springvale community, and you can tell due to the regulars that populate the establishment on any given night. Regardless of when you go, there is sure to be a wait with limited to no spots at the bar, because again, people are dedicated to this place, and for good reason. Publick House always has an extensive draught beer list, featuring many local beers from Maine. This is a revolving list and changes regularly to keep the lineup interesting and new. They also have a variety of cocktail offerings...and everything is squeezed fresh. On the topic of fresh...everything is made in house, and it is evident when you sit by the bar, as they are consistently prepping food items. And serving sizes are HUGE, and price points do not break the bank. Some of my favorites include the are the roast beef panini with thinly sliced ribeye and the buffalo chicken salad wrap! There are also a variety of sides to choose from other than fries, but I highly recommend the onion petals with the chipotle ranch! Overall, Publick House is a great establishment with elevated pub food offerings. It is certainly worth the wait, if you are willing to give it a shot! read more

We found this place after a day of hiking and we were getting hangry. We saw that the publik house was opening at 2. We made our way there and we're surprised to see that a good size line was forming by the door. Upon opening the place was packed, and I'm not surprised at all. We ordered a round of drinks, and got an appetizer of fried pickles. Delicious. We then each got an entree, mine was the fried chicken sandwich, and fries. I've never had a better fried or larger chicken sandwich anywhere!! I ate my Lunch and had plenty left for dinner as well. My mother got a fried haddock and slaw wrap, that she said was a wonderful combination. Their French fries are some of the best in the state, we love love love them. We also split a piece of coconut nilla crust cream pie and we both needed an extra piece to bring home. Best piece of pie I've ever had. They have an open kitchen concept and you can watch the cooks make your food. They have a decent size bar with a wide variety of beer on tap. They display taps around the restaurant and it gives for great decor. Service was great, food was great, atmosphere was great... all in all a five star experience and it's like that every time we stop in! read more

This is a great spot to visit. Very popular and by the time we left, there were people waiting for tables and bar spots, so get there early. This is also a regulars bar. Everyone seems to know everyone, and from the conversations between the bartender staff and the patrons, many people here went to the same local high school. That was fun. The three of us had the ribeye beef au jus sandwich. You can have it with the au jus or french onion soup, which I am certain is delicious. Fries were not as good as the onion petals. There's also a salad option. Great drinks, and wonderful prompt service from the ladies behind the bar when we visited on a Saturday afternoon. All three of us had a fantastic time, and it was very enjoyable to hang out here and eat and drink for a time. For me, this place is highly recommended. Food took forever and we ended up having to take the order to go. We were told that by ordering the pretzel as an appetizer it takes 20 mins to bake and backs up everything else. My wife and I have been wanting to try this place and I decided I should start knocking some places off my bookmarks list. We came in on a Wednesday night and it was busy! Filled with locals that all seemed to know each other, which is one of my favorite parts about Maine. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated, and were offered drinks from their extensive beer menu while we waited. After being seated, we quickly ordered drinks and an appetizer - the stuffed mushrooms. They came out fairly quickly and were AMAZING! I could've eaten 10 of those things. We decided we should get a group of 4 to come back and order an appetizer each to try them all. My wife ordered the turkey panini with onion petals and I had the Mac and cheese with onion petals. We couldn't even finish half of our servings due to the large portions, but the leftovers were equally tasty. We arrived at noon, opening time, and were the second ones in the door. Shortly a waitress came and took our drink order. We had met there with good friends from out of town so we were catching up. When our server returned about 12:15 we were not yet ready to order, but I did order an appetizer. At 12:30 my appetizer arrived and we all placed our food order. The restaurant was busy by now. We all shared the appetizer and it was good. By 1pm our entrees had not arrived so I questioned our server. I was told in no uncertain and very direct terms that it was our fault because we waited so long to order. 15 minutes later (1:15 now) my friend went to ask the hostess why our food was taking so long. Shortly, another server came over and told us very rudely that because we waited so long to order all other customers food was prepared first....again, it was our fault. Our order finally arrived at 1:30, 90 minutes after we arrived and 60 minutes after we placed our order. When we were served I asked our server to please send the manager out because I wanted to talk to him or her. She came out and again told us that it was our fault because we were took so long to order. Her manner also bordered on rude. She offered no apology at all and could only repeat that it was our fault. It is not difficult to understand why the staff treats customers the way they do, that type of customer service always trickles down from above. Regarding the quality of the food, our appetizer (hot pretzel) was very good, my colleagues' entrees were fine, but my entree (chicken fingers) were way over cooked. I had to cut off both ends of the chicken because they were burned through. Needless to say we will not be back! read more

I've tried almost everything on the menu and can truly say it is all fantastic and you certainly get your money's worth. It's a great affordable place for a date or just hanging out with loved ones. If you are looking for good drinks and pub food, this is the place to go in the Sanford/Springvale area. Not the best place for a quiet dinner if that is what you are into- this place is loud and busy (it is a bar after all) but I love that. Our waitress was super friendly and sweet and funny. Drinks- Steve got the "paddle" which is a flight of four beers for 6.00 (!!! Awesome !!!). He got two cause yolo at that price. I got the prickly pear margarita (which was a special) and a gin cocktail. These drinks are STRONG and I LOVE IT. I only needed two to feel adequately buzzed. Food- typical pub food! We came up to watch our son pitch for the North Adams Steeplecats vs the Sanford Mainers and followed Yelp reviews to this great spot. As we were walking in they were folding up the Open Flag but they still welcomed us in as the final patrons of the night which was very appreciated. Nikki was our waitress and she was stellar. Sauv Blanc ($8) for Joyce, Absolut Martini ($9.50) for me - excellent. Joyce had the Chicken Pesto Panini ($11.50) with a side salad which she loved and took 1/2 to the hotel. I went with the Black Angus Burger ($12.00), 1/2lb of juicy goodness cooked a perfect medium with bacon and cheese. Great roll, ridiculously good fries. Rude service. Came in here with a few of my coworkers for a take out lunch. Though we were immediately noticed and waited upon, we told them we wanted to order to go because it was the first beautiful day in 3 days. They didn't seem pleased we were ordering take out, nor were they pleased that we all wanted to pay separately. The waitress that took our lunch order made a fuss and a obnoxiously loud comment about us paying separately and we weren't offered a place to sit to look at the menu, to order nor to wait for our order. We actually had to find menus for ourselves to order because we weren't even given menus. All our sandwiches were average. They shorted us a fork so one of my coworkers had to eat a salad with a spoon. All 3 salads were inconsistent, only 1 of the 3 had cheese. Though I would say portions are rather large, my chicken pesto sandwich had no flavor. It was a big piece of juicy chicken, but I paid $10 for a piece of chicken on toasted bread? Really, not worth it. I had high hopes for this place. Not impressed, I won't come back here not for the food and especially not the service. They just lost business from at least a handful of business-professionals from around the corner, I don't believe my coworkers nor I will be returning and I know I won't recommend my coworkers and visiting clientele, family and friends here. read more
