This is a hidden gem. Not being from the area it took us a few months to try. But when a sandwich is what we want Garden Deli is excellent. Similar to Jersey Mikes they slice the meats after ordering. The choice of bread is my favorite. Try the tomato basil. I also enjoy the macaroni salad ( it is a little sweet) . Love me some sandwiches at Garden Deli! I also love Jimmy John's and Potbelly, but nothing compares to a mom and pop shop with freshly sliced deli meat and produce. I have grown up with this place since it was on the tiny shack on Galena, to Lincoln "mall," and now on Rte 26. When I visit my parents, this is on my nostalgia checklist. The soups are tasty, toppings great and prices incredibly low(about $3 for a small sandwich). The small sandwich (of over 18, customizable options) is served on a yummy potato bun and plenty large to fill you up. The chips and drink selections are pretty good. All they really need to have are the local Mrs. Mike's chips (which they have in abundance) and I am a happy camper. Yes, they microwave your sandwich to melt the cheese, but not enough to make the bread tough. In fact, the bread and finely sliced meats are so soft and yumm-o. I usually get the Outer Spice with turkey and pepperoni and swap swiss for the provolone. So good! The lettuce is shredded, which is awesome, and they have some of the best dill pickle chips. I always get carrot slices and extra pickles on the side at no additional charge. The only bummers are the lacking cheese and condiment choices. The service can also be hit or miss but it is typically pretty friendly and efficient. read more

Booooooooo!!! I throw rotten tomatoes and other such foul smelling putrifying produce in your general direction. I will not be setting pinkie toe into this establishment any time soon. My complaint isn't the food it's the personnel. You want half a sandwich on the tomato basil bread? Well, think again. The owner will have no problem explaining how expensive the bread is and how they won't be able to sell the other half. Really? I'm the only person in Freeport who wants half a sandwich on the tomato basil bread?Somehow I doubt that. Being that was the situation, I decided to just stick with a salad I had brought while the group I was with (including my husband) bought approved sandwiches. As my husband was paying the owner made a point to come up to him and tell him that I couldn't be eating "outside" food in there. I could sit outside in the parking lot if you would have liked. And I would have been eating your food in addition to my salad if you would have let me order what I wanted. Fault is on you. Absolutely love eating here. The food is amazing the prices are good and the staff is wonderful. We lunch here at least once a week. Sometimes there is a line but it always moves fast. The word "meh" sums this place up. The prices are cheap (under $4 for a sandwich), but you get what you pay for. In my experience, the vegetables are old and shriveled, and the meat is extremely processed. I also agree with the reviewer who says "The food is good, but they microwave your food on a Styrofoam plate. That is not very safe." To be specific, I agree about the microwave and the Styrofoam. Nothing at this place made me angry or nauseous, which why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. However, when Jimmy Johns is selling fresh, consistent, cheap sandwiches a few blocks away, I don't see any reason to visit the Garden Deli. read more

Rumor has it that this place was across the street before in a tiny little shop. Now they moved across to the Lincoln Mall to house their awesome sandwich factory. I'll admit, the space is huge. Pretty much larger then any sandwich place I have ever seen, and for being in Freeport, it is like having a shop in a football field. Regardless, the food is great. The meat was fresh and the service was excellent. The bread was also great - which helped make the sandwich. If you are in town, and don't want to eat at the standard fast food fair - check out Garden Deli - it is worth it! read more

This is a great local deli. They slice your meats to order and paper thin. The bread is always fresh and they a variety of sandwiches. The owners work almost everyday and are super friendly. The wife makes two homemade soups every day and I have yet to have a bad one. She sometimes makes chili which is fantastic. They also serve ice cream which is nice in the summer. They just moved into a larger space in the Lincoln Mall which helped the atmosphere. read more

My family and I have been coming here for as long as I can remember - when it was in the building next to happy wok, when it was in the Lincoln mall, and now in its new location (have to say their current location is my favorite). We have always loved it. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. My favorites are the #1 (roast beef, turkey, provolone) on potato roll, the #7 (turkey, provolone) on potato roll, potato bacon soup, chicken and wild rice soup, and their macaroni salad.. I've never had a bad experience here! Not to mention, the prices here are majorly ideal - $2.75 for a small sandwich, $3.75 for a large, $2 for a small soup, $3 for a large soup, etc. You get the jist - it's CHEAP, GOOD food. The Garden Deli looks o.k when you come in but the food was not as fresh as I would expect! Wanted to try something different then the Same old Sub chains. The food choices were plenty and much to choose from. The prices were good but got what I paid for. The bread was on the verge of being stale! The meat looked fine but not much of it! The veggies were kind of on the not so fresh side! Over all I should of gone to the chain sub shop....... Can't say I will be returning any time soon. read more

This place is not a deli. It is a poor excuse for a sandwich shop. The breads are right off the shelf of your local supermarket. The female owner is an arrogant, angry woman. The soups are slop. Don't go near the ice cream. It has been sitting in the freezer for months. The carrot sticks are the best thing about this joint. read more
