Stopped in for lunch on our way to Iowa. Landmark is your basic "small town" diner with booths, counter and a few tables. Friendly employees - look to have lots of regulars. Rick ordered the fried chicken - which understandably takes extra time as it's cooked when you order - not sitting under a heat lamp getting soggy. The chicken was a little dry and the breading was bland. Meal was accompanied with canned green beans, mashed potatoes that may or may not have been instant, and gravy that was packaged. I had the mushroom Swiss burger. I really should remember to ask about the mushrooms before I order one. These mushrooms were canned- which can be fine if they are sautéed or warmed in a mushroom sauce. These 'shrooms were not. And - while I should have expected it - the "Swiss" cheese was a slice of Kraft processed Swiss cheese. This from a place that is 23 miles from Monroe, Wisconsin - the Swiss Cheese capital of the world! Note to my friends who are OCD - do not sit in the first set of booths when you come in. These booths were all moved forward a few inches during a remodel - but the booth numbers on the wall and the lights above the table - which used to be centered - are now skewed to one side of the table. While Landmark was an acceptable lunch spot - we will not be adding it to our rotation of places to stop on our way to Iowa. read more

located downtown in a building filled with history like a step back in time nothing fancy but a lot of character it is definitely a place for the locals but being from out of town made me feel welcome. Food classic style hot and delicious read more

After my breakfast of a stale Euclid Beach popcorn ball didn't work out - I hopped on my motorcycle hoping to come across some diner just like this one. I had no idea this was here, in fact. I had an early start, and when some bozo in a pickup truck started harassing me on the freeway (seriously - I think people see someone traveling and get jealous) - I just took the next exit and looked for a breakfast spot. I ended up at Landmark Family Restaurant - it was already in the low 80s and it wasn't even 9am yet! I had friendly chit chat with the guys at the next table, good brewed decaf, wheat toast and hashbrowns with my sauteed mushrooms/onions/peppers on top - my total check was $4.25! We're definitely NOT in the Bay Area, Toto! Good basic diner fare, great service - I think that lady wanted to make my blue eyes brown with all the decaf refills! Can't beat the price - great spot for a quick, cheap, hearty breakfast. read more

Front door appeared locked. We began walking away. A staff member had saw us and came yelling for us to come back. Decent size menu with lots of variety. Great prices for decent food. Could use some updating on decor. Friendly staff. Great cream soup. If you don't see what you want, ask, they'll try to make it. read more

The morning after a long day of moving, my boyfriend and some friends and I decided to fill up on a big breakfast. The front desk people at our friends' hotel recommended the Landmark Restaurant in downtown Freeport. The menu really isn't anything special: eggs, omelets, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, etc., the usual breakfast spread. (No eggs benedict, though...tear.) We couldn't believe how cheap everything was! Probably the most expensive item on the breakfast menu was a steak and eggs dish for $5.40. This ain't Chicago, that's for sure! We were all pleased with our meals, and the service was just fine. I'll be back! read more

I've double checked the name of the restaurant and the address, but it sure seems that we ate in a different restaurant than is reviewed here. We'd had such great luck for lunch the day before (just a block over and down one block--- but they're closed on Sundays). So, we took a chance based on yelp reviews. The best part of the meal was the price --- which should be a clue. The eggs were rubbery, meat was questionable, english muffin was stale and apparently the butter was swept over the muffin without benefit of touching it. read more

This unassuming diner is just blocks away from the Freeport Library and Lincoln-Douglas debate site. After visiting the site for a little while, we were had a bit of trouble looking for a place nearby to eat. Thank goodness Landmark was open on this Sunday morning. The restaurant itself has seen better days and is well worn. They must have spent some good money on their booths because they were in really good shape read: firm seats, not cracked. I suppose for a building erected in 1897, it has withstood the test of time the best it could. Service was really friendly considering they knew everyone in the restaurant but us. Coffee wasn't anything special, a little weak to our tastes too. I really stuck with water to wash down my Mexican skillet. It had onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and taco meat over a pile of hash browns. They give you "taco sauce" but the guys in back whipped up fresh salsa for me. Hot DAMN! It was spicy and delicious on its own, but killer on my breakfast. The guy got perfectly cooked eggs with his country boy breakfast. This was really a nice stop for us before we hit the road back to Chicago. At $11.55, I felt a bit like Bonnie & Clyde getting away with robbing the joint. read more

Food is always served hot, tasty and quick. Prices are wonderful, waitress's have always been friendly. They will make the food the way you like it. We almost always eat there before or after seeing a movie, which is right next door to the restaurant. My whole family loves the Landmark. read more

This little place is on the corner just north of the Cinema, and we eat here at least weekly (usually Sunday brunch before a movie). Main Pro's are price is good, and quantity of food is really good. Three of us regularly eat 3 entrees + drinks + a couple side-salads/soups/appetizers for about $25. If you are a regular, they get to know you, but internally the building could do with some updates - it probably looks very similar to 25 years ago. I also warn against using the bathroom if you are easily offended. Seems they get some rough traffic through there with lots of time to write on the walls. Simple, cheap, clean, casual food and environment. But might be a bit of a "dive" for some. read more

Food is always great here. Family owned and they treat their guests like family. Service can be hit or miss. Roxy is great! You definitely get your money's worth though. Give this little this hometown establishment a shot. read more
