My favorite part of this property is that it's across the street from the little beaches that everyone has to park along the street to get to. There's only a few actual beach parking spots for both beaches next door, so it was awesome to just walk a few yards and we're there! The second best thing about this place is that they have two full bathrooms. We stayed in a one bedroom and was pleasantly surprised to have two toilets and two tubs. I wish all condo resorts were like that. Now the only thing I didn't care for is that you will be asked to throw out the trash when you check out. I've never been requested to do that at any place I have been to. Not even the cheap closet sized motels. But we don't produce much waste, so it wasn't a big deal for us. The house is rundown and gross looking and the backyard which borders the parking lot and pool of The Gardens at West Maui has a dog pen with several dogs that are never let out and bark nonstop. Nice location right up against the Kapalua golf course and midway between Napili Bay and Kapalua Bay. Easy walking to several places to snorkel, eat, and relax. The check in process on several days of the week is through a call box to an operator at a resort a mile or so down the road, who will give you the combo to the lockbox adjacent to the phone that has your room keys in an envelope. It's definitely a small scavenger hunt experience on days they dont have anyone manning the front office, but they are very attentive once they return, requiring you to register and then proceeding to call you to offer deals for timeshare presentations. Parking spaces closest to the pool and larger units were very narrow and limited. The kitchen had everything needed to cook with but ants were a big problem, even on the second floor. They were all over the floors, and on every surface of the bathroom, despite us not leaving food out and keeping doors/windows closed at all times. The A/C worked well but keeping the space dehumidified and at a comfortable temperature was a constant challenge. It was either too cold and not humid, or too humid. All in all it was a decent space but could use some upgrades. read more

Honestly I thought this location was perfect for Maui. It's right next to several beaches so you don't have to worry about parking, there is a pool that normally has a limited number of people in it. The area is super quiet so it's relaxing to sit on the property at any point of the day. This is a timeshare property so be aware of that, but they never pushed us into a meeting or tried to get us to buy. There is free parking on the property and they even have events going on during Monday. I would recommend this property for anyone who is looking for smaller, quiet area to spend some time in Maui. read more

Location! Location! Location! We were very happy staying at the Gardens of West Maui for a week in an upstairs 1-bedroom suite in building 2. It was four of us, 2 adults and 2 kids. We had all the comforts and conveniences of home. The suite had air conditioning. We were there in July and we used it. It has a fully stocked kitchen, microwave, stove, dishwasher, full size fridge (with automatic ice maker), teapot, coffee maker, wine opener and utensils-- including a pizza cutter). They also supply paper towels and dish soap. There is a small washer and dryer. They supply some generic soap but no dryer sheets (we brought our own Tide pods in a baggie from home). It has 1 bedroom with TV and 1 bathroom with jack and Jill doors (one leading to the bedroom). The living room couch has a pull-out bed which is where the girls slept. There is also a TV in the living room. We also had a big balcony facing the Kapalua golf course. It had 1 lounge chair and a small table with two chairs. They also supply a starter pack of coffee for 2 days. No tea. They have small soaps and a few small shampoo bottles (no conditioner). We brought our own stuff. The suite didn't have many blankets but the kids each brought a rolled up personal blanket in their backpacks from home, so I didn't have to request any. They also have blue pool/beach towels but we brought our own. I was a little worried because we had a late flight and that meant a very late arrival. I called ahead to confirm our reservation and at that time they informed me to call them on the red courtesy phone upon my arrival and they would walk me through getting my keycard and hotel pack from their secured night box outside the office. It was pretty easy and we didn't have any problems. The next morning I went in person to complete the check in process. We rented a car for the week and it cost about $1100. They require the license plate number snd give you a tag to place on your rear view mirror as they monitor the vehicles parked on the property. We kept an umbrella in the car as it rains slightly during the day. Doesn't last very long (liquid sunshine). Pool hours are from 9 am-10 pm. There are tables and lounge chairs as well as two gas grills. The pool is 4 feet to 8 ft deep. No lifeguards on duty. Bring your own flotation devices (although people tend to leave their boogie boards snd noodles in the pool area. Just be sure to disinfect them if you plan on using them). There's a Safeway in Lahaina open 24 hours. We stopped there on our way to the resort so we had everything we needed before our check in. Across the street you will find 2 gentle beaches perfect for snorkeling and other water sports. Napili Bay (no bathrooms) and Kapalua Bay (w/bathrooms on site). Kapalua was voted one of the top 10 beaches in America in 2018 by Dr. Beach. They also rent beach lounge chairs, standup boards at the end of this beach. This is also where the two-mile Coastal walking trail starts. This trail ends at DT Fleming beach (and you'll pass rough Onolea beach as well). Bring hiking shoes/hiking boots as often rocky and muddy trails. Also water shoes for rocky beach bottom. Sandals for hanging out. All these shoes should be part of your Maui wardrobe. No bugs but we threw our trash out daily and put all food in the fridge (even cereal). There r chickens on the farm next door and yes, i heard the roosters at 5:30 am. My family slept right through it all week. We were getting an early start daily anyway in in order to beat crowds, find parking etc to get to our daily destinations. If you're sensitive, take ear plugs. Chickens run wild all over the island. There are also Village trails by the golf course. We enjoyed the 20-minute walk to Honolua Store (also sells great hot food, including pre-packed salads, drinks and has a coffee shop and deli)! Zip lining is also here, on OFFICE street. At the end of Office street you can hike to dragons teeth and the labyrinth. Take your yoga mat and do your yoga there! No shade at the beaches so rent umbrellas and chairs from the snorkel store to keep for the week and check out the snorkel report. We brought our own snorkeling gear, back packs and thermo water bottles. Nearby you also have expensive nice restaurants like merriman, the Gazebo, and sansei (sushi). Get the Shaka app for Haleakalā, Road to Hana and exploring West Maui (we went all the way to the Ohai Valley trail mile marker 41 in west Maui) it's like having your own personal tour guide in the car. Day 1 explored Lahaina, Day 2 explored West Maui, Day 3/4 overnight Road to Hana, Day 5 Kapalua Beach day and feast of Lele luau, Day 6 Haleakalā and upcountry Maui, Day 7 went home :( read more

Booked through RCI extra vacations. And what a delight. Even though it's not on the ocean (right across the stress) but it doesn't disappoint. Clean, spacious one bedroom unit meets all our needs for a vacation getaway. The lighting in the bedroom isn't very good for night reading. The living and dining area are dark during the day so you have to our on the lights. Great full kitchen! We are close to everything like shopping and restaurants. The beach is just across the street with lots of chances to snorkel. The pool and hot tub is wonderful with plenty of chairs. Plenty of parking. Lisa at the office was helpful and kind. I swam with turtles yesterday across the street I couldn't of asked a better trip. We checked in and the place was filthy! The smell of hot oil of previous tenets was more to bear. they sent somebody in to do some more cleaning but they were in here for like three minutes.. really? there is a infestation of what they call water ants. Again they sent someone in to spray and moments later they returned in the same areas the gentleman sprayed. I have found these ants on the walls, floors, bed, in our food which I had tightly closed, and crawling on my body! they are doing remodeling on the floor above us, all day long we hear pounding and pounding and pounding. Why do you ask we don't leave for the day while they are working? my husband is on peritoneal dialysis which keeps us in for some period of time while doing treatments. why did they not consider in the very beginning not to put somebody in this apartment? when I called the front desk and asked about the work they were doing above us and why they didn't put us in a different place she said they had nowhere to put us. Moments later she calls would you like to move? Why did they not put us in that spot to begin with? don't even consider staying at this place even if there was not construction going on the water ants crawling all over you do you want the same thing? Do not book online with this Hotel. I booked in October for February 2nd reservations and my credit card was charged for 2 nights. I have made multiple attempts to cancel my reservation over the last 2 weeks. The front desk could not locate my reservation and told me I needed to call another number to cancel even though they can't locate my reservation. I have called the 800 number provided and placed on indefinite hold 3 times. Then it gives an option to leave a message. When I chose that option the recording states that extension is not available, and then disconnects the call, after I've been on hold for 30 minutes. I have additionally sent 3 emails to the reservation site with no response. I have a copy of the charge on my credit card for 638.00. I realize the hotel outsources to a reservation site, but at this point I believe it is their responsibility to make this right. Now I am left with no other option but to report a fraudulent claim to my credit card company since my card was charged for a service I'm being told does not exist. I will never book with them again and anyone else should be extremely cautious to do the same. read more

Not bad. We were warned about the roosters when making our arrangements and honestly, it wasn't so bad. There were a lot of roosters in San Pablo, so many that they were outlawed. Unfortunately, there were Roosters in the city of Richmond (a block or two away), so we could still hear them. The roosters didn't bother me. I was positive. We stayed at the Maui Banyon last year, which was managed by the same company. And we were getting a one bedroom and not a studio. Anyhow, it was OK. Very basic, we had great accommodations and even though the two bathroom situation was strange (at first), I liked it because I was able to use the master bathroom exclusively, and he used the other one exclusively. That really worked with us. The kitchen was great, we had a great place to cook, we were in building 4 overlooking the pool and the BBQ grills which was fantastic. We were also close enough to the beach, a 5-7 minute walk. I loved it. So, that was good. Now, we were very far from our beloved Kihei and our beloved Makena State Beach. But, I digress...I chose to use this time to get to know another part of the island. It was OK, but in the future Kihei is going to be my go to. Checking in was strange. They have a red phone and I picked it up and it rang and rang, and rang, and rang, and rang, and you get the drill. Nothing. Thank goodness they had a sign with the number for their sister resort and I called them. I must say that it was a little late (around 7 pm) and I find it odd that check out starts at 4, but the office closes at 5, but If I had known that, we would have booked it over there. Our flight got in at 2:00. Also, the woman on the phone sounded as if she was a little ticked off, which would be expected if it were midnight). When I opened the little safe, that our our room key and so on. There were a lot of room keys in the locker, so I knew we weren't the only ones coming in so late (it was past dark), but still. Or maybe I'm spoiled by the Maui Banyon, which has office staff 24 hours. I loved the fact that the lights were on when we went into the room. I was pleased and started to unpack. I used the bathroom, washed my hands and went to the kitchen to start dinner. I went to get some spices from my bag and passed the bathroom and noticed a dead roach. I read through the book that this was a semi-wild tropical area and that creatures could be expected, but I thought it was weird because I didn't step over it when I entered the bathroom. We did leave the living room light on every night. My husband did. I suspect that it was because he was able to make a little friend of his own. The cable went out on our second to last day and I called Time Warner and they totally hooked me up with a second WiFi channel. This was important since it rained on 6 of the 8 days there and the last day it was so rainy, we didn't want to go out. That was also the same day the WiFi stopped working. For some reason the front office is closed on Tuesdays and Fridays. I knew about Tuesday but didn't know about Friday until I braved the downpour to complain about the WiFi. That's when I found out why my messages had going unanswered. I called their sister hotel, the Kohana Sands, and they gave me the Time Warner number. The concierge was a really nice person, but it was exhausting watching her juggle all of the big posters. We got a chance to get a prize, one that my husband didn't want so... We didn't go. The first day of heavy rain, my husband and some other guys went out to BBQ. The gas grills had stopped working. One guy had a lighter but it wasn't working so well. I called the Kohana Sands and they actually sent someone over the fix it. Score - 1! All in all, I liked it, however, I have to say that if I had a choice to go somewhere else, I'd go. Stumbled upon this place on Expedia and was pleasantly surprised at how it exceeded my expectations! It's like renting a condo and makes you feel more at home on the island. We had one main room with a king size bed and it's own bathroom, a living room with a couch bed and another bathroom, a washer and dryer, and a kitchen. The kitchen was incredibly practical if you want to save some time and money on meals but make sure you keep this place clean because you may invite some unwanted house guests. The place is surrounded by nature so obviously there's gonna be bugs if you leave out food etc. The beach is within walking distance (less then a few min down the road) and there's also some nice little food spots close by if you don't want to wander too far. Honestly I'll be coming back to this place because it was absolutely a perfect vacation spot! read more

This is the worst hotel experience I've ever had. 1. The hotel did not provide linens for the beds. 2. The hotel did not provide ample towels for the room. 3. The beds were terrible. We couldn't sleep comfortably. 4. There were bugs in our room and the emergency line refused to give us another room for the night. They didn't care and definitely didn't take the time to check--just claimed that "all rooms and hotels are full." 5. The roosters crow and the dogs how's all day and all night. It doesn't mater what building your in. DO NOT STAY HERE. Update------------ Two hours later and we're stranded outside while the hotel emergency on call staff can't figure out what to do. We stayed at this hotel, in building one's one bedroom for two nights and three days.Included in our hotel amenities were a fold-out bed, two baths, a lanai, full kitchen (including cutlery, utensils, and plates), washer/dryer, dishwasher. I looked forward to coming back to this hotel after each day's adventure.Everything worked fine and appeared clean. The poolside barbecue and jacuzzi were a plus. And we also had the luxury of being located along Napili Coast, which many other people envied because they would park street side to get access to the beach behind the hotel. One thing I didn't like was that they advertised a continental "breakfast" which at other hotels I stayed at were hearty and included a selection of food. At this continental breakfast, they only had a small plate of pastries and one pitcher of POG (passion orange guava juice) for the twenty attendees. They should have taken a head count so there would be enough to go around. On posters, they advertised their continental breakfast, but they should have put more emphasis on their activities presentation because that's what they put more work into. They have a brochure of activities and at the end they usually do a drawing/giveaway for some of the activities, including tickets to the aquarium, tickets to a luau, tickets to a show, etc. Some of us got bored at the presentation that started 15 minutes late and jumped into the pool/jacuzzi which was where the continental breakfast took place.I didn't mind the lateness too much because we were on vacation, and I am used to the Hawaii time:) Another thing I didn't like was that concierge is not 24 hours.It was kind of sketchy because what if we had an emergency?Concierge is closed 3 days out of the week, including on Mondays and Saturdays.Your calls get forwarded to one of their sister hotels within the resort, but these hotels are within driving distance, not walking distance.So, I hope you won't need help from the concierge on their closed days. If you are okay with being awoken by roosters, building one will be alright to stay at.If not, ask to be relocated to another building. The neighbors adjacent to building one have a yard full of roosters that crow at sunrise. I would stay at this hotel again, but I would spend a little more time at the hotel and do some of their free activities (lei-making, garden tours, etc) because they tack on a resort fee. This was the best place to stay! Just a couple minute walk to the best beach on maui! Units are very clean and huge! Also tons of parking! Never had to worry about not having a spot! We stayed here for 7 days and it was great. The rooms are very large. We had one bedroom, 2 baths and a nice sized living room and kitchen. The maids did come by once during our stay. They scheduled it for 3 days into our visit to clean the room and give fresh towels. The room had a full sized fridge which was perfect for us. We were able to go grocery shopping and stock up for the week so we didn't have to eat out every single night! The beach is only a short walk away. Everyday there are cars lined up and down the entire street for people going to the beach! The beach also has a very good restaurant located on it! Very good and cheap happy hour appetizers and drinks. If we come back to visit maui I would definitely stay here again! We really enjoyed our stay. This is one of the older resorts. But for us it's been just fine. We are outside, all day, so I just need a place to lay my head. Last night we swam and BBQ down by the pool. We were the only ones, I guess we are still on CA time. LOL. so it was 7 pm when we went down there. Pitch black with stars galore. PERFECT. What's missing: condiments spices. Others we've been in had some basics like parsley, cinnamon, and others. This one doesn't. Salt and pepper. Powdered creamer and sugar. Also no cleaning supplies, so, you need to get those. But... we are rarely in the room. The bed was ok and the place is neat and clean. Does have a blow dryer. So no need to pack that. I should have called... my bad. And an iron and ironing board. Chicken. Let's talk chickens. They are protected. Not unlike living at home. Very similar. They cluck and crow all hours but we slept with the doors and windows closed anyway. It was too warm to sleep with them open. Weather... it's hot and muggy but the water is fabulous. And with the breezes its outstanding. Our room has a Murphy bed. It wasn't the most comfortable but I have to be honest, there aren't many places that have a bed as comfortable as my own. We ended up napping on the beach so is there really a negative here? Snorkling and napping. Hurray. This really is a prime location for the beginner snorkeler. Right across the street is the beach access. We took our gear down and got our selves used to the whole putting your face in the water yet still breathing thing. Nothing like swimming with angel fish, clown fish and sea turtles. So far we've come back to the room and BBQ at the pool each night. It's a nice way to end totally exhausting days of overwhelming fun in the sun. So over all, I cannot say a five but our trip has been outstanding. So I'm giving it a 4.5 read more

This is our second time staying here because I like Kapalua and I like the amenities at this hotel. I have endured the wild roosters crying at 3AM everyday during my stays. I could hear them even with ear plugs on. This time, we saw 5 roaches in 1 night and had to constantly check for more. After killing one, the others in the nest smelled the poison, came out and started dying. I killed one before sleeping, and then almost stepped on 2 new ones when I got up to use the restroom in the middle of the night. I have poor vision without my glasses so they scared me a lot!!! I spent the rest of the stay wearing slippas although we typically take our shoes off in Hawaii. I made a complaint to the office lady. She said she'd call someone to spray our room. Not sure if they ever came because I saw several more roaches in the following days. I pulled down the bed installed in the wall and found a dead one behind the bed. I live in Hawaii and know that roaches easily infest our dwellings, but this is even worse than my own house. I also understand that they do less cleaning because of COVID. However, this is just beyond what I can tolerate and I don't think I'll come back. read more

Great location for us: adjacent to Kapalua tennis gardens so my hubby could play pick up doubles (the concierge coordinates for you) as well as 4.0+ drills while we were on vacation. The grounds are decently kept, somewhat old school with some spiderwebs around. We stayed in a studio with a Murphy bed, flat screen tv, full kitchen with dishwasher, and shower that has weak shower pressure. Parking was simple and the rates were cheap via hotels.com (which books via Expedia). Free wifi and an old school pool and jacuzzi. Would come back- location was what sold us (15 min to Lahaina and one hour from the airport). read more

This is what island home should feel like. Imbedded in its name (Garden), the townhouse is nestled within a beautiful garden filled with privacy and cozy enough for naps throughout the day. The suite itself is very ordinary but more than enough to feel like it's your own home away from home. The rain hitting the adjacent leaves and branches made for a perfect zen moment to catch up on some Zzz's. I can't wait to come visit again. read more

The Gardens at West Maui is a great budget hotel in an equally great area in Maui! It is located about 15 minutes from Lahaina and only a couple minutes from some great coffee shops and restaurants ... and most importantly, is across the street from a great beach. My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon in October/November 2017. The Gardens might not scream luxury, but honestly in Hawaii you (hopefully) are only in your room to sleep, shower and sometimes eat. Our room had a very comfortable murphy bed, a beautiful outdoor space (great spot to meditate or enjoy a cup of coffee), a full kitchen, and a washer/dryer. It was also very clean, and the staff was friendly and responsive. The night we arrived, we first got to the hotel after hours and no one was working in the office. I got scared at first because it was dark and I was afraid we wouldn't get our keys, but they have a phone outside the office you can use, and when you pick it up they give you a code to open a box to retrieve your room keys/papers/etc. I was thrilled with how easy it was to talk to the staff even if they weren't on premises. Also, a couple side notes, the plumeria near the parking lot smell amazing and the roosters were definitely audible, but didn't bother us. In fact, it was nice to have a wake up call so we didn't sleep the day away. If you are visiting Hawaii and value affordability, comfort and cleanliness but don't need super luxurious frills, this is the place for you. The room itself was fine. Just fine. It was nice to have a full kitchen and a washer & dryer. The place looked like apartments. We were upstairs and there is no elevator. It's not that we can't handle a flight of stairs but "moving" in and out was a hassle. Beach across the street was great! My issue...the roosters!!! There must be dozens near by that spend their time trying to be "top-dog". The crowing starts before sun up and doesn't end until sun down. Sleep was impossible. I would have moved if we could. If you want to lay out by the pool and have servers bring you a Mai Tai while you read a book, then this is not the place for you. However, if you want a clean, comfortable place with a full kitchen to prepare to-go meals while you're out all day exploring Maui and then come back exhausted, lay your head down and sleep comfortably, then this just might be the place for you. Located at the South end of Kapalua and across a lazy two lane road from a short 6 minute walk to Napili Bay Beach and a 9 minute walk to Kapalua Bay Beach (both of which were named #1 beach on all of Hawaii by Dr. Beach on different years) as well as facing the Kapalua Golf Course, this is a great place to stay. Other reviews mention the sound roosters crowing in the morning (true) which can be heard especially from Building 1, a $2 pair of earplugs alleviates that only drawback. Actually, being awakened early by the roosters is a good thing because it means you'll get an early start to your Maui activities. The Gardens sit near the foot of the Kapalua Coastal Trail which is a fairly easy, mostly level trail walk to and through some of the most lavish and expensive resorts on Maui (the Montague for example) as well as a Meditation Maze. Great local restaurants are nearby including one of our favorites, Miso Phat for sushi. Stay here and enjoy much Aloha. read more

Stayed here with our timeshare. We were in building 3. We could hear the roosters but it wasn't too horrible. I think building 1 would have it the worst. The pool is nice even though we didn't use it much. This hotel is right across the street from the beach. It was so nice to not have to get in the car to go. The activities were fun. We made Lei's and had Ukulele lessons. Room was clean and had everything we needed. read more

Just stayed here again. This place is a pretty good timeshare exchange. Just across the street from Napili bay. Rooms are fine and well stocked with whatever you will need, including a few ants and yes the chickens nearby. But big deal. Reyna at the front desk is super friendly and helpful. I'm giving Gardens at West Maui 5 stars because I've had the of my life here, but that's not to say there aren't some cons. Here are the details: Not the most modern room, but we didn't mind- it was clean and stocked. WIFI included. The kitchen has all the items you'd need- including paper towels, salt & pepper, stuff to clean the dishes, and basic kitchen ware. Laundry soap included as well. We had a great back yard that our 4 yr old loved adventuring in, finding all sorts of island reptiles, flowers and birds. The pool is simple, but clean, hot tub was great, and the two grills made grilling at our place easy peasy. The front desk help was absolutely amazing, and being across the street from Sea House restaurant, Napili beach & Kapalua- there were lots of easy walking distance fun stuff to get into. Both beaches were perfect for snorkeling with our daughter. We saw TWO sea turtles! It was amazing. The cons: THE FLIPPING CHICKENS SQWAK AT ALL HOURS OF THE DAY like a gd chicken farm. The noises you could simply not make up, they're so loud and consistent. Thanks to the rooster, we were woken up bright and early at 5am on both days of our stay. Another con, they power washed their sidewalks and pool on one of our two days- which of course they don't mention when you reserve your room. The pool was unavailable until 4pm. I get it, it's a business, but these vacations are once in a lifetime for some people. Tell them- they/we deserve it. All of that being said, I would absolutely recommend them to any one that I know. At the gardens as we speak... everything is good so far. Plenty of parking, room is clean. There are a few bugs in the kitchen but I think that's pretty normal and nothing you help. It's all clean so idk why they're there. The roosters next door are so so intense... There has Rio be at least a couple and it's constant crowing. They can't control what goes on outside their property though so not going to knock them for it. I would just recommend ear plugs while you sleep... problem solved!! read more

We stayed there during Christmas last year for 4 nights. This is a very homely place for budget traveler families. The 1 BR suit was very clean, had 2 bath, fully equipped kitchen, living and dining space. The Napili beach is just across the road and Kapalua is 7 min walk. I would highly recommend to someone who is not looking for in-expensive and not sea facing resort living in Maui. The Manager was awesome. Thanks for making our stay so comfortable. read more

Room is decent. Old furnishings, steep stairwell if you get the second floor. Feels like an old apartment complex. Take caution: there are no elevators if you are disabled or just can't do stairs. I'm used to resort settings so checking in by using a telephone in the front office was a new experience. Roosters are NO joke! They crow early morning hours and they can be noisy at night, scared my 4 year old coming out of the car. LOL. Had problems logging into WiFi so we had to call time Warner Cable and they didn't even know what the problem was. My husband finally figured it out on his own. Felt like this place was a "your on your own" type of deal. I would not stay here again. read more

This timeshare looks better on its web marketing than in reality. As this is to be expected, the location on the Kapalua golf course is deceptive. Two of the buildings back up to the course's driving range and you're looking through the protective net. The oddest thing is it adjoins a lot with a ramshackle house having many chickens, including several constantly crowing rosters, even during evening hours. The chickens roam the property and coming begging with chicks onto the lanais. The good part is the resort's location directly across a narrow road from Napili Resort and the beach- beautiful. The restaurant on the beach is quite good with moderate prices. We ate there often during our stay. There's a nice pool over the fence from the rosters. This place appears to be built in the 70's with no updating. I won't go into the problems with the toilet in the joint bathroom. but the attempt to "fix" it using a tank lid from another toilet instead of a complete replacement caused problems. read more
