No food and only 1beer brand on tap the night I was there. Will never go back! Overcharged my tip was changed by the house

You won't find this place unless you're a local or know someone. A small hockey themed bar inside a historic house near Kirkwood Park. A one of a kind dive bar that is great for Blues games. Originally a filling station in 1904, it converted into a tavern in the 1930's. Grandfathered with local liquor licensing, TGI almost went extinct in 2010 when longtime owner Frank Rodman passed away (RIP). In 2012 it was purchased by former Blues hockey player Jim Campbell and his wife, Jennifer (a Kirkwood native), who did a thorough refresh and renovation. Jennifer's great uncle actually owned the tavern earlier in the 1960s, so it was a natural return to the family. They have a full bar with reasonably priced drinks. Didn't see a food menu (need to confirm cause looks like maybe they used to) but bar snacks (pretzels and chips). Someone ordered pizza delivered which seemed like a good option. The vibe is like you are inside a house, with couches and a fireplace. They have a small back patio to enjoy nice weather and they do allow smoking outside. For games, there's Golden Tee, a jukebox, and steel tip dart board (which was kinda blocked by Golden Tee). If you happen to be in Kirkwood and feeling thirsty, check it out. Me and my buddy's went to the geyer inn to celebrate a 21st birthday celebration and had a HORRIBLE experience. We walked in and my friend who is 21 (and has a valid MO ID) went to the bar and asked for 2 shots. he was told that they don't serve people with vertical IDs and that this was NOT a dive bar... I then asked for 2 shots and handed the alleged "owner" who was bartending, my valid Military ID and was told that they don't serve out of state IDs. i told her that i am in the military and this is not a out of state ID and was very loudly told "WE DON'T SERVE THE MILITARY." We started walking out she told us to "GET THE F*CK OUT." Its a shame they lost all of our business for good after this extremely unprofessional unwarranted experience. I DO NOT recommend this bar if you are a military member, a valid divers license holder, or to anyone who doesn't want to get yelled at for trying to support a local business and have a good time. They need to get rid of that "owner" who was bartending. She is losing this establishment business and tarnishing the name of the bar. read more

My father and husband went here and had a bad experience with the bartender/owner. Right off the bat she was rude to my father. She judged him on his looks and said some pretty nasty things to him that I am having a hard time sitting with. He was a paying customer at this establishment and this was how he was treated. read more

This place could be awarded the rudest bar in the Midwest. The reputation is rude bartenders and rude workers. They simply don't t care about their patrons. Do yourself a favor and don't waists your time or money in this dump unless you want to be treated poorly. This bar is supposed to be a classic hole in the wall, great neighborhood location, and easy gathering spot for a couple drinks with friends. There is truly so much potential and we were excited to stop in for a drink the other night. Our night quickly shifted when we reached the bar and started ordering drinks. The bartender was blunt, which was fine whatever maybe having a bad night. Unfortunately, turns out she's just a mean person. We felt so unwelcome after ordering one drink. She called us high maintenance for our orders (vodka water lime, beer). Threatened our friend "if she has a problem she can leave" because my friend made a weird face when she said "you only get one straw". After we left we took a look at reviews and seems this establishment has had these same 2 women running their bar for 11 years in the same manner. Two of our reviews were taken down so I guess they like to screen which bad reviews can remain up. Hoping this reaches you before you step into the bar and save you from getting bullied for ordering a drink.... In a bar.... From a bartender.... Ps don't ask for a lime they don't have fruit and they'll be pissed you asked a silly question like that! I never leave reviews because I typically consider bad service to be a fluke but I had to edit this post to share the passive aggressive response I received from posting this review. Worst bar ever. Bartender thought we were underage even though we were 21. She circled back to our table and harassed us talking about how she's been through this before being a "teacher". She said "I'm not here to babysit" as we were being the most mild mannered and quiet people in the bar. She was suspicious of our ID's as well, because some were vertical as well as horizontal. She couldn't grasp that you can be 21 with a vertical ID if it hasn't expired. Never would go back again horrible experience. read more

My friends and I are freshly 21, and we were looking forward to trying a new bar close to our houses. However, when we entered and showed we were eager to try new drinks, the bartender acted clueless. She told us we should "probably try somewhere else," even though we were excited to hangout and drink together after a semester apart. This place is super cool - it's a nice little dive bar in the middle of Kirkwood. Plenty of parking across the street at the pool, which is nice. It is a tough spot to access, but like I said, just park across the street and you should have no issues. It does feel very dive-y if you like that. Bartenders are super casual, lots of regulars sitting around. They don't keep the bar totally stocked, so you get what you see, and that's it. Nothing fancy. Drinks are heavy pours and cheap prices, which is awesome. The real kicker is the back though - they have a HUGE fenced in backyard that is dog friendly. It is AMAZING. They have turf, grass, trees, dirt, and mulch. There were probably 6-7 dogs at a time at all times, which was so fun. Lots of people and regulars chit chatting, and plenty of seating for everyone. We went at happy hour timing on a Friday and it wasn't super crowded at all. They don't have food, but don't care if you bring some - we had pizza and cookies and it was perfect. Karen was extremely rude. I was told by regulars that management does not do check-ups on their employees, but they need to check up on Karen. She was extremely rude toward us because we were young and demanded we pay her for being young ...... I am afraid that is illegal. She demanded our designated drivers drink. She is clearly incompetent and is allergic to customer service. She questioned why some of our ID's were horizontal and some were vertical. If you are going to be a bartender at a bar, I would think you should be able to understand that there can be a vertical ID still at the age of 21 and not question and be rude to customers because you didn't want to give business to us. If you thought we were underage, call the police. Do not treat us like trash. And she also served us when she didn't believe we were 21??? Pick a struggle. As well, she stated she did not want to "babysit us" even though we were sitting and talking quietly (we were scared to be louder). She also insulted our appearances on our ID photo. I don't come to the bar to be insulted, harassed, and chirped for being young out the door. She also said we "made a mess" when we got four drinks total and stacked the empties for an easy bus. She may have been on drugs? I honestly can't comprehend. She said she works solely for tips and I hit her with a nice $0.00 because she literally tried to fear-monger us into tipping. Where do I start. My late father was the biggest fan of this place and I believe even knew the owner, and since my friends and I are finally 21, we thought we'd check it out and have a nice evening. Unfortunately, what we got was quite the opposite. 4 of my friends went to the bar to get a drink and were met with Karen, who questioned the validity of their IDs (every bartender should know that 21-year-olds can have vertical IDs), insulted one of my friend's appearance (asked where her tan went), and then served 2 of my friends the wrong beer because the one they ordered seemed to be too much of a hassle. Soon after, Karen approached our table, where we were quietly sitting, and questioned my friend and I because we weren't getting drinks. We were designated drivers. She didn't like this answer, and told us that she needed the tips. She also said she doesn't "babysit". The 4 friends who were drinking decided to finish their singular drinks quickly so we could get out of there ASAP. On our way out, Karen shouted "see you guys in a year when you graduate". My friend decided to walk back in to get the owner's number because we had all had enough of the disrespect. He politely asked for their number, and was met with more rude remarks and absurdity. He told Karen she was being rude to all of us, and she admitted to it, saying it's because we "left a mess" (there was no mess) and because two of us didn't get a drink (we were DD's). After he explained we were DDs, she suggested we should've stayed home and picked the drinking friends up later. If you don't drink or even aren't planning on drinking for one evening, don't come to the Geyer Inn. Extremely disappointed by this experience and safe to say I won't be coming back. THE 5 Diamond award in Kirkwood. Owned by former blues champion #10 Campbell. I did not expect to like this place as much as I did. I just felt real comfortable here. Like it was our bar. Maybe it has to do with the restauranteur Wayne. The people in the bar remind me of my visit to Cork, Ireland. Fun stories, funny wit, funnier personalities, and the funnest time I have had in a while. They told me about a place opening up called J.P. Fields gonna check that out. Worst experience EVER in a bar!! 4/20/23 my friend and I were meeting up with people that were currently in attendance. When we came in she asked to scan our ID by an elder woman. I gave her my id yet she could not figure out how to scan my id, I've never had this at any other bars in the area. Our friend that were already there had approached the bar to order during the scanning fiasco. They were confused because they weren't carded when they first entered. We were told that our cards weren't scanning so we couldn't drink. We were fine with that and settled for water and joined the rest of the group outside. Again I was drinking water and maybe 15 mins later the elder bartender came outside saying that we need to leave, she then proceeds to snatch my cup out of my hand whilst it was near my mouth. At that point I felt threatened, she entered my personal area threateningly. This is and was completely uncalled for. Never had I been denied to sit in a bar to enjoy the company when I am drinking water nor do I appreciate the disrespect for this bartender who goes 0-100 to begin to take items out of someone's hand to prove a point. Need to hire better staff who has a better eye for technology and can respect the customers. read more

A client of mine lives in the neighborhood and took us here after we left our first after dinner bar. This place is a total dive. They seem to be remodeling and have construction crap everywhere. Totally added to the charm. The bartender was friendly and poured strong drinks. I ordered 2 captain and cokes and a beer and gave the bartender $10 and I got change back. I did this multiple times throughout the evening. There is a dartboard and a jukebox to jam out to. A great neighborhood bar. I'll be back for sure. read more

I am extremely happy with this establishment as it's character, service & venue are what make it so special. The loose atmosphere fosters open conversation, so-much-so that we now have weekly meetings here. Karen provides the highest grade of service and I feel strongly that our ability to cover in-depth topics and resolve problems is maximized. This place may be considered a 'dive bar' but we call it our 'board room.' Having said this, if you want a wine spritzer, you may want to go elsewhere. read more

The Geyer Inn is back in business and better than ever. After being closed for more than 2 years, new owner Jim "Soup" Campbell has opened the perfect neighborhood bar in Kirkwood. My family stopped in Friday might, and we had such a great time that we got a sitter the next night so we could get back there for a night out. The interior has been completely redone, and includes a good size bar, plenty of tables, a great jukebox, and eve some classic tabletop PacMan games. The Geyer Inn is extremely family friendly, not only welcoming your kids, but also having their kids in there from time to time as well. My friends came with me from out of state. Tried to order a bud seltzer and they said "are you fucking kidding me?" They wouldn't even look at their ID because they weren't from MO. When they tried to explain they were visiting me they said "yeah so is every other underaged person". We're 23. They refused to look at my MO ID. read more

Very disappointing, thought this was going to be a cool hang out but the beer was warm & it seemed to attract a trashy, rough former high school hero 50+ crowd. My husband and I have been waiting for this place to open since we live so close. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed when we stopped by for a drink. Upon entering, we noticed a bunch of school-aged kids running around inside and outside, as well as, behind the bar...it was nearly 10 pm. We sat at the bar and waited for about 10 minutes to be waited on...which never happened. The bartender (who we think was one of the owners) waited on some ladies next to us, looked directly at us and then turned around and walked away. Absolutely no acknowledgement whatsoever...not even an "I'll be right with you." As far as logistics, the interior has been redone; however, it is lacking the charm that the exterior suggests. The tap beer selection is limited to strictly Budweiser products...none of those fabulous St. Louis craft beers in sight. Hopefully, the next owners can bring it back to its original glory. read more
