Holy smokes, literally! I should have dug deeper into the reviews to see that this is a smoking bar. It has to be one of the last few in the area, sort of like me having a Blackberry in 2012. I saw they were open late, had pool tables, and were equidistant for my bestie and me to meet up. So I am doing y'all a solid and letting you non-smokers like myself know that this IS a smoking bar.So, back to my experience. Brad was my bartender. He introduced himself and probably saw me dying inside, but I stayed since my bestie was on her way, and it was her birthday, and I wanted her opinion on next steps should she want to leave. He bought her first drink, which was really sweet! I didn't take any pics of anything because we immediately went outside to imbibe on their patio in 50-degree weather. I met some amazing people that night: Derek, Steve, and Jack, who were all regulars and had known each other since they were kids. That sort of friendship is rare and to be cherished, as my bestie and I have known each other since we were 11. I met another lady at the end of the night who worked there too. Unfortunately I did not read the reviews before going- nothing wrong with a dive bar and the staff was nice but we couldn't handle the cigarette smoke. Only stayed for one drink and promptly left. Cool atmosphere though. read more

I've been here one other time before and had a BLAST! This place is definitely a local bar, which I loved. Everyone around us was ordering food so we figured it was good. Well, it was pretty darn amazing! Probably some of the best bar food I've had in a while. They have pool tables and shuffle board for anyone looking for some bar games. Very local dive bar that hasn't been updated in 20+ years. Food was good. Still one of the few bars around that allow smoking. The pricing was very fair which is good to see since so many have raised their pricing through the roof!! The crowd was friendly to newcomers and the service was good. It's like Maplewood's Cheers. Friendly crowd that gets into the sports games and makes for a fun atmosphere on game day. I love the classic feel of the bar and comfy bar stools. There's a room with two pool tables that's not as smokey as the main bar area. Shuffleboard table and darts are available, too. The bartenders make a good strong drink and are run a tight ship, ensuring everyone gets what they need in a prompt manner. Basic burgers and fries that pair well with beer, although the chicken I would not recommend or order again. Smoking bar so if that's your thing, great, but I always have to take a shower after imbibing here. read more

Was on a small Club ride last night stopped at this place that is not one of our normal stops to have a beer and finish the night up . I bought a couple of beers and tipped the bartender then went outside to have a smoke and wait on a couple other companions to show up. Upon re-entry into the bar we had our beers confiscated was accused of bringing alcohol in from an outside source but yet we rode up on bicycles and two motorcycles no backpacks . Apparently the bartender/ owner was intoxicated and rude !!!! This could have been handled in a much better way at this point St Louis motorized bike club and any of its affiliates will not spend any money at this bar or have anything positive to say ... Bad business and shame on you , you lost money and possibly future business read more

I always found this to be a decent place to unwind after a-day at work. But the other night I witness something. And frankly I'll never go back. I'm not really sure why it was handled so badly. But the management/owner needs to take a refresher course in customer service. There were some customers there that bought a couple of beers. And because they went outside to meet their friends and came back in. The same battender that sold them the beers confiscated them and made a scene. Trying to make it appear that they were bringing outsiders liquor into their business and jeopardizing their liquor license. What? Do you need to get your hand stamped or something to step outside? People go outside all the time. Are you a prisoner to the bar unable to step out if so inclined? It was just ridiculous how it was handled. The men were on bicycles they didn't even have a backpack or means to carry liquor to this establishment. I mean the beers were still obviously sweaty and cold! The same bartender that sold the beers to them must have been drunk. Claimed they didn't remember selling them to him. If this is how you handle a squabble I'd rather go somewhere else. You will lose a lot of business if you can't admit when you're wrong and the establishment was clearly in the wrong. Part of being a bartender is knowing your crowd. Seems like they're sampling their own product to much and forgetting customers always come first. read more

Dive bar to the max. Super friendly staff, cheap food (big portions!) and drinks, pool table etc, and local folks. They have a party room in the back. Service is pretty fast. They do still allow smoking so keep that in mind if that's an issue for you. read more

I accidentally spilled a drink here (I've worked at a bar and realize this happens fairly often) and would have been happy to clean it up if given a rag. Instead the bartender came over and told my group we were idiots for standing there. Once again I would have cleaned it up but at the same time would think they are used to cleaning up spilled drinks every once in awhile. The entire time the bartender was wiping it up she yelled at and verbally assaulted those who I was with even though they did nothing. After it was cleaned up she continued to ridicule us and stare at us in a way that made us very uncomfortable so we left. While waiting outside she STILL kept poking her head outside making us even more uncomfortable. The staff at Foley's clearly hate their lives and try to bring others down with them. I thought I knew about every bar in St. Louis, but I'd never even heard of Foley's until a friend suggested it to me yesterday. This is my kind of place. Unpretentious. Cheap drinks. Friendly bartenders. Hidden deep in Maplewood next to some railroad tracks. This is an Angela kinda place. Foley's is a good place to: - Play some free shuffleboard - Play some $1 pool - Play Big Buck Hunter!!!! - DAY DRINK - Bring your uncle or dad Foley's is not a good place to: -Wear nice clothes. Fantastic little dive bar! My fiancée and I decided to go on a walk the other night and ended up at Foleys. We got there and were immediately greeted by the bartender, although I'm totally blanking on her name. Drinks were good (and cheap!) they did a shift change and the next bartender, Kate was just as sweet. Ordered some food also good (and cheap!) For what it is, Foley's rocks my socks off. It's a shitty, smokey, grungy dive bar. The best kind around the area, if I may say so myself. Foley's has shuffle board, two pool tables, darts, and Big Buck Hunter. They also have pitchers of beer for $6 and a sassy bartender to serve it up. Non-smokers will not be able to handle the fumes, but for everyone else, it's a great affordable little dive to bring a group. read more

Well anyone that knows me knows that I love my Foley's! My husband and I frequent this place at least twice a month. And my coworkers and I meet up there quite a bit for happy hour, which cannot be beat in price. The bartenders are all great... a special shout out to Jules and Katie! This is a laid-back bar where you will see a wide variety of folks and are able to drink and eat cheap, but really well! The fries are freaking awesome and I personally recommend dipping them in the honey mustard...it's magical. I prefer being there during the week, as sometimes the crowd is a little younger on the weekends. It is a smoky place, so be prepared to wake up with cigarette hair, but I consider this as part of it's charm. read more

If you aren't a smoker, you are coming to the wrong place. You WILL walk out of here smelling like a pack of Marlboros and will have lost a week off your life expectancy. We all deserve a few vices though, and Foley's delivers. With that being said, I had a sneaky good time here. A great hole in the wall spot, with high ceilings that opens the place up. A great juke box to keep ya company, and a fantastic bar burger that is competitively delicious. 7 TVs to allow viewership of your favorite event and a 1:30 closing time to get that late night last round in. We gathered here for a friends birthday and it was an a-ok place to hang if you're into the dive bar type setting. Its situated in Maplewood across from the railroad tracks. You will see trains come by the entire night. It is small. The tables are typical bar tables and the chairs are falling apart so don't expect a comfortable seat. Foley's has shuffle board, two pool tables, darts, the golf game and the hunter game. The bartenders are nice and helpful. Smoking is still allowed inside so be prepared to smell like it once you leave. read more

This is one of those, hard to find, hole in the wall bars. It has a new addition on the side that has a pool table and a couple of games. The bartenders are great, and pour a great drink. It went smoke free back with the new regulations last year and I enjoy going in here much more often. I also stop in on a regular basis for lunch. They have a great simple tasty menu. The burgers are really good. It's a basic bar menu but has a great local appeal. The weekend nights can get pretty busy and is certainly standing room only most of the times. So, I have a...friend...who is a part of a running/drinking club that meets every Wednesday night. A few weeks ago, this friend was responsible for picking the location of the after party. Because after running 5+ miles, nothing quenches the thirst better than an ice cold beer. At least that's what my...uh...friend...says. I wouldn't know. Me? Drink? Nahhhh. After weighing some options in Maplewood, I...I mean, my FRIEND...decided that Foley's would be a good location to keep the party going. It was perfect. Location? Maplewood -- stumbling distance home. For my friend. Not me. Food? Plentiful. Served till midnight. Cheap. Beer? $5 pitchers. Need I say more? According to my friend, Foley's also has karaoke on Wednesday nights. And I heard that she and her group of 20+ sweaty runner buddies rocked the mic RIGHT with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" while the bar's regulars cheered them on. Yeah...it's THAT kind of place. You know...according to my friend. It's not like I was there or anything. Me? Drunkenly karaoke-ing? Hah. Never. NEVER! So yeah. Apparently this Foley's place is pretty freaking AWESOME. Used to come here all the time way back in the day but got reacquainted over the past year or so. Katie Foley is the best. She knew what I was drinking by the third visit and has always been polite. The atmosphere is pretty cool and filled with people of all ages and walks of life. Easy-going and laid back. It is smokey for sure, but sometimes you need a smokey bar that doesn't judge you and allows you to just have "a night." Great drink prices and the food is good too. If you're uptight and whiny please do not go here- You're waaaaaaay too high maintenance and you'll just be that 'in-the-way' person that is a total boner-killer. read more

Foley's is not for the faint of heart. If you are the type that likes to be molly-coddled, please go somewhere else. These people put their heart and soul into this place- I've never been to any place that embraces it's patrons like family members like this bar does. I get a "hey hon!" every time. All walks of life converge here for a pint. Old vets, hippies (old and young), white collars, blue-collars, alternatives, bankers, musicians, writers, artists, admen, college kids, whistful 30-somethings, your mum, your dad, your dog, tough chicks, philosophers, drop-outs- it's magical. I miss the old jukebox, but if you play some Zeppelin on the new one- EVERYONE WILL SING AND CRY TEARS OF GUINNESS. Your plain T-shirt will transform into an awesome wolf howling at the moon t-shirt, and your partner will look a billion-times hotter. I think you should go.
