Last week, my husband and I finally made our first lunch visit to the Glade Diner in Gladeville, and it completely lived up to the small town buzz. The parking lot was packed and every table was full when we walked in, which is usually a great sign. The gal at the front desk let us know there would be a short wait, and sure enough, about 10 minutes later we were seated. We overheard that they were short staffed due to a callout, but honestly, you would not have known it from how smoothly things were moving. Our waitress was incredibly kind and welcoming, and she got our order in quickly despite juggling multiple tables. My husband went with the hot club sandwich and fries, and I ordered the chicken salad sandwich with onion rings. Let me just say, the food came out fast and absolutely delivered. My husband's sandwich had that picture perfect cheese pull moment that you hope for but rarely get, and it tasted just as good as it looked! My chicken salad was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. And the onion rings truly stole the show. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, lightly seasoned, and just the right texture with every bite. Easily some of the best I have ever had. It is easy to see why this place stays busy. The Glade Diner has that classic, well-loved feel where good food and friendly service come together in the best way. It's the kind of spot that makes you want to come back again and again just to work your way through the menu. We are already looking forward to our next visit. read more

Now frying in beef tallow...so more limiting for pescatarians and vegetarians. Fried catfish was good though. And really, you can't expect turnip greens not to have some type of meat. The food is delicious, atmosphere quaint, price reasonable. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We ordered the main dish for the evening and it took over 30 minutes to get it. We were surprised because all the dishes were already cooked. When we got ready to pay the cashier she was on 2 personal calls and held up an index finger for us to wait. Finally had a day to drive out here and what an adorable spot. Has quaint touches with a simple set up that still comes off elevated from a basic-greasy-spoon diner in a manner that is great quality and a feeling of home. Menu has some standard fare but others with some twists. When the food came out, it had clear quality. For starters, food was diner quick, hot, but fresh like it didn't come just out of a freezer and fryer. The food was EXTREMELY temperature hot. The fried green tomatoes had a great crunch to them with solid breading & strong black pepper seasoning to it but needed a bit to cool enough to eat. Tried the pimento cheese chicken bacon sandwich which appeared as a menu standout. The bread for this was incredible. Sadly, the pimento cheese was too minimal; it was hard to tell it was even on it as there was no cheese flavor at all, and couldn't even see any which had seemingly melted entirely like i wouldn't imagine possible for it. I could tell there was something on the bread and a few small pieces of what looked like pimento but no flavor. Small miss as there was a lot of good. The tots were super crunchy and black peppered like the fried green tomatoes. Service was great and friendly - my drink was never empty! This place is like walking in to your granny's kitchen. The food they serve is just like your momma or grandmas food, desserts included. I have tried several of their entrees and desserts and highly recommend anything on the menu. The only BAD thing about this place is they are just 5 minutes from my house. The service it top notch and they servers as well as cooks are friendly. The place gets really elbow to elbow at high lunch but, more than likely it someone's elbow you know or have rubbed up against at a prior visit. The takeaway here is if you are in "The Glade" come on and seat down and eat a great meal. And definitely order the hot fudge cake. read more

The Glade Diner serves great southern food in a small crossroads town outside Nashville. An overworked server is engaging and magically gets everything done. A basic dining area is decorated with great care. When you want to leave you go right up to the cashier who has your tab on record. Top notch flavors on all the dishes. (Yes, I ate my vegetables.) An entire shelving unit is dedicated to sauces and toppings to accompany your meal. Parking in front is limited, go through the alley and there is parking in back. Bonus tip: take your receipt next door to the ice cream/coffee shop (discount) for a treat if you don't have a desert with your dinner. read more

We came here because part of our group went earlier in the week and said the service and food were outstanding- 5 stars! Came in today for catfish and shrimp. I mixed it up with grilled shrimp and fried catfish. The Star of the meal were the grilled shrimp- great flavor and good color-the catfish filet I had was pretty thin and a lot of breading in some parts. I like a lighter, meatier catfish. I may have gotten a skinny piece. Hushpuppies were homemade and delicious. The fudge pie was homemade. The things that were made in house, were perfect. The items that were not have a hard time standing up to the house made items. What threw me for a loop though- the tartar sauce. It tasted like it had pumpkin pie spice in it or something. It really wasn't my thing but I definitely feel like it's someone signature and you love it or don't. Otherwise. the shrimp were cooked perfectly and the fudge pie was outstanding. The small diner in Gladeville had a nice local feel to it. Return customers that exchanged hugs, great casual service and lots of conversations. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. The meal came out within 10 minutes and looked very good. Good amount of fries that had a splash of pepper and some kick to them. They looked good and tasted great. The cheeseburger was about a 1/3 lb patty, but was slightly pink and was moist. The fixings were plentiful and tasted fresh. The bun was moist and brioche style so it had a nice look and texture. For a 1/3 lb patty, it was a solid meal. I give them a solid 4 stars and it was worth the 40 minute drive. read more

The food was delicious! Hamburger steak with gravy, onions & mushrooms, mac and cheese, turnip greens, fried okra and corn bread. The okra could've been fried just a tad less, it was kind of crunchy, but overall it was all still delicious! Cute little restaurant, very country like. Reason for the 3 stars and not 5 stars is I literally felt like the unwelcomed step child here. The server never came over to my table after delivering my meal. At first I was the only customer and then a regular came in and sat down. The server sat down with what I believe was maybe the husband of the cook and she started eating. They sat at the table next to the regular customer and just started chatting. The cook (maybe owner) came over and started chatting with them as well. I literally felt like I was sitting at a family gathering where I wasn't invited. It was a very unwelcomed and awkward feeling. What a hidden little gem tucked away in Gladeville! I grew up in a small town and this place reminds me of the local diner back home. As soon as you walk in the door, the smell of fried chicken penetrates your nose, clothes, and hair! We were greeted by our server and told to take a seat anywhere we like. She was very attentive and filled up our drinks several times. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries, my husband got the special of the night - meatloaf with 2 sides and cornbread. And our 14 year old got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures because we were starving. But, I'll be back again! Holy wowzer! If you ever come to Nashville and don't drive a bit east to this place you have made a mistake. Come enjoy some amazing Tennessee comfort food at its best. We made sure to order a variety of veggies so we could share and sample more flavors. Every thing we ate was delicious. Their roast beef and fried pork tenderloin were incredible! Have you ever eaten a meal where your eyes roll back in your head because it was so good? This was it! I'm glad it was our last lunch here because we wouldn't have sampled more places. Finally tried Glade Diner after driving by it for a while. Went 2 days in a row. First day, I had a cheeseburger and fries. While I was waiting, a lady dropped of an order of fried mushrooms and asked "did I want these", YUUP and glad I did. They were good. Very large portion of fries and the burger was good. Honestly, I've had a better burger but it was fine. I however, have never had chicken & dumplings as good as I had the 2nd day. OMG, incredible meal. The mashed potatoes were (I believe?) real and the fried okra was again, the best I've ever had. Cornbread was special as well. Split a piece of peanut butter pie and it too was homemade and very good. I cannot recommend this place any higher, it will be a definate every time I am in that area. Glade Diner is a gem of a restaurant. This little town called Glade is off 840 and Stewart's Ferry. The reason i give this restaurant a four is the bacon is very thin so why not give 3 pieces. We were in the mood for a good country breakfast after staying overnight with some friends in Mt. Juliet and The Glade seemed like it would fit the bill. Well, it kind of did. Service was friendly but sparse--this is the first time I've eaten in a diner where I wasn't offered a coffee (or water) refill even once and so I sat with an empty cup of each for the last half of my meal. Also--while you get real cups for coffee they use styrofoam for water and everything else. I know they probably have a diswasher as they have real plates so I'd suggest they look at plastic cups too (that styrofoam never goes away and cost efficiency in the long run should steer them to reusables). Also, they were out of some breakfast items by 9am which was a bit odd. Anyway, food--the bacon appears to be the microwaved pre-cooked variety, the gravy seems like a pre-mixed pack (it may not be though), and the biscuits look wonderful but taste average. On the other hand the home fries were crispy and delicious and the eggs were cooked perfect to order (over easy in my case, over well in my wife's) and really good. The coffee--while it lasted--was strong and good. The pies, lunch options, sandwiches, etc. all look really good and the price is hard to beat. With just a few changes this could be a 4 star country diner. read more

If you are out here in Gladeville this is a must stop! Every Monday they serve roast beef, it is the best roast beef I've ever had in restaurant. Got it made in the Glade! Well life on the farm is kinda laid back. Wait, don't live on a farm, but thank God I'm (now) a country boy! Fine dining options are rare in the Glade - any dining options are rare in The Glade! But, the ones that ARE there are great. Moved to the area a couple of months ago 2 days after I retired and spending most of my time doing renovations so I have been eating out a lot - since I found the Glade diner - a lot more. Different "signature" dishes daily along with choices available every day. One of my favorites is the hamburger steak with mushroom onion gravy with mashed potatoes and green beans. They are only open Monday-Friday for breakfast and lunch. I have only eaten breakfast there once and the pancakes are really good and large. Server wouldn't let me over order - she was right. Cobblers, pies, hot fudge cake - with ice cream. Friday is fish day and is usually crowded. So much so that I was dining alone and the owner asked if I wouldn't mind sharing my table - sure! Long story short - made a new friend and enjoyed great conversation with a "neighbor" I otherwise would not have met. read more

As I've said many, many times. These are truly the establishments I love. The off the beaten path places you don't necessarily expect to have good food. Walking in, the owner greeted me instantly and gave me mamy, many food options. I'm a little boring so I went with an egg and cheese biscuit and a banana. The biscuit was really, really good. And I mean, a banana is a banana. As I sat down, a flow of people came in and out, and she seemed to know them all. She sat down with me for a few minutes to chat and proceeded to tell me about their lunch and dinner offerings. They have traditional food as well as asian food such as pad Thai and stir fry.
