This place is a little hidden gem inside Glen Ellyn. It's so whimsical and beautiful and there are so many trinkets and jewelry. It's also not expensive so you can walk away without spending too much. The makeup products here are also so good!!!! But honestly, it's worth just coming and at least looking around :) Michael is also the owner and is always the cashier and he's so pleasant. Very informative about all of the products there, especially because he owns the makeup line!!! I will say there is no photography allowed inside and it is a pretty quiet store with lots of trinkets and decorations everywhere, even in the ceiling and on the floor. There is ZERO pressure to purchase, simply to peruse his found treasures and to feel special. First time coming here, can't hear browsing all the stores in the Glen Ellyn area with a wife. Please be aware, we were told not to take any photos inside the store. It seems like looking at the photos on Yelp that there are plenty of photos from inside the store. This store had a great, imaginative selection of beauty products, jewelry, accessories, clothing and small decor. It's astounding to read the couple of negative reviews here. I've visited Michael at The Gnome Colony many times, yesterday as well, (and yes, through our interactions we have become fast friends) and it was an amazing experience, as always. The place is simply magical and something that should be experienced. It is a place of whimsical fantasy and wonder where people can temporarily escape to a place of happiness...and yes, there is a large sign on the door. Like many stores that have, 'you break it, you buy it' posted, or 'no video or photography allowed,' or, 'no refunds,' The Gnome Colony's is there for a reason. Many of the displays and furniture are either antique or (if newer) not cheap, and are highly susceptible to water damage. Before the rules were implemented there have been incidents where people have spilled entire frosty frapps, have left water rings on antique furniture, and have left empty drink containers sitting on shelves in the back room. The lack of respect from some people is astounding, so it is no mystery as to why the sign is there. Asking those who enter to please come in, but to have respect for the space you occupy and your surroundings, shouldn't be hard. It's not a place to leave your liter or be defiant for defiant's sake. If someone reads the sign, and still walks in with intent to break those rules, or even asking to bend those rules (for one, for all), shows that you lack the ability to respect other people's boundaries, are a narcissist, or both. Like walking into a Japanese household you wouldn't enter with shoes on and kick the dirt off. You would be viewed as a rodent. It's not rocket science, this is first grade stuff. And I've see this privileged behavior first hand. To be sure, if Michael doesn't think someone has read the sign he simply lets people know. If being told rules as an adult offends, then maybe reflect on how rules were told to you when you were a child, because temper tantrums get children nowhere if they were raised right. It's astounding how privileged some people think they are. To know that someone's been asked to not photograph or video the inside of the store, interfering with someone else's experience, and then whipping out their phone to do that very thing, it's immensely disrespectful. Be a good person, come in with an open heart, be respectful of the rules, and you will find that Michael is the kindest, sweetest, and most giving and charitable shopkeeper you could ever encounter. read more

Read the bad reviews of this place before deciding to spend your hard earned money here. Usually metaphysical/magical shops have very loving kind owners. This is not the case here. This man is beyond rude, and all of the bad reviews agree. No one is ever trying to disrespect a store and their policy on purpose. No matter how big and rude the sign on the outside of your door is people can still miss it and a shop owner should respond to his customers better. Even his responses to every poor review are so rude, egotistical, unprofessional, and sometimes downright nasty. Have a good time being nasty to people ( especially young people) man. A magical world of whimsy and mystery around every corner. At first glance it can be a bit overwhelming but once you start exploring, every shelf has something unique to offer and then the hard part is deciding what to buy. Every pair of earrings I have ever bought from here have gotten multiple compliments when I wear them and they have held up nicely. The scents are amazing! List of rules is absolutely ridiculous and the owner is quite rude and entitled! God forbid you miss the sign on the door with a lengthy list of rules for entry, you'll be quite literally scolded. I'd imagine a store owner would aim to treat all potential customers with respect (and just basic courtesy), but I was proven wrong by this guy! I went to take a photo of a beautiful corner of his store (innocently, to share with a friend who would love the look of the store-- never had an issue doing this in any other store) and he loudly exclaimed "no photos allowed since you missed the MASSIVE sign on the door." Yeah, I did miss the sign. I'm not used to having to read a list of rules before entering a random boutique. My bad! I see many other reviews mentioning similar experiences. Funny that there are over 50 photos of the shop on this page. Apparently the people who took those photos didn't get scolded! I walked in, got yelled at, and walked right out. After being poured on a bit walking from the car we entered this beautiful space. It really takes you out of your element. You feel like you stepped into a mythical fairy world with all different types of treasures to discover. I highly recommend if you're having a bad day just walk in there. Almost instantly it will brighten your mood with all the trinkets and beauty surrounding you. I was overwhelmed but in the best way by everything in the store. We were given a warm welcome by the owner Michael Perich. I walked through the entire place trying to look at everything but there is just so much I'm sure I'll go back and notice things I missed before. The attention to detail is just amazing. I love how wonderfully everything in there flows together. I have never been so taken back by a store before. After looking around I got drawn to the fragrances which Michael was so kind showing me scents I would like till I found the 2 that spoke to me. There is literally something for everyone there.
