Once again, the Yelp reviews helped me find a restaurant we will certainly return to in the future. It was a Friday night. The large gravel parking lot was about half full. The building, overlooking Lake Pokegama, looked like many other up north bars. Walking in, I really wasn't sure if we were in the right place. Happily, we were. My dining partner and I sat at the bar. We were greeted right away by the bartenders and asked for our drink orders. The drinks had a great pour and were affordable. We were asked if we wanted to eat and promptly received menus. The menu had a lot of stuff. Appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pizza and fish. Having read reviews I was leaning toward the beef sandwich, while my dining partner wanted pizza. When the bartender said those were her favorite menu items, we decided to get one of each to split among us. Good choice! The sandwich was packed with meat and cheese. I could have drank the au jus; it was so good. While it was $22 (with fries), it would have been a big sandwich for most people to finish. The pizza was fantastic. The only pizza I enjoyed more was from a place in Nashville. The crust was top notch. The toppings were generous and prepared well. My dining partner and I are big eaters; we still had four (4) big pieces left at the end of our meal (it was great cold). It wasn't nice enough to sit outside on their large patio during our visit. We plan on returning here frequently in the future and will give it a try (weather permitting).

Inside this old, under-renovation building is a gem of a restaurant and bar. While it likely is known for its pizza, it has a wide variety of items on the menu. It also has a full bar. It offers high top seating with banquet style seating in a dining area off the bar. It is decorated with photos of old Hollywood stars. Our group tried a little of everything during our visit. Fish fry, chicken Parmesan sandwich, meatloaf, pizza and a chicken sandwich were ordered by the group. One member of the group said his chicken Parmesan was the best he'd ever had. The meatloaf was huge and extremely flavorful. The pizza was really tasty and the chicken sandwich was...a chicken sandwich. Personally, I had the fish fry (offered on Friday and Saturday nights). It could be prepared three ways. I took the house special corn meal. I received a hearty portion. Like all meals eaten, it came out hot and well prepared. I eat a lot and the four piece meal was not only delicious, but filling. My drinks were nicely priced and mixed nicely by our busy server. They had a band the night before and they hadn't quite cleaned up after, in fact the ladies from the night before were not too "lady like" (not my words, theirs). The two stars: 1 is for the excellent popcorn. 1/2 is for being a true dive bar and the other half is for having the quarter game.
