The layout - Every hole is a bit different than the last. Really provides a great variety of shot requirements. Four sets of tees for men allow it to be a fair course regardless of how far you are off the tee. Conditions - The course is about to close and go through a major renovation. Very excited to see the end result in the fall of 2026. Note that the owners didn't let the course go at any point...just had greens that are at the age that they become hard to maintain and need to be replaced, which also gives them a chance to change contours and extend some of them. Range - The members back range is always in great shape and there's a big practice area for chipping. Definitely a great perk for members. Membership - The members are a great group, very accepting of new people. There are regular games on Saturday and Sunday for all levels of players. The owners do a nice job of making sure their members have priority on times on the weekends. The management and employees overall really do a great job of taking care of their members. It's the type of environment where everyone remembers your name, what you like to drink, whether you like to walk or take a cart, etc. They are very accommodating and have created a great culture. Pace of Play - I've read some reviews saying pace of play is horrible. I have not experienced that. On weekend mornings (before Noon), it's mostly members and pretty much plays at a 4 hour pace. I play 9 holes late once or twice a week (around 5PM) and also never had any bad experience. In general, I think most area courses on a weekend afternoon probably will be a bit slower. The greens were unplayable without any warning. Overpacked tee times. Used to be such a great place to play.

I am definitely not a golfer so I can't speak to ANYTHING pertaining to the course itself. My sons are avid golfers and have competed in tournaments and travel junior golf! South Hampton is one of my son's favorite courses. I recently had the pleasure to return to this course after a very long time out of the golf environment. I attended a fundraiser golf tournament and was amazed at the tournout and especially the way the staff seamlessly supported the family and players during the day-long tournament/luncheon/raffle. Willy DiStefano, director of golf and club communications was present that day and extremely hands-on with anyone's needs the entire day. From the bar staff, the person grilling burgers for the players, the cart attendants in the cart barn, the starter, the beverage cart attendant, to the steward....every one helped the festivities progress flawlessly! I have held tournaments at other local courses but seeing the way things played out that day has made me change my mind as to where I'll be holding the next one. Well done South Hampton! read more

Called Saturday, 11/8 to confirm the hours of the range and was told they stopped selling balls at 5. Stopped by after work on 11/10 at 4:45 on Monday and the lady in the pro shop said they stopped selling balls an hour before sunset (4:30). She would not even sell me a small bucket even after I explained what their employee had told me. Just a disappointing experience overall and left feeling annoyed and frustrated. read more

I really like this course. Nice layout with some challenging holes but nothing too crazy. I believe they have 5 sets of tees including a family tee so it can be enjoyed by various levels of golfers. Clubhouse is decent - better than average with a good dining and bar area. Service has typically been very good and well organized. Today the greens definitely needed some work. Maybe they are getting ready to aerate - I hope so as they were not rolling very well. South Hampton is in the regular rotation for me and my normal crew as we always seem to enjoy these facilities. read more

This place has gone completely downhill. Greens are terrible but the worst part is the pace of play here. Over 100 degrees in the summer and there are people taking 20 mulligans and backing up the entire course. Me and my buddy were legitimately playing 3 balls each because it was so slow. At the turn, we asked if the group in front of us could let us pass or if he could ask them to speed up a bit. The starter told us to kick rocks and not come back if we don't like the pace of play. There were actual members behind us furious about the pace of play so it was not just us complaining. I had played here in the past without issue and I was actually considering becoming a member here as well; but, after this disaster I will not be coming back. Sorry, 5-6 hour rounds in the Florida summer heat are not okay. read more

This is not my first time playing South Hampton and I really like the course. It was in good shape overall, however some of the greens looked like they were under repair. Grass was bare in some places and they had painted the dirt to be green. It was extremely popular on our day and a little backed up due to a member tournament tie-breaker that had to be settled. The staff was adequately friendly, but we did not see any marshalls on the course keeping the pace of play up to speed. The price was right for a late day round. read more

Went here with my mom and sister - the food and drink menu at this golf course were amazing! Must try the maple bourbon old fashioned, Greek hummus, and the tuna tartar stack. Outside seating is great, maybe not in the summer time though! read more

Had difficulty booking a tee time online yesterday ($27 for 18 holes with cart- a good deal). I decided to drive over to the course since they appeared to have plenty of available times. The lady in the pro shop wouldn't honor the online rate even though I tried to explain that I was unable to book a tee time through their system. To make matters worse, she was extremely rude. I walked out of the pro shop and went to nearby St. John's Golf and Country Club. This woman must be the owner's wife or girlfriend because she has no business working in her role as an "ambassador" for a golf course. I give South Hampton one star for lousy service and I never even saw the course. read more

South Hampton is a spectacular, public course for a number of reasons: -phenomenal practice facility with dual driving ranges (great for separating the folks taking lessons who may be working on a wicked slice!) -beautiful open course making the play fun for even the novice player (Kudos to South Hampton's agronomer) -greens are in perfect shape year round (a feat in itself in Florida!) -clubhouse is gorgeous -reasonable golfing rates for this area -there are several beverage cart girls which means your next beer will always be cold! -staff is enthusiastic, fun and friendly South Hampton gets a definite all around 5 star rating! read more

You will never believe this. Went to Southampton Golf Course in St Johns Fl to play golf today. They wanted me to join with a man that has recently recovered from cancer had a colostomy bag and high blood pressure. I told him that I was a high school football coach and was around kids with Covid and did not want to ride with the guy because I would get him sick possibly. The guy felt the same way and said that he would not play as well. So they made one of us choose to not play and refund the $60 fee because they didn't want us to be in separate golf cart. They guy is also unvaccinated. Can you believe this? read more

Sadly, had to re-write the review from back when this was my favorite course....Although its still a great course that's always in great shape-several things have happened that causes me to knock down S Hampton a couple stars: 1) To quote Yogi Berra, "Its so crowded nobody goes there anymore" It's Wed morning, and they're already booked SOLID Saturday until 11:39....the last time it was like this....my group got a time @noon - and waited until 3 minutes before tee off to get a cart....almost 5 hour round was a little tough 2) Lady at the register - dark haired lady always rude.....the last time I went there after getting a tee time online...was told (very rudely) - it wasn't in their system, then lectured me about printing a confirmation - I have no doubt it was a computer glitch, and possibly even my mistake...but she was a complete...let's say "witch" it the way she handled it. 3) Pro - wife bought me 5 lessons.....I'm NOT a good golfer - and I have a lot of issues in my swing (including being fat and cross-handed)...I really wanted these 5 to be a start of multiple lessons to completely change my swing and game - even if it meant tearing me down to build me back up.....I never felt he listened, and after telling him what he was asking me to do was extremely uncomfortable....just told me i needed more flexibility and keep going....I was sore for 3 days, tried another lesson a couple of months later - same thing.....I'm going to just eat the last 3 lessons - just don't mesh or feel confident with the pro (although he was a really nice guy). To close - I'll go back, but only if we get a foursome (ALWAYS pair you off - need to, it's that crowded) and I'll be sure to buy a few beers to relax and enjoy a great course.....because we'll be there a while.... read more

Another poor rating for customer service. Website says place is open until 7. So I went to the range to hit some balls. The sun was bright and it was a beautiful afternoon. I was off and had no idea of the time. I took the time to change my shoes and carried my clubs to the range. When I went into the pro shop to buy my bucket I'm told "oh we close at 5". I'm like is it really 5O'clock implying the closing time seems early, he says sarcastically, it's actually after 5. I say OK and I get a pathetic "sorry bout that". No big deal, not going to let it raise my blood pressure. As I'm sitting at the back of my car (changing my shoes) I see a guy emerge from the steps. He's holding a bucket of balls. He's in his street clothes and about 5 Minutes later finally makes his way to the range. Very poor customer service to not see that I went to the trouble to come to the range and because I'm 2 minutes past the closing time not look for a way to extend great customer service by saying, "hey we're actually closed but If you're gonna be fast how about a small bucket" ? Also the other fella was smart to get his balls before changing his shoes so I don't begrudge him but he must've walked in at 4:59. That's a razor thin policy that should be examined. This is my neighborhood and hate giving a bad review. I'm guessing they don't read them anyway. Hope you do and you arrive before 5!!!! read more

Played this course yesterday evening and had a really good time. I was only able to get out for 9 holes, but I was impressed with the way the course was layed out. Fairways are large and the greens are fun to roll on. I would recommend playing this course. It's challenging but doesn't have that gimmick feel to it. I'll play here again. read more

Good practice facilities and clubhouse. Course in good shape, the greens were a little rough, but rolled nicely. Some fairways needed attention, as there were a lot of divots, filled and unfilled. Has lots of water, bunkers, and surrounding woods, however, designed in a way that it is not a very difficult course. Has many sets of tees from 7,000 yards to the junior tees of 2,800 yards. I've played this course many times and have never experienced such a rude experience. Played with a friend and wives(new to golf). We played best ball to keep pace and stoped for 10 minutes at the turn for drinks and chips$45(as I've done at all courses). At 17 after we chipped on the green the Marshall said the group behind us complained on us and that we shouldn't stop at the turn( spend extra money). Granted a group still in front of us. Still under 4 hours of golf( the standard). In 20 years of golf have never experienced such inconsiderate attitude from an employee. This corse will not be on my rotation again. read more

Will not give them another dime of my money! My husband and I play here almost every weekend. Sometimes we book a threesome. We had a 12:15 tee time booked and were told that they were adding a single to our group which was fine until they told me I had to ride with the single because they needed the carts. I was okay with it until I asked the kid if he had been vaccinated for COVID. When he said no I said I didn't want to ride with him. They would not let me play unless I agreed to ride with him. They also wouldn't refund our money. Our group decided that for the benefit of our health we would forego our tee time and went across the street to Cimmarone who were all to happy to accommodate us. FYI when you book online it says nothing about having to share a cart with a stranger. Imagine if you had just quit smoking and they insisted you ride with someone who smoked or puffed away on cigars all day. Someone in charge did not think this policy through. They were more than happy to discard as as loyal customers just to enforce a so called policy that had never before been enforced. read more
