I prebooked and paid 200 for early tee time but when I arrived they were hidden fees. I was also charged an additional 35 bucks just for my wife to ride in the cart with me (never been charged extra for that anywhere). It was a total of 275 dollars vs my 200 online booking. The greens were also full of sand ( this should have been a discounted rate) and on the back 9 the greens keeper followed way to close on every hole with a running tractor and the blower attachment on. I've been golfing here since they opened in 1998 - yep, I'm old. I even have a metal bag tag from that inaugural year - pretty cool. Today was no different than previous experiences. Solid and friendly service along with well maintained resort golf. We came out on a Friday at 4p and had the front nine to ourselves. As a twosome, we eventually caught up to a foursome on the back but still managed to finish 18 holes in about 3.5 hours. read more

Expectations were set high by our first visit around 1995. What has happened to this once great facility is deplorable! The wonderfully fun golf museum was run out of town by escalating lease expenses. However, the worse part of it was the condition of the greens! I've played golf for more than 60 years and taught it for 12. I know that fungus on the greens happens. Fortunately, it is curable with time and money. Obviously, the owners of this facility believes their course is so 'special,' folks will gladly pay through the nose despite the condition. Had I known the course conditions beforehand, I would probably pulled the plug and gone elsewhere! Although I only played nine, I had to pay for the full eighteen! With the resort fees and taxes, the cost of 9 holes was $180! I would have been better off throwing the money at the gators! read more

Understood that, during The Players week, the rates increase. Booked a round in advance. Rate was $215. Arrived and saw a note stating that, when payinf by vcredit card, a 3% surcharge was added. Then on top of that they added an $11.20 resort fee. All done, the rate went to $250 with tax. OK, It's a Troon course. It should be a great experience. Went to the range and found the range balls looked like they had been there forever. The turf was uneven, and looked like it had not been mowed in a long time. Once on the course, found a lot of bare spots. The greens could best be described as terrible. There were what appeared to be bare or dead grass spots, that had been painted over to look green. Greens were rolling at about a 9. Played St John's 2 days earlier. Price was half, and was in much better shape read more

This place has gone downhill. They had just sanded the greens (and failed to tell us when we booked), and greens were dead with craters. The Golf Hall of Fame has been closed for 2 years. The whole development is dying. read more

Today I was taking out one of my team members to play a round of golf. I booked specifically for two person and on their fall and ball two some package. I purchased online went through everything and picked a teatime. We showed up an hour early to get some practice swings in and was told that it was $410. Nothing they would do about it and I have the paper that I picked up from their desk and showed them it has no blackout dates time restrictions, etc. etc.. read more

I and a group of friends have played this course every Spring 2-3 times in a week for 20+ years. It was once a very great course to enjoy, but in the last handful of years course conditions have dropped in quality while green fees have increased. This year the course was very disappointing with rock hard, glassy greens with pins placed on the ridges. Very , very unenjoyable to play. The apple barrels disappeared during COVID and never returned, trash cans are few and far between around the clubhouse area. One urinal was out of service the entire week and per a conversation with one of the staff, it was out of service the previous week. Also the front door to Pro Shop was out of service the entire week. The Pro Shop, Restaurant/Bar all closed at 5 pm. The green fees are $175, we had a special lower rate but even that wasn't worth it. Public courses in the area charging $65 are in much better condition. GO PLAY GOLF SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

For this course being at the world golf hall of fame they could up their customer service game a bit. The pro shop staff was not friendly after we had come from playing the King and Bear to play our second round of the day. Cart staff was the same had all the bags on the wrong carts wrong positions etc. a course of this caliber should be good at the routine daily stuff. Once we reached the starter he was the shining high point for customer service. Friendly and helpful with course knowledge. Had a great day on the course with our friends and once we finished up at 6:30pm on a Friday the pro shop as well as restaurant was closed and locked up at 6:30 in April. Couldn't believe it, there were still several groups on the course playing and they just close the place down. Also the bag drop at this course is in the most remote location I have ever seen at any golf course. Save your money and go play the King and Bear much better course and service. read more

The Slammer and Squire, the second of two courses on the PGA tour World Golf Village and Hall of Fame site in St Augustine Florida. Shorter than the famous King and Bear, which I will play next time, its a technical golfers dream! Played in the shadow of the World Golf Hall of Fame, I mean that literally, the sign is seen all over the course, it brings the tradition of the game to the forefront and reminds, even the most amateur golfer of the great who played the game before them! Also, you can book your tee time right through Yelp! When pulling up to Slammer and Squire, you share parking with the World Golf HOF! It humbling from the beginning or really, why are you playing? A gentleman in what I call a limo cart, picked our bags and us up and brought us to the pro shop to check in and get us ready for the round! The young man in the pro shop was super helpful and got us amped for our round. We had to check out the locker room and low and behold, there were lockers for the Slammer and Squire still in the locker room alongside champions of the course and other notables in golf! Designed by Gene Sarazen, "The Squire", and Sam Snead, "The Slammer", its a 6900 yard challenge for the golfer who doesn't live and die by the driver! That being said, you have to hit good drives, they just don't need to be 250 plus yards! The course has fairway bunkers on a great number of the holes and very few "straight" forward holes. Many a dog leg left or right in which the tee cannot see the green to include steep bunkers and fescue style palmettos! We had a memorable experience and was so appreciative of everyone we have met! If you are looking for a great experience on one of the best courses in the world, and truthfully, we aren't the best golfers in the world, check out Slammer and Squire, but book early, it does tend to get full! read more

A friend and I had a trip planned to St Simons island for a graduation. We decided to go down a few days earlier and stay in St Augustine Florida. We wanted to get a round of golf in the first day and decided to play at the Squire at the World Golf Headquarters based on positive reviews there. When we pulled up to the course it began to thunder and the pro shop said we would have to wait out the storm. We were disappointed of course because we had just flown in from Kansas City and had been looking forward to play for weeks. The pro shop recommended nearby Murray Brothers Caddyshack to get some food and wait out the storm. After about an hour at Cadddyshack we went back to the course and were able to get a time booked. They offered letting us hit some practice balls for free but the weather was still iffy so we wanted to get started and at least get a few holes in. We got the entire round in and basically had the course to ourself. The course was great and in perfect shape, this was my first time playing in Florida and the greens definitely take some getting used to but loved this course and plan on going back again someday. read more

I have played the Slammer and Squire course at the World Golf hall of Fame twice now. The friendly attitudes and high quality of service by the staff scores extra points. They really make you feel welcome. I have had some buddies tell me that they prefer the King and the Bear course over S&S, but I have to sternly disagree. The S&S is a nice layout with ample room to drive the ball. It is more of an approach shot golf course. Frankly most of us need to play less challenging layouts. Golf is for fun and this course hits the mark. You can still find a challenge if you play the back tees, though I would suggest the middle tees for family fun and pace of play. The condition of the World Golf Village courses are always top notch. Now tee it up and go have fun. read more

Amazing course. Very challenging. My only complaint is that they arrogated the greens so it made putting quite different then normal. Why not do this later on? Golf shop staff was very friendly and attentive. Decided to eat breakfast in the grille and service there was great as well. The drive in is a little confusing as there is no direct driveway to the clubhouse but not a big deal to play such a nice course with such a great story. read more

For the price I'd say it's not worth it. The best thing about the course is the weather and the drive through the woods between holes. We only saw the drink cart once. Unfortunately the course was soaked with water from rain last week so it was a mud fest. Playing on world golf village is neat, but not 120 dollars neat. read more

This golf course is in good shape but the inattentive staff has made this a frustrating day. Definitely NOT worth $120 per person. (Advertised cost of $109 did not include cart fee and tax.) Started with NO balls on the driving range. Then the Starter was nowhere to be found. Extremely slow pace of play and the Ranger showed up several times but did nothing to move it along. We only saw the refreshment cart on Hole #1 and Hole #16. Not sure we will waste our time or money to play here again. There are so many other courses in the area. read more

Golf was good and in good condition. Scheduled to play @ 9:59 am. Went as a twosome. Supposedly we were to play with another twosome. Starter came over and told us that the other twosome did not want to play with us. So they teed off ahead of us. Got to second hole waiting our turn. Starter came over to us and told us twosome in front complained that were too close to them when they were teeing off. They didn't like us watching them. What a joke. On a busy why let two twosomes go off? Poor management. Took just over five hours to play. Waited on every shot. read more

They were glad to take our money for a foursome but had zero service on the course because the member tournament had been earlier that day. If you are not going to have a cart selling drinks, or water on the course do not take tee times. They would not even let us get any food at the grill at the turn. Told us they were closed for the private member tournament. Course is not even that great, King and the Bear was better. Should have known it was going to be crappy when no one was even at the bag drop. read more
