Where do I start? Well, I came in and was greeted well. As I started to look around a nice lady who will remain anonymous asked if she could help me. I told her I wanted to replace a sofa and chaise lounge. As we talked she asked if I knew the dimensions and I said I did not and she recommended I find that and we could start from there. I went home, measured the length of my sofa (64 inches) and chaise (29 inches) and returned a couple days later. I checked out a few sofas and liked the texture of one and from there we chose the color and she went to her desk to write up an estimate. My mistake was not paying attention as when she wrote up the estimate, it was for a love seat and not a sofa, which is what I wanted. She had checked marked on a very small diagram of the various selections and because my previous sofa had 2 back cushions and what she checked marked on for my approval also had 2 back cushions I approved the selection. Again, assuming what I had approved was the 64 inch sofa turned out to be a 53 inch loveseat. My bad. But I guess had she known what I really wanted as I had explained that to her from the beginning, I would have hoped she would have pointed out I was approving something I didn't want, lengthwise. When reviewing the diagram she had checked marked for my approval I noticed my old sofa had 2 back cushions and when I looked at the diagram she showed me the loveseat also had 2 back cushions, but the sofa I would have wanted had 3 in her diagram so I dismissed it as being too long. I made the wrong assumption that my new sofa ( loveseat) with the 2 back cushions would be the same as my old sofa with 2 back cushions lengthwise. Sadly I now have a too small loveseat that is 10 inches shorter than what I wanted. I assume responsibility for trusting my salesperson to knowing what I wanted from our initial conversation and not recognizing my oversight when finalizing the sale. read more

The couch itself was just as ordered, fabric perfect, workmanship excellent and it is gorgeous. The staff answered all my questions, we went over every aspect of what I was ordering to make sure the communication was clear and precise. The best thing of all was the savings I saved. They have a low overhead and the showroom is simple. The fabric selection is incredible. If you can't find your fabric, then something is wrong with you. We moved to Roseville, CA and haven't found anyone remotely close to the service and value we experience via House of Values, so we organize our "wants" (getting pretty good at this) and work with Nancy's Team over email or the phone. If we need to choose fabrics, it's our worth time to make the drive to San Mateo. When it's time to pick up our order...we're saving so much money *and* getting such quality furniture...I rent a trailer and go pick it up. I have zero regrets, because of the price and quality. It's also nice to see Nancy and her team's friendly faces. Last thing...we recently downsized and had many pieces of furniture placed on consignment (all previously purchased through House of Values). About a year ago, we were shopping at House of Values, we found a large clock/cabinet that we really liked. We talked to "Junior," a very nice grandfatherly man who took care of all of the paperwork. I came back later to load it up into our car, and to my surprise, he insisted on helping me carry the bulky thing out to my car and helped me jostle it in through the trunk and past folded-down car seats. Since we moved to San Carlos about a year and a half ago, we've been on the lookout for furniture. Our realtor recommended House of Values and we've stopped by several times. In addition to looking around at the furniture they have in the store, they've got a back office full of furniture catalogs. You flip through some catalogs for ideas, mark the things you like, and they'll photocopy and price check things that you're interested in before you place your order with them. It's got a very different feel from a typically furniture store; it's a bit on the homier side, and the back room is bustling with energy. Overall the staff is very busy but helpful, especially with finding similar-looking items and tracking down samples. This past weekend we stopped by since we've been looking for a new bed (we ended up ordering one). We noticed a flyer in the window announcing Junior's passing and were greatly saddened, even though we didn't know him personally. Last year we bought a desk as a present for a family member. Great looks, wonderful quality and in stock. They delivered, no charge. Nearly a year later, the user had damaged a piece of hardware--doubt if it was faulty hardware, a hinge. They ordered the part and offered to have it installed, which we declined since we know how to operate a screw driver. First time we ever had an issue and they passed with flying colors! When we went in to pick up the piece, it was late, and I casually mentioned that I'd be back to look for an office chair, they pulled several catalogs and offered to show me some fabrics. This is absolutely unheard of--most businesses start dimming the lights and send you on your way. These folks know their business, are crazy reasonable with prices, are kind and want you to be happy with whatever you buy. I walked in here last week in search of a new dining table, sideboard, and bed. Our neighbor told us they had good deals and that it was a good place to shop. Anyway, when I walked in, there was a female employee sitting down at their work area and she looked up and didn't greet me...not even a head nod or a smile. Okay, for a small furniture store in the suburbs, I think it wouldn't kill you to greet your customers. As I began to look around, there was another employee who appeared to be busy but again, no greeting. House of Values is one of those hidden gems. We recently discovered them as they are one of the few furniture stores that carries furniture from a certain manufacturer in the Bay area. Through them, we were able to order a bedroom set at a great price. They kept us informed every step of the way from order, to shipment arrival, to delivery. Their delivery team is efficient and careful when moving our items upstairs. We did have a manufacturer issue with the nightstands we ordered and HOV was very accommodating working with us to get a resolution that kept us as satisfied customers. Really beautiful stuff here but I'm in agreement with the other reviews noting the service or lack there of. We visit the store often and I also feel that it's so inconvenient for any of the associates to help or answer questions. In fact, they seem so annoyed and super unwilling to help. I've had just one interaction with a woman who I felt gave maybe half a $h!* but it was overshadowed by the associates who couldn't care less. I inquired about a brand they carry and the woman said they only bring in their tables. So I asked about a sofa and she said "well we can order it" and I asked if she knew what the cushion Filling was and of course, she didn't and told me again she can order it. We ordered a desk from the showroom. When we walked in we had to wait for ten minutes before anybody came out from the back to help us. The salesperson seemed annoyed that we were even inside the store. After a while we found a desk and we were told that it would take three or four weeks for delivery. After two weeks we called to confirm the delivery date. This is where the wheels fell off. The salesperson told us that the inquiry about the delivery date was too intense and got very snarky. When we called back to talk with the owner, the salesperson jumped on the line and both of them were very unprofessional. read more

My husband & I are empty nesters and decided to retire our very traditional furniture and get some more comfy seating for our living room. We worked with a couple very helpful saleswomen at House of Values who helped us decide on a sectional sofa and an accompanying chaise. The furniture took a while to be made because of the supply chain. When we finally took delivery of the sofa we had completely forgotten what we had ordered. The furniture is absolutely wonderful!!! I've been buying furniture from House of Values for about 25 years, starting with my kids' bedroom furniture. By the way, we still have that beautiful well-made Vermont Precision maple furniture! Since then we basically furnished our entire house with furniture from House of Values. The couch we had in our family room for 15 years was indestructible. We only replaced it because we moved and changed colors/styles. Here's the deal - House of Values is not a fancy furniture store where they will hold your hand, help you make decisions, and make commission off you. We couldn't actually figure out how to enter the building because there are three separate buildings on the block, all with different types of furniture. This is how you do it at House of Values - first go to a fancy furniture store that has a gigantor showroom (we went to Giorgi Bros) - your chances of seeing more furniture in the flesh are much higher. We found the couch we wanted at Giorgi, got it priced, then went to HOV to see if we could get it cheaper....and yes, we did - $1000 cheaper! The employees at HOV are very straightforward. You want to see fabric? They'll point you to the room where there are 1,000,000 different kinds of fabric. You want to sit in couches? Go ahead. They won't hassle you, which I happen to appreciate. They are there when you have questions and will leave you alone if you want to just poke around. Since we went in knowing exactly what we wanted, we just asked for a price quote for all the pieces of the section couch we had picked out. The price came back amazingly lower than Giorgi. We picked out our fabric, got help picking out the couch legs, and voila! Done. He quoted that it would take 6-8 weeks for the couch to be delivered, and in week 4 of waiting, we got a phone call that the couch was here and we scheduled (free) delivery. 4 WEEKS EARLY! Delivery guys came in the window they promised, kindly moved our old cruddy couch into the garage for us, and plopped the new couches in our living room. If I need to buy any other furniture, I will definitely, without question, go with HOV. read more

If you want some "real" brand name furniture of any type (dining room, bedroom, upholstered, etc). they have it all. And they have the best fricken prices you will find anywhere. ANYWHERE! This place just rocks when it comes to furniture value. Here's how it works. You come in with an idea of what you want. Say, for instance a new formal dining room table and chairs. You tell the people what style and color you're looking for. They give you a bunch of manufacturer's books to look through. House of Values has a showroom and chances are they have one of the pieces you are interested in. But you don't buy the floor model. They order a new one for you. And they deliver it for FREE. It's not like Levitz, where they only sell what's on the floor. Basically if someone makes it, they can get it for you, and for less than anyone else in the entire Bay Area. For example, I went to Macy's to look for a new dining room set. I had seen this one very expensive set on the internet and asked if they could get it for me. Oh sure, the table would be $3,000. Then I called House of Values and asked about the exact same dining table. Their price was less than half of what Macy's quoted me. Shopping at House of Values is a bit of process, I admit, but in the end you save some really big bucks. The staff is very knowledgable and very helpful and patient. If you like something, they make a color xerox copy of the manufacturer's showbook page and give you a price. You may need to go there more than one time to make a final decision on your furniture, but it is worth all the time you spend. In case you are wondering how they can offer such low prices, I have the answer. They own the buildings they are in. And since they don't pay rent, they can afford to pass their low overhead savings on to you. We hit the jack pot at this place. The employees were extremely helpful and not pushy at all. They helped me identify a style, and then helped me find a furniture set in my price range. A few months after purchasing the bedroom set we had a minor issue with one of the drawers. House of Values customer service was excellent. They sent someone the next week to fix the drawer. I love this place. Friendly service, quick to fix mistakes, large selection, and no sales pressure! The people who work here do not work on commission, so if you go in and browse and say you'll come back later, they'll let it go. The way it works may not be for some people. I was starting to despair of ever finding a set of chairs for under $100 a chair, but the salespeople here steered me in the right direction. They asked me what I wanted, and didn't even blink when I mentioned cheaper and good quality. The place is disorganized, and sometimes the salespeople can be kind of flighty, but they are pretty knowledgeable, especially if you get some of the older ones. You don't actually see the furniture you want the way you would in other furniture stores; you basically flip through catalogs until you find what you want, and have the salespeople price the stuff you've tagged. Then you decide which one you want and you tell them. There's free delivery if you purchase over $300 worth of stuff, and they deliver as far out as Pleasanton. I actually got a free delivery for my purchase because they accidentally mixed up my order with someone else. They fixed the mistake immediately, and were very apologetic about it. Also, for $5 per chair, they assembled my furniture for me. It looks good! Warning: Their website does not work in Firefox. I hope they fix that soon. read more

From my multiple experiences with House of Values, I do understand the perspective coming from some of the reviewers here. If I were to go into a typical retail store like Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn, I do have a level of expectations in terms of customer service. However, if you were to shop with HOV, you sort of have to push your sleeves up and dive in and do a lot of "customer service" for yourself. And why would you do that?? Because they do have the LOWEST price for quality brand name furniture. They are a bit unorganized, little short staffed and are always busy when I am there and often times do not greet you or help you out when you need them. But they do offer great deals and many different lines of quality furniture. If you need alot of hand holding, this may not be the place for you. However, if you know what you want and want to pay rock bottom prices for it, HOV is it. For me, I am giving HOV 5 stars because what is important to me is their quality and price, not whether they say hi to me or not. The entire staff is extremely nice and helpful...when they have the time. Oh and free shipping too. read more

"Wow!" in every sense of the word! Wow, they were insanely busy (on a Tuesday afternoon no less). Wow, yes, there were a lot of interior decorators around. Wow, they have a great selection of manufacturers. Wow, and the biggest of all the Wows, you cannot beat their prices! Yes, when you go there, you must expect to do a lot of waiting because it is busy. BUT, while waiting around, I met several decorators who were super nice and just totally willing to help me with my decorating dilemma. Yes, it does look a little sketchy from outside. Yes, it does help if you have a good idea of what you want, brands, dimensions, color schemes.....aka "be prepared!" I don't know how Nancy does it, keeping everyone happy, so many facts in her head, phone perpetually ringing, nonstop questions being thrown at her......there's no way I would last 10 minutes! Bought a new recliner from this place because their pricing is probably the best around the Bay Area. However, their after-sales service have been horrible. There is an issue with the leather of my recliner that has not been addressed for months since we took delivery. I have numerous voicemail and email records of promises from Nancy saying she would make it her personal business to get it fixed. But, here we are without a single effort to resolve the issue still. Unless you can deal with problems on your own, I would shop elsewhere if price is not the only decision factor. read more

The store is run by the daughter and the father is there to help...but everyone who works there are very nice and friendly, you just need to catch them when they are not busy. You can shop their showroom or you can shop from the massive selection of catalogs. If you are looking for a bed, be specific if you can on style and materials. They will give you all the applicable catalogs and you can browse...when you find the ones you like, they'll get you the prices and answer any questions you may have. We got our chair and a half with ottoman and our large handpainted armoire here - both pieces get compliments all the time. We love our chair and a half - just slightly smaller than a love seat but still large enough to snuggle in with hubby. I've furnished two apartments at House of Values, and have been very satisfied with the price, quality, friendly staff and delivery service. Nancy and Kim have each helped me find excellent furniture with custom leather, fabric and details. They even diagrammed my rooms to make sure everything would fit comfortably allowing me to confidently buy pieces large enough to fit my rooms and suit my comfort. They have also saved me thousands of dollars. I will be returning soon to buy a few things I held off on before my move. Pro tip: Go in on a weekday if you can. Saturdays are very busy here. I purchase 3 sofas from House of Values and I paid $8389.31. 2 sofas are model 2081-20 which the fabric is pilling terribly and balling out. The cushions feel like very old, sinking and it doesn't fit the frames. The fabric twists all the time. The cushions have a space in between and makes it very uncomfortable to seat. The 3rd sofa I bought is 2053-29 queen sleeper. I have the same issues plus the seating area is too short and very uncomfortable to relax. The reason I purchase Hunting Sofa because I already have two sofas exact model and still works like a champ after17 years. I use my old sofas in my family room and don't have any issues. I use the new sofas in my living room and we barely use it and still I have issues. I guess the Huntington House Changed the materials and they don't have good quality anymore. I just email the store hopefully they can fix it because it's less than a year I bought it. read more

Bought our sectional here about 14 years ago and it's still going strong, made it through 2 dogs, baby showers, birthday parties, Girl Scout troop meetings and numerous other events. The cushions are still firm ( no sagging or tears) and people still comment about the couch being a perfect nap spot. We're moving to a new house and I've looked into purchasing a new couch, more because I want a change and style and color and I've actually had friends protest and then argue over who gets it. Not sure I'll be able to part with it, but if I do, I'll be coming back here for the second couch. PS - I forgot to mention that the first week we purchased the couch my new puppy chewed a 12 inch hole into the chaise side of the couch.
