They make the most out of the space they have in this bustling shady side neighborhood. The coffee drinks are made with first rate equipment and they are thoughtful and unique. You'll find ingredients like smoked salt and peppercorn (Smokey Robinson) and delicious specials like a banana caramel latte. Where they really stole my heart was having a full nonalcoholic bar with complex drinks like takes on an espresso martini and old fashioned made with NA spirits. So so good. They are going to rotate food concepts in their kitchen here but first up was Mortadella and I got a veggie sandwich that might be the best I've ever had. This coffee shop is located in the Allentown neighborhood of Pittsburgh and my wife and I had visited it before in its previous incarnation. In any case, this shop definitely caters to an interesting crowd and that is reflected in the somewhat dim lighting inside. Besides the usual coffee bar and a merchandise area, what sets this place apart is that it has four pinball machines. For my coffee I went with the Vlad the Impaler while my wife went with the Bloody Kisses. The menu described mine as espresso with toasted marshmallow syrup, honey, hickory smoke, cinnamon and clove, topped with marshmallows and a hot honey drizzle. My wife's was described as espresso with dark chocolate sauce, French raspberry and cookie butter syrups, milk, and topped with whipped cream and raspberry drizzle. My coffee ended up being quite good. The flavor combination was one of the more complex ones I have had, and the hot honey added a bit of heat on the finish. That said, the coffee itself was not lost and still came through with a nice rich flavor. My wife also enjoyed her Bloody Kisses, especially the combination of dark chocolate and raspberry. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Grim Wizard definitely has a unique vibe, but I liked the pinball machines and the coffee was good as well.
