Just like a home cooked meal! The fried chicken was piping hot and delicious. Mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, biscuits, butter, cinnamon applesauce - all family style and all very good. We also got the tea and the lemonade...both were great. Cash only!!! They do also take checks - but no credit cards!!! This is a very quaint little place. It doesn't look very big from the outside but there is actually quite a bit of seating on the inside but sort of crowded. There is an outdoor area with about 5 tables on it which is where we sat. It was so loud inside because it was crowded due to Father's Day. So the menu is all chicken dinners. They have different sides. You get a biscuit that comes with your dinner but can order more. They also have an All You Can Eat option. It was pretty good over all and we might visit again but nothing memorable. They do have a handicapped ramp and bathroom. read more

Excellent all around! We had a 16 person group and they were fast with providing refills and made sure we had everything we needed. And the food... I'm still not sure if it was real or if I was dreaming. The pies were especially unbelievable. The chef even came out from the back to ask us how everything was. Best fried chicken in the US. Better than Strouds in KC. Better than JC airport. Better than Welcome Inn. Better than Westphalia Inn. Only thing close was Bon Ton Mini Mart in Kentucky. As you can see, my wife and I consider ourselves fried chicken connoisseurs, if that isn't a paradoxical claim. And it is not just the chicken. The biscuits and mashed potatoes are to die for. The cinnamon apple sauce is the bomb. Green beans delish!! Great people, great prices. Just try it you will not be disappointed. Had Sunday dinner here today. Got the Family Chicken & Ham Dinner. Best fried chicken I've had in 20 years! No joke. The fried chicken is exactly liked my mother's who passed away in 1996. The dinner came with biscuits (butter, apple butter & honey), green beans (seasoned with ham), mashed potatoes with gravy, cole slaw & applesauce. All you can eat. So, so good. Even my picky eaters enjoyed themselves. We also got dessert. The hubby & I both had the blackberry cobbler. I know why the waiter, Austin, said it was a house favorite. One kid had just ice cream & the other had the chocolate cream pie (which I snuck a bite of). Definitely one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Oh, the prices can't be beat. I absolutely had an amazing experience the day we tried the Claysville Store. We met our extended family here (23 of us) for lunch one day and man was the food outstanding. The chicken was the most moist and flavorful chicken I truly had ever had. The sides were amazing as well. The young lady that took care of us was so courteous and and friendly, she never got flustered or got behind with all of us being there. The desserts were fantastic, I had the peach cobbler and the banana honey ice-cream! The hours are short and you really need to make a reservation or show up very early to make sure you get a seat. The place is packed, and after trying the food I can totally understand why! Make sure you try this, and if you can go during the peak of fall, the drive down is beautiful and the color of the leaves was gorgeous. It was a beautiful day and the experience at the Claysville Store was nothing short of a wonderful time! read more

Tried out this little place this weekend. It is something cool to do at least once, just for the experience. The outside of the place is nothing to look at, it needs painting, but I think it looks this way on purpose, not because it's run down. It just adds to the quaintness of the place. We ordered the chicken and ham family option ($13 per person), chicken only was $12, white chicken only was $13.50 and I think that might have been with ham, but I am not sure. Took a bit to get our food but the waitress said the kitchen got backed up. No big deal. She brought out the slaw and applesauce first. There were 5 people at our table and it's a good thing it is all you can eat as the bowls are small, so with that many, basically everyone(3 people) got a spoon of the slaw and a tiny spoonful of applesauce. I was told that both were tasty though, so that is a plus, and you could ask for more, so not really a problem. The rest of the food did take about 10 minutes longer to come out. We all ordered the family chicken and ham. Mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and biscuits. The fried chicken was okay, more of a dry breading, crispy on the outside but not a very heavy coating of breading. Chicken breast were cut up in probably 3 different piece so it was hard to tell they what they were. I think the chicken was deep fried, but without being pressure fried (that makes a big difference). Chicken was a bit dry, but still tasted fine. The country ham was really good as were the potatoes, gravy, beans and biscuits. Drinks are served in mason jars, which I don't care for, but it's just a drink, and they give straws, so it wasn't that huge of a deal. It really is all you can eat, just ask for more and they even give you to go boxes, which is a rare with an all you can eat style of service. I'm not sure how they make money on that. For the amount of food you get, it is well worth the price. I spent that much earlier that day getting a small Philly, fries and drink at Penn Station. A couple of us ordered some the "homemade" pie. Chocolate banana cream and coconut cream pie. I know people have different ideas of what homemade is. This was not made from scratch. I don't know about the pie crust, but the filling was made from boxed pudding and had whipped cream on top. I realize that cream pie to most means whipped cream, but for some reason I expect meringue. Must be where I am from. I guess it would say banana cream with meringue if that was the case. Anyway, super disappointed in the pie. It isn't homemade if you use Jell-O pudding. I do however realize that it's rare anymore to get true, from scratch pie. If I go back again, I will be skipping dessert. That all being said, it was a good experience and I wouldn't say no to going back, although the 16 year old with us said he hated it. lol We had to go to Taco Bell on the way back. But, he is 16, so you know how that is. Main reason for hate was bad internet connection. Owner did come out to ask how everything was, which was nice. The only bad thing is they don't take cards, so plan ahead and take cash. We knew that, so it wasn't an issue. Be sure you have reservations as they are only open from 4-8 on Saturday night and they are BUSY. Overall, positive experience. I'm a pie snob and have high standards in that area, so don't let that stop you from trying it for yourself. Worth the trip at least once! read more

Just happened upon this restaurant. Just moved to the area. You need reservations. We just walked in and they barely found us a table. The menu is limited, but everything we had was excellent. The people there are very friendly. Everything homemade and is only open a couple times a week for limited hours. Call before showing up as the yelp times open are incorrect. read more
