Just came back from Mayan Palace in Puerto Peñasco and it was such a relaxing escape! This resort is tucked away in a peaceful, isolated spot , but honestly, it has everything you need so you never feel far from fun. From a spa ‍, gym ‍, and bar to a convenience store , karaoke , games , and an on-site restaurant , there's something for everyone. The beach is just a short walk away , which made for gorgeous sunsets and easy morning strolls. Perfect for families ‍‍‍ -- they have a kids club , plenty of activities, and even kitchens in the rooms so you can cook your own meals if you want. I loved that you could spend the day lounging by the pool ‍, get a massage, enjoy live entertainment, or just chill with a coffee by the water . The staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. When in reality we had already paid their resort and daily tax fee. While it seems like a beautiful location, it is in the middle of nowhere with the city being a 30-45 minute drive. First you need to make sure you have a spare because there's over 30 holes on the road leading to the main entrance. When we got there and told them they said the that's a federal road and they can't do anything about it. You need to beware of how they charge your food. If you attend an event like the one we did for thanksgiving they charge all your food as an event item not food. Of course they don't tell you that until you checkout. The Grand Myan ids a wonderful family oriented resort even though there is a younger set who comes here. I have cm here for 3 years and have never been disappointed. The staff is exceptional and always willing to accommodate you. The other thing and I don't k ow how the do it, but the staff remembers you. They are amazing. Women you'll love this one.....there is no judgement whatsoever at how you look. The woman are natural body ranging from thin (they are the minority) to the average, to the full and fuller figured women. Guys are lucky as they can just let their beer bellies hang out lol. I just want women to know is that they should love their bodies and I have never noticed anyone being judgmental. The large restaurant where we usual eat dinner has excellent food and lots of it. Some what pricey, but worth it. Right now I came in from brunch with board shorts on, a bikini top with a tank top over it. I'm trying to say they are pretty casual about dress. At dinner it's ok to go in shorts and a nice top or you can wear a casual nice dress or skirt. When I first started coming I freaked out because you always see resort places where the women are dress to the nines. Don't worry....i say have a clean face and clean clothes and it's all good. I was always indifferent about tune shares and I'm so happy that we bought into it. One more thing I want to say is the beach is beautiful and if you're a shell person like I am, you've hit the jackpot. I have never been to any beach where I've seen some of the most beautiful shells. They are plentiful. Las year I collected enough shells to make a 7' mermaid in my yard. It's pretty spectacular. Oh my. I wish I could give zero stars for the management company, Vidanta. Do not, I repeat, do not go here. I wouldn't go back if they paid me. We purchased a stay and play at a charity auction for $1500 for 4 days. First, you can't really find much information on this place. We knew it wasn't in the hotel zone but we didn't know how far it was. It is 45 minutes from anything. There is nothing to do here. There is no options for jet skiing, horseback riding, fishing or anything entertaining nearby. On top of that, the road from the main road to the resort is over 15 minutes on a very primitive road. There is a bridge that is missing a railing and it is very dangerous. It had rained and since it was a dirt road, it was a complete mud bog. If you don't have 4 wheel drive, you will probably get stuck. When we arrived, they offered a "complimentary cocktail" but we declined. As soon as we got into the room, we received a call stating we had to go to the lobby the next day to meet with the activities coordinator. (Timeshare pitch) Since we had no intention of buying a Timeshare, we declined. This hotel is in an incredible state of disrepair. There is a massive, ominous building in between Mayan Palace and Grand Mayan that looks like something from a zombie movie. Huge chunks of concrete are missing and you can see exposed rebar. When you're on the lazy river, it is all you can see and it is terrifying. You will not see this on the Vidante website. Given the size of the structure, I do not imagine it will go anywhere in the next 20 years. At breakfast, it was raining. The ceiling was leaking in at least 30 spots and it was literally raining inside. The staff put down beach towels and struggled to keep walkways dry. There were soaking towels everywhere during our $30 a piece breakfast. Inside the lobby entrance chunks of the ceiling had fallen down and the staff was struggling to keep the area clear. On one side of the building, towels were put at every door to keep the rooms from flooding from the rain. The hotel has zero proper drainage and there was standing water everywhere. The beach is a complete mess. They do not groom it at all like most resorts. The first day, we used the lazy river and the swim up bar. We spent a ton of money on food and drinks. (The food is really good, but really pricey for Mexico)Toward the end of the day, we did the lazy river again. When we got out, we were met by a security guard stating that we didn't have access to the swim up bar or the river. My fiancé was upset by this as we were never told that there are areas of the property that we didn't have access to. There is also no markings of any areas that are "off limits" to anyone. This was super upsetting after paying $1500 and spending so much money at the resort. He went to the front desk, where he was told that if we listened to the pitch, we'd get access to the rest of the resort and get a ocean facing room instead of our horrible view room that we had. We again declined and decided to go to a different resort for our remaining days. We packed up and moved to Las Palomas and had an amazing 3 days. What's worse is that I know when I post this, I'll receive the same auto response as all the other bad reviews. They do not care that we had a terrible experience and had to spend an additional $600 to move to an acceptable resort. It isn't the staff's fault. They did their absolute best and they were all very sweet. The management company should be ashamed. I can't imagine anyone buying into this Timeshare with the state of the property. Take your money and spend it at Las Palomas or Sonoran Sky. Drinks and food are way cheaper, there's more to do, and the beach is cleaner. read more

Puerto Peñasco or Rocky Point is still way off being fully developed. The Mayan is a resort at the waters edge that is all most in the middle of no where. Its about a 15-20 min drive from the road to the valet. Twists turns and dirt. The staff is amazing and the pool and gym are cool also. The food is expensive and terrible. Not much to do here once the sun goes down. Minimum 30 min drive into town for decent food and groceries. Some one the rooms smell like a sewage. We had to have the fan on the whole time. One the day the electricity went out and they didn't even offer hot water or coffee to the guests. They will try to get you to go to the informative talks to buy a time share like property even tho they aren't technically time share. The Grand Mayan next door has awesome rooms but again same food and their pool was under repair. Still needs so much development, I wouldn't come back until 5-10 more years. read more

The grand Mayan, not so grand; still good enough. This place is a very beautiful property in the coast of Baja, in Mexico about 20 miles south of Puerto Peñasco. For that reason it's very secluded and private. You feel like you're in your own world and everyone else just lives in it. If vacation and relaxation with no rush to go into PP The Grand Mayan is the place for you. Where the clock had no time and relaxation begins. The property is BEAUTIFUL! With pools and lazy river, beautiful beach and nice off white sand. Happy hours through out the day, will not make you leave the pool or bar. However, you have to have the right bracelet in order to partake in the pool with the lazy river. No mingling allowed. You pretty much stay to your designated pool area. WiFi. It's extra. I know business is business, but it's also 2018, and most, if not all have some sort of complimentary WiFi service. Especially keeping in mind that A) you're in the middle of nowhere, so service is not as good as when you're in Rocky Point. B) 80% of the guests are from the US, so not having a Telcel/Movistar SIM card is a high possibility. Therefor the signal is weak and a little frustrating. Most resorts have decent food but the Mayan Palace and Grand Mayan have been extraordinary. The "snack bar" at the Mayan Palace pool offes a four page menu and everything we've had was great. Since we're in Mexico, I'd recommend the Ceviche or Augachilie. Both are seafood (fish or shrimp) cooked using the acid of citrus instead of heat. For the less adventurous, quesadilla and burgers were good too. The Grand Mayan pool offers mostly pizzas. I'm sure they're all good but we liked the Mulata and Bufalina. They were a good combination of red sauce, white sauce with toppings to please everyone. Arturo was possibly the best waiter of our trip! The only traditional restaurant on property includes a buffet. Some nights it's all buffet and others feature a choice of protein with the buffet as your sides. The steak and salmon night also had tuna and it was easily the best of all. Prices are reasonable for food this good. Lunches were usually around $50-75 and dinners were $75-125. Considering the resort is 30 minutes from the nearest store and there's not a full kitchen in your suite, they could probably charge more but I'm sure there would be complaints. This has been the best culinary experiences we've had. We'll be back to the Mayan properties throughout Mexico! Prices are based on three adults (over 14) and one child. read more

Most stressful vacation of my life, Keeping track of my receipts has always worked out in the past, up to 90% accuracy. This hotel legitimately stole over $600 worth of charges on a 3 day trip. My receipts showed 24 transactions for a total of $8,536 pesos. When we checked out it was $17,936 pesos in charges for 3 days. The room was smaller than a motel 6, they have more workers than they know what to do with, and will charge you for extra toilet paper, to single use napkins. Pure scam, rooms are outdated, laundry is non functional, and my SUV suspension was damaged, mud & clay stuck to the undercarriage, & bent rims & damaged tires with rock damage. The bridge to the resort is damaged, the roads leading in & out were worse than when I was in Iraq during the war. 22 miles of deadly unpaved roads, I feel sorry for anyone that owns a timeshare here. Oh and they harass you to buy one also. There is nothing near by, and the resort is draining your back account as you sleep. The resort WiFi caused multiple attempts of my private emails & Microsoft to be accessed, multiple password requests. read more

The rooms were semi adequate. I was surprised that there was no full sized fridge, no oven, no dishwasher. There was only warm water (not hot) for baths and showers the first few days we were here. Normally not a huge deal but it was cooler than normal weather and they don't have "hot" tubs (semi-warm tubs at best). They seem to nickel and dime you for every request or need. There are parts of the resort that are dilapidated and you can see they are short money as half the resort property remains unfinished. The Joy Squad is really what earned the 3 stars as they were great and went to great efforts to entertain our kids and us while poolside. If they finished the property and worked on accommodating guests I may rate higher. They really need to heat their hot tubs and make sure hot water hits the rooms. We also had two adjoining rooms and when we checked in only had access to one room for the first three hours we were here until a staff member could remove and fix the door. Bar staff was fantastic. The Resorts back-end system is a disaster. So much confusion with the room and bill. Had to have my room access reprogrammed 6 of the 7 days we were there, sometimes multiple times a day/night. The sales pitch is worse than buying a used car from "that part" of town. Get what they promise you in writing before attending, staff backed out of agreements and benefits made verbally. We were unaware of their policy "if an agreement wasn't written down" they would not honor it. The only decent meal can be had at the pool bar 11am - 7pm hours. The one, yes one restuarant rivals your local Hiltion Garden Inn in terms of quality and offerings, not to mention it's a buffet, every meal. Venture into town for a proper meal and true Puerto Penasco experience. A quick 35 min (one way) car ride or $50 round trip by taxi gets you there. It is extremely apparent that all the resorts in this desolate and removed part of "town" is cash strapped and hemorrhaging money ever apparent by the unfinished buildings and obvious corners cut in hospitality and aggressive sales staff. When you are offered a 40k timeshare and the price dips to 2k by the end of the sales pitch something is clearly wrong. Our group has stayed at the Grand Mayan in Puerto Vallarta previously and had similar expectations. However, these expectations did not only fall short but felt embarrassed that we had invited guests that had never been to a Grand Mayan and this was their experience. It is curious why Grand Mayan would continue to put their name on such a subpar partially done project. Our group will have to take this as merely a learning experience and travel to a place that can meet the minimalist of expectations. read more

I have never posted a trip review on the internet before; however, this years' experience made me feel I needed to inform others of my experiences in an effort to help them avoid the aggravation and financial mistake I made purchasing from Vidanta (Grupo Mayan). I have condensed this review from a 3- page document I originally wrote but was way too long to post; unfortunately, I had to leave out a lot of details. My family's adventure started on Friday, October 5th, 2018. About 20 minutes from the Mayan resort I found myself driving behind a large Vidanta bus so I couldn't see the road conditions in front of me. I was caught totally unprepared when I started driving through a flowing river of water. Even though I tried to utilize the wake from the Vidanta bus, the water was still half way up the side of the doors of my Lexus hybrid (electric) vehicle. My family and I were terrified. When we arrived at the resort I expressed my concerns that we had not been notified of the hazardous road conditions. I was told that the road had been flooded for several days but that it was not Vidanta's fault - nobody informed Vidanta that water was going to be released from a dam. I expressed that although it was not Vidanta's fault that the road was flooded, Vidanta had plenty of time to contact guests (they have both our phone and email information) if they cared at all about our safety. Vidanta took no accountability for failing to contact us and putting us in a dangerous situation nor did they even offer us a simple apology. Even though I made my reservations 6 months in advance on Monday, April 2nd (April 1st was Easter Sunday), I was told there were no Grand Mayan rooms available and was placed at the Mayan Palace. When I checked-in the Hostess gave us a Mayan Palace bracelet which would not allow us to use the amenities of the Grand Mayan resort such as the more luxurious pool or the lazy river. To make a very long story short, I had to fight to get the amenities I pay for. In addition, although we paid for a luxurious Grand Mayan room with a beautiful view, we got a Mayan Palace room that had a couch with pee stains, a bathmat with holes and a view of a maintenance facility. Although I have spoken with at least four high ranking members of Vidanta in the past, I set up another meeting to raise my concerns. I met with a nice gentleman named Victor. I have to admit I appreciated the empathy that Victor showed when I told him about my concerns and it appeared that he sincerely wanted to help me. After breakfast Victor wanted to check the inventory of Grand Mayan units to see if he could help facilitate transferring me to a Grand Mayan unit. When we arrived at the Sales Office he introduced me to Abraham Benitez, the Sales Manager. Mr. Benitez said he found a Grand Mayan room for me and asked Victor if he had presented me with a solution to my problem. Mr. Benitez stated that he was going to do me a favor and tell me what other Vidanta personnel had failed to tell me in the past. He explained that since 2004 there have been several contract updates and the people who have taken advantage of those updates have priority over me in getting a Grand Mayan unit. I mentioned that when the new Grand Mayan tower is finally completed I should be able to get a Grand Mayan room. He said the new tower would not help me get a room and again stated that the people with the upgraded contracts would have priority of me. Mr. Benitez asked me if I was there for a solution and I said yes. He stated that the only thing I could do to get a room at the Grand Mayan was to upgrade my contract. At this point I got irritated and pulled out a piece of paper and started taking notes. I said, "let me make sure I'm understanding what you are saying. Although Vidanta has a contractual obligation to give me a Grand Mayan unit, you are saying that unless I pay an additional $9,300 to upgrade my contract I will never get a Grand Mayan room." My changed demeanor aggravated him and he said something very closely to, "if you are going to act that way then maybe I shouldn't transfer you to a Grand Mayan room". I told him that was his choice and then he stated that he would honor his word. He then clarified what he said previously, "What I am telling you is that unless you upgrade your contract you will not receive anything different than what you have received in the past". I thanked him for being so honest with me as his words make it totally clear that Vidanta had no intention of honoring my contract. As a side note, there was a misunderstanding between Vidanta employees and I was not transferred to a Grand Mayan room. My original room was #2323 and I was transferred to room #2518 which is a Mayan Palace room with an ocean view. In closing, all I want is to be treated with respect, for Vidanta to protect the safety of my family and to be given the products and services I have paid for. read more

We had a great time at the Grand Mayan! Our room had an exceptional view to the calm and beautiful Mar del Cortez.....At the beginning for the check in, it was a little bit disorganized, but overall service was excellent. They are following regulations for COVID 19, they have sanitation areas all over the installations. All employees were very kind and friendly. This place is a joke! It's in the middle of nowhere you have to take dirt roads to get out to it it's 20 miles outside of town so it's all by itself. The restaurant is only a par restaurant I wouldn't give it no more than a 2star !! We got here I know it's off-season but the hotel was only at 10% capacity. When I booked our room I was told they had no one-bedrooms available they were booked out it forced me to get a two bedroom and pay more!!! We arrived on Monday the 16 th and checked out on the 20th. The grounds are beautiful. The food is good, I am not a fan of the buffet. Ever Night they offer a different dinner, but it is still an over priced meal. The spas need to be hotter, they are not even a 100 degrees. All the checks have a 10% tip already added to the bill. They don't tell you that unless you ask. We drove into town twice and had a great time. It is only 30 min to town. The staff at the hotel are very helpful, they try hard to make sure that you are happy. It has been windy for 2 of the days, maybe it is timing. read more

A short (20 minute) drive from town, but just to view the grounds alone is worth the trip. Absolutely gorgeous hotel! We enjoyed a quiet, serene beach front lunch out by the pool. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp with grilled veggies and they were excellent! Boyfriend opted for shrimp tacos (it IS shrimp season!) and they were very tasty. Fresh tortillas and house made salsa were fantastic! We will definitely venture back for another meal. read more

However the management who is in charge of the time share are rude as fuck. My family and I are a party of 11. We had considered buying the time share , but needed time to discuss it. The commitment is 10 YEARS. That's not something you can just make a decision on in under 5 minutes. the guys who was helping us the whole Time was great . Very patient and answered all of our questions. He saw we were iffy about saying yes and called his manager over . This guy was so rude to my family and I . Instead of trying to make a deal like a idiot . He told us. "I need a decision today , take it or leave it " . who the fuck says that. We bought into VidantaResorts here but probably won't come back to this property. The rooms are standard. The food is mediocre at best. We were here the last week in October and the flies were overwhelming. The staff is friendly but they don't go out of their way. We drove from Phoenix which is the only selling point. The resort is 30 minutes from town and the town itself is not much to visit. A Malecón and a street of tourist shops and pharmacies. Overall not my choice for a resort vacation! We love being here. Everything is wonderful. But why is everyone talking about how much to tip??? When I try to leave 15% it's not enough. The reason? There is a 10% charge added fro. The resort. I didn't understand and gone too small of a tip bug was ridiculed but my server. Bull shit! Never has this happened before. read more

Enjoyed two nights at The Grand Mayan. The Nicklaus getting lf course on the property was world class. The staff was well trained and eager to serve. Food in the restaurant was also top notch. This is a great place to stay outside of Rocky Point. read more

Just an average resort that is understaffed and isolated. Took close to an hour to get a meal at restaurant and same goes for drinks near the pool/beach. Glad I wasn't stuck here without a car and I'm definitely not interested in staying here again. read more
