This place is a riot. Drag queens touching up their makeup in the bathroom. Middle-aged women singing their hearts out and shamelessly shaking tail in the middle of the bar. No, the bartenders aren't that friendly, but I'm not exactly their type (yeah, I'll admit-- I'm probably the "gentrified" infiltrator everyone's complaining about). For what it is, this place is great. On my last business trip out to Dallas I met some friends who took me here. The drinks are good, especially for frozen drinks and their Happy Hour specials are the jam. It's a little run down, though. My favorite type of bar, when it's not too crowded and the drinks are priced for Happy Hour. I like that this place is not absolutely surrounded by other bars and restaurant but is still close by for a bar crawl. I like the quirky decor and patio as well. The previous reviews weren't joking. This place is AWESOME! I decided to stop by for a drink during happy hour before going to dinner. My friend and I walked in and were transported from Cedar Springs and Maple to one of the best dive bars I've been to, period. We were promptly greeted by the barkeep. He asked if it was my first time and I said yes. He responded that the first round of drinks was on the house! SCORE! We got out drinks and walked out to the patio that was outfitted with a basketball hoop. I really can't explain it. There are so many different things going on in this one small location, but it all works. You have your trend hipsters standing around drinking beers, you'll get your business men having glass of whiskey, you'll have your ladies enjoying a girls night and having mixed drinks, and you'll get random people like me who just stumble through only to realize that this may very well have to become a frequent hangout spot. All the people who I met that night were friendly and open. GVB is a great place to come and relax, to have a drink, to work on your social skills ;), and ultimately to be in a venue that even if you're visting for the first time, you'll feel part of the club. read more

Horrible place with horrible customer service. Was yelled at for no reason by the bartender and was very rude to my friends. I'm sure the drinks are great and all, but I prefer places that are actually nice and respect their customers. L-O-V-E the Grapevine. Any place that serves Everclear in frozen drinks and advertises it wins a spot in my heart. The place is super funky and seems really small from the outside but once you get inside, the basketball court and patio win your heart. The music is always good, the clientele eclectic, and the drinks are very tasty and strong. Out of all the frozen drinks, I prefer the Bellini. Also, this place gets major points for having a JUKE BOX. This is the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and have a drink surrounded by fun people and a great patio atmosphere. Maple is a little shady further up the way and the small dirt parking lot is full of holes and can be not so great to find a spot in but you can always park along the side street. Grapevine Bar did have some perks. Really cool/divey atmosphere, diverse crowd, cool patio area. Drinks were STRONG and CHEAP, parking is free and ample (huge plus in this neighborhood), and everyone there appeared chill and open. My experience at the end of the night, however, left me with a bad taste in my mouth and turns me off to the idea of ever going there again. While having fun with friends, rarely do I take out my phone. This was the case that night. I was not aware of the time and went to the bar to get another drink. I had an open tab, got two drinks (which I had to wait an extra 10 mins for as the bartender had to school someone on how his drink order was wrong). There was no mention of closing my tab. AS SOON AS I MAKE IT BACK TO MY SEAT an employee was extremely rude and tells our table "IT'S TWO A.M. GET UP, AND GET OUT OF HERE." I simply say, "Oh, wow, I didn't even hear it was last call. I had no idea." She looks me dead in the eye and then says, even in an almost cut-throat tone, "I need you to GET UP and GO." With two FULL drinks in my hand (my friend was in the restroom) I had to make my way to the bar to close my tab, which easily could have been closed when I ordered those last two drinks. I wasn't going to chug my drink, so I left a nearly full glass there. I left disappointed. read more

This is an excellent spot to bring a fun and open minded date. The crowd is colorful and animated. The drinks are strong and cheap. I'm a sucker for dive bars...this is a dive bar, and I loved it. Note the 5 star is that it's "As good as it gets!" for a dive bar, not the best bar in the history of ever. Great dive bar with strong and cheap drinks. You must try their Suicide Bellini- strong and you can't even taste the alcohol. A Long Island iced tea and suicide bellini ran me about $12. If you're going- you will be best sitting outside. Not a lot of room in the building but plenty of room outside with an outside bar. Went here for the first time for a friends birthday & it was such a good time! Santiago was such a pleasure at the bar, answering any questions we had. Drinks were great & reasonably priced! The bar has chargers on it like looks like dangling lights. How convenient & creative. The music & atmosphere was great. Everyone was so friendly. Amazing place. My first time here, I asked for a mojito but the bartender didn't have mint. Instead He made me a really strong cucumber drink that was awesome. When he found out I was new to Dallas and it was my first time, first drink was on the house! That itself earns 5 points! We had a party at the patio which is really cool with the twinkling lights. The Grapevine has great energy, and a great mix of people from blue collar mechanic, to old highland park lady, to tranny, to Dallas socialite, to do or die chicks, to hood rats, to old washed up punks. First time visit. Might be last time. I work nearby, so super convenient. However...I was ignored by the waitress when I first got to the happy hour gathering. After her second visit to the table, I had to get her attention and ask for a drink. This persisted throughout my stay. Imagine small town, college dive bar. This is it. Or better yet, imagine a friend's house with 2 built in bars inside. This is it too. When you first walk in, they have couches for seating, pool table in the next room, another bar in the back and then you reach the infamous backyard/patio with a basketball hoop with picnic tables scattered around. It really does feel like you're at someone's house having drinks. It's quite homey if you ask me. I wish we had more bars like this back home because it's an awesome place to just chill and enjoy the warm night weather of Texas.
