All us concert folks who got shafted by the Great Asshat.
    Ryan S.

Great Saltair? More like Great Asshat. We arrived 30 minutes before our concert was supposed to start and were stuck in traffic for almost 2 hours. We missed the two opening bands--yup, completely missed them. We missed them because they made us park 2 miles away and we had to walk to the venue. Didn't know you'd be going on an outdoor mosquito adventure did ya? Well that's just part of the freaking Saltair experience. "Don't they have a bus shuttle system?" Oh, yeah they do! If you're okay with missing the two opening acts and half the last band. It's faster to walk. Literally. So many people wait in line we got to our car before most got on the bus. Band Managers: Please for the love of all things do not book your band here. This place sucks ass. I refuse to see any band here ever again. I wouldn't come back to see the Beatles if they were resurrected! Because I'd miss them because I would be stuck in traffic or walking two miles to the venue.

A remnant of the past... The Saltair itself is a largely empty space. It does have an interesting history. From afar it looks like a strange structure built on the shore of the Great Salt Lake. It sits by itself... no other building or town near it. From up close it looks like a strange structure built on the shore of the Great Salt Lake. LoL It looks abandoned. We must've gotten there around 6:00p on a Sunday evening. It was closed but there was a sign in the front entrance to the parking lot describing itself as a concert venue. We wandered in through an open gate to discover the once elegant property is now the venue for late night concerts and raves. The building resembles a mosque with moorish architecture -- domes, horseshoe arches. The domes looks like the onion dome of the Taj Mahal. Interesting bit of history: Saltair I - completed in 1893. Partly owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Destroyed by fire on April 22, 1925 Saltair II - revived but attempts over the next decade to breathe new life into the resort finally ended in November 1970. Destroyed by arson fire. Saltair III - as it stands today. Constructed out of a salvaged US Air Force aircraft hangar and located approximately a mile west of the original. Many investors from the music industry pooled together to purchase the building and are now holding regular concerts here. Three bands/groups are scheduled for this year 2020: Monday, August 24 - PARKWAY DRIVE (heavy metal band from Australia) Wednesday, September 23 - MARSHMELLO (DJ with Genres: Dance/Electronic, Pop) Friday/Saturday, December 11/12 - EXCISION (Genre: Dance/Electronic) There you have it... Went in winter just to see the lake. The building was surrounded by a fence as it was closed. I definitely will return once it's open and active so I can get a better idea of what it's about.

This place was okay. I drove all the way from Phoenix to see Queens of the Stone Age here. It's absolutely gorgeous on the outside! It has a very regal appearance reimeniscent of classic Turkish architecture and its surroundings are beautiful. It's situated along The Great Salt Lake so there's some stunning lake views. As for the inside, it's large, but how the room is distributed is ineffective. The floor is large and it does not have an incline like some venues so the back rows can actually see the stage. Here the entire floor is one level, so anyone can easily block your view. In addition, the doors under the bar on the first level are always open for smokers so the smoke comes in and so does the cold, be sure to bring a jacket in the colder months, the venue doesn't get too warm. Also, the views upstairs by the bar were not optimized, so it was packed almost immediately and a good view unblocked was hard to come by. A lot of reviews complained about parking but it wasn't bad for this show, the walk was relatively short and parking had cost only $5.

By far, the most craptastic music venue in the state. Possibly even the western hemisphere. We started our night extremely excited to go see one of our fav musical geniuses, and headed out to Magna. We get off the highway and see it off in the distance and a gigantic line of cars waiting to presumably park. I figured parking would cost something, that's pretty standard. However, I did not expect to be given a choice of parking in the actual parking lot of Saltair for $10 or the cheaper parking lot for $5, which the dude said was approx. 2 miles away. Yeah, no. I guess we will be taken for $10, thanks. The line to get in wrapped around the building, but we spotted a shorter line and got in it, and started asking people what it was for. Nobody knew, but some guy said we needed a wristband to get in, despite having tickets. We asked where the wristbands are and he said you had to get them from a security guy roaming around. My boyfriend set off to find the roving wristband man while I stood in the line nobody knew why they were standing in. After about 20 mins, the BF comes back and says he found wristband guy, but he wouldn't give him one because our tickets needed to be exchanged at will-call. Apparently since we purchased them online and printed them out, they weren't legit enough. Oook. At this point we've wasted almost an hour between parking and finding the damn wristband guy. We find the will-call line, and waited for another 15-20 minutes When we got to the window, our illegitimate paper printout tickets with barcodes were exchanged for a couple of tear off raffle-type tickets. LOL!! They gave us wristbands, too, so that cut out a little more frustration. We look back and the line around the building is just getting longer and longer and people tell us they have been waiting for over an hour to get in.Yay. Anyway, we manage to line hop with some new friends and get in the venue rather quickly, where we stand in another horrific line to get our over 21 wristbands and be allowed upstairs. The concert was happening outside and I could hear the preshow already happening, but at this point we've missed so much, a few more minutes to get a few drinks and go pee should be ok, right? Wrong. Drink lines were semi long, but we managed to get a few beverages. When I hopped in the bathroom line (for the single and only bathroom in the entire building for thousands of people) I found out that the wait was approximately 45 minutes there, too. I waited because I really, really had to go, but I held it for the rest of the night, which is quite a feat when you're dancing and hot and drinking lots of liquids and the show doesn't end until after 1 am. What a horrible, horrible mess. My mood was kind of sour. The balcony outside was horrible for viewing the show downstairs. The only place you could actually see the performers was the far left tiny corner of the balcony. We heard a lot of great music but didn't get to SEE anything. When the headliner came on we went downstairs and squeezed into the crowd. The lawn was hazardous with uneven turf and random chunks of concrete to trip you at a moment's notice. Security people were kind of douchebaggy, especially the female in the bathroom ordering women in and out and screaming at you to hurry up when trying to wash your hands. I had a good time during the headline portion of the show, but it sucked that I had to be down there amongst the 14 year old children to get a good view. After we left, the parking lot was a complete nightmare and all the people who were directing traffic on the way in had disappeared so it was a freak show. If you weren't a jerk and pushing your car out there, you would never leave the place. We were fairly aggressive and we still sat in the parking lot for over an hour just trying to leave. I will never ever go to a show here again if I can help it. Terrible from beginning to end.

    View from the highway.

Super cool place that pops out of nowhere. Was not sure what it was and wanted to explore. A music hall! This would be a cool venue! I'd love to learn more. There is a small water hole behind with some birds making interesting noises. Many beautiful bird songs to hear.

The moment I stepped outside of the venue and was standing at the second level--I can see the beautiful mountains and salt flats. I'm a big fan of nature and sunsets, so this experience was surreal and eerie. The sounds of the music and being able to see the crowd was amazing. I spent more time outdoors than I did indoors. No issues with ticketing, restrooms and ordering drinks. They were moving pretty fast. I can't comment on parking since we took a party bus to the venue, but the drive-in and drop off wasn't complicated. The building itself has this "moorish" influence exterior, but not all original from what I understood. Still a bit vintage, unique and cool looking. The inside is an open space. I don't recall any seating. Mainly a standup setting with two levels. I look forward to coming back to this venue again this year to experience it different seasons/time.

Getting there was a little rough. I came in from the mountain corridor side, and it was a very slow moving line to get in, so I'd plan on getting there early. Because I was a little later, I ended up in the Camry lot. This lot is up a hill so the walk back was a hike, but because of its location, it does allow for a quick getaway instead of being stuck in the lower closer lots waiting for the people to walk through and for all the other cars. Even with the long walk, I got out of the venue before most people and was able to quickly get back on the Mountain View corridor. The amphitheater itself is stunning. I love the general admission grass section. The views of the city and sunset were beautiful. Amazing vibes. The security here is INTENSE about bags. I had a small clutch which is allowed and they look out EVERYTHING that I had in it. Like she literally went through every single pocket. The food options are extremely limited and it is a Pepsi venue. I needed to eat so I got a Pepsi zero (they only had Diet Pepsi in one fridge and it was for a line that didn't sell food) and a personal size pepperoni pizza and it came out to THIRTY DOLLARS??? You're joking. The pizza was just okay. The people in front of me got two tall cans of liquid death water and it was $16. A tall can of water for $8 on a hot night is criminal, but I guess they can do what they want since there is no other option. Overall, I would recommend going to a show here. The vibes are super fun and everyone was dancing. The views are beautiful and the grassy section is lovely. I would just recommend eating beforehand and planning to spend a lot if you do end up buying any food or beverages. Oh and of course Pitbull was amazing and totally killed it.
