We like this music venue a lot too. Close to our home in downtown, (located at The Gatewat, near Asher Adams apartments) we can technically take a walk there if we want (15-20 minutes) to skip the traffic and metered parking. It's large enough for a more popular band, but intimiaye enough so you can still feel somewhat close to the stage. It has an upper mezzanine as well. The bar definitely has some snacks, which is nice. It gets pretty stuffy in there though. Some faves we have seen there include Hanabie, Armor for Sleep, and most recently Bloodywood! read more

I rarely go out but I must admit I had an outstanding time for the R&B concert mainly due to both the music but most of all the service by Memo, Jon, Zinneson, and Matt. The security has gone completely fascist w/ the restrictive and way over assertive over zealous security. the drink are ridiculously overpriced. the venue reals like a great grill pit that should have been changed years ago. for the price they charge this is definitely NOT a place for an enjoyable evening, the venue is so uncomfortably locked down it's round the ambiance and makes it impossible to enjoy the live music. The staff was incredibly unhelpful and rude to my friend who bought a ticket on Seat Geek for 90 dollars and was scammed. They told me that it's clear on their website that they only sell with Ticketmaster and that she should've checked before buying (I have looked at the website and it isn't clear.). I had already scanned my ticket and asked if there was anything they could do to help to get her a ticket since a group of 6 of us had all come out together, and we all didn't want to leave her alone while the rest of us went to this show. I also asked if we could figure this out just at the ticket window inside since it was 20 degrees out and freezing. I was told there was nothing they could do and we couldn't wait inside. My friend was graciously transferred a Ticketmaster ticket by someone who was jut going to go home without going in. My friend needed help with her Ticketmaster account, and didn't realize that her bag wasn't allowed to this rave and needed help hiding it. I was already let off the premises by one lady to help her try and get in while everyone else waited inside since it was so cold, but I was the told that I couldn't go help her because my ticket had been scanned, by a woman who had been there when my ticket was scanned and when I was let off the premises the first time to try and figure this out . I tried to explain why she needed help and if I could just go 2 feet away to try and help her look for a spot to hide her bag and then we would come back over to finish the ticket problem. I was told that my friend should be able to hide the bag "unless she's on illegal substances and took something she shouldn't tonight."this was completely unprecedented, and unprofessional from a security guard where this is her job to help in these situations. I told her that was disrespectful, and that my friend is just anxious about her bag being stolen and wants my help since there's no obvious spot to hide it. I asked her if she knew of any recommendations to hide it to tell her since I know we aren't the first people to go through this and if I am not allowed to help her we would just like some advice. she told me she wouldn't help me. She then told me to call my friend over so she could speak to her. I got my friend over to the gate and the security guard walked away? And said she didn't need to talk to her. I told my friend the situation and to go hide the bag, we then figured out tickets and were able to go in. My friend lost her wallet in the process, and we were told by another security guard that we should get a different friend to go out there because the other security was really mad at us and wouldn't help us. Genuinely unprofessional, and disrespectful. This review is crazily long and so I am leaving some things out, but the disrespect continued. read more

Cool intimate venue. Great sound. Weird VIP additional ticket area. We had a great time seeing Bella White and The Paper Kites. FYI about the balcony logistics. The upper balcony is usually divided into a few areas. From back to front... The highest area (where the bar is) usually open to all (21+), but getting a good view means getting here early. Next level down is the "VIP Club" area and requires an additional ticket ($20 for this concert). See photos. Last area down to the front of the balcony are VIP Suites which are clearly the best seats, but aren't for you. The VIP club area is somewhat disappointing. The view is worse than the upper non-VIP area, but you don't have to arrive to early. It's also arguably worse view than the floor, although less crowded, and you do have access to wait staff, if you can get their attention. If the people in the suites stand up, you won't see any of the stage from the "VIP Club" area, so you'll have to watch the big screens mounted nearby. Next time I'll think twice about the VIP Club area, and may just arrive a bit earlier. read more

This venue is a gem in the heart of SLC! The security is solid, complete with weapon detectors and bag checks! Once inside, the ambiance is vintage and the owners kept the integrity of the Union Pacific Depot. I was impressed how clean it was, especially the women's restrooms! At the beginning of the night, the stalls were filled with all the necessities and maintained their quality throughout the night. The walls are decorated with intriguing images and posters of showers. There is a coat check at the entrance if you choose. There are a lot of stairs to the upper levels, but there is an elevator that seemed to function well. One of the most impressive parts of the night was that they had what seemed like a small bar, but it was almost a full bar! The bartenders could make any drink I asked for, and the employees were super nice! I adored seeing my show at this venue, and I'd love to return. read more

Had the worst experience at this place last night. Ended up leaving. There are WAY too many rules in that place, you have workers acting like AHoles to you the whole night. First of all, even to get to the main area to watch the artist/band you have to go up two flight of stairs. The. If you need to use the bathroom you have to go up three flight of stairs. The lines for the merch table is way to long that we missed two bands before getting to the merch table. At other venues there is multiple lines, one for each band c so if you want merch just from a certain artist, you don't have to wait in line just for others to get theirs from the more longer line. After all that I went up with some friends to the 3rd floor to get some drinks from the bar, after that we wanted to go to the 2nd floor to see the band. We were told we couldn't take the drinks with us that we would have to chug them or toss them. Mind you, we're in doors, the second floor has a bar as well, it don't make sense. Other venues with multiple bar locations don't care where you walk around with the drink. So we tossed them. Then getting to the bar in that other floor they didn't have alcohol! We had to go to this little tiny bar in a corner, so I did, there was no one in line. I went to the bartender, this worker flashed her flashlight in my face and yelling at me because I didn't go though the start of the ropes. There was no one in line! I couldn't order unless I went around to the beginning of the line and walked though the little line. Mind you this was a sold out show, the place is so packed, there is hardly anywhere to stand. I got yelled at, not asked politely, yelled at by another worker that I couldn't stand where I was, that I had to move, there was no where else to stand, I was next to the sound booth, there was many others standing there too watching the show, I was the only one asked. Overall worse experience I've had at a show. I've been to all the different venues halls here in SLC, this was just bad. read more

I've been to countless concerts in SLC, but somehow this was my first time at The Depot. For being a larger venue, the sound quality was pretty incredible. It was a packed house, but with the tiered levels most people could have a decent view of the stage without having to pay extra. I think the venue must have read some of the previous reviews about the security, because they weren't nearly as psycho as they have been in the past. Not only were they genuinely friendly, but they weren't like most concert security who always seem to try everything in their power to make you have a bad time. However, I can see how less-strict security could make people feel unsafe. The venue and the bathrooms were very clean. The merch and drink lines moved pretty quickly. But like most music venues, they do charge outrageous amounts for drinks and upgrading to seats. Overall, I was happy with my first visit to The Depot! I think although the previous complaints about the strictness of security are valid, they're also strict for a reason. read more

BY FAR one of the best experiences ever! I went to Restless Road with some friends, with just general admission tickets that were only $11!! STEALER DEAL! We got there about an hour and a half early, parked in the gateway parking, advertised for $20 but it ended up being free! and were the 2nd people in line! Everyone in the VIP line got in before us and we still got the second row! It wasn't too crowded, we had enough move to move around, switch places, and dance! Our view was absolutely amazing! This venue is located in gateway which provides several options for parking and food before or after your event! I did pay for fast entry so I can't comment on the winding line down the street. The inside is an intimate floor layout with second floor balcony that doubles as a bar and has seating around the railing. I would've loved to sit up there but did not bring my ID - even if you don't want to drink but you want to be up there you must have an ID! There's really not a bad seat in the house. Even the view from the food/drink spot in the back is good. I paid $22 for chicken strips and fries which is ridiculous and took forever to come out but they were hot, offered a variety of sauces, and were nice in presentation. The bathrooms are on the second floor which is accesible by stairs or an elevator. There are tons of stalls so no waiting and were clean when I went! My only qualm is that if you don't want to get stuck waiting to leave after the event in the narrow hall ways and stairways they have, you have to leave a few minutes early. read more

I love live music and have been going to The Depot for years. Unfortunately, there are few live music venues in Salt Lake... So I end up at the Depot more often than I'd like. These are some of my complaints. FIRE EXITS are not clear.... The venue is on the 2nd and 3rd floors. With the amount of stairs there are I can't imagine trying to get out quickly, wheather it being from violence or fire. The ALL AGES SHOWS are a pain if you want to drink liquor. The last time I was at an all ages show this is how it worked.... All ages under AND over 21 were allowed on both floors. On the main floor people over 21 had a choice of drinking one kind of seltzer or one kind of beer. It was a makeshift bar and the line was incredibly long. Apparently, the main bar was not selling alcoholic beverages. On the 3rd floor people over 21 could buy liquor, but had to stay there. The worst part is, If you are not on the 1st row along the balcony you cannot see the stage. The rest of the floor is reserved seating. Every table on both floors you have to pay for in advance. The worst of the worst is their SECURITY POLICIES & PROCEDURES. They searched my pill box, ridiculous. Is ibuprofen or heart medicine people take at a certain time of the night not allowed? How about inhalers or blood pressure devices, are those not allowed? While security was searching purses I witnessed security telling a woman she could not bring her prescribed medicine in the original prescription bottle. They said she had to dispose of it or put it back in her car, if she had one. I see this as possibly an ADA VIOLATION, maybe? It is so wrong. The cocktail plastic cups are so tiny, I'm sure they use the same one for shots. I have one positive thing to say... In my opinion the bartenders are very nice! read more

Okay wow, I love this venue! I don't know how I've lived in SLC for so long and had never been here before this past weekend. First of all, I felt very safe here. I didn't realize there was a limit to the size of your bag, so heads up they only accept smaller bags into the venue unless it's clear! They have a metal detector upon entrance to the venue as well. Once inside you can choose between multiple levels of the venue to view the show, and although I didn't explore the entire venue, it seemed to me like there wasn't a bad seat in the house! The upper level has the bathrooms and a bar, and you can overlook the entire venue from a balcony. That dips down into a lower level where you can pay to be seated if you want to. At all ages shows, I believe this second level is 21-plus area and you aren't allowed to have drinks anywhere else if it's a show for people under 21. I believe that's what they told me. This show wasn't an all ages show, so you could bring your drinks anywhere throughout the venue, including outside in the smoking area. The downstairs level was intimate and didn't feel super crowded. We still got to get pretty close to the stage without feeling smothered by the crowd. The bathrooms again are only on the third level, so if you're down below you have to walk upstairs (or take the elevator) but they have SO many stalls which is always so nice! I feel like more concert venues (and bars honestly) need this many stalls! The only thing that was a little annoying about the venue was how difficult it was to get out of the venue after the show, it was super crowded, there's only one elevator, and the stairs got clogged up really quickly with people at the end of the show. Other than that, seriously love this venue! The staff was friendly, the bar was quick, the seats were all great. Can't wait to come back! read more

Dry cool venue. It's standing room only but you can get a seat with table service in the mezzanine for another $100. It's a bit much at first but not really when you factor in the comfortable chair, the view, and the table service. The waitress was super nice and attentive. I went to a show at the Depot this past weekend, and I enjoyed it. The venue was pretty cool and open, and the food was really good. I appreciated that the Depot was close to the train station so we didn't have to walk a ton to get there. The security was pretty strict about the bag policy, though, and two of our friends had to leave their bags in the bushes outside of the venue. We had the garlic cheese curds, which were insanely good and easily some of the best cheese curds I've ever had. We also had the garlic parmesan fries, which were good but also pretty average. I would definitely recommend the cheese curds over the fries. The drinks were good too, but a tad overpriced. To be fair, we were in downtown SLC where almost all drinks are overpriced so I wasn't that surprised. I had a peach AMF, though, and it was yummy. It was $15, but it came in a pretty big cup so I wasn't too upset by the price. read more

Wow - came to Utah from out of state to see a small band. My first concert back since pre-Pandemic so I wasn't sure what to expect. The staff took the safety precautions seriously: requiring face mask, proof of vaccine, proof of negative test, and even made me and my friend check-in a small bag at the coat check area since it was larger than their approved bag guidelines. The place is not big enough for how many people are here. Had to get beers on the 3rd floor and leave my daughter. I was hoping to grab a beer and join her. I've only been to the Depot twice. One time in 2018 to see Tank and the Bangas with Big Freedia and last night to see Twin Temple with Bridge City Sinners. Both times, the performers have been excellent. Last night, while we came to see Twin Temple, I was pleasantly surprised by Bridge City Sinners and found myself enjoying them even more than Twin Temple. I also want to add that the sound quality was excellent both times. Anyway, now to get to all the things I hate about the Depot. Both times, even in 2018, I have been annoyed with how they nickel and dime you at every opportunity. Like you see an amazing viewing opportunity and you walk towards it, only to be met with a member of the staff who tells you that you have to pay an extra $40/person to sit or stand there. Even in 2018, when the show had relatively low turn out and I'm sure the performers would appreciate more fans closer to the stage, those areas sat empty for the entirety of the show. There are even these obnoxiously gigantic screens right in front of the stage blaring advertisements all night long. As for last night? It gets worse. It was a cold and rainy October night. The kind of early season precipitation that catches people off guard, providing an opportunity for things like frost bite or hypothermia. The line is taking absolutely forever given the medium size crowd. When we get to the front, I find out why. It's because they are absolutely scrutinizing every single person. They tried to tell me that my very small fanny pack, barely big enough to hold my phone was too big and that next time I shouldn't bring it. Trust me, there will be no next time! The website says only clutches allowed so I thought this small bag would equate. Also, I'm the kind of person who is going to a Twin Temple show, do you think I own a clutch? I might as well carry my phone in my hand! The security woman told me, that a fanny pack is not a clutch and that I should have brought a clutch. Wow, so now they're dictating people's fashion choices? They're basically enforcing dress codes at a music venue! I haven't even gotten to the most ridiculous part yet! They make everyone empty their pockets and they actually confiscated my husband's mechanical pencil because they said that it could be used for graffiti. There is nothing in their policy about pens or pencils being marked as restricted items. We extensively reviewed it before we attended. It's more than what the average person would do and we still had to deal with a big hassle. We asked for it back at the end, and they said they don't return confiscated items. It was a nice pencil, one that he uses at work regularly. I was waiting in this ridiculous line with no coat or umbrella because I thought I was smart enough to check their restrictions beforehand and I didn't want to bring anything extra. The guy next to me in line had a boot for a foot injury with bare toes sticking out of it in the 30 degree rain! All so they could confiscate pencils? The least they could do is offer coat check so people can at least get their stuff back! I swear all this is a recipe for disaster. If there's a place where something tragic happens, it this place because they literally have zero compassion for their customers. Honestly this whole experience put us in a sour mood the whole night. The music was great but we kind of regretted coming. We would have had a lot better time doing anything else. I think next time I see a performer I want to see at the Depot, I would rather drive to Colorado or Vegas to see them than go through that security line one more time. read more

Wanted to catch a show while I was spending time in Utah so I was interested to see what this venue had to offer. I've become so accustomed to the venues I frequent and you never know what you are going to get when you check out a new place. I was pleasantly surprised! It's so easy to get to the venue, no matter driving and parking, walking or taking trax. You enter on the first floor, the stage is on the second floor, and there is a third floor with another bar and bathrooms. Since the show we went to was all ages, you could only drink at the bar on the third floor. I ended up watching the show drinkless downstairs because I thought it had the better view. I really liked the overall space, it's a small enough venue that you don't have a bad view in the place, but also big enough that you can hang in the back and not feel like you have no personal space. Granted I don't think the show we attended sold out, but it was still a great experience. For a concert venue, the bathrooms are well taken care of. They are clean and the stalls are plentiful. Never had to wait in line and didn't have to worry about totally trashed stalls! The staff were all so incredibly friendly, that's what really tipped me to five stars. I've had lots of experience with stoic or just outright rude venue staff but everyone here was so nice and helpful. From the guys wanding us out front, to the woman who took our tickets, to the guy checking IDs on the third floor, I give you all so many props and thank you! My only "negative" wasn't even a negative, just that I've heard better sound quality, but it was still pretty good! Highly recommend this place! read more

They treat their customers like garbage. Their one concern is making a buck. Everything is clean because they are more thorough than going through Airport customs so no one could get away with anything. I say this after a paying customer was told I couldn't bring my purse into the venue although it was completely empty and was the size of my phone. Purses aren't made that size. This is possibly one of the most disappointing venues I've ever been to. Security is rude and operates a draconian bag policy, literally measuring clutch bags with a ruler and making people throw bags away that are larger than 4x6 inches. There is no communication about the bag policy on the tickets, website or other communication about the show, just a placard by the door. Conveniently located next to the "garbage" can they're using to collect bags. Bands should stop booking this venue- their fans deserve better. Fans should boycott this place. Anyone who says this is a good place has clearly never left SLC or Utah. read more

Went to a concert last night. They had concerts the three nights before and ran out of food. People come to the concert expecting to eat dinner there. They knew they were out of food that morning. It's a simple fix- call a fee of truck or two, they have room in the fenced in area out front for this. Go to Costco, buy fries, corn dogs, pot stickers, whatever you can find, we know you have the kitchen to cook it in. Bought VIP seats, only to be surprised we were required to buy entry tickets as well. Such lack of communication. Need an option for NO stars on the rating. Disgusted! read more

May be the off (wo)man out here but I think this venue is awesome. Came here last night for Valentine's Day to see Wiz Khalifa and loved every second of it; the sound system was excellent, the subwoofers were bone shakingly good, the checkin process was seamless although the pat down was a little too meticulous imo, the bartenders were efficient and friendly, and most importantly, they didn't let too many people in!! That's the best part: not too many people who there is still room to move around and breathe. Definitely won't think twice before getting tickets to another concert here! read more

Okay rite to it. this venue is very over priced 65 for gen, witch i guess isn't too bad paid extra 75 for balcony, luxury cost i get it. but i get there and they want to charge me an extra 100 to actually sit in a seat. I went to this concert with my kid who has seizures so we had to sit so 200 added, then the menu had no prices kind of scared me so i kept it lite, ordered chicken fingers 1 beer and 1 soda came to 80 bucks before tip. I highly doubt any of this money is going to the artist , I'm very surprised this place is staying in business, no fault to the artist they where awesome and wont name them for fear of them getting some of the blame. read more

I just heard from a group that was at this venue Thur evening 1/18/24 and it was horrible !!! Apparently, they're under new ownership and they had employees running around picking up customer's jackets, putting them in trash bags and donating them to some charity or something like that. AND it's winter there and snowing !!! Don't you dare sit in a chair or they'll charge you $20 !!! I will be calling the Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau and Ticketmaster on Monday and register a formal complaint !!! Went ta see a comedy and the experience throughout was better than expected. Metal detectors makes sense for comedy shows involving hot topics. The two women at the ticket booth helped us find seats more appropriate for people with physical disabilities and we're a delight to speak with. Troy even escorted us to our seats...such a kind young man. Our server did not forget us while still being polite for the comedians and other guests. The food was a bit expensive, but the fries, tacos, and churro tasted great. read more

I forgot several years ago I went to see Keb'mo at The Depot. At that show they only sold GA tickets, then in arrival they had some prime areas that they would sell you access to for cash, and not a little bit of cash, hope the IRS is onto this revenue dodge. Went again last night for Christone Kingfish Ingram. Same ploy, pay ticketmaster 48 bucks each for 4 tickets, then offered seating at the venue for $50 - $80 bucks each, otherwise stand for the show, 3-4 hours. Two of my guests had physical disabilities, no accommodation, buy a seat or leave, one bought, the other left. Not acceptable and probably against some laws. Show was great! But in the future they could host the Rolling Stones and I wouldn't buy. Last comment, tickets advertised at 25, but when you were done with Ticketmaster they added 23 to each, for a total of 48, that's a whole other review! read more
