I have a pretty good handle on the Midtown/Woodbridge/Core City/New Center/Hamtramck lunch scene. I would say Toum's Chicken Rice Bowl may be the best lunch option in the area if you're taking into account quality, value and uniqueness. I've had many rice bowls in the area. Detroit Eatery has a very good Chicken and Lamb New York style bowl. My Big Fat Schwarma has a very good (but expensive) Middle Eastern Lunch Bowl. Holy Bowly near Hamtramck, Anita's Kitchen, Bowls and Bites etc. are all good. Toum and Tzatiki is by far the best rice bowl I've had of all the places mentioned. I was kind of shocked at how good it was. For one, the chicken not just "bowl chicken" or "Chipotle chicken" that you just scoop out from behind the counter and plop in the bowl. Like it's very clear that the chicken in this bowl could be on a kebab skewer. It's marinated, seasoned, and cut into decent size chunks so you can taste the flavor each piece. Makes the whole dish Next you have the toppings, which again, are the most unique and highest quality of any bowl spot in the area. Again this isn't just some pseudo Ranch or decent Hummus for topping. They have this very unique sauce that I would say is like a spicier, creamier Fatoush dressing. It's hard to describe but incredibly good. In addition, they have an incredibly fresh tzatiziki sauce on the bowl that is the best tzatiziki I've ever had And finally, the pickles, Tabouli and tomato are, again, incredibly fresh and work amazingly with the rest of the ingredients. I'm normally not a tomato person, but these were so fresh that I was onboard. It really is the best rice bowl I've had in the area by a pretty wide margin and I'm happy I found it. It's going to be a lunch staple going forward I love the Woodbridge neighborhood where it's located. An underrated hot spot for restaurants (Bash is also very good) and a great low key vibe. Toum itself is a very nice take out spot to eat at, with an awesome staff and plenty of spots to sit down and enjoy your meal at. The value here is incredible and Toum is going to be in my lunch rotation for the remainder of the summer. Can't wait to try their other offerings! read more

1st. And this is True if a Restaurant can stand in a Neighborhood that says a Lot. If the locals don't come-- why should I? When we parked I was confused because there were going to be 6 of us. When We went inside we saw that would not be a challenge until a family of 3 from the neighborhood arrived. We were already ( with permission) rearranging seats. They were kind and took the window seats. The atmosphere is WELCOMING even the painted floors give You the sense of a quick Trip across the ocean Now the Food ABSOLUTELY amazing and FRESH THE FLAVOR.... My husband was shocked at portion size We could have literally split the salad.( with lamb) Yet. Pleased we purchased 2 ( I have today's lunch) Our friends ordered the Spicy Chicken and Rice and said they also will definitely return as Will we. It's a risk to take others to a place You have not been to. However We are more than pleased. Oh. This note the food is served in to go boxes. My boyfriend came here and we got the falafel and he got a wrap. The falafel were big and crispy. They came with a side of tahini- I wish it was a side of hummus instead. The food was made fresh to order and took about 10 minutes to come out. He liked his food but the wrap was on the smaller side. It was big inside with a good amount of seating. read more

What a fantastic find on Trumbull across from Wayne State football field, corner across from Woodbridge Pub. Newly opened a super cool concept, Greek and Lebanese outstanding Delicious . Started with a delicious unique Greek Lentil Soup, they need both Greek and Lebanese Lentils Soup. Had a excellent authentic Greek Chicken Wrap with Fries inside, made it Spicy for the win. She had Lamb Kafta plate with House Cut Fries off the charts wonderful. Super late hours for the college students and bar crowd, beautiful design dining room. Got to talk with the oldman Greek chef, he got mad skills from decades in the industry. Young Lebanese girl super friendly and amazing service . Let There Be Light (and Halloumi): An exploration of faith, feta, and fluorescent bulbs I'm friends with the incumbent Mayor of The Lexington, which means I kind of have the inside scoop on new business ventures in Woodbridge. His Excellency, the Mayor gleefully told me this place was so new it didn't even have a website yet, but he'd already eaten there twice in its opening week. Our night ahead would likely involve uploading a great deal of slurred data to the cloud (also known as functioning on 3% battery and 97% whiskey). It would be vital to start with a solid base, so we power-walked the block and a half from the mayoral mansion to Toum & Tzatziki, a little side-street gem that feels like stumbling across buried treasure wrapped in foil and late-night salvation. Before I get started, you should know this place is open late as fuuuuuuuuuuck. Like, "midnight hunger crisis turned full banquet" late. Maybe you're breaking your intermittent fast at 2:30 a.m., maybe you're ending a night of "just one more," or maybe you're simply living lawlessly. Whatever your deal, they've got dinner covered. My first impression, like a deer caught in high-beams, was that this place is BRIGHT. Not just "the big light" bright, but more like operating room bright. For a split second, I couldn't remember if I was there for a c-section or for saganaki. Once my eyes adjusted to the floodlights, I realized this place was actually a beacon of hope on a dark and boozy night. I may have even had a religious experience. "And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon us, and the glory of the gyro spit shone round about us, and we were sore afraid. But the angel said, Fear not, for I bring you shawarma, fries, and forgiveness. For unto you is born this night in the city of Detroit a Savior, which is Lamb the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: ye shall find the Lamb wrapped in a swaddling pita and lying in a to-go box." And suddenly there was with the angel a heavenly host saying, "Glory to carbs in the highest, and on earth, peace, good baklava toward men." Even the staff here were sunshiny and angelic. We ordered a gyro the size of a regulation football, the kind of thing you need two hands, a game plan, and possibly a chiropractic follow-up for. And then there was the halloumi (halloumi with balsamic reduction, to be exact). It's the kind of dish that makes you believe in a benevolent universe. Stay with me here: it's a cheese you can put straight on the grill. Taking something already perfect like cheese and making it even better by grilling it is one of those human achievements that belongs on the top shelf beside fire, the wheel, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. It's like inventing an ice cream that gets you drunk or fries that reverse male pattern baldness. Whoever first threw halloumi on a grill deserves a Nobel Prize in Dairy Physics. With our bellies fully anointed, we were ready to return to The Lex and start conversing fluently in cursive. Yeah, so according to an insider at the mayor's office, I heard they're putting in a Rainforest Café down the block.
