Our last day on the island and my wife and I were out of our rental and cruising around, killing time before our flight back to the mainland. We had tried shave ice up in Hanalei several days earlier and I wanted to have it again. We were in tbe neighborhood of The Green General and decided to give it a try. To be fair, I did not read the menu thoroughly. I didn't realize that you had to pay extra for ice cream to be included. So, my wife and I both got shave ice without the ice cream. Frankly, I was disappointed. Parts of my bowl were just ice without juice. The flavors were rather artificial, as some other reviewers had remarked. And, the young women taking care of us, contrary to what many reviewers have stated, did not seem particularly happy to be there. My wife remarked that she didn't seem happy. Next time we're on the island it's Jo Jo's for us. read more

We stopped by the Green General for our last shaved ice and dole whip of our Hawaii interisland trip. I chose the swirl option for my dole whip which included vanilla. My husband got a tropical shaved ice. Everything tasted great the only thing was the pricing was higher than we experienced at other shops and islands. My dole whip was $9 and was smaller than $6 ones I had that trip. read more

We had to support The Green as they are one of our favorite bands and have seen them in concert several times including our 1st date. So ya, The Green means something to us... The Green General is a nice addition to the shops at Anchor Cove. Central to everything and next to ABC Store & Crazy Shirts. We stopped in to get shave ice one day & it was nice to finally get to check out the snack shop. We ordered a small ($7) shave ice with grape & lilikoi. You can choose up to 3 flavors. They have some set flavor combinations that are named after some popular tracks from The Green. That was pretty cool. We were greeted nicely when we walked in by a young lady & young guy. The young man took our order & payment while she made our shave ice. As some may know, I love me some shave ice especially on the island of Kaua'i. I am a self-proclaimed expert. Ha! The Green General's shave ice is good. The texture of the ice is smooth and the grape flavor was really good. The lilikoi was good too but the grape was my favorite. They have some snacks and The Green/The Green General merch but unfortunately they didnt have the sizes we needed in the styles we liked. Hopefully next time we visit they will. We were served by Mokihana and she was a delight. She handled our group of 14 without a sweat and was pleasant throughout. She told us about local spots to hit and I also added a new group to follow (The Green) on my streaming platforms. Now to the shave ice. Our group of 14 pretty much explored all that The Green General ad to offer. Every one of them were great. I'm not an expert on Hawaiian shaved ice but a couple in our party were and they were very complementary of what they had. The syrups used there were delicious and didn't taste overly artificial. The ice cream used in some recipes was very good as well (Costco). Overall, the shave ice, server, and the atmosphere were great. Highly recommend this list gem. *Very little information. Nothing on their website or social media stating the menu, prices, or hours. I tried to go a couple times but they were closed and no hours were posted on the doors or windows. *Finally caught them open and was extremely excited to try it. It was less than average. On their menu it states $7.00 for a small and $9.00 for a large. When I ordered, they said one was $10.50 and the other was $13.50 and it was one size only. The menu is really confusing... Each "specialty" shave ice should have the price next to it. *They unfortunately don't have air conditioning so it was really hot inside and the shave ice melted so quickly. The spoon they provide is really small and hard to eat with. read more

Absolutely wonderful establishment! the workers were very nice and very personable. They were great with small talk and were able to serve me the Aloha spirit Hawai'i is known for. The Green Music is the best! their store front here give the "Green" esque vibe and is welcoming. This place is alsi a Cruis Ship favorite! Crew members eat here every week!
