Came around 3 p.m. on a Sunday, and it was pretty empty -- most people were hanging out on the benches outside. Inside is super spacious with chill, surfy decor. Ordering is mostly through a digital kiosk (credit card only), but you can pay cash with the staff. Got the ube shaved ice and a deluxe acai bowl. Both came out fast and were huge. The ube shaved ice was super creamy -- if I didn't know better, I wouldn't even guess it was shaved ice. Totally lives up to the hype. The acai bowl was loaded with toppings, a little sweet from the honey but still really good. Definitely worth a stop. We came here again on another trip to the beautiful island. We ordered the triple coconut and the almond joy. Both were nothing short of amazing. Maybe food tastes better on vacation, I dunno. It was a very hot and humid day and there was a very popular shave ice place close to our hotel so decided to check it out. It is a popular place so the line was pretty long. There were several tables outside and a few more inside. You order at the kiosk or at the register if paying in cash. Staff were very friendly and very busy making the orders. They have a good selection with many different flavors. We ordered the Strawberry Coconut. The wait was not long considering how many people were there. We were surprised how much was included no each order. We were glad we ordered one to split since there was so much. It was very tasty and nice and cold for a hot day. With all the amazing reviews we had to try this! I think it really depends on what you order. I'd highly recon the ube with mochi and ice cream. That was a five star order. My son got something that was not very good - I think the artificial shaved ice- I loved my order of strawberry and coconut but I personally would skip the coconut cream that is all over the top- just a preference but I didn't like it at all- it looked fresh a delicious if you do! This spot was less than 10 minute drive from our resort. How could we have missed it all this time??! It's part of a strip mall, so parking was super easy. This place was clean despite all the sticky syrups that are apt to land on the floor when people are moving about. It was busy, but the line moved fast. You place your order at a kiosk and they call your name at the counter when the order is ready. It was crowded inside, so we took to the benches outside to enjoy our treats. The Ube shave ice was everything! We were pretty full from lunch, so we ordered two to share among my fam of 4. Wailua did not disappoint. They were generous with the ube syrup, no white ice to be seen! It comes with a drizzle of condensed milk, ube whipped cream, and is topped with toasted coconut, which enhances the flavors and gave it a nice texture. We opted for a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which made for a creamy center. I've seen some folks order mochi with it. I might try it that way next time. There will be a next time. So good! I ordered Da Ube One. A bit on the sweeter side, but you can definitely taste the ube. The toasted coconut was crunchy and flavorful--paired perfectly with the cream. This was a really good flavor, good quality. Not your typical fake, overly-sweet-in-a-bad-way, cheap syrups that are very common. I'm not a fan of the Haupia foam because I don't like whip cream, but I still enjoyed the rest of it, and I'd definitely come back to try a different flavor next time I visit. I like that there was sitting inside and it was nice and clean. The ladies working were also very nice and very kind. This shave ice was calling out to us after we arrived on the island and got some other shopping finished. It's conveniently located right next to the ABC Store. We were greeted upon entering and helped promptly. They were more than happy to explain their menu to us and answer our questions. My kids both got the strawberry mango. I couldn't decide between the lava flow and da ube one, but they told me to go for da ube one if I love ube (and I do)! Naturally flavored, no need to worry about stained teeth here. Spontaneous visit to Wailua Shave Ice after a hot afternoon at the beach. This spot is spacious, with a good amount of seating. Apparently, it's been voted as one of the top shave ice spots in all of Kauai for several years! I got their strawberry guava shave ice, which was topped with some diced strawberries and honey drizzle. Price wise, it seems comparable to other shave ice spots I've seen around Hawaii. The shave ice was delicious, but a bit on the sweeter side. They also have some unique flavours such as cookies & cream and ube, which seemed to be popular. I did find that the syrup didn't penetrate the ice as deeply (maybe they didn't poke deep enough holes in the ice), but they offer free syrup refills. I wish there was an option for customizing flavours and changing sizes of the shave ice though, because the majority of the flavours weren't ones I'd go for. read more
