They had a pretty wide array of flavors, of which I opted for the Heavenly Hana, which had everything I was looking for: Dark chocolate ice cream, marshmallow swirls, chocolate roasted almonds, white chocolate mac nuts, and sea salt. I felt a bit bad since normally I get things so I can share them with my girlfriend, but I could not pass this up. I thoroughly enjoyed my ice cream. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for her. She opted for Aunt Lilikoi's Passion Fruit and Ube Haupia. She wasn't a big fan of what she got, and after tasting it, I could see why, both flavors were definitely on the sweeter side. The Ube Haupia lacked ube flavor (had more than enough sweetness to it, though). The ice cream flavor I was most interested in, the Kona chocolate chip, was already out for the day. I was able to sample it, but they didn't have enough for a full school. This was around two or three p.m. so it's a bummer they ran out so early. I got the ice cream in a waffle bowl but the waffle bowl was just okay. I could skip it next time. While the prices are definitely on the higher side compared to the mainland, you can always get a Keke scoop which is less ice cream in a bowl. We came in to get away from the rain and ended up with an Americano, mint chocolate ice cream and a very cute gingerbread lady! The coffee was good but I found the water to espresso ratio was off for my liking. The ice cream was delicious!!! So so good and they had so many fun local flavours I wish I was in the ice cream mood so I could try more! First time at Lappert's as my dad said this was a must try. I tend to go more for sorbets over ice cream based on my dietary restrictions, so I got the Ube Haupia and Auntie Lilikoi's Passion Fruit. The colors were beautiful! Unfortunately, they were both on the sweeter side. While the lilikoi was packed with flavor, the ube was an extremely subtle flavor. I don't think I would be able to guess what it's supposed to be had I not known. However, my guy got the Heavenly Hana and he loved it! I didn't try it because of the marshmallow, but his reaction definitely made me feel like I just got the wrong flavors. I really wish we had been able to try them beforehand. read more

Here for vacation so we always stop by here for ice cream. Love the unique Hawaiian flavor varieties here. Too bad the customer service was so ridiculous. We arrived today around 4pm. There were two young girls who could be mistaken as twins behind the counter. One cheerful and friendly and the other the complete opposite-She seemed more amused with herself than providing standard customer service. I had to wait several times for the girls to complete their private conversations in the middle of my service. Management needs to meet with her asap. This young lady needs basic cs training. It tasted like I opened a Coffee Mate creamer cup and took a shot of it. We didn't want to make them remake it, so we asked for some black iced coffee so we could dilute the sweetness. I have been going to Lappert's since I was a kid. Originally it was in Kaloa and was just a small mom and pop ice cream shop. I believe that was the original location and it was outstanding. Now 40 years later it is a tourist trap from hell and is OVERPRICED to the hilt. The last two times I have been in there the service has been beyond rude and the pints/quarts I bought were not even full. The ice cream is just ok and $19 for a pint?? Wow! read more

Ice creams are on the sweeter side. Appreciate that they have a "Can't decide" option that provides 5 1/2 scoop flavors in a waffle bowl for $12. Unfortunately, they didn't have the waffle bowl available so we opted for a double scoop. They allow 2 samples per customer. We went with the ube haupia and ooeygooey pineapple cake. I wished the flavors were stronger for both as both they tasted more like sweet cream. Overall, I like how they offer Hawaiian flavors, but flavors are more subtle. read more

We have come to Lapperts year after year and I have noticed the quality slowly declining. However, their baked goods were still good. This year, we threw out almost everything we ordered. Cranberry orange scone was so dense that I couldn't eat it. Coconut muffins were a shade of grey and similarly dense, that it was hard to break open or for my toddler to bite into. We'd love some ice cream" The woman behind the counter said "sorry we closed, we're understaffed, we only had three employees today" There were ZERO customers in the shop, zero, I was the only one with my family of 4 total. I said "Huh? You're right here, there's no one in here, you can't scoop me three cups right now?" She said "no sorry" So beware, this place closes before their listed hours, and apparently are understaffed with three employees and zero customers, awful. Took about 30 mins for us to get into the store where we were finally able to see the flavors and size options. The smoothies, shakes and blended drinks are way better than stuff from that Seattle-based shop, and they benefit from the amazing flavors of ice cream available. Service can take a while because, like everyone else, they're shorthanded. However the workers try their best and you won't be dissatisfied. The Kaua'i Pie is definitely a favorite (Kona coffee ice cream, macadamia nuts, shredded/toasted coconut, and chocolate fudge), but as the years have gone by, I have noticed less and less mac nuts per each scoop.
