I ended up here often (maybe a little too often) while I lived in W2 working crush. The Green Lantern is a local bar with lots of beer on tap, at least one cider (I believe they have Blue Mountain normally), and good service. I never had any issues with the bartenders, bouncers, or servers, though I also don't get excessively inebriated. The decor is pretty standard with beer ads and some vintage looking paraphernalia, and there's also a pool table and fireplace inside. Outside there's a fire pit with hay bales for the many chilly (cold!) nights the area gets. What stood out to me was the food, it was actually really good, let alone for bar food. The nachos are massive and delicious, though they do run out on busy nights since the chips are homemade. Whatever the case, once I finally had them, I understood. Apparently the fish tacos are also very good, though I never tried it. Overall I'm a fan, though the rowdy country crowd wasn't exactly my speed. Still, great place to check out if you're in town and wanting a bar with great food. read more

Rowdy-ish, loud, and mediocre food for a pub that claims to have a good kitchen. Not that this is bad, but isn't beer pong a little past its prime now? The fire pit/patio would be great otherwise! Went recently with a large group, so got to sample many food items. The little carnitas street tacos were by far the best item. Good beers on tap, but way too many groups of four or five screechy undergrad women interacting with trying-desperately-to-look-adult boys in pairs. And this was a regular weekday night... We had the taqueria fish tacos which were fantastic. Lots of food on the plate, fresh avocado, fried fish and pico de Gallo. The service was a little slow, they forgot a few meals, and didn't come with a smile (so to speak), but it was adequate for our large group. Went on a Thursday for dinner about 7. Sat outside in the garden which had lots of hanging baskets and picnic tables. Immediate, fast and friendly service. Server noticed I chugged my water and brought me a pitcher. Ordered the special jalapeño burger with a side salad and my husband ordered the same with onion rings. I had a Paloma and he had a Fresh and Clean. Everything was very good. Lots of veggies on the side salad. Well seasoned onion rings. Bun was light and the meat was grass fed from local Blue Valley. My only complaint is that the meat was a bit salty, and with this quality, I would have preferred a bit less seasoning to let the meat shine through. My burger was a perfect medium, nice and juicy. I couldn't have finished everything if I tried and I can eat. Server made my husband a fresh pot of coffee which was thoughtful. Great experience, service and food. If we lived here, we'd certainly return. read more

SO MEH. Could be great but is going downhill on food. The french dip meat and bread today was OK, but the dipping us jus sauce was SO salty that it was inedible. Poor selection of sides. Other dishes I've had this year were pretty 'industrial' quality, too. Biggest complaint: what's up with no more onion rings? This IS the land of world famous walla walla sweets after all. Duh! We used to come for the onion rings, but they don't have them anymore. I live 3 blocks away, but won't be back after 3 tries recently. However, If you want to hang out with low expectations on food, wine, etc, and just order beer and watch sports with your friends you'll be fine with a nice bar atmosphere. Security at the door on the weekends feels wierd, but OK we get it on that one. Maybe one reason for lower quality - just getting in rowdy drinkers, maybe. The place could be EPIC, but, so not. The prices have gone up, the portions are smaller but the flavor is still amazing. The waitress we had is a different story. She walked past my daughter and I give times to refill drinks and check on the table of guys behind us. Never once stopped or asked in passing is we needed anything. Certainly the best bar in Walla Walla. Nothing else comes close, really. The previous reviewer was correct when he stated that you have to go to Seattle or Portland to find a bar that is equally good. Over the years, I have watched this place go through four remodels and it somehow manages to get better every time. Fortunately, they have preserved the extensive old wood paneling, which gives the interior a suitable dive bar atmosphere. (Although I do miss the old men's room which contained some of the best carved graffitti I have ever seen). They have a large beer selection (about 20 taps) consisting mostly of Northwest microbrews. In recent years they have improved the menu enough that I can now recommend the food. The fries, in particular are especially good. We've been going to the Green on and off for the past year, and thought it was time to post a review. This is definitely not a "restaurant" in the classic sense, although they do have a full menu. It is most definitely a pub, so if you're looking for a meal out with children, look elsewhere. Not that they won't be served their chicken fingers, just that this place is primarily set up for beer and drinks with food on the side. As such, I can't give it five stars, and my most recent experience garners it 3-stars. We went in with friends the other evening for beers and bites, and I ordered a pitcher for me and my friends, a martini for my wife, large shareable fries, and jalapeno poppers. Our server was friendly and prompt to our table with the menus, but it started downhill after that. The first problem was that she brought the pitcher of beer to the table first, even though I could see she had already made the wife's martini. I might be old-fashioned just a bit, but please serve the lady first. Ten minutes later a really grumpy dude came out of the kitchen to tell us that jalapeno poppers were permanently off the menu. "Really?" I asked, "Because I am looking at the menu that is right in front of you and there they are!" Now, granted, I was being a bit of a smarta$$ with that, but his attitude preceded him by about ten feet. His reply was that he didn't know why management took it off the menu and it wasn't his decision. So many things wrong with that, but I guess my biggest complaint here is that our server didn't come and deal with the situation, someone from the kitchen came out and kind of threw a negative experience in our faces. And to management, if you're going to take something off the menu, take it off the menu. I know printing menus costs money, but a sharpie costs a couple of bucks in the meantime. Having said all this, it's not like I won't be back. This is a comfortable place to meet friends in the evening for a couple of beers, a snack, and a warm place to chat. Ate at this little gem today and what a surprise it was. Had the Chipotle Plum Sauce wings to start and I was blown away. They were crispy, moist and the sauce was INSANELY GOOD!!! I didn't realize it had garlic in the sauce till I tasted them...Pure love and easily top 3 flavored wings I've ever had. Had the Western burger and the grass fed beef was noticeable and delicious. The barbecue sauce was just right on it so it wasn't drowning or overwhelming the flavor of the meat. Added tots for good measure because well, tots are dope and they were crispy and hot! The waitress was super friendly and helpful. She recommended some dipping sauces and I didn't want to be a pain and have her bring a bunch of them out but she insisted and her recommendations were spot on. A great little pub near the campus of Whitman College. This place gets quite busy and noisy, even on weeknights. They used to stay open until 2:00 a.m., but the waitress told me they have been closing around midnight lately, seemingly in an effort to disperse the crowd, and avoid the general sense of unruliness that often occurs during a late night closing time. They have a dozen or so local microbrews on tap, as well as a small selection of spirits. The fish tacos and nachos are quite good, and they do a decent job with burgers and sandwiches. I stopped by this place for dinner while in town for work, and wasn't impressed nor disappointed. I had the garden burger and jalapeño poppers. Both turned out well (after I sent back uncooked poppers). I'd probably come by again just to drink and play some pool. I've been a fan of this place since even before I moved to Walla Walla. They have the best selection of beers in the area and the Paloma is made fresh and it's SO GOOD. I've tried a bit of everything on the food menu. The burgers and pizza are both really good. The fish tacos are my favorite. I can't wait for this place to open back up and come and sit on the patio. The service seems strange when it gets busy... More than once I have had to dispute a charge because someone else's drinks have ended up on my card and the bill is way higher than it should be. Came here on a holiday weekend Sunday night after a day of wine tasting. Decent selection of beers, standard cocktails. Good bar food and pizza. Being from a bigger city, we made the mistake of assuming there would be cabs/ubers after 10. There's not. BUT we talked to the bartender and he asked a waitress if she could give us a lift. We were in luck because she was just about to head home. Hands down the most above and beyond service Ive ever seen from a bar. Can't thank Sammy enough for gettin is back to our hotel. What HAPPENED to one of our (former) favorite places in Walla Walla? It took an hour to get an order of fish & chips on a Friday night around 6:30 pm. The place wasn't as crowded as it usually is and yet the service was horrible if not non-existent. When the fish finally arrived it was so overcooked that it was more like gnawing on jerky. We asked for our bill twice and still had to walk up to the bar to pay. Then it was a mad scramble to actually FIND our bill. Not willing to risk a repeat of this experience. Was recommended the mozzarella sticks and they were awesome. Decided to try more fried stuff and the jalapeño poppers were good too. I blind ordered a pizza strictly because of the cool name. It came with shredded pork, teriyaki sauce, pineapples and jalapenos and was very good. After eating outside we went into the bar and played pool in the only pool table there. We had an itch for shuffleboard and the staff there said that Fat Cats down the road had one. We left to go to Fat Cats and were very satisfied with our food, beer and atmosphere here. read more

Maybe they are going for the local hangout no tourists theme, which is add for a city that lives of tourists. Not like this is New York... Anyway, stick to Public House or other amazing local places.
