Driving back to Colorado stopped at this small eat in or take away. Had cheeseburger, fries and onion rings. Found a beautiful park (Veterans Memorial) a couple minutes away and ate our delicious food there under large trees. Great experience all around !! read more

Not a quick meal. My kids and I stopped here while driving through town hoping to get a quick bite to eat. A large group of folks arrived and sat down after us. After waiting 15 minutes to get our order taken, the waitress proceeded to go over to the folks who had just arrived to get their order. We drive through Dalhart in the Texas Panhandle once or twice a year while traversing the route from North Texas to Colorado. Tiring of franchise joints along US 287, we trust Apple Map directions to The Grill on Cherry Street. At 2pm on a Monday afternoon, customers continue to fill the booths and counter seats. The menu includes a wide variety of burgers, sandwiches, chicken fried steak and plenty of sides. They also offer malts--malts you want to drink to the bottom and beyond. After taking our order, our waitress helps a moderately disabled customer through the door. She also sits with a elderly couple to take their order. She seems to know the names of all her customers and they know her. When the place becomes filled the staff mixes and matches with customers seamlessly. Other restaurants could use this family-owned business as a customer service model. The burgers we eat are among the best between Dallas and Denver. The onion rings... Well, the onion rings host way too much heavy batter. A restaurant with this much cooking and customer savvy might do well to learn how to make onion rings using light-weight tempura batter. read more

We stopped here on our way back from Angelfire. We called in takeout since the snow added a lot of time to our trip and The Grill did not disappoint!! My daughters got grilled cheese and a corn dog. Both said they were yummy. My husband got the steak fingers "because he wasn't that hungry"......to quote him "these are freakin awesome, I wish I would've got more!!". The employees were super sweet and everything was very clean. The only default was the bathroom is in the kitchen and there is only one so don't go in really having to go! I had to add this place because it's in the middle of nowhere and people need to know about it. If for whatever reason you find yourself in Dalhart, Texas stop in. The Grill has the best burgers I've ever tasted. I would consider myself a burger connoisseur, so when I tell you that their burgers are unbeatable you can take that to the bank! The Grill has all the makings of a small town diner, but their food has big taste. During a road trip two years ago I discovered this place and it blew me away. Granted I had low expectations, but I never expected to get the food I did. They had a sign out front that said "Best Burgers in Texas" so I thought that I would give them a chance. I ordered their Grade A beef cheese burger with a side of fries and a Dr. Pepper and after taking one bite I was a believer. The burger was juicy and seasoned with some sort of awesomeness. It was so fresh and delicious that my wife took a bite and ordered a burger as well even though she had ordered a salad initially. The fries were homemade and rivaled the burger in taste. This is the best burger joint between Amarillo and Raton. Well it's the only burger joint. The food is ok. The prices are fair. The cleanliness is hideous. We order chicken strips that came out of a food distribution house that was then freezer burned and over fried. To get to the single toilet you must walk through the kitchen. Did I say that the cleanliness was gross? All in all, this is one of your few options going through this area. read more

The Grill is my favorite casual spot to eat at in Dalhart. I love, love, love the staff and the burgers and milkshakes are to die for. I dined here about a month ago. The burger I had was probably in the top 10 best I've ever had. It was very flavorful, and juicy. I also had the cheesy tots with it which were also pretty good. Very friendly wait staff, and reasonable prices. What more could you ask for?! I would definitely eat here again. One gripe I might have is the fact that they haven't spend a few bucks to make a better bathroom situation for its patrons. If you go there to eat, and have to use the restroom you'll understand what I mean, but again, I will be a repeat customer. read more

Came here for breakfast on a Monday morning about 8 AM with a party of 4 and sat right down. This is definitely a local institution as many of the customers were known by name when they walked in the door. Service was very good throughout the entire meal. Had the omelet, pancakes, biscuit and gravy and all were really good. Portions are large and cost was really good for what you got. As a Dalhart native, who was born in the early 70s, The Grill has been a mainstay. It has gone by a couple of different names, and had a few different owners, but it has truly retained the "small-town, friendly diner" atmosphere. I have seen several reviews that mention that the restroom must be accessed through the kitchen, but I'm sure this building was erected in the late 60s or early 70s, which attributes to the nostalgic diner feel. The food is amazing, and the service is wonderful. The staff is friendly and ready to serve up some great food and customer service. They do get busy during peak hours, but it is worth the wait! At one point, The Grill was slated to close it's doors, but the locals voiced their love and desire for it to remain, and thankfully our wish was granted. read more
