I've been here enough now to be able to rate the dinning and bar experience. For great service get a table and for mediocre service sit at the bar. The bartenders will pick and choose on who to ask for a card with. I noticed many occasions were some people aren't ask while others are ask immediately after putting in an order. The service is lack luster at the bar. While the service is amazing when getting a table. I would give the food a 7 out of 10. We dined here on a Saturday after exploring The Wharf. I booked a reservation for lunch, so there was no wait and we were promptly seated on the patio. Being as I seldom get weekend days off, it totally did not occur to me that it would be more of a brunch menu than a traditional lunch menu- which was totally fine. We were starving so we started out with the Three Cheese Crab Fondue as an appetizer. It was really good- and definitely really hearty. There was an ample amount of lump crab meat in the dip, so we definitely got our money's worth. If you love melty cheese and crab- you'll love it. The only downside was the bread was on the unimaginative side. To have a stellar fondue and have a meh bread to put it on undermines the dish as a whole. For my entree I got the Coconut Cardamom French Toast. This was a truly elevated FT variety and was a five-star dish all the way. It wasn't too sweet and was like something you'd get at a luxury resort. Service was fine. Our waiter was good and a manager came by to check on us. Since we dined on the patio, this is a great place to people watch, but just be mindful of the time of day. We were fortunate to have a table where we were shaded from the sun, but some of the other tables seem to be right in the blaze of mid-day. The Grill serves up solid food and service. I visited on a very busy Saturday night with a reservation for 6 people at 6:30 PM. I tried the lobster roll ($39) and Cajun Branzino ($49) and both were good. The lobster roll was Maine-style -- cold with mayo -- which is not my preferred style, but it was still pretty good. The side of fries were great -- crispy and well-seasoned. I liked that the lobster roll had a specific price on the menu and not just "MP." The branzino was also very good. Everyone else had good things to say about their dishes, which included the clam chowder, seafood linguini, and caesar salads. Service was good but uneven in spots; there were some nice touches, but also a few misses. For example, they poured the canned beer for us tableside and remembered a guest's birthday with a small slice of cheesecake (free). But, they forgot crackers to go with the clam chowder, didn't deliver dishes to the correct people, and were a few minutes late bringing the last entree after all the others had arrived. It was a busy night, but also they should be used to that. We sat in the back dining area and the ambiance was fine. read more

I selected this place based on the reviews. There is valet parking, some street parking or a parking garage. We were able to get reservations which was nice and decided to sit on the patio. It was great weather to sit and chill outside and look at the water while enjoying lovely food. The service was great, our waitress was friendly, checked in and kept our water full. The pacing of food was good as well. I really enjoyed the crab deviled eggs. They were creamy and yummy. My filet was cooked perfectly and paired so well with the green beans and the sweet potatoes. The sweet potato sauce was so good. The chimichurri with my steak was nicely done. Second time I've been here and it was even better than the first. Drinks were spot on, the cosmo blanco is so good and fun. We had the 'all the bites' appetizer for 4 and it didn't disappoint. Very vast menu. The cocktails are excellent. They specialize in martinis. The "dirty little secret" martini their basic house martini is surprisingly high level! It's way better than any other high end martini I have had at other martini specialized bars. Food is great quality. The crab fondue is perfect for 2 people to share. Excellent service. Chelsea goes above and beyond! Definitely a 1st class bartender. My wife and I like the low key lighting and atmosphere. Bar seating is plentiful with views of the water. This is a beautiful restaurant right on the water with great indoor and outdoor seating. The bar is really pretty too. The customer service was great from check in to table service from Kalil. There were some hit and miss items that we had, but the Cajun Branzino was so delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked. We ordered the mussels and the sauce was creamy which was not expected was not appealing at all. The wedge salad was super fresh and tasty! We also ordered All the Bites and everything was good except for the bacon wrapped dates. I'm not sure what they were stuffed with, but that should be noted on the menu. We were not a fan. I met up with a girl friend of mine who I haven't seen in months. We enjoyed the grill punch, while munching on spicy tuna bites and splitting the grill burger. The environment was quiet -- perfect for a girl friend date -- even romantic date. The staff were friendly...I would say they probably weren't as attentive even though the bar was pretty empty...though my friend and I were chatting up a storm. So many they didn't want to bother us. The wait time was absolutely ridiculous and completely unacceptable. We waited an entire hour while multiple tables sat empty, including several marked "Reserved" that no one used the entire time. Then, after an hour, we were finally told our table was "ready"--only to be seated at one of the exact same empty reserved tables we had been looking at the whole time. How does that make any sense? Making customers wait for an hour while perfectly available tables sit empty shows a complete lack of organization and consideration for people's time. I ordered the New York Strip, cooked medium-well, and while the price was steep at $51, I was really in the mood for steak, so I went for it. The ambience was very nice relaxed and upscale without being too formal. The crowd was minimal, which made for a quiet dining experience. My server was polite, though not particularly engaging or attentive. The steak itself was decent, though not necessarily memorable for the price point. That said, this seems like a great spot for drinks at the bar especially if you're already walking around The Wharf and looking for a place to unwind. Overall, I'd recommend this spot more for cocktails and atmosphere than for the food alone unless you're really craving steak like I was. read more

I came out here randomly because I had a credit card dining credit to burn and this spot was one of the places that accepted the credit. I came midday for brunch. Although I was sat fairly quickly, the front staff didn't seem that engaged. My server though was very charming and helpful. Before I came here I looked at the menu online and didn't have high hopes, as nothing stood out except for the high prices. But again, I had a credit to spend. I was pleasantly surprised because what we ordered was very good. Deviled eggs, clam chowder, and the pork shoulder hash. I took my mom who is hard to please when not eating Vietnamese meals and she enjoyed it too. The Mussel's .... they were mouth watering fantastic and what made it so good was the white wine, blue cheese, chipotle, cream sauce that they were soaking in. The Lamb kabobs with very tasty. The Grill Burger was good. Overall, really enjoyed our time here. Staff was great, especially David, our server. He was very attentive, accommodating, knowledgeable and very welcoming. I went to The Grill for dinner last night and had an incredible experience. The weather was perfect, so we opted for outdoor seating, which added to the vibe. Our server, Natalia, was attentive and made sure everything was just right from start to finish. I started with the Grill Punch--it was huge, super refreshing, and the grilled mango garnish added a delicious twist. My date and I ordered the Mixed Grill special ($79 per person), and it was well worth it. It came with about five starter bites--the bacon-wrapped dates and fried cheese were definite standouts. For the main course, we had a medium-rare ribeye, two lump crab cakes, and grilled shrimp, all paired with their chimichurri sauce. Everything was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We chose the grilled sweet potatoes as our side, and they were absolutely to die for. We finished off the meal with the pineapple upside-down cake--massive and insanely good. The Grill came up as a top rated result for burgers in the SW quadrant of DC. Yelp said that it was inexpensive, with two dollar signs, Google has three. The Grill's burger is over $20 so, it a bit more than I expected. There is a 20% gratuity recommendation, which seemed high given the quality of service. We were about to sit at the bar because the greeters were playing around and hadn't noticed us. After getting their attention, they seated us in a high traffic area booth by the bar which was fine. We weren't dressed nicely because we weren't expecting a two dollar sign burger place named The Grill to be fine dining. It was after sunset and the lights were low but a nice moveable light illuminated the table, and looking at the menu you can order a tomahawk steak for over $140, other delicacies as well... Flashing lights in the peripheral caught our attention. Looking up, we saw some people were getting photos taken by a professional photographer in the hallway to the restrooms. We are probably in the background of somebody's pictures. I went and washed my hands and tried to see what was so special about the hallway. The evening went on, I ordered the Evolution Exile Red ale. It has a smooth draw, a malty flavor light on the tongue, and snaps with hoppy aftertaste. The alcohol content must be up there because my head started to bobble. I handed over the keys to my wife and enjoyed the beer. We were lucky to have found parking on the street so, we didn't have to worry about wandering through the parking garages of the Wharf again trying to figure out how to get to where we parked. The Grill burger was thick with sweet onion marmalade, bacon, and cheese. Herb seasoning on the fries was perfect, and the aioli sauce was a nice addition. We love the Grill and make a point to go very often. The atmosphere is upscale casual (appropriate for the water front in DC). Enrique is our favorite bartender (happy hour at the bar on sundays). Jacqueline is one of the managers and she leads a great team. All are attentive and care about providing a great experience. The food is quality and the Grill punch does not disappoint. I couldn't decided if I wanted to just order them as small plates for my meal. Their steaks do come ala cart. I went with the ribeye. It comes in a generous portion and I should have gone with a smaller cut. It took me a while to figure out if my steak was just tough or my steak knife was dull. Well, it was my knife. I should have said something but I was just focused on finishing my meal because we had to get to our show. Their Mac and cheese had a nice flavor, very cheesy. My husband went with the burger, which he enjoyed. He said the fries were a bit on the salty side. We would definitely return.
