We've had a wonderful experience working with Melinda in preparation for a rehearsal dinner for our wedding this summer. The experience has been exceptional from the start. Melinda has the gift of customer service, and working with her friendly / collaborative personality has easily made our rehearsal dinner the smoothest part of wedding planning. We look forward to celebrating at The Palm this summer and will definitely circle back with an updated review. Funny enough, our rehearsal dinner planning process has led us to become quasi-regulars at The Palm over the last year, and we've been for birthdays, New Years Eve, late night cocktails, and random dinners on weekday evenings. The service is always 10/10, the staff is friendly, timely, & thoughtful, and the gin martinis are our favorites. I'm also a huge fan of the lobster bisque and my fiancé loves the steak. A DC staple but I only recently visted for the first time to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday. Our server, Sean was great. He was very attentive, friendly, and patient. He really made my friend's celebration enjoyable! The place is pretty dimly lit. Perfect for a romantic night! Don't come here too causal. Not sure if a dress code is enforced but don't risk it! I enjoyed the "Blooms & Bubbles" cocktail and a glass of Malbec. For my meal, I had the chicken parm. It was a tad bit too salty for me. I wouldn't get it again. I would try something else next time! Came here for an event service was a little bit scattered lots of things happening at once my Seabass was very tough, but also beyond overly seasoned like they went a little too hard on the salt it made it almost inedible. The salad had a ton of dressing the bread was good. The shrimp appetizer was good, but I have been looking forward to eating here cause I've seen so many locations in the one time I go, it was this. A D.C. classic and a great experience! Street / nearby garage parking only and no validation. Large indoor dining room, standing bar area, and covered/enclosed patio. Dim lighting, cozy and romantic ambience. Fun caricatures of famous guests painted all over the walls. Wonderful service - constant water refills! The complimentary bread is delicious. The calamari is SUPERB! The ribeye with cowboy butter was cooked perfectly. Broccolini was delicious (a bit oily, but that's prob why it tasted so good!). Pappardelle bolognese honestly could've used a bit more meat. I was digging around all the noodles looking for more meat that really wasn't there... and for $35 I wish it was! Very tasty though - more like a rose sauce than straight marinara. They brought us free creme brulee for our birthday. Beware - they sing! Overall a great steakhouse experience. I stopped here for lunch yesterday and enjoyed the blackened strip steak salad. It was delicious and had a great array of complimentary flavors. It would have been nice to get an offer of bread or rolls but, alas, everything is a la carte there. The place is upscale and most patrons wore business attire, with business casual sprinkled in and hardly anyone dressed casually. The restrooms were spotlessly cleaned and the Palm printed hand napkins were an impressive touch. We went for Valentines. The front door staff is not so friendly, but the coat check lady was delightful. The dining room was darker than I remember. Overall, a five star though. The weight staff is excellent. The warm basket of delicious bread and soft butter in a ramekin was greatly appreciated. There was a raisin, and garlic, herb, and crispy roll type bread in the basket. Yummy! The wedge salad was large enough to share. It includes walnuts, not a typical addition to this type salad. This was very good and they were kind enough to split it for us. My friend ordered the 14 ounce NY strip steak. He said it had great taste, was well prepared, but was a bit tough. I had a 3 pound lobster. I asked them to crack it for me. The claws were exceptional. The tails were a little tough. The butter, and I squeezed some lemon juice in it, was very good. I wonder if it's all butter or something else is in there. Their lobsters really are good and I believe they are known for their lobsters. Sadly, they aren't from Maine anymore. Back in the day I believe they were. We ordered the potatoes au gratin. They were a little disappointing. They weren't sliced as normal. They were round potatoes, not my favorite. When I order au gratin I want more of the cheese than potato. We ordered the enormous carrot cake. The cake was good, not great, but the cream cheese frosting was excellent. Plenty to share and bring home later. Sadly, the picture of my lobster was blurry. It was beautifully presented, sliced in half and claws on top. We both had the Always in Fashion old fashioned cocktail. Excellent!!! The best of all the restaurants in town, hands down. Solid, age old spot. We had dinner at almost 8pm and the crowd was clearing out. The dining room got quieter as people were finishing their dinners. The tables were a bit close to each other but it was fine. Our server wasn't too on top of his game but he looked very tired. He was forgetting drinks, never came back with cheese for the top of my pasta, didn't know how to answer my partner's question about what type of beer, etc. My spouse questioned whether his steak was actually A5 -- it was on the cheaper end, and when it came out he definitely said it probably wasn't to that quality. He eats a lot of steak. I really enjoyed my meal though. I got chicken Parm and the chicken was nicely breaded and smothered in cheese. The sauce was chunky tomato which I like. My only complaint was that it didn't come with a lot of pasta, which is surprising... Usually carbs are easy and cheap. And you can't even see it here, cuz there just wasn't that much of it. The cheesecake is Junior's from New York. It was a bit more crumbly than I like, and I wasn't a huge fan of the bourbon caramel sauce. There's also barely any crust, which is one of my favorite parts of cheesecake. I did like the clotted cream and mint on the side, it gave the cheesecake more character. The servers came over to sing happy birthday to our friend... They'd been doing it all night. We heard several tables being serenaded, including the one right next to us, right before us! Dessert was a light Tiramisu. I shared the porter house steak with my husband. Definitely left with two days of left overs. We asked for medium and it was VERY red, so after a couple of bites, we asked our awesome server (I wish I remembered his name) to take it back and cook a little more. They gave us an extra complimentary drink which was very kind of them. For four of us and a let's say two drinks each, we did ended up paying $450+ so it's definitely not an expensive place. Restaurant week took me to the Palm in Dupont Circle. It was right down from the metro station, I think it was the Connecticut Ave exit (??). I know where I'm going in Dupont circle so the signs don't mean a lot. I expected more of a crowd on a Monday, during restaurant week at 5 pm. I joined the folks at the bar. I had an idea of what I wanted at a steakhouse. The barmaid gives me a menu and I order a glass of house red. I order the house salad immediately, no tomato. Italian dressing came on the salad. I decide on the 6oz center cut fillet with mashed potatoes on the side. Tiramisu for dessert. The salad comes fast and it's pretty fresh and good. I have never been to the palm so I decide on a few wall pictures. The walls are covered with famous people, athletes. politicians (mostly politicians), other people of note. It's incredible. I'm finishing the salad and the meat and potatoes arrive, the main event. I have been looking forward to this all day. It's cooked medium as I ordered it. Potatoes are very tasty. Generous side size. The meat is ok, I guess I expected better. The lady behind the bar made the evening. Conversation with her and other folks at the bar. People are starting to come in. I meant to bring a tie but left it at home...most men are wearing suit and tie, ladies are in dresses or skirt and blouse. The wine is gone, meat and potatoes all consumed. I take the tiramisu to go. I actually want to take 1/2 a star off, as the air conditioning was not working when we arrived. It was so hot the we moved from a booth to a table under a fan. Fortunately, it was fine by the time we left. I called the hostess about dress code and she was very gracious and said that my shorts and sneakers would be fine! Fortunately, I found some decent trousers and shoes! Our server Said (from Morocco) was amazing! Truly a class act. He created empathy with our 7 year old grandson and paid attention to everything in a timely fashion. The wine, salad, steaks and sides were excellent! Definitely not of the caliber I'd expect from a restaurant like this. I was shocked when they brought out the second course, Sicilian Salmon, and it was literally just a filet of fish -- no sides or garnishments. It felt cheap -- even for a Restaurant Week lunch deal. Service was ok but the restaurant was also relatively empty for a late Tuesday lunch. I wanted a cocktail but everything is at least $20 even a glass of wine. Came here after dinner at Chang Chang for dessert. We made the right decision! Greeted by a helpful host. He was thoughtful-- gave us bags for our leftovers from Chang Chang. After being seated in a booth, we ordered drinks-- French 75 is my go to-- and my friend had the Italian 75- more flavored than a French 75. Whomever was behind the bar that evening had a heavy hand. The food was great and enjoyable at our visit to the Palms location in DC. We ordered the Jumbo shrimp Bruno, which is large fried jumbo shrimp covered with a honey mustard based sauce for an appetizer. Then for our main course we ordered the 16 ounce prime ribeye, which was a lot of food including our two sides. I had to take home the other half of my steak, since it was a large portion. We also ordered the creamed spinach and the au gratin potatoes, which I highly recommend. The service was a bit on the slow side when we visited on a Saturday night, and not every table was full. Our server was friendly, but efficiency was lacking. Although he had a few tables and could have been because of the staffing shortages that restaurants and businesses are currently facing. The ambiance is casual even though there are white clothed tables. There is a bar area where they have tv screens to enjoy a drink or watch a game. It's great for large parties or even romantic dinner for two. Gotta love it here! Made a pitstop here during restaurant week and my soul is happy! Their food is so lovely and restaurant weeks allows you to dabble in all areas! The steak was made perfectly and the servers are very polite. It was my friends birthday and they wrote her a birthday card that was sitting on the table when we arrived! You're able to pay for parking in the street which depending on when you go can be easy or difficult. Buy the food is worth it! I've been to the Palm in Nashville so I had a sense of what to expect. The gf brought me here for a bday dinner and I was very excited. We sat in the sun room. Slammed a mojito, a surf and turf with some BUTTA, asparagus, and the goat...fries. They even gave me a happy bday card and then sang for the comp'd dessert. I never had The Palm and didn't even know this restaurant existed until I came to DC and stumbled on it through reading food articles and also seeing it on Yelp. I thought it is an interesting place to try out and wanted to go to the restaurant and have dinner at the place but after a long day of museums decided to just order take-out instead. Ordered the tomahawk rib eye which is a pretty big piece of meat, about 32 oz exactly! Ordered two sides and yes those sides were huge and very well for sharing. The mushrooms were tasty and the au gratin was a nice touch with all the meat that we had to eat. The only thing I think I wasn't too satisfied with was the cheesecake. It was overall too gigantic and not enough crust to my liking. My favorite part is the crust but I think the cheesecake still tasted pretty good. read more

With Valentine's Day falling on a Tuesday this year and both my husband and I working, we decided to go out and eat today (both off). I love dining at different restaurants and chose to eat at The Palm. My husband and I were greeted with a smile and taken to our table. We started off with Caesar salad and chose the blackened Mahi Mahi, asparagus in a lemon butter sauce, and garlic mashed potatoes as our entree. Delicious and filling! Oh, the bread basket had a variety of sliced bread to include raisin bread (I actually could have eaten the whole loaf.) I couldn't leave without having dessert, cheesecake, which was divine. We walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night at 8pm and got seated right away (3ppl). It's really loud and busy. Fun crowd and decor. Attentive service. We ordered appies, mains and two glasses of wine, for $175. Oysters and clams were fresh, champagne mignonette was delicious, on the salty side which I thought paired well with the sweetness of the clams. The seabass was good, tender and crab lumps for the oscar were a good size. Good meal, just average for the price point. **Went for restaurant week** This restaurant doesn't live up to its reputation. The food was over salted and just "off". The oversized portions don't make up for the lack of quality. The ambiance felt more like a chain mall restaurant. Our server was very nice but the entire time we were there other staff yelled across the dining room about setting up new tables and very loudly cleaned silverware with a dish towel. We attended the Palm for dinner on Saturday night. We had a reservation. The atmosphere was great and we had the perfect table and were so enthusiastic about our dinner. 15 mins in our server brought us menus. He was sweating and visibly overwhelmed. But if that weren't enough to tell us he was busy he told us himself. Three times. They are short handed, they have two new servers starting soon, a server had Covid. About 30 mins in we had our drinks and had ordered our appetizers. We waited patiently to put in our order, excited about the menu which looked amazing. 45 minutes in, still no appetizers, our waiter comes over to take our order and says, and I quote "I don't mean to be rude but the kitchen is closing in 15 minutes" At this point- I was livid. Approached the manager to let him know. This was shaping up to be a 400$+ dinner and the service was- shameful. He didn't apologize. Said he would get us our appetizers and about 10 minutes later they came. Throughout the rest of the meal our waiter continued to complain about how short handed they were. It bordered on self loathing. In his defense I didn't see the manager help anyone. He never apologized. Our waiter did apologize but it was lost amongst his uncomfortable level of complaining. The food was good. Really good. But I ordered surf and turf which came with no drawn butter no lemon and to no surprise our waiter was no where to be found to get it for me. The manager bought two of our drinks (two total for a party of 4) for us but to be honest the entire meal should have been comped because the service was abysmal. The poor servers were taking orders, brining drinks, running food- I never saw the manager pitch in other than to bring our appetizers. I think this could have been a meal to remember. The food was good, the atmosphere was good, but our experience was terrible and shelling out 400$ after that terrible level of service was painful. read more

I would certainly recommend the Palm if you are looking for a steakhouse that has more going on than just steak. I booked the Palm for a retirement lunch for a colleague. Our group of six were treated to superb service that was competent but not overbearing. I booked a table through the OpenTable and it was an absolute breeze. They were not too crowded today but it was following a holiday weekend. First, the breadbasket featured some fantastic fresh baked loaves. The baguette style loaf was my favorite. The whipped butter was good too, but lacked a salty kick. It was a nice touch to include slim breadsticks in a pack along with the breadbasket. The "Power Lunch" menu has to be one of the best deals in the city. Three courses all for $29 (the dessert course is optional, without it the cost is $26). There were about three starter course options from salad to soups. There were about six main course choices from fish, steak, and chicken. Also available on the main course was the catch of the day which was Sea Bass. Instead of an item from the pre fixed menu, I went with the grilled romaine salad with Jumbo Lump crab meat and a burnt lemon vinaigrette. I added the world's best homemade blue cheese dressing on the side. The blue cheese dressing is a better pairing than the vinaigrette. However, the crab lacked that sweet flavor I associate with Jumbo Lump crabmeat. It seemed fresh, just missing that delectable flavor profile. The whole time I wished I could have had a crab cake, shrimp, salmon, or any other protein from the menu instead. This is the reason for four stars not five. However, I am told the kitchen shines with steaks and other fish dishes. A must try is the creamed spinach. It tasted so rich but not overly so. Nutmeg is an ingredient that most recipes call for and it was definitely present in this dish. The table shared a family tub of it much to our enjoyment. From that one dish five adults (always one person who hates spinach like a petulant six year old) had five plus nice sized servings with enough for leftovers. Dieters beware, the key lime pie will have you reaching for stretchy pants, gleefully so. For me it is something magical about the interplay of sweet and tart. I could see and feel bits of grated zest, which is a good thing. The crust was fantastic too. The blueberry compote was an unnecessary addition, so next time I will just leave it off. However, the fresh whipped cream and mint leaf was a much nicer accompaniment. I will order the key lime pie all day and twice on Sunday. My colleagues swooned over the 7 layer carrot cake, not my bag but they were over the top with the love. My colleagues enjoyed their meals with standouts being chicken parmigiana, the Lobster Salad, and the grilled chicken topped chop chop salad. Unbelievably, no one ordered steak or wine (we had to go back to the office) I will revisit this review once I try that for which they are renowned. All in all we paid $250 including tip for six people with three desserts. Between the ambience, the good food, and the superb service; I shall return. read more
