I'm thousands of miles away and I still can't shake the fond memories of this delicious restaurant. On my last day in DC I visited The Grill with a college friend of mine. We were in search of a happy hour and happily stumbled upon this place and were pleasantly surprised. We wanted to get the most out of our happy hour so we ordered a pitcher of the grill punch as well as the Pinky in The Brain. Let me start off by the drinks were amaaaaaaaazing. I had to make a conscious effort not to guzzle the Grill Punch. We ordered mac and cheese and twice baked potatoes and while the mac was ok, the potatoes were delicious! Nice and crispy with the perfect amount of seasoning. I had an amazing time and the outside area is simply stunning with the waterfront views. A heads up that 20% gratuity is included in every check. Get the bacon wrapped stuffed dates!!!! Simply amazing, favorite thing I tried on the menu (so far). Served with both sopressata and blue cheese dressing. For dinner I ordered the "Grill Burger"- brioche bun, cheddar, onion jam, bacon, dried tomato, and pimento aioli. VERY good burger, cooked to perfection and all the different flavors blended so well together. I substituted the herb fries for the twice baked potatoes (fried potato skin with more of a mashed potato on the inside), by recommendation from the waiter. For dessert, I tried the apple galette with vanilla ice cream, which did not disappoint. The hot and the cold go together so well, and the dessert tasted homemade. Service was very tentative and very friendly. We sat outside which was nice with the overhead heaters and the drapes blocking you from the weather elements. Went here for a date night spot with my wife on a Saturday night. Vibes of the restaurant are solid. Food was fine. Nothing particularly special, everything was a little bit bland. Shrimp were not fresh. I got the Waygu which was supposed to be medium rare but came out rare. It was a 4 oz plate and one entire cut of the steak was nothing but fat, which is unacceptable when you're ordering Waygu and the portion is 4 oz. My wife's steak didn't have much flavor either. The chimmichuri was watered down. I could've overlooked the food being moderate to fine though. The service was quite bad, and it starts from the moment you walk in. The folks at the host stand barely acknowledged our presence even though there was nobody there. We waited about a minute for them to stop gossiping between themselves to even get a hello. Our waitress was polite but extremely inattentive. At one point my wife spilled some sauce on her address and we tried to get club soda. We asked one of the folks bussing tables for some. They went to the back and instead of coming out with club soda they came out with silverware for the empty table next to us and refused to make eye context. We asked the person bussing the table because our waitress, who was in our line of site multiple times, refused to look up at us for about 7 minutes. The same thing happened with hot sauce. I ended up asking another waiter for it and when it never came I had to ask a second person who also want our waitress because, again, she wouldn't make any eye contact with us. Our waitress would come by each table around us and fill up their water and would just not fill up our water. We aren't rude people. We were super polite. So, I truly don't understand what the deal was. Either way, so disappointed in the experience here. Definitely won't be coming back. There are LOTS of better restaurants and experiences on the Warf and across the city. Wouldn't waste my money here. read more

Five of us came here for a late dinner on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately. Our server, Katherine, came over and asked us what we would like to drink besides water. Three of us got the Grill Punch, which was recommended by our server. I didn't care for this much, but after reading what was in it (Gin), I knew why (not a Gin fan). That was my fault for not reading it first! I ordered the Ribeye, crab cakes for an app, the asparagus and twice baked potatoes (two of us shared the sides). My steak and my friend's salmon were from the ala carte menu so the sides cost extra. They were worth it! This was probably one of the BEST meals I've had in a long time. My steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare), the crab cakes had barely any filler, and the asparagus came topped with romesco, almonds and chives and it was addicting!!! The ambiance here makes it perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. Our server, Katherine, was phenomenal - always checking on us and our drinks were always full. The Grill was a last minute choice that the family greatly enjoyed after hours of sightseeing. We were amazed with the interior design and classy vibes. The staff were pleasant and very professional. A+, I cannot recall the name of the waitress but she sure was part of our nights great experience. The food is a little pricey but all worth it. I wanted to enjoy a drink but The grill stops serving alcoholic drinks after 9:30pm so make sure to make it on time. The Grill follows CDC guidelines and the bathrooms are clean and presentable. And FAMILY FRIENDLY ! ++++ For the meals, My 13 year devoured the Tomahawk with his father. It was Team work at its finest. My son made sure to take the bone for our dog to enjoy the next day. My meal was the grill burger and it was cooked as per my request. The fries were seasoned evenly and were a great addition to my burger. My wife and I stayed in the District Wharf for six nights and we returned twice to The Grill--and there's a good chance you will too. Both times, we shared the Beyond Burger. If you think this is the pre-made frozen patty from the store, think again. It's made from scratch and grilled on their Josper oven. It has a bunch of amazing flavors: savory, harissa, burnt ends. Every veggie burger from here on out will be compared to this standard. We also had the lamb kabobs with tzatziki and the seasonal chopped salad (which was only ok). And the Pavlova for dessert, Besides the great food and harbor front view, the service was outstanding. Unfortunately, a very bad Christmas dinner. We ordered 3 filets and everyone of them were stringy, representing a poor quality meat. Both the men's and women's bathrooms had some sort of major leak causing customers to have to leave the restaurant to use another restroom on top of the bad food experience. In the end, they sent us away charging us for what they could, but still hungry since their quality of food just wasn't where It should be. Please don't waste your time for a substandard experience. I order the King Salmon on their lunch menu and it was tasty. Their was a nice crunch because they leave the skin on. I would go back and order it again. This place caught our attention while looking for a place to celebrate the husband's birthday while visiting DC from California. With no reservations, they still took us in for an early lunch. Basic, Basic, Basic!!! Me and my husband planned a rainy Sunday outing to the Wharf and made reservation at The Grill. The place is easily and beautifully located overlooking the Wharf Fish Market. I was in awe by my first impression of the restaurant due to the views; however, once I walked in and was greeted by the hostess, who gave very strict instructions that we had to order an entrée for our reservations, I was definitely taken off guard. What if I just wanted a few drinks, appetizers, and dessert? We had planned to order entrées anyway, but I definitely didn't like that policy. FOOD - 3: lamb skewers and oysters, basic flavors and oysters rockefeller were dry. Halibut was definitely 4 stars, but the spinach was basic. Chicken was dry and basic. DRINKS - 2: The drinks looked good, but very weak and too much vermouth which made it hard to digest. SERVICE (Waitress & Hostess) - 2: The hostess was not welcoming and demanded we had to order an entrée for our reservation. Waitress got my oyster order wrong and had an attitude when I told her I wanted oyster Rockefeller and not oysters on the half shell. She corrected the order but did not apologize. The sauce was really nice but the calamari pieces were far too large and extremely tough. For entrees we got the crab cakes and burger. The crab cakes had an impressive amount of filler and were quite mushy. The burger was good but if you like ground meat well done you may not want to go here - they aggressively mention on their menu if you order medium-well or higher it is not recommended or guaranteed which baffles me as it is not challenging to cook meat to a customers preference. Disappointing!!! Wanted to celebrate a great night so myself along with 3 of my co-workers came here for dinner, BIG MISTAKE! Everything was ok until the waiter brings out our check. We asked him if he could generate separate checks per person but informed us he could not do that (not typical, but ok) he then requested to have each person add up their amount and write the last four digits of each card so he knew what amount to run on each card (ok, done) then he comes back to the table letting us know he ran the last card with $30 extra -- So what he failed to do was split the tax amount and add it per card after WE tallied our pre-tax amount for him, he started blaming us, and without checking with us just decided to charge the last card the entire extra amount. You can clearly see our amounts added to the total (before tax) he just needed to add the tax per person before running each card... Waiter did nothing to resolve the issue but start a blame game, Manager did basically nothing except offer to re-run the cards but at that point our cards had already been charged and we had been sitting there trying to resolve this issue for what felt like forever. The issue wasn't even the money - it's just, for a $$$ restaurant, you would think they would be capable enough to either create separate checks per person to avoid any mistakes or know how to compensate for the huge lack of hospitality. Highly recommend going elsewhere to save your peace, food was maybe 5.8/10, service 0. read more

Headed to the Wharf for the Chris Tucker show at the Anthem. I found the Anthem and not 100 feet away was The Grill. A lot of folks had the same idea of staying close and so my friend and I sat at the bar. Beautifully appointed restaurant with stunning light fixtures at the bar, separate dining area and heated patio seating, I happen to notice that we were still within the happy hour timeframe, and quickly ordered drinks. Drinks were on point! Mine the Hard-pressed was surprisingly warm, and I was there for it. Jack Daniel whiskey, apple cider with undertones of cloves and cinnamon...yummy! My friend said her drink was equally as good so we were two for two. The calamari came out just after the first sip. It was hot, lightly crispy, and a delicious duo sauce, spicy and sweet. There was none leftover and in the nick of time, out came the mussels. They were plentiful, well seasoned and though I'm not a blue cheese girl, it went very well with the beautiful cream sauce that was also perfect for dipping the freshly baked bread. Next up were the Grilled burgers with a nice sharp cheese, onion jam, and tomatoes! The burgers were seasoned to perfection and the buns were lightly toasted just as we liked. As my husnband settled upon the Grill on the Potomac wharf we enjoyed the low lighted ambience. The staff was attentive and friendly. Our server, Lana, was amazing. she was knowledgeable abou t the menu and helpful with suggestions, which were spot on! we both had cocktails. my being a martini and it was just what was needed aftter an extremely busy work week. We started with the lamb skewers with yogurt dip. Worth it! The grilled bread was a nice addition to the rest of the meal too. My companion had the chopped salad with a side of mushrooms and I had the 1/2 chicken with the creamed spinach. Not a drop was left and it hit the spot. We visited The Grill for Sunday brunch and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Brunch ends at 3pm on Sundays. We arrived around 2:30pm and we were able to fully enjoy the brunch experience. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately and a waiter came over to greet us and bring water right away. We tried the bottomless drinks which is $34.99 per person with an entree. The Grill Punch is super delicious and refreshing so we stuck with that our entire meal. For food, we started with the grilled cheese, shrimp cocktail, and raw oysters. I wasn't a big fan of the grilled cheese because of the cheese but the seafood was very fresh and good. For entrees we tried The Express which is a choice of steak, salmon, or chicken with a salad and fries. You even get a scoop of ice cream! We went for the chicken and steak which were both tasty. The fries are herbed and heavy on the rosemary which personally, I love. To finish the meal, we had a scoop of coconut ice cream. All in all, I enjoyed this place! It's very nice on the inside. It feels upscale but most people were dressed casually. They have TVs if you're looking for a bar to sit and watch the game. Plus it's on the waterfront which is always enjoyable. This is always a dependable place to go on the wharf. They have two sides of raised and covered outdoor seating although during peak lunch time even in mid week all the tables there might be full. There is also a patio in front but that could get way too sunny during the summer. This time had the Caesar salad with salmon and beyond meat burger, all decent. My husband and I visited yesterday and did not have a good experience because the chef did not make the food as ordered. My husband ordered a ribeye medium and the first time it came out medium rare. The waiter and the manager offered to send the steak (that we had breathed and touched, and hovered over) back to the kitchen to cook more. This means it is a practice to put tampered food on the same grill with fresh food of other customers which is cross contamination. I requested a fresh steak for my husband. The manager brought it out to us, did not check the temperature, and did not wait until we cut into it to ensure the temperature was correct. When I asked him did he verify the termperature prior to bringing it out to us. He stated, "No, I trusted my chef." The General Manager, Jacklyn happened to be in the restaurant so I requested her to share our experience. She used her active listening to our concerns. She was nice friendly and accommodating. She offered a 3rd cook which we refused. I made a reservation at another restaurant, which we had a good experience. Also, I ordered the Branzino and it was Amaaaaaaaaaazing but I had to split it down the middle with my husband while waiting on his staeak which never were fixed. I did not have a full meal as a result of the experience. We will not be returning but if you do go, do not order the steak because they struggle with steak temperatures. read more

We had no plans as to where to eat, but when we walked by The Grill, we knew this would be dinner. We definitely made a great choice. There were 5 of us in our group and we ate everything from salad to steak to seafood to just appetizers (which were far from just appetizers). And dessert! This is definitely a new gem on the DC food scene! Normally, I'm not a fan of DC's dinning scene in comparison to the intimate culinary experience given to food lovers on Baltimore's thriving food scene. My expectations for the food, itself, in DC are subpar. I love the ambiance, the drinks are impeccable, but normally, DC chefs fall short. Not this DC chef!!! First, it's a beautiful restaurant, with stunning views of the water. The outdoor sitting is spacious and perfect for date night. The restaurant's kitchen also stays open pretty late. The last seating is at 10:30, and the kitchen closes at 11pm. This restaurant is allergy-friendly, meaning most of their items are clean of common allergens, such as gluten, and the chef is very accommodating. I'm allergic to corn, soy, and wheat... had no problems there. Naturally, nothing I ordered contained those items, which is rare these days (you'd be surprised how even the simplest ingredients are infused with these GMO food items, such as seasoning salts and sauces just WHY?!). Food: Oysters ! Succulent, buttery, plump... I melted in my seat. Great start! Red snapper-- lack in flavor profile. Cooked well, nice crispy skin, tender fillet, but needed the added sauce to enhance the flavor Baked sweet potatoes with orange, cumin reduction - IMPECCABLE Halibut - this and the snapper took this rating from 5 to 4 stars. It was bland. We tried, we tried to dress it up, but we gave up and sent it back for the crab cake. Crab cake- GLUTEN free!!! Yay!!! Does happy dance delicious profile, not much filling, 10 oz. definitely will come back and order this the first go round. I highly recommend this restaurant. I've been to the Grill a few times, most recently for brunch with a friend. The food is usually reliably good and the service is even better. I was a little disappointed with their brunch menu (it's very limited, maybe 6 food items in addition to their lunch menu), but I was still able to find something. My friend and I got the burgers and while we thought the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the buns were just a touch stale/tough. This isn't usually the case, as I've ordered burgers from here before and don't remember the buns being tough, so I was a bit disappointed. I asked to sub the fries for a side salad, but couldn't (which is okay). The fries were very crunchy and well seasoned. We also ordered the strawberry rhubarb mimosa/cocktail, which was delicious - 5/5 for that. Our waiter was fabulous; he was funny, attentive, chatty, and overall excellent. He alone deserves a 5/5. It was honestly the best salad I think I've ever had (seasonal chopped salad). My husbands French fries were amazing, I couldn't stop eating them!!! We sat on the patio and it was a nice day.
