Now imagine waiting another 30 mins for your food to never arrive. WE LITERALLY WALKED OUT WITH EATING! The female waitstaff here hustles, works hard and provides great service, based on what I witnessed at all the tables around us. The male waitstaff is a bunch of no-talent ass clowns who couldn't bring drinks in under 20 minutes; our bar drinks beat our soft drinks by 5 mins. I was embarrassed to see such ineptitude. The Grille at Runways is a nice restaurant located at the Hagerstown Airport. Those who have chartered planes can land and walk directly into the restaurant. The food is pretty good and I can tell that the chef makes a point to add a variety of flavors and cuisines to the menu. Our waitress was super nice and attentive and made sure that everyone in my party was happy with their drinks and meals. The views in the restaurant are spectacular! You can expect to see planes landing and taking off with a sweeping mountainous landscape in the background. This is an interesting place to chill out and unwind after a long day. read more

Located inside the Rider Jet Center, this is a lovely local restaurant. I was here with two good friends for Sunday brunch and we had a great time. Opening promptly at 9am, we were brought drinks immediately and our food order didn't take long. I was still eating keto at this point, so I had the Chesapeake omelet hold the potatoes and fruit. A good portion but I thought it was a little light on the crabmeat. Next time, I'd have the ham and cheese or something else. Service was excellent, the coffee was great and the location is terrific. Another excellent experience at The Grille at Runways! Took two of my out-of-town brothers for lunch last week. The place was jammed, but they found a table for us with a great view of the runway. The food was great: fried green tomato appy, (we enjoyed this even without the crabmeat on top for the vegetarians); little bro had a burger; and big bro and I split a Caesar salad and a white pizza. Everything was fresh and delicious. And despite the crowd, the service was stellar. Side note: I eat a (mostly) Plant-based diet and have several relatives who do as well. So, although I no longer enjoy the Seafood boule or the jumbo lump crabcakes, I always find non-meat dishes that I love. One time we ordered the Salmon-Dill salad without the salmon, and the server offered to sub blackened tofu for the fish. Talk about service! I've been going to The Grille for about 3 years now and have never been disappointed. I hope it stays that way because whenever a friend or relative visits, this is where we go. read more

I had high hopes after for this restaurant after reading all the great reviews, but my experience fell well short of my expectations. Location is really awesome, my kid loved seeing the planes and it was a neat a experience all around. A couple of planes landed and pulled up while we ate. Service: terrible and basically nonexistent. We had a reservation for later in the evening, but we arrived a few hours early since couldn't get anyone to answer the phone to modify our reservation. We arrived to an almost empty restaurant where our visit started going downhill quick. The hostess had zero people skills and after telling her we were a party of 4, she stared at a piece for like 5 minutes, which made it really awkward and eventually said ok follow me. We were seated in a booth, but no one ever came then I see the the hostess and other employee talking, which I can only assume she sat us in an area that she wasn't supposed too. Generally, the service after that was slow.. Food: the food is really the only reason this restaurant isn't a 1 star. All the food in our party was cooked perfectly and was really good. Overall I probably wouldn't recommend this place just simply because of the service. Fix the service issues and you have a goldmine. read more

This restaurant is along the airport runway overlooking private planes which makes for nice views. My boyfriend and I found everything to be delightful. It was actually my first time trying an egg Benedict. We found the French toast to be moist and delicious. The reason I've docked 2 stars is because my food was cold. They prepared everything very quickly, so I expected it to be hot, but that was not the case. Imagine eating cold eggs and french toast - tastes fine but definitely not as good. read more

Have never been disappointed with the food or service. Last week we went for brunch and once again the eggs Benedict was off the charts. I got smoked salmon this time and it was absolutely delicious!! The grilles poached eggs are always perfect. My husband got chip beef gravy and scallops. Sound odd? It's not, it was delicious! He loved it. I tasted it and I hope it's offered next time we go because that's what I'm ordering. Our waitress was a little dynamo. Wish I could recall her name. The seafood bisque was among the best I've ever had! The surf & turf pizza appetizer was delicious ... and big enough to be a main course! It had 4 large triangles of roasted garlic na'an topped with chopped shrimp, filet tips, arugula, tomato, and a huge amount of cheese ... with lobster bechamel sauce on the side. Nice Troeg's IPA to drink. My sister had a solid French Dip Panini, nicely done with substitutions that she had asked for taken care of with no problem. During a lunch time meal last month with family, the hostess came & abruptly removed my husband's walker saying "I'm moving this out of the way." When I looked at her in shock, she said, "I'll bring it back when he needs it". I'm thinking "how do you know when he needs it??". My husband uses walker because he is weak from cancer treatment. Later, my husband needed to go to bathroom leaving us scrambling to find walker. Even more disheartening, when I privately messaged the restaurant about this, they didn't respond at all leaving me wondering if they were ok with a staff person treating someone with a walker like this. read more

Although highly anticipated, our most recent landing at Runways was off the runway. The sign that greeted us said, "seat yourselves" and when we selected a booth near the bar, the waitress immediately took umbrage and huffed, "we will have to clear that table!" I said that was fine. Afterall, it had two glasses. In retrospect, it must have been where our darling waitress was camped making love to her phone, I suspect. So, from then on, the service was indifferent if not downright belligerent. When the food arrived, it was sorry. The club was on plain white bread (not sourdough) like our last visit. It was barely toasted and the deli turkey was plain and unflavorful; the bacon was nearly nonexistent and the waffle fries where less than half the portion of our last visit. The youngsters working there were all under thirty and they giggled and played with their phones more than they waited on tables. Unfortunately, ours, named Heather, was the worst we've ever had there since its inception, which encompasses at least three different regimes. On a positive note, the view of the runway and the bathrooms were still great. It was the food and service that crashed miserably! read more

Unfortunately we arrived at 1110 and they stopped serving breakfast at 1100. Poor planning on my part. We flew in from Annapolis and selected Hagerstown in order to view some of the fall foliage. I had called the day before (Monday) to see how late they served breakfast. However, the restaurant was closed and no one answered. Some departure delays and strong headwinds delayed our arrival. I understand the need to transition the operation from breakfast to lunch. However, there was only one other table occupied when we arrived, and they probably had breakfast. I don't think it would have been a big deal to offer us breakfast. As it was I had a sloppy burger that I could not eat as a handheld and my wife had a BLT for breakfast. I did check the restaurant on Yelp, but there was no indication they stopped serving breakfast at 11AM. How hard would it be to put Quiche, shrimp and grits or some other breakfast like item on the lunch menu? read more

Not sure how I've overlooked this place for breakfast during the past couple of years that I've lived in the area but I'm glad I finally arrived. Located at the airport (the general aviation side) right on the ramp allowing you to watch planes and helicopters do their thing while you drink and eat. Once inside the large blue warehouse-like building you do a double take because this is definitely an upscale establishment. It is worth going just to see the bathrooms (I kid you not). Okay on to the food... I didn't ask but it appears the menu changes often. I had the New York Omelet which was... you guessed it, corned beef and Swiss. My companion had the special, which was chipped beef over Texas toast. Both meals came with a potato pancake which tasted like a double baked potato. Just fabulous taste and very affordable with our total bill including coffees being $18 and change. Check it out, you won't regret it. read more

I guess I should write a review since my husband and I go to Runways every week. This is our mid week go to for dinner. I always get the Southern Club Salad. It's big and perfect. My husband likes to try a variety of things off their specials menu- lobster baked potato, an Asian poutine, and various inventive salads. I am originally from Hagerstown and consider myself a Crab Cake connoisseur. I now live in Florida but decided that I needed to try the crab cakes here at the Grille at Runways because I had heard good things. I was in town for a family wedding. On the menu the dish is described as Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. Unfortunately there was not more than about one piece of lump crab. I guess that's all there has to be to call it that. The flavor was good but it was more shredded than lump. The kettle chips were good. April, our server was great. She was friendly and bubbly. She checked in us a few times to make sure we had what we needed. May try the crab soup next time. read more
