Had a delightful delicious lunch at Cafe Roma. I had piping hot baked ziti with bolognese sauce. It was delicious! My mom had a beautiful dish of vegetable lasagna. This was our first visit to this restaurant. It is located near the Hagerstown Airport. It is situated by itself, not at a shopping center. We came at 5 pm on a Saturday night and it was not crowded yet. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered an appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert. All of them came out separately within 5-10 minutes. The prices of entrees were reasonable and affordable compared to big chain restaurants such as Maggiano's or Cheesecake Factory. The dining room and restrooms were clean. Overall, a good experience if you are not located in a big city. read more

Good was good and prices reasonable. A really nice surprise to find Italian dishes st a local restaurant. Eggplant parm was cooked perfectly- thin slices lightly breaded and stacked, with side of spaghetti with marinara which had a nice tomato flavor, without being too sweet. Service was very good, clean and nice atmosphere. Specials list was long and all sounded very good. The Antipasto Misti salad was very nice, easily shared by two as a salad appetizer. Bread was just alright, was hoping it would be warm, but did have a good chew and flavor. Did not try dessert, but were listed as homemade, so hopefully try some next time- lots to choose from. First time here, but definitely won't be the last. Wide variety of Italian dishes, reasonable prices, and good portion sizes. Family run. Everything is freshly made- nothing from a jar here. The dining room is big with lots of seating. It's well lit and you can hear classic songs from the kitchen area (think Frank Sinatra and his rat pack pals) that contribute to the dining experience. Fresh baked bread and butter was brought out with our soft drinks. Bread was warm, crisp crust, and soft in the middle. Then we had an app of the Italian Wedding Soup. Perfectly seasoned and delicious. I had the Chicken Marsala, served with linguine on the side. It comes with either their tomato or marinara sauce, but I asked to have it topped with the Marsala sauce instead. Super tasty, but a little messy as the sauce is on the runny side (as most Marsala's are). Husband got the Italian Sausage with linguine and tomato sauce. The sausage was good, but had a little kick to it, so beware if you are averse to heat. He isn't so he loved it! Lastly, we had the creme brûlée for dessert. Creme brûlée is our favorite so we get it whenever somewhere has it. Theirs is topped with fresh mint and raspberries, and again is freshly made. Our server, Cruz was super friendly, good humored, and personable. Definitely made a good dining experience a great one. My only negative is they have paper straws. I hate paper straws. Ok. Not a bad experience we used to eat here when it was Tony's a run of the mill Pizza shop. We were surprised to find out this is being "more" of a finer dining Italian place but definitely needs some refinement. Loose the cheap pizza shop open and beer signs out front, people still think this is a pizza shop. A little outside and inside sprucing up will go along way. The food was good, although portions on the smaller side. Salad should come w pasta, follow Olive Garden or Fratelli's and bring a table side salad for guests. A $17 pasta should NOT be just be pasta. Pizza was a solid win for the kids and fresh! Add some olive oil and balsamic table side for the bread! Again, this place is trying to be more and could easily get there with some finesse and better marketing / ambience It's really about 3.5 stars right now. read more

We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience there. The Calamari was very well made and not greasy and we like it. Veal Piccata was perfect and we took the left overs home to enjoy the next day. My Spagetti and sausage was really good and I finished it all. We ended with Tiramisu and coffee. A perfect ending. This will now be our go to Italian restaurant in Hagerstown. And In Conclusion.... No idea how this place has such high ratings. I can only imagine it's because none of these people have had good Italian food. All of our pasta was dried out. Fra Diavlo had like 2/10 spice. The sauce was very "thick" for lack of a better word and just didn't have fresh flavor. 2 out of 9 people at our table waited about 10 minutes longer for their food. Our waiter was a very nice guy. He's the reason this isn't a 1 or 2. The place that was here before wasn't very good, but I expected this to be better, especially by the ratings, but it's just more expensive. Part of the place is somewhat nice, but half of it is just old gross carpet and tables and chairs that look 30 years old. I'm not saying not to try it, because maybe this was just an off night, but I doubt any of us will again. read more

We go out to a different restaurant every weekend. This one was recommended. Both my friend and my self were very disappointed, we ordered two different dishes. Neither one of us finished our food. I will also add we had a drink it was very good and then service was great. I would not recommend and we will not be returning to that restaurant. We tried, but it was a no go for both of us, and my friend was not feeling well before leaving the restaurant. it's also an older restaurant that could use some updating inside. read more

I visited this Italian restaurant, for the first time, almost a year ago. The shrimp scampi was the best I'd ever had, by far. My roommate's mom, who's eaten at much nicer restaurants (this restaurant is super nice), requested that they eat at this restaurant many times. She loves their lasagna. I've had their shrimp scampi more than once; it was different the last time I went. Instead of whole, perfect tomatoes, I got cut tomatoes, which didn't have the same effect/taste. Everything else was exceptional, including the service. If you want the best service in the area, come here. If you want the best Italian food in the area, also come here. We enjoyed our recent lunch at Cafe Roma. Very impressed with the food and service. Waitress was attentive and personable. I am assuming the gentleman who was present was the manager/owner. He, also, was attentive and personable. The dishes ordered were the Rainbow Trout, with a side order of pasta, and the Veal Diana, with a side of the daily vegetable. The servings were large and done to perfection. The vegetables, broccoli and carrots, were the freshest we have ever tasted. The atmosphere is open and elegant. It's unfortunate that the outside of building does not reflect the ambiance or the food quality within, but we understand that this is not the fault of the owner of the business. You can only do so much to a building when it is owned by someone else. Cafe Roma is highly recommended. My husband had a pasta dish with sausages and peppers in a Rosa sauce, with a very fresh, cold and crisp salad that came with wonderful scratch-made ranch dressing. I have traveled the world and this food compares to some of the best restaurants I have experienced. The food is so flavorful, seasoned perfectly, and made from scratch. It reminds me of a restaurant in Kolkata, India called 'Hatari'. .. people stood in line for an hour to get seated but it was worth it! The service is excellent (smiling, professional, attentive), and the ambiance is nice (soft lighting, quiet conversations). Last night, the restaurant was packed ( unlike my previous two times when my husband and I visited) but the service, ambiance and food was still the same!
