I'm genuinely disappointed with my experience at this dog grooming service. The owner, Sean, is not only arrogant but also condescending, which set a negative tone from the start. When I arrived to drop off my dad's dog, I was greeted with the same attitude by the woman who answered the door. To make matters worse, they have this bizarre system where you're required to stand outside in the back of the building (which is a strip mall with no clear signage) and ring a doorbell just to be let in. I waited outside while Sean, the owner, sat in his running car right next to the building, and I had to ring the bell twice. When I finally entered, a groomer scolded me for trying to open the door when she was already there. "We answer the door for customers, do not do that!" she said in a very rude tone. She seemed fed up with this process and took it out on me. Not the best first impression. When I explained that I wasn't sure if she'd heard me with all the noise from the blow dryers, she replied, "I have a dog on the table." Not exactly helpful or professional. The owner, Sean, eventually came in after sitting in his car, and rather than offering any empathy, he proceeded to chastise me for not bringing my dog in sooner, saying he was matted all over. I explained I brush my dog regularly, and the only matted spot was around his behind. He then informed me that the grooming might cost up to $120 and that I needed to bring cash. I felt uneasy leaving my dog there, especially after seeing how uncomfortable he was. Three hours later, I returned to pick him up and at least had the benefit of using the front door this time (although, of course, I still had to ring the doorbell). It was pouring rain, so it was nice that the front had an overhang and windows, so I could at least see they knew I was there. The staff, however, were very kind when I picked up my dog, and they admitted that he wasn't matted, so the final cost was only $110. I have to admit, my dog looked beautiful, which is why I gave two stars. I understand they want to manage customer flow to prevent dogs from escaping or interacting with each other, but if they're going to have a doorbell system, why not allow customers to drop off in the front too? I won't be returning after this experience. read more

Pawfect! One of the nicest dog grooming salons I've been in. Sean, the owner, is a very nice guy. You can tell he truly cares for animals and will treat yours nicely. The inside of the salon looks new and modern. One of the walls has several large crates for dogs that are waiting. I like this instead of the dogs being in some back room. There are 3 or 4 tables where groomers have their stations. It feels friendly and inviting. As for the grooming itself, they do a really good job. The cuts are just how I requested, and my babies look great. I found my new grooming place. read more

I had a great experience here. I had brought my previous dog here for a groom before he passed away and had a good experience then. This time, I was bringing in my 6 month mini goldendoodle to get a trim before I had him neutered. He had his long puppy hair that was snarling all the time. And, he hates brushing (even bribing him with high quality treats does not work). I also felt that with the cone and the incisions I just wanted less hair on him. Sean spent time with me talking through the clips and the right length to use. I dropped him around 8:00am and ended up picking Henry up at 11:30am and he looked AWESOME. I loved his shorter hair cut so much. Henry has a lovely red color and it really shines and looks much softer with the short cut. The haircut itself was even and well done. I pulled into the parking lot this morning to take my Golden Retriever to get groomed and I thought, "I love this place. Why have I never reviewed it?!" So I am. I've been using this place for a while after trying others and being disappointed with their impersonal service and inconsistent quality. I walk in this place and the owner (great upbeat guy) knows my dog by name. He and his staff make you feel like you're their only customer. We just took our 3 year old Yorkshire terrier here for the first time. Our usual groomer is on maternity leave and is located in Hoffman estates. We searched around for a new groomer that is closer to home. We read a bunch of recommendations for the grooming lodge. I was nervous because our Yorkshire is really fidgety. We walked in this morning and we were instantly greeted by the owner, Sean. He was extremely knowledgeable and made me feel at ease. He held our Yorkshire until she stopped shaking and then she started to give him kisses. I knew right then and there she was in great hands. A little discerning for a first 'prep' visit. The owner makes a lot of assumptions. I wanted to 'meet/greet' as well as discuss his thoughts about grooming. COLD DAY (12) was asked to wait outside the backdoor. We did. Came out with two info cards, sign off forms and policies, requesting lots of info, especially for a meet and greet. Told me to walk around front and relieved me of their leashes, walked the dogs through the studio and out the front and told me to sit in my car with the dogs and complete the questionnaires. Again.... all kinds of info and I didn't have any info on them! He stated when done, to leave the dogs in the car and he would talk to me. I presumed the talk would be outside and it's 12. I was masked but not dressed for a detailed question and answer session outside. Especially after he stated that in order to be considered I would have to place a 50% down payment towards the first cut (for two) and I hadn't even scheduled an appt. I want a competent groomer but I'm not preparing for Westminster nor am I looking for a nee vet. Definitely not on the low side $$$ per their pricing and there is a huge difference in arrogance vs confidence. Sean was about to close the shop, and we weren't even customers of his, yet he took a solid 20 min to give me detailed instructions on how to handle the situation. I noticed The Grooming Lodge in Arlington Heights shortly after adopting my first dog from an animal shelter. Knowing little to nothing about caring for a dog, I researched as much as I could about dog foods, training, vaccinations, city regulations, etc. I even attempted to groom my dog at home since I was wary about being ripped off or sold something unnecessary. So I tried teaching myself how to bathe and cut his hair, trim his nails, and brush his teeth. The latter two were nearly impossible to accomplish as he didn't like it one bit. I was clueless when it came to grooming costs, and had no idea if chains like PetSmart or local pet groomers offered more reasonable pricing. During one of my trips to a small strip mall with the nearest Walgreens and Ace Hardware, I saw The Grooming Lodge and brought my dog in. The inside was clean and inviting...and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they charge only $10 for a nail trim and dremel. The owner and staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, so I felt comfortable bringing him back for a full haircut. They did an amazing job and also gave me tips on what I could do at home. And if their awesome personality isn't enough...they also offer $5 off your first time grooming session and $5 off for every friend you refer. I'm glad I found this place where it feels like every dog is given special attention, and they take the extra time to answer any questions I might have. This is definitely where I'll be going from now on...not only because their prices are affordable, but more importantly, their friendliness and trustworthiness. read more

As I stammered to come up with a description of what I wanted done, Sean looked at his notes and told me what they did the last couple of times. This made it really easy for me. Tried to have my Cavalier groomed. They have NO idea how they should be done. One time it was done like a Cocker Spaniel, the next it was a nice short cut. The third time it was very choppy and uneven. When I asked who did this to my dog, I was told nothing was wrong with it. Will NEVER go back. And it is very close to me. I have not been impressed with the Lodge's Services... To start with I was told by the owner that he is the best groomer anywhere. I do not only find that hard to believe, but he has yet to prove it. So the owner has a big ego to start. My dog is short-haired and doesn't require combing or brushing yet I am told that I can't just bring him in for nails. So I have to get him washed, dried, etc. Then I noticed several times that the dog's nails were not cut. When I explained this to the owner I was told that I need to bring my dog in more often. Well of course I do, if they weren't cut the first time. Also, I have never met a groomer that thinks he should charge for cleaning a dog's ass. It's it already cleaned since it has been washed? Are you serious? Sounds like this guy is too big for his britches... read more
